This resort is a unique ‘base camp’ village for a host of holiday pursuits, and it offers superb accommodation, fine cuisine and excellent conference and wedding facilities. Sports enthusiasts can indulge in a multitude of activities nearby, ranging from horse riding and fishing to high adrenalin sports, including quad biking, paintball and canopy tours. There’s also a ‘fantastic’ variety of children’s entertainment and a daily adult activity programme as well.
The resort has 100 luxuriously appointed, fully-equipped chalets offering panoramic mountain views from comfortable lounges, a fireplace for those romantic wintery evenings, a kitchen, a patio, satellite TV and 3 cosy bedrooms. Guests also have access to a braai area.
In addition to having a superb spa, aha Alpine Heath Resort offers a number of great dining options at various on-site eateries. Guests can enjoy the culinary delights from the coffee shop, pool bar, pizzeria and tavern. Alternatively, guests can opt for self-catering meals with delicious produce from the local village.
Many natural wonders and World Heritage Sites are easily accessible from aha Alpine Heath Resort including The Royal National Park, the historical Spioenkop Battlefields, picturesque Tugela Falls, and Falcon Ridge.
aha Alpine Heath Resort is truly a highlight of the Drakensberg, and it’s what makes this unique berg village so popular all year round.

51 guests' feedbackWe had a fantastic time!
Very grateful that we didn't have to stay near the pool, "town" and the noise of holiday entertainment!
So much to keep busy! The children enjoyed it immensely. And us adults too. Clean and tidy. Friendly service! Nature is incredible! We would love to visit again.
The best, peaceful and tranquil home. Everyone was perfect. The restaurant serves affordable and delicious food.
We really enjoyed our time at aha Alpine Heath Resort. The staff and staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The units are neat, clean and well equipped. The bedding is clean, tidy and I can't fault the resort. I would definitely recommend and definitely go back again for a longer visit. It's just a shame that the "church building" is not in use. It would definitely have been special if it was used as a church.
Lovely relaxing weekend with family.
We really enjoyed our stay at Alpine Heath. The chalets were very clean and well equipped. Will definitely go back!
It was a pleasant stay. The staff are always helpful. The shop is well stocked.
It was a good one and I really enjoyed it, just that the weekend was short.
There is enough to do but not too much, so you relax nicely.
Value for money, however, the cleaners only do dishes.
We had a great stay and had a great time. There is a lot to do and to keep you busy. aha Alpine Heath Resort is very well located in beautiful surroundings. The braai place is only a bit bad when it rains. They can easily build a shed there.
Overall a pleasant stay with amazing views good activities for the kids. Chalet dated. insufficient tv channels for kids and the picture quality was poor. The toaster did not work.
Beds very uncomfortable. Resort needs an interior upgrade. Oven door was broken. TV had a line running across the screen. Iron was pathetic. Lots of water around the chalets. No drainage system.
Nature, hiking trails, mountain biking, swimming pools and much more. Beautiful natural area.
So much to do on one premises. No need to wonder how to keep kids busy. Beautiful surroundings and friendly staff. Something that could be improved is more storage bins in the kitchen. And bird droppings at the barbecue area on the bricks and on outside lights. But definitely recommended.
The chalet was super clean and the fire place was an absolute bonus.
There was no problem there. The cleaners just talk terribly loudly early in the morning.
Perfect holiday destination with family with lots of activities, adventures close by, affordable and excellent meals at the restaurant. Relaxing atmosphere with pool, spa etc. Family loved and enjoyed their stay, thank you.
I would rate the chalet 3 stars, also small, but the resort itself was a great experience.
Was lovely, peaceful. Unfortunately could not do all the walking routes due to all the rain But overall it was very beautiful and delicious.
The children really enjoyed the facilities, especially the putt-putt and archery.
The resort is well managed. The staff are generally extremely friendly, open and helpful. The atmosphere is peaceful thanks to the strict anti-noise policy and the babbling stream. Goats and horses graze between the chalets. Chalets are well equipped, with even electric blankets. The Cascades and Oribi hiking trails are very beautiful and not too difficult, but your feet may get wet on the Cascades trail, so bring your own towel, or plastic bags to try and keep your shoes dry. The Cascades are worth it - beautiful! The restaurants and bar are good. The shop is basically just a snack/gift shop. The facilities/activities for children are fantastic!
Great peaceful location, friendly staff and good customer service.
Cleaning of cottages could improve them, but at first glance acceptable. The grid was indeed changed daily with clean grid. Security guard (Samuel) received us very kindly and greeted us! Definitely a good asset.
Beautiful, relaxing and tranquil environment, which also offers a multitude of activities for all family members. All this convenience while on the door step of open spaces that the mountian range offers.
Unit was not clean and place mats dirty that we could not use. Fridge needs attention, especially the freezer - you should definitely not store food here!
Alpine Heath is a resort for people that like being entertained. We prefer quiet accommodation in the Drakensberg and lot of hikes in the area.
We had a wonderful time with my family. Will go back again.
They welcomed us with nice braai, where by we brought our own meat and they provide us with pap and salads. They do have entertainment. I would definitely recommend it and next year we will back again at Alpine Resort. Expect our quote in February or March 2022.
See stars.
The only down side was we need to drive to Bergville for firewood, as the resort had run out - but they were unbelievably helpful when we needed wood at the last minute - Andile and Mbali were so helpful and really so gracious - thank you.
Boys really enjoyed the tennis. All the activities are free with very friendly staff. The residential units are very nice and warm with the indoor fireplace. There are extras on site such as horses and the spa.
Clean and spacious, great facilities for families.
The carpets in the cottage's rooms were very dirty and very cramped. Not reflective of photo at all. Two children drowned in the children's pool, very traumatic, and we ourselves thought it was a dangerous pool to write "kiddies pool".
The resort must be able to keep their visitors in check. You arrive at such a resort, pay dearly to enjoy it and to relax. Then you get neighbors who play deafening music and still hang out until what time in the evening.
Hiking trails, amphitheater breathtaking, accommodation clean and tidy, somewhat overpriced for two.
It was a very nice holiday except that the spa staff were very clumsy and unfit.
Our family of 5 (which included 2 teens and a pensioner) had a wonderful stay at Alpine. So peaceful, relaxing and truly home away from home.
The place is amazing, the staff is absolutely friendly, always willing to help especially Victor, the tour guide. The rooms are neat and well equipped, the bathrooms are neat and always have hot water running. I love this place and I am definitely going to do it again.
Super friendly welcome at the gate! Chalet was neat, well equipped and (except for a few cobwebs in the bathroom) very clean. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Lots of entertainment for kids and family. A lovely weekend getaway. We will definitely go again.
Really enjoyed resort. Can recommend to anyone. If you want quiet during busy periods (such as long weekends) you will have to choose the unit very carefully. It can get very busy and loud. What I found strange is that certain units have built-in braai facilities and some do not. If you stay in a unit that doesn't have one, you can rent a braai from the resort for R80 per day.
Our stay was booked for the 19th of May, on arrival we were told that there is an outstanding balance by 2 staff members named Avuyile and the manager that was there on the day around 2pm. We had booked 2 chalets and payments were made in full for both the units in advance. I had even emailed confirmations of these payments to the establishment but obviously that was not followed up by staff. I was very disappointed with this because even after showing the required info staff still insisted we owe money. After an hour of this eventually we were told that it looks like everything is in order but they would look into it.
Presented with chalet content list (with prices) on arrival and reception were insistent that we check it off first time. The staff were insistent that we do the task as we would be charged for anything found missing. Numerous items missing and not replaced. Unit smelt of sewerage. Windows had to be propped open with kitchen knives as mechanisms were faulty. We did this to try and relieve the smell. Linen, cutlery, walls, microwave and toilet dirty. The kettle didn't work, the safe was broken, the tiles fell off the headboard onto our daughter's head, the fireplace leaked water into the lounge when it rained, the socket missing safety cover. Cobwebs on the ceiling fans. Broken glass on the grass outside the unit. Double bed sagged in the middle, pillows cheap and lumpy. No washing up liquid or cloth supplied despite asking twice. They expect things to be missing/stolen and have an unfriendly policy for dealing with it. This is a resort with either the wrong guests or the wrong staff. Staff were friendly and professional and I felt quite sorry for them. In light of the poor appointment of the unit, I will not be paying the balance of the account - it took 4 hours to "check-in" including the presence of a team of cleaners we asked for to get the worst of the grime off the unit. I have photos of some of the issues. All in all, a negative experience and shockingly overpriced for the state of the unit. Would not recommend.
Nice place for an overnight stay on route to the coast. Lots to do. So sleeping over for two nights would be better.
Our place was on a terrible hill to get to our car. Why are there no porters ready available? I called for one and 40 min later they arrived. No air conditioners - for the price I won't ever go back as you can go to many other places that will help you with bags and have airconditioning in the rooms. The steel chairs outside are also very uncomfortable.
Entertainment for children was poorly planned. Food was disappointing.
It was a great weekend. Very sporty and active. Clean. Good customer service. Units could use an upgrade and be better equipped in the kitchen, but overall, fantastic! Northern Drakensberg is peaceful.
See the stars below.
It's very beautiful in the mountains. If you are looking for tranquility, this is not the place. There are no facilities for barbecuing at your cottage. You have to pay extra to rent a gas grill. The furniture is not good quality at all. If you like your children to be kept busy all day for a fee, this is a place you can consider. If you just want to be in nature and enjoy the tranquility, Alphine Heath is not for you.
The furniture was old and we had to pay for the wood for the fireplace ourselves. The restaurants are damn expensive.
