86 guests' feedbackWonderful to wake up in a farm setting and enjoy the olive groves.
Very interesting host, everything needed is available. Very nice. Quiet and rural!
It was incredibly fun. Very spacious, peaceful and with a 100% Karoo atmosphere.
We loved our stay. We had a braai in the evening and the stars were breathtaking. The cottage is quaint and quirky, with everything you need. I loved that it was tucked away off the main road, so it was peaceful and quiet. I will definitely stay there again.
Although short (just a passing night stay), it was very comfortable and exactly what we needed at a great price.
Nice stay. If you want to drive around and just sleep.
Excellent overnight guest house! The guest house was neat, clean and excellently equipped for our purpose of spending the night there. We will definitely use the service again in the future. We were very pleased with our experience. Would recommend to others any time.
We were not expected although we had booked and paid in full. The cottage was not available, so we were accommodated in the main house. The basin and sink were surrounded by wood, which is not very hygienic in my opinion. Cutlery and crockery were an assortment of odd items. The bed was comfortable with crisp clean bedding.
Friendly reception, even though we were late after driving through the Swartberg Pass. We were surprised with the detail in the unit. Very artistic and beautiful woodwork and antiques. Garden is very beautiful with all kinds of interesting handmade decor. View over the mountains is beautiful and the stars are amazing in the evening. We will definitely stay here again.
The few days in beautiful Prince Albert were rest for the soul. We would definitely recommend the Aloe Guest House to anyone looking for peace and quiet in the beautiful Karoo.
We definitely fell in love with Prince Albert and also Peter's beautiful place! Peter is the best host and we really felt like we were quietly tucked away on a Karoo farm.
Peter is a great host and the house has a rustic and relaxing feel to it. Perfect for a big group.
We were very kindly received and felt welcome in the Prince Albert village. The unit had a beautiful view over the Karoo's plains. Everything we needed was available. The Aloe Guest House is not too far out of town so we had a nice meal at the restaurants in town and then returned to dead silence and the ability to see far. The Guest House is next to an olive grove which has contributed to a farm feel. It was a lovely sleepover.
We immediately felt at home and at ease. The space was more than enough for the 5 of us. Linen and towels clean and good quality. Upper bathroom has the best view from the "throne". The location is ideal for exploring Prince Albert. The sky was covered with the most beautiful stars. It was nice to have a Spar so close for what you might have forgotten. We admired and appreciated the owner's artwork that was visible everywhere on the site. Lots of history on the farm.
We stayed with our friends in Aloe Guest House with the Prince George bike race over the Swartberg Pass. The house is beautiful, spacious and picturesque. The long table in the living area and on the porch suited the cyclists very well. The braaier between the Spekbome was truly a hit. We had a very nice stay there. We would all recommend that more attention should be paid to the glasses and mugs that were not very clean. Then also the drying rack! Big please invest in a new one and get rid of the old 'horrible green' one. Thank you Peter for your kind welcome.
Cupboards and shelves are needed in all the bedrooms. A ladder propped against the wall is just not enough.
Nice old farmhouse. Very quiet and peaceful.
Place was very nice and so was Peter.
Real farm atmosphere.
Nice farm atmosphere, but not very tidy.
The bedding was dirty, it is definitely not washed every time. The pillows smell and have stains on them. The house is dirty. The curtains are untidy.
Missed coffee and English tea, everything else was nice and good.
The setting was rural and lovely. Just on the edge of town. The cottage was very quaint, furnished comfortably. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The pool is not clean and looks dirty. The owners are not keen to connect the TV so we miss the rugby sevens.
Thank you for accommodating us. Everything was clean and great facilities for our family. We highly recommend it.
Accommodation and reception were very good. Dinner at Karro Kitchen was excellent.
Spacious accommodation and lovely patio.
Spacious accommodation and especially enjoyed the long table around which people visited.
We loved the open space and quiet. Amazing fireplace! Our kids loved the little piglets and goats. Relaxed vibe and beautiful surroundings.
Bedding had dust on, I was too scared to sleep under the covers.
Love the rustic, ancient Karoo feeling. Would stay there again anytime.
The old Karoo house had so much charm and it was wonderful sitting on the step and watching the sunset. The accommodation was clean and well kitted out.
See stars.
Aloe Guest House exceeded our expectations, the fact that it is located a little outside the town made it the perfect place where we could have a real Karoo experience. A getaway outside a small town surrounded by the most beautiful scenery, as they say in English: Less is more. In my experience so much more! We would recommend Aloe with the highest praise. See you soon Peter.
Gorgeous sunrise in a peaceful setting.
Just a quiet place to relax with the family. Very cute town and the ghost tour is a must with Ailsa if you like history.
The establishment was very relaxed and informal. There was a Spar store close at hand for grocery needs.
A very nice place, wood everywhere inside, nice tiles, good shower, nice seat, looking north, everything is just perfect.
Nice place, will definitely return to stay here.
Prince Albert is a lovely old town which I last visited in 1979 with my parents. It is no longer the same, of course, progress and change. Aloe Guest House, wonderful, and I highly recommend staying there. Thank you.
Cottage equipped with the basics. Quiet environment. Karoo experience with a view of the black mountains. Cottage clean and has the basics with braai facilities outside. Can explore town from there, theater is recommended. The butcher's biltong, roasts and lamb chops are something to write home about.
Relax and enjoy silence.
Lack of detail (no wood or lighters for fireplace wood, was bitterly cold). Only one lounge sofa (4 person unit). Not enough coffee cups.
Very quaint, basic accommodation. Helped us click over into a simpler way of being as we left the city for our Karoo holiday. We would recommend taking extra blankets or hot water bottles in winter. Fortunately our initial disappointment with the swampy swimming pool and the cottage (photos on the website are not recent) was soon replaced with the real enjoyment of the freedom, fresh air, stargazing and morning sun on the stoep.
Bedding was not clean and not tidy at all. One bed only had a blanket left. There were only 3 forks for 6 bedrooms. No one seemed to have prepared for our arrival. Dirty and unkempt. Very disappointed. And wasn't cheap, either.
Pieter was friendly, but not intrusive and helped us organise a few things.
The quirky homemade rustic furniture and artwork in the garden, the lovely fireplace for the cold winter evenings, the en-suite bedrooms, the Karoo lamb chops on the BBQ. We experienced most welcomed rain in the Karoo! Spring will soon be very colourful here!

Had a great stay with the stars above you and the natural beauty on your doorstep. Comfortable but simple. Friendly and fast service.
The view over mountains we enjoyed the pool, house was nice, clean, it was an unforgettable weekend, we enjoyed the stay very much, will come again.
Was just very basic, unimaginative and wildly hot.
Upon arrival, we were greeted outside the building by a person who received the payment just like that without giving any proof that payment had been received. The house was nice and small and cool for the heat, enough for just 3 people (parents and 1 child). The pool was not human friendly. It has bugs and mosquitoes in it and is full of leaves ─ very disappointed. We were not informed that it looked like this. We found the fridge in the unit to be just too small for everything, it was a bar fridge. Luckily we took our own camping freezer with us otherwise we wouldn't have had enough room for the cold stuff. The grilling tool was broken, the tongs were tied together with a piece of wire. No control over who enters and exits the main gate.
Really enjoyed our stay.
Our experience was very pleasant. The owner put a lot of effort into accommodating us earlier because we had pets with us. He also made special provision for lamps and equipment during load shedding. I would recommend this guesthouse to anyone. It's very well equipped and it's a very nice plot.
Nice and quiet. What a beautiful view.
Neat unit (family suite) with comfortable lounge. Karoo silence and beautiful views for a larger group of people. Single person may feel a little isolated.
A beautiful country-style house. The oven unfortunately did not work but the braai at the neighbours did! A good place to go again.
The oven is dirty and does not work, there is a lot of dust under the carpets and the house is full of dust.
Lovely farm tranquility opposite the town. Was top notch and stay was great. Highly recommended if you are looking for rest.
Very comfortable, very peaceful!
Very neat, fully equipped. Very nice stay. Friendly reception. Will definitely recommend to other people.
The guest house is very private and peaceful and perfect for accommodation in Prince Albert.
Everything was neat and clean and safe.
This is a beautiful place equipped with all necessities. We enjoyed our stay around the large table in front of the fireplace. Would love to visit again.
Beautifully creative and practical facilities. View beautiful.
For overnight accommodation it is okay.
The peaceful farm atmosphere makes one forget all the hustle and bustle of the city. Everything we needed was there and more. What's nicer than lighting a fire and watching the sun set in the Karoo.
The place was acceptable with a few things here and there lacking like a decent can opener, no broom. The bathrooms have minimal ventilation and are quite cramped. The view of the Black Mountains is breathtakingly beautiful and the stars very beautiful there. What was bad is that the owner then wanted to make me pay again for funds that I had already transferred!
Place was neat, but it didn't feel like home.
Aloe is on the ridge of the town so it's nice and quiet. Accommodation is neat and clean and very comfortable. However, it is the old world, characterful, rustic charm that makes this a special accommodation option.
It was my second time at Aloe Guest House! Unforgettable tranquillity and beautiful. Very friendly service every time - thank you!
Very cute place. Highly recommended.
Lovely accommodation, except that only 3 of the beds were made up and we booked for 3 women and 1 child. And there were only 1 set of towels. Luckily we had our own towels with us. We also had to call reception to show us how the oven works. The man at reception was very helpful and kind and went out of his way to help us.
Shaun extremely helpful and friendly to leave you comfortable for a pleasant time. My boy enjoyed the farm implements. House very cool, nice wide porch. Everything you need for self-catering.
The WiFi is very fickle and with it the TV reception. Personal taste will determine whether one will like the eccentric decor. It was not entirely to our taste, but the cottage is comfortable with all essentials. For us personally, the advertisement on the website was a bit misleading as it is located quite far from everything, and certainly not within walking distance. Otherwise it was comfortable, the crockery and linen are perfectly acceptable.
Great place with a great setting, unfortunately the place was dusty with cobwebs and the shower was dirty,we also have a hard time with the TV (Netflix) just as we start watching something the program freezers's and by the next morning could not access Netflix at all (we have little kids that enjoys settling down with a story on TV, but expect for that, fantastic place with all you need in a self-catering cottage!! Beautiful house with so much character!!
The owners of the guesthouse left only 1 employee on duty in their absence. The duties of the employee overlapped which caused him to not be able to provide the guests with a quality service. As a paying guest, I expect that my company and I will be received at the guest house and not have to drive confusedly behind people in a strange town. With this, I am not saying that the man on duty acted unprofessionally, or poorly at all, but I place the blame on the owners and/or management of Aloe Gastehuis. Furthermore, provision was not made for the booked number of guests (3). Thanks for the WiFi and comfortable beds.
This was my first visit to the fabulous Prince Albert. The stay at Aloe was wonderful and pet friendly. It has everything you would need. I already recommended Aloe to family who love travelling.
See stars.
Wonderful experience in a very nice little town!
Pleasant surprise from the get-go. It was a hot day and the house was nice and cool and that without aircon. The building and décor suits a Karoo stay according to me. The only thing that bothered me was the amount of mosquitoes in Prince Albert, so we suggest that any visitor plans well to avoid that unpleasantness. The location of Aloe Guest House suited us because it was so far removed from the craziness of town and it has such a nice farm feeling.
The house is very comfortable, great bedrooms with lovely shower. Everything you need for self-catering in a quiet part of town. However, my wife felt unsafe because there was very little security.
