Alpine Swift Trails is a high altitude training facility situated on a farm just outside the town of Rhodes in the Eastern Cape Highlands. The facility is ideal to enhance personal sports performance in a natural and clean environment, away from the busy city life and its distractions.
The accommodation comprises 6 rooms and a campsite. Each room can accommodate 4 guests. The Quattro rooms contain 2 bunk beds, and are built around the swimming pool. The rooms have access to a shared bathroom. The Duo rooms also face the swimming pool, and contain double beds and bunk beds, as well as an en-suite bathroom with a bath and a shower. All rooms have access to a shared lounge with a fireplace, a dining room and kitchen. No towels or toiletries are supplied in any of the rooms.
The campsite comprises ablution facilities, a camp gazebo, structured deck with a braai area as well as plug points and lights. Guests are required to bring their own camping equipment. This campsite is next to the main road leading from Rhodes to Maclear. Wild camping are available along the stretch of the Bell River or in the mountain. There are no plug points at the wild camping spots. The ablution facilities for wild camping are at the main reception building where there are plug points available if needed.
Guests are welcome to make use of the swimming pool and the braai area and have access to secure parking. Other on-site facilities include coaching, a tennis court, a gym and hiking trails and fly-fishing. With a base altitude of 1820 m above sea level, up to 2725 m above sea level, the facility offers training for on- and off-road running or mountain biking.
The farm is situated just 4 km from Rhodes Village on the district road that leads to Maclear via the renowned Naude’s Neck Pass. Guests should take note that all roads to Rhodes are gravel and the owner must be contacted regarding conditions and best routes. Google maps does not give accurate traveling time or safest routes. There is a basic grocery shop on the premises. There are pets on the premises: dogs, cats and peacock which could make noise.

15 guests' feedbackThe location is perfect along the river surrounded by mountains and farm life. The ablutions are clean. The host is very friendly and helpful. We even had a spotted eagle owl hooting near the tent in the evening.
Given option to move campsite (to 'dam') as the other ('garden') was filled with a large group. Thus, we had the dam area to ourselves, plus additional shelter in the rain. Enjoyed the time at Alpine Swifit.
Hilton and Sunelle are helpful. Wonderful host and hostess. Will support them endlessly.

Off season, only guests, beautiful large room and bathroom. Very nice host and wife, so you can just enjoy and relax. A beautiful scenic route through Naudés Nek pass.
The natural pool provided a lot of good fun in the hot days. Very kindly received. Place is neat and pleasant. Rhodes area is beautiful and Alpine Swift is perfectly located.
We stayed 2 nights, but it was far too short. To experience and explore everything at least 5 nights. It was short, but still well rested and got some exercise. Hiltan was very helpful and hospitable. We will definitely visit again in the winter.
Although Alpine Swift Trails is actually set up for a group, we still enjoyed our stay here. We had the whole place to ourselves. Unfortunately the owners were away on holiday when we were there, but the staff still made sure everything was in place. regarding location they are about 5 km outside Rhodes. We explored the mountain passes from here (To Tiffendell and Naude's Nek.) Would have liked to go jogging a bit on their trails, but without the host there, it was not accessible to us.
We really appreciated the hospitality and atmosphere. Next time we will bring the children and grandchildren and then stay longer.
Very basic amenities that are clean and tidy. Ideal for anglers. Within walking distance of the river with plenty of fish (given the weather is good). Owners (Sunelle and Hylton) are very helpful and friendly. Was an ideal place to stay for us.
Facilities neat and location is good. Beautiful view of mountains and Tiffedeal easily accessible from there.
Although Alpine Swift may not be intended for those for whom luxury and comfort are everything, the experience remains luxurious and comfortable. The surroundings are breathtaking, the facilities are superb and the service unbeatable. Hilton and Sunelle's personal involvement makes one feel immediately at home and when you leave it is like friends you leave behind. They are always ready to take care of any need or problem and go out of their way to make sure all their guests are comfortable and have the best possible experience. We will definitely go back and highly recommend Alpine Swift if you love adventure and nature and want to recharge mentally.
We stayed at Alpine Swift Trails for two nights. 60km dirt road from Barkley East to this venue, but it is worth it - spectacular views! Hylton and Sunelle were welcoming and shared information about two trails from the venue - both offer scenic views. Unique experience that I highly recommend.
