37 guests' feedbackWe had an amazing stay and Gys was a fantastic host. Don't let the 'busy' photos put you off. All the furniture and antique items in the house are very orderly and neat and this creates a very warm homely atmosphere. Our room was very neat and clean, the bath was a highlight and the bed and bedding are of excellent quality. The breakfast is a little more expensive than what you will pay in Spur, but the quality of the food, the personal attention and detail that Gys himself puts in and the atmosphere in the dining room definitely make it worth every penny. We will definitely only stay here in the future if we are in PMB again.

The host has been so accommodating, going out of his way all the time. He often checked whether we were fine, offered his own veranda to host our visitors, and really just endless kindness. What an amazing experience. We will go out of our way to stay here again.

According to the host, breakfast wasn't included. My sister and her husband had to eat out. The place doesn't look anything like the photos on your website. It is full of antique objects and even old ladies' clothes on both doors. It was like a museum, honestly. The host was lovely and welcoming, but I think they should not mislead their guests by providing photos that don't match the place. It was just all too much. Looked like a haunted house.

I thought I was going to Pietermaritzburg to conduct a soul depleting four-day workshop, but it turned out to be a glorious four day holiday! The workshops went smooth, the stay at 79 Ridge Road was the perfect holiday I needed. Who could ever think that the sleepy hollow could provide such a retreat for a tired of life and overworked guy like me? After four days I left more invigorated and refreshed than when I arrived. Magic is in the air at this B&B. Go and experience it for yourselves. I am not going to give away any clues, go and explore them for yourselves. The surprise is yours to have, at absolute best prices you can imagine. The tip to kick of the experience: ask Gys for his best G&T on arrival!

My son and I stayed at the guest house, we stayed in the cottage. Great to have the kitchen and living room too. The garden is beautiful. My son enjoyed the pool. The service was very good, everyone was very friendly. Breakfast was beautifully served and delicious. The house was well located near the schools.

The host was willing to specially furnish the cottage and a single room for three colleagues who are attending a congress together and prefer single beds. The delicious breakfast was brought to the cottage every morning exactly at the time we requested. While we were still on our way, we received a phone call to reassure us that we were being waited on and to make arrangements for arrival. I suggest posting the full name of 79 On Ridge to make it easy for guests to know where the entrance gate is. The characterful garden and swimming pool offer nice relaxation space. The puppies and koi pond create a homely atmosphere.

Beautiful decor. They thought of everything and the apartment where we stayed was well equipped. Gys was very nice and helpful. Nice bed with good linen and electric blanket was great for the cold weather. Please note that breakfast is not included in the price and must be booked in advance. We then went to eat breakfast at the Spur nearby. Good reference of the delicious Olive n Oil restaurant for dinner. We will definitely stay here again.
The photos on the website are unfortunately misleading. Our family of 4 got an outside room with 1 single bed and 1 double bed. Booked a long time in advance and we were told to book in before 14h00 because owners had to be at a wedding. It was later changed to 15h00. The owners are friendly but when we arrived a helper was still cleaning the place. We were also told that there would be many guests which would leave little space for cars. Unfortunately disappointing.
We had a lovely stay and will definitely stay there again if we are in Pietermaritzburg (see you again next year)! 79 On Ridge Bed & Breakfast is located near the N3, across the road from the University and offers a peaceful atmosphere. The owners, Gys and Denzil are friendly and make you feel at home right away. We stayed in the self-catering cottage - which is a beautiful place, very clean and tidy (with stylish decor). The unit has everything you need - a spacious bedroom with the most awesome bed / bedding and plenty of space for everyone's clothes, a big bathroom with clean and soft towels, a kitchen with everything you need and a lounge where the children slept. There were also extras that one does not always expect - a container of purified drinking water, coffee / tea and a box of cappuccinos and extra soap / shower gel in the bathroom. The children's favourites were the soft comforters, the cute dogs - especially Mitsie, the free WiFi and then of course the Lindt Lindor Truffles, each of them found next to the bed. The breakfast was delicious and served on a cosy veranda. We also looked at the rest of the guesthouse's rooms and the standard (and attention to detail) also applies here. Gys and Denzil, thank you very much for your hospitality, your place is definitely one of the most beautiful and cleanest we have already stayed at and we definitely recommend you to anyone who needs accommodation in your area.
