Our experience was pleasant from the start. The owners sent excellent directions and everything was as promised. The overseer is Sawness and his service and helpfulness is excellent. He is truly proud of his work and workplace and very helpful with any enquiry. We would love to stay here again.
Outstanding accommodation, cleanliness and comfortable. Will always spend the night there on the way to the Cape.
Wonderful stay, everything we expected, great location and the silence was wonderful.
Exceptionally well and warmly received. Well appointed, comfortable stay. Polite and friendly staff.
Just a quick stop on my way to Cape Town. I will come back with friends/family.
Was very nice and peaceful. Arrived late and was kindly received. Made a fire and relaxed. Nighttime was very quiet in the old farmhouse.
Our one-night stay at Abrahamskraal Guest Farm was peaceful and serene; no yapping dogs, no traffic, not a soul in sight. The night sky was literally out of this world, with the Milky Way stretching from one horizon to the other. We should have stayed longer.
It is a beautiful farm with lovely old world charm. The house is beautifully furnished and met all our requirements. We experienced a lovely sunset there.
Great value for money. Was a lovely stay - in the middle of nowhere - healing for the soul. The road there was in a good state. Very friendly and forthcoming staff.
See stars.
We had a very nice stay.
Great stay! Cooling off in the little pond was a treat for tired legs and hot bodies. Great experience to be able to witness a thunderstorm during the course of the evening from the lovely stoeps! Pleasure for body and soul!
Very private, real farm that is safe, clean, tidy and everything you need for self-care.
The accommodation itself was acceptable, but upon arrival there were a bunch of unexpected campers on site that were not mentioned on the website and right on the lawn. They were quiet and peaceful, but if you book on a farm and there are few people, that's certainly not what you expect. Upon arrival I mentioned it and was put in the wrong unit. On request it was said they could move me, but after I mentioned 2 times it was not as mentioned, I decided to leave but it was an overnight stop. Insurance not as expected. Premises were neat and
Karoo places tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the N1. Lovely farmhouse with wooden floors that crackle and make you feel at home.
I had a wonderful stay. The surroundings are beautiful and the room is clean and tidy. And the stars are indescribable!
Lovely farm accommodation within the quiet Karoo. Safe. So peaceful in the middle of nature with amazing sunsets. Great place to stop over between Cape Town and Free State.
We had a great stay and enjoyed it very much.
We had a great stay, wish it was more than 1 night. Thank you for your hospitality.
Easy to get to town for dinner if needed. Lekker just to stay at the accomodation for a braai and pool swim.
After a long day on the road, we stopped at Abrahamskraal to get to an oasis in the desert. The Karoo's tranquility enveloped us and we were treated to an exceptional sunset. House was very comfortable and tidy with everything we needed. Owners are very friendly and helpful.
Lovely enjoyably farm with a lot of unique characteristics.
Lovely and calm thank you.
Beautiful location, good facilities, generous supplies coffee etc, bathroom soap etc.
A lovely spot for an overnight stop. We loved the swimming pool, and the starry night skies.
The cottage is more spacious than I expected and has everything needed without damaging the feeling that you are almost staying in a type of old farmhouse "museum". It is 10 km from the N1 on a good condition dirt road which means it really feels like you are staying on a farm. It was my first time at Abrahamskraal and I will stay there again on occasion when I holiday in the Prince Albert area (one of my favorite places in the country).
Lovely stay, perfect stop over to Cape Town.
Great stopover spot to break our journey et from JHB to Hermanus. Beds were not brilliant, mostly because we're all tall and the beds are not long!
Cottage was awesome to stay in. Secluded from the main property, enable you to enjoy stay privately. Evening sky view was amazing.
Wasn't able to make our stop as my 11-month-old got ahold of her formula the morning as we were about to leave and had to make arrangements to go another time when we will go back to JHB again. Thank you for understanding and to keep our booking for another date.
Very pleasant. Would recommend.
Beautiful house. Very private, peaceful and quiet.
Great overnight destination. Would recommend it.
Very nice place to experience the Karoo. Very private and friendly people. Will visit again for sure.
You experience the Karoo to the fullest.
We enjoyed the Karoo silence. The cottage is nicely secluded and very private. Nice covered barbecue but there is also another barbecue so you can also barbecue under the starry sky. Very friendly and helpful people. Enjoyed a lot.
My husband has been to Abrahamskraal and stayed in the Farm Cottage accommodation a number of times over the past few years, and each time we have wished to prolong our stay! The cottage is well furnished with many thoughtful touches, and we wanted for nothing during our time there. The management and staff are helpful and friendly, and the dirt road to the farm is easy to navigate and well signposted. Walking along the old Jeep tracks winding around the farm grounds is a great way to experience the vastness of the Karoo, although water and sun protection is a must: it is easy to lose track of time wandering this beautiful, timeless landscape! We also enjoyed exploring the area by car, Prince Albert is a short drive away and the two great passes of Seweweekspoort and Meiringspoort are also close enough for a day's visit. Stargazing is a great attraction for us, and the hard-packed gravel around the cottage is perfect for setting up a telescope with a near 180-degree view of the night sky. Overall, Abrahamskraal is a place we will enjoy returning to again and again. Thank you to Hestie and Sawness for their hospitality, we appreciate the work you do to keep this place the charming and restful retreat we have always found it to be.
We once again had a nice overnight stay in the Karoo.
We have slept on many farms in the Karoo. Abrahamskraal's cement farm dam is an absolute winner and a pleasure. The house dates back to 1912 and the creaking plank floors and twist handles did not disappoint. It is a lovely house and we were very excited to rest the night there before we would start the long 12 hours to the house the next day. However, there was no question of rest. We couldn't open any windows because there were so many mosquitoes. The roof fans are also mounted too high on the ceiling so that they have no effect. So it was a very hot night without any fresh air. Nice big standing fans will make a huge difference. The mattresses are not comfortable either. We got up at noon and got our camping mattress out of the car and continued to try to sleep on the floor. The other guests tried to make the best of the discomfort. (Except for the people who slept in the two-bed room closest to the front door.) It's such a beautiful place, but we didn't get the rest we needed. The kitchen is also very basic and doesn't really match the rest of the house. The braai area is very comfortable and you can have fun there.
Cute little place. Neatly maintained. Hungry mosquitoes!
Couldn't bathe in the cottage, taps didn't work. Floors were very sanded clean in the cottage and enough kitchen cloths and drying cloths were lacking, also sharp knife for carving, a grater, a cutting board. The living room table was dusty and under it was a nest of gecko mess! Steak knives for cutting roast beef would also be quite welcome. The mattresses on some of the beds were really gross and the sleep was uncomfortable which was a shame because the bedding was lovely - that's now in both the houses we've lived in. Some of the extra blankets were dirty. Sticky stuff or something stuck to it. We were asked if we as 3 families with children would mind being accommodated in two houses as they were expecting a group of hunters. There were then only 4 hunters for whom we had to give up the whole large farmhouse as a family instead of being able to all stay comfortably together in one house. While we thought it was going to be a large group of hunters and we were accommodating with the Fouries about this so they could be fully booked for the weekend - I call it tongue in cheek that I think the better part of the property was allocated to Distell's financial manager and his 2 fellow hunters while the Scheepers sisters had to make do with the weaker housing units! Fortune and Sonas were the bright spots of the day and I didn't mind leaving them an additional tip daily.
The duvet is heavy on the body and it was quite cold.
Beautiful place! Stole our hearts!
Lovely, quiet and tidy.
The cottage is particularly cozy. The main house has beautiful old fashioned grace. Walking in the field very enriching. Endless fun for grandchildren who could run, swim and play.
The staff is very pleasant and friendly. I felt very safe. Will definitely come again!
Beautiful farmhouse in which we stayed. Big rooms and big bathrooms. The silence was wonderful.
They also offer a service where you can buy the best roasts, lamb chops and sausages for your barbecue. Will definitely use them again.
We got married at Abrahamskraal in 2018 and will keep coming back as long as possible. The silence, space and stars are very special. The farm pond is a winner to cool off in in the summer!
The location, size and amenities were perfect for 8 friends or 4 couples to have a holiday together. The "Windpomp" swimming pool was a welcome reprieve from the heat. Would definitely recommend as well as book this place for a week away again!
Nice.
Loved staying on the farm - plenty of space in the cottage and a great stop-over.
Lovely place, with picture-perfect nature. Looked at the stars at night and took in and appreciated the beautiful Karoo. Children had fun cycling and swimming.
We stayed in the old Hete house. Very comfortable, clean and tidy. Has everything you need. Could sit on the porch and enjoy the sunset. We also went for a long walk on the farm to stretch our legs. We also had a nice barbecue under a clear starry sky. Beds comfortable and delicious hot water. If you like a farm this is the place to spend the night on the way to the Cape.
Has a beautiful view of the mountain and the stars.
The only thing they should try and control better is the flies and mosquitoes.
The summer days are very hot, but the house inside remained cool during the day. Johan went out of his way to help me with an issue I had with my equipment, and I am very grateful for it. Sawness and his wife Fortune were very welcoming and helpful. Thank you for arranging the towel. The only issue I had was with the water pressure, it was taxing taking a shower. But I am grateful that there was at least water considering the lack of rain in the region. Will be seeing you guys again!
We appreciated the mosquito machines.
The fact that we were far away from others was very nice.
What a treat for the eyes and soul when we could sleep here after a long journey. The moon and stars have never been so bright and beautiful. The place was neat and everything was there for a comfortable overnight stay. Would definitely recommend and definitely stay here again.
See stars.
Very neat and well furnished. Just the place for those who like open spaces, silence and farm. The owner is very friendly and helpful. You can definitely see her hand in the fine detail with which everything is rounded off. I spent the night in the farmhouse and the cottage. The farmhouse is beautiful with period furniture. The cottage is my favorite though - aside, private, makes you feel like you're the only person in the Karoo. Deliciously blissful! Extremely good value for money. Just by the way, I unknowingly took a novel spider in my suitcase to my next destination and on the way back, when I spent the night in the cottage, a wildcat caught its prey right in front of me, probably about 150m away, while I was on the sitting on the porch! This may not be the ideal place for someone looking for luxury, but for someone who knows the farm, it is heaven on earth.
We were blown away - what a venue! The moon rising over the Karoo, a fire burning and a drink on the veranda. The accommodation and facilities are great. We will be back.
Stunning traditional farm cottage. So peaceful.
The house was more than we expected and well equipped. It had an especially personal feel.
It was nice not to have anyone near me.
Central to the area and villages we wanted to visit.
Delicious! The stars were beautiful and the house pleasant. Much bigger than I expected! Although the Karoo is still very dry, this destination still has a fair amount of water, and we were able to swim in the farm pond after a very hot day on the road.
We will definitely stay at Abrahamskraal again.
Ideal for large groups whom require to stay in one location.
Made to feel very welcome. Real farm feel.
Staying one night at Abrahamskraal is simply too little. Clean. Restful. And the night sky: Stars. Stars. Stars. Overall: A good choice for overnight accommodation and simply good for the heart and soul.
We had a wonderful visit to this beautiful Karoo farm - everything was excellent! The house has a lovely and friendly atmosphere - with the best patio to admire the sunset. The private braai area is very well appointed and was a favourite place to socialise. It was an unforgettable weekend with lots of fresh air, silence and rest! Thank you to Hestie and her team.
A lovely, roomy cottage. We were immediately charmed by the thoughtfulness present in everything from the design of the building, to the complimentary amenities provided. We felt completely at home from the moment we arrived and did not want for anything at all over our weekend stay. Would definitely recommend to others and hope to visit this peaceful part of the Karoo again soon. Thank you to Hestie for accommodating our late arrival from Cape Town, and for being so quick to find a solution when we realised the power was out!
Had a great time and received wonderful hospitality. Beautiful Karoo farm. Will definitely visit again.
Located in the beautiful, peaceful Karoo. A perfect getaway for shutting off the world and finding yourself again.
Most enjoyable one night stay. Quite and peaceful environment with lovely sunrise and sunset views. Cottage spacious, clean and tidy with an informative host. We enjoyed a very delicious dinner in our cottage with excellent customer services rendered overall. All the recommended attractions areas visited was worth while and time well spent. Fig and olive farm in the surrounding areas. Thank you very much for your kindness. It is highly appreciated.
We had a lovely weekend at Abrahamskraal. Hestie was very helpful in moving our original booking after work plans got in the way of our weekend. This weekend there was nothing in our way and we could just sit, rest, cycle, walk a bit and sit some more. The cottage is very comfortable with everything we needed. Coffee plunger, feather duvet against the cold. The fireplace inside is small, but works well. Remember to ask how the shower's heat pump works, otherwise you may struggle with low water pressure. Please discuss for dinner. Just do it. It was super delicious! Seeing my boys eat salad of their own free will is a miracle. Traditional Karoo farm food at its best. Karookuier at its best.
Was very nice on the farm.
The cottage is private, very spacious and has fans in the lounge and two of the three bedrooms. It was incredibly hot and windy and we were very grateful for the ice we could get. The braai area is fully equipped, with wood that made the perfect coals. The ice and wood are very reasonably priced. The gravel road is in excellent condition.
The Karoo offers a unique experience and it was a privilege to stay in the old farmhouse. Hestie's hospitality was underlined by a delicious dinner that will stay with us for a long time.
It was a lovely stop on our trip through the Karoo. Hope to spend more time next time!
Clean, neat, peaceful, private. Our expectations were exceeded. You'll see us again shortly!
It was a fantastic and authentic experience to spend the night on the farm. Would recommend to anyone.
I would recommend Abrahamskraal to anyone. The farmhouse is beautiful and the view over the Karoo plains even better.
Very clean and tidy room with everything that was needed. I was received kindly even though I only checked in after 22:00.
We had a great stay and booked one of the self-catering units first. We later asked if we could have dinner. Hestie received us very kindly and prepared a fantastic dinner that we enjoyed in the conference room. There was enough wood in the fireplace in our unit so we could make a nice fire. It's close to the N1 - about 11 km, and you don't hear the traffic.
A piece of oasis in the Karoo, friendly, people-people, peaceful peace for your soul, find yourself a place.
Will stop there again anytime. Beautiful natural silence and breathtaking starry sky. What an experience! Took me back to my childhood on the farm.
Nice place to stay. Quiet.
See the stars.
No person can put into words the hospitality you receive here. Thank you very much for a well maintained facility and the willingness to share it with people. Hestie goes out of her way to make her guests feel at home. The staff deserves a thumbs up for the way they treat guests and this can clearly be seen in the atmosphere that is present on the farm. Definitely a next visit to Abrahamskraal for me.
What a wonderful experience to saddle up in the middle of the Karoo after a long day's travel. The vast plains and silence are food for your soul. Lighting a fire and grilling a chop makes it extra special. Thanks for all your effort. We recommend Abrahamskraal at any time for those who like the Karoo and its silences.
Friendly welcome. Environment breathtaking. Total stay overwhelming, you don't feel like traveling further once you've packed up there, especially if you're a Karoo child who now lives in the city. The nostalgia and homesickness still hangs thick in my memory. Oh, see you again for sure! And we bring more people with us who need that kind of peace and quiet! Thank you!
Friendly and helpful people - Johan quickly fixed my flat tyre! Everything is clean and tidy. The location, silence and tranquillity speaks to your soul! Happened upon it by chance, but as stated - nothing is a coincidence! Will definitely go back for a decent visit.
The hospitality and tranquility of the surroundings make you want to stay even longer. One night was hopelessly too little.
Very neat, people sociable and friendly.
Very clean and neat in a beautiful old farmhouse, perfect for anyone who needs a place to rest halfway to the Karoo. Hestie was so considerate even though we only showed up late at night. Maybe I'd just like to recommend installing a light at the outside entrance, because it is pitch dark at night and a bit difficult to see.
Fantastic Karoo experience.
Relaxing with stunning natural beauty. Great, neat house.
Pleasantly surprised. As an overnight destination it exceeded all expectations. Will stay longer in the future and enjoyed the area.
We regret not being able to stay langer at this stunning old farm house. Definitely a place to spend a weekend at to recharge your batteries. Lovely owners with great country hospitality. Thank you for a nice, relaxing stay!
Stayed here for one night on the way from Cape Town to Durban. Historical old Dutch style farmhouse, charmingly decorated and very well equipped. No WiFi. Hosts don't stay on property but in nearby Prince Albert. Staff on grounds. Beautiful Karoo scenery and peaceful surroundings. Could have stayed longer just to chill out on the verandah. If self-catering bring dinner as there are no shops closeby. The nearest town is at least 20 minutes' drive away on an unlit sand road. I believe there are good restaurants there.
On a motorcycle tour, friendly reception ealry in the evening was much appreciated. Stunning place, peaceful, and equipped with everything you need to prepare your own meals. Unfortunately had to get some takeaways because there wasn't any space for groceries on the bike. Spacious, beautiful wooden floors and lots of atmosphere! Wonderful gravel road to the farm!
