The Abalone Guest House is the perfect place to break away from the hustle and bustle of city life and to experience the luxuries of peace and serenity. It is situated in Jacobsbaai on the West Coast of South Africa, halfway between Saldanha and Vredenburg. It is a beautiful seaside village, sometimes referred to as the Namaqualand of the West Coast. It has a 2km coastline with rocky and sandy bays which edge against a deep-blue ocean.

Abalone Guest House offers rooms on a self-catering basis. Breakfast is optional and available at an extra cost. Please let us know in advance if you would like to book breakfast.

All of the rooms have wonderful views of the ocean.

Great appreciation for your help in making our stay with my wife's injured foot as comfortable as possible. This was our second time visiting Abalone. (Last time there was an error on my feedback. Everything had to be 5s! ) Anel and the staff are friendly and helpful. The place is cleaned every day (beds are made and a general "straightening" of everything). The sunsets are like in movies. Although the wind can blow fiercely, it does not bother because there is a lovely fireplace inside the house. Everything needed is there! Many thanks to the Abalone team.

"At Abalone Guest House, our souls could come back to our bodies."

Jacobs Bay has so many walking paths. It's every hiker's dream. Anel van Abalone Gastehuis is up and awake and helpful! Johanna serviced our cottage daily with such kindness and did our laundry. The stoepie provided precious quiet time with a beautiful view of the rocks and sea. The guesthouse is very easy to find. There are signs everywhere along the road. All that bothered was the construction work next door, but that also won't last forever. The West Coast labyrinth is also special to visit.

I recommend the place to everyone. Neat, clean, friendly. We had a great time and stay. And the view is special. We received a very friendly welcome and had a delicious barbecue with the most beautiful view. They definitely see me again.

Anel welcomed us very warmly. She is an excellent hostess. The house is located in the perfect place with a beautiful view of the sea. Everything you need is provided and even braai wood was left for us in the indoor and outdoor braai. I would suggest that the upstairs bathroom be partitioned off in some way - it would give better privacy. Nevertheless a beautiful place, I will return for sure!

You can rest and relax in the quiet of the West Coast with all the luxuries of the house.

Although we only spent one night at Abalone, it was everything we expected. Just a word of caution. Some of the units have many steps inside e.g. Mossel. This could be a disadvantage to folk who are no longer so young or have difficulty with steps. Maybe this should be highlighted in accommodation descriptions. My husband had a fall, but the situation was remedied immediately by the management team who moved us to another unit. Well done.

At this guest house you experience the feeling of "being at your own home". Friendly hosts Juanita and Malinda really made me feel special. Meeting the other guests, being able to "kuier" at the braai outside with a beautiful view was awesome. Waking up with a view of the ocean - what a great way to start the day! We stayed in Mossel and the location is perfect in front of the beach. You open your door and lie in bed with an unbelievable view of the ocean. The breakfast was delicious. I will recommend Abalone Gastehuis to anyone who wants to chill on the West Coast. The place is very clean and neat. Big breakfast - you can skip lunch. Juanita and her staff is friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed all the little paths and it is really safe, even for senior citizens and children.

It is not nice if there is no one to receive you upon your arrival, especially if one arrives within the check-in hours. The house was clean and the bed slept well. There were people in the self-catered unit who did not respect other guests' privacy at all. Their children were everywhere. They also visited and made noise until almost 12am which made it very difficult for us to get a good night's rest. We stayed in Mossel and the toilet also runs throughout the evening. The breakfast was very nice.

The accommodation was very comfortable, well furnished and clean. The view was fantastic and I felt very much at home in a strange environment. Due to the purpose of my visit, my breakfast had to be ready already at 06.00, and I was not disappointed. It's definitely a guest house that I would recommend and would stay there again.

Very neat and clean, well equipped for self-catering. We were even supplied with wood and firelighters! Only problem was on our last morning, we were woken up at 06:30 by loud laughter and talking in the dining room next to our cottage. The noise was not from a resident at the guest house, but rather a friend of the owner and it went on till after 7:00. It really spoilt the rest of our day.

I uploaded photos to friends and on Facebook so everyone can see what Abalone Guest House and Jacobs Bay look like with its charming blue sea. The town is peaceful, has its own atmosphere, and is not as commercial as the other towns in the area. You are close to all the big centers in the neighboring towns if you really need to go shopping. The weather didn't cooperate, but still it was incredible, there you become human again. The place has already been recommended to friends and some of them have even planned to go there. Malinda and Juanita are absolutely excellent hostesses and helpful. I will definitely go back again, to them specifically and to Jacobsbaai. So they get a full 10/10 from me.

Abalone Guest house is conveniently situated within easy walking distance to the wreck and WW2 outlook posts, with a beautiful outlook over the sea where one can comfortably enjoy the sunsets or bird-watching from the little terraces outside each room. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with everything that one needs, with meals available in the dining room at your convenience and leisure.
