Really enjoyed being able to unplug and reset at this place. It really offered me exactly what I needed, which was to break away from the typical city buzz and detox from technology.

If you want complete quiet with limited cellphone interruptions, this is the place. It is 7 km down a gravel road and 25 km from the nearest shops. It is a place to go and completely chill out. The view is spectacular with views of all parts of Gauteng all lit up at night. On the way back to the M5, we stopped at a Jodev Farm Stall which sold all types of meat and homegrown vegetables. Would go back again.

The cabin is very homely with everything you need to self-cater and a gas geyser for guaranteed hot water. We loved the views over the Rhino and Lion Park, the peace and quiet, and the call of the jackal in the evenings. A great weekend getaway!
If you're looking for isolation, this is it. We had such a peaceful time and the attention to detail was such a lovely warm touch. Thank you for sharing this beautiful gem with us! If you look at the pictures you can believe that this is the scenery you are going to get. Spectacular sunrises! The lions roaring and jackals are about the only sound you hear. Love that there is no TV! Absolutely stunning!
Peaceful and clean cottage. Great quality bedding, beds and pillows. Pretty and well-maintained. Not enough space in main kitchen bin. Ran out of hot water various times due to water pump not working when power is off - they need a solution for this as it impacts the overall experience. Website says that they offer hiking trails, but none are located at their venue. Very disappointing. Blinds on main windows still let in the bright light at night, impacting sleep. Insufficient lights when power is off. Owners could have checked up on guests more. No gas heaters provided although cold in winter and without electricity to run heaters.
Will definitely go back. I would recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights. I love the tranquility and nature.

It was a wonderful birthday celebration with friends in the beautiful log cabin that felt like heaven between the mountains and the distant city. Been wonderful.
Alto Log Cabin is geleë een uur van Pretoria af wat dit die ideale wegbreek maak as jy graag nie omring wil wees met mense nie. Dit is letterlik 'n Cabin in die berge en dale van daai area se plase. So dis privaat en die landskap is beeldskoon. In die vroegoggend kan jy in jou bed sit en koffie drink terwyl jy die sonsopkoms bekyk en die laatmiddag kan jy die sonsak aanskou terwyl jy kosmaak op die gasbraaier. In die aande kan mens soms ook leeus hoor brul van die buurplase af en wildehonde. Jy kan ook perdry as jy sou wou - dit is 'n ekstra bespreking. En dan kan mens rondloop in die landskappe ook. Of jy kan net op die stoep met 'n koffie sit terwyl jy die ongelooflike "view" beskou in stilte.
Me, my husband and our 20 month old daughter really enjoyed our time at Alto Log Cabin. The view is beautiful, the rusks delicious, and the night sounds (lions and wild dogs) special! The owners are lovely people, and very hospitable and accommodating. The accommodation is tidy and more than big enough, and everything works as it should. One would think that the wooden house is cold (especially from the month of May) and although the air conditioner outside was cold at times, we did not get cold inside the house at all. There are also plenty of heaters if you need them. Thank you for sharing this gem with us!

Very cute place, nice view from the balcony, quiet and get a good rest. Can hear the lions roaring and the horse riding was very nice and an adventure to walk between goats and zebras. Annie and Peter are very friendly and helpful! Will definitely go back again.

Alto Log cabin is exactly what we wanted and was everything advertised. After my day at the Rhino & Lion Park it was the perfect overnight stop just behind the Lion Camp. Cabin is well equipped and the gas barbecue on the veranda was a winner. Delicious homemade biscuits, tea, coffee and milk were available. Night sounds of foxes and larks make you think you are hundreds of kilometers from home. We went for a nice walk in the morning and found the horse riders along the way. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay at an affordable price. We have already told our friends.

Fantastic sun and moon risers and sunsets! Absolutely a great place to spend with your partner, reading, painting, drawing, or just playing board games together. Hearing the neighbouring lions roaring and the ever-chatty jackals at night was also very cool.
Now that had been an experience. It was just what we needed. It was my Mother's birthday. It was so quiet and peaceful. Even though we were only there one night, we enjoyed it so much. Silence and the beautiful surroundings. You really feel like you are deep in the woods. And it's so close to the city. Would definitely recommend to anyone who just wants some peace and quiet for a while. One forgets about all the busy life of the city. Absolutely wonderful.

The cabin was such a lovely experience. It was a rainy weekend and we had a wonderful experience throughout. The location is breathtaking, our host was caring and warm.
Peter and Annemarie are brilliant hosts, warm and welcoming and very accommodating. It is wonderful to sit on the deck at night, with space all around you while you listen to the lions roar and the black-backed jackals barking. What a glorious privilege to be able to listen to the wind blowing a cool breeze at night. The cabin is bright, cheerful and even if you are sitting inside it still feels as if you are sitting outside because of all the windows. It is very private location, which is nice when needing a break from people. The outback horse ride was wonderful. While you are riding, you are surrounded by beautiful valleys and hills, with wildlife such as springbuck, blue wildebeest and zebra walking around with you. It is a lovely place with lovely hosts. You will not regret it.

We were very surprised upon our arrival. The place was neat and we were surprised with a bottle of champagne for our wedding anniversary. The delicious rusks with which we were spoiled. We ate everything. The howling of the foxes and the lions' sounds made us feel so much closer to nature as well as our Creator. Trevor came over and we had a good chat. We booked in for one night. We loved the peaceful and quiet.The evening we enjoyed a night cap. We heard the jackal cries all around. The morning we woke with sun coming up over the hills and valleys around us. Silently the hot air balloons rose in the distance. The Lion and Rhino Park's back fence was near us and you could hear the wild dogs' feeding frenzy. I would have loved to stay longer and will return for a longer visit.
We would recommend Alto Log Cabin to anyone looking for tranquillity and peace of mind away from the hustle and bustle of the city with views to dream of. The lion's roar and fox's cry at night only make it so much better.

This is an ideal place if you and your partner want to be completely alone for a while. It was great and was simple with a nice intimate experience. You have a wonderful view and the silence ensures that you can experience the tranquility of nature. Where you forget about the rush on roads and things that always keep you too busy.

It was wonderful to leave behind the busy city life for a few days and exchange it for silence, picturesque views and night sounds from so many different types of animals (foxes and lions).
We were met on the day by Peter who showed us to the cabin, all was very neat, modern and clean. The views from the chalet are awesome, whilst relaxing having a braai at night taking in the sounds and views. We were lucky to here the sounds of the lions and wild dogs at night, when the wind dropped. An extra treat for my daughter was a horse ride later in the day of which she thoroughly enjoyed, later the horses came up to the cabin where we gave them some extra carrots and apples. We also managed to see a jackal and rabbits around the cabin.
It is wonderful to be able to sit outside at 5:00 in the morning with a cup of coffee in hand and watch the sun rise while listening to the lions roaring in the background. Truly unique. Alto Log Cabin is a good choice if you want to switch off from city life.

Alto Log Cabin is definitely worth a visit for either a weekend getaway or just to get away from the mad rush of day-to-day living for couples or for families. Situated on a beautiful farm with a view for miles, listening to the lions roar and watching jackals run down the hill, there was never a dull moment. Plus seeing the horses roam around the cabin on the Sunday morning just added to the weekend. The cabin is well equipped for your every needs, and the hosts are extremely gracious and friendly. We cannot wait for the braai area to be built but the gas braai did the job just as well. We will definitely be back.

Alto Log Cabin has a breathtaking view and is a few meters away from the white lion and wild dog camps situated within the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve. We could hear the lion roars and wild dog twitters in the evenings and throughout the night. There is a lot to do in the area, and after a full day out on Saturday we enjoyed the most peaceful evening. My daughter and wife went for a lovely horse ride with the owner, Annemarie, Sunday morning. This was definitely one of our favorite weekends and a very relaxing experience for my wife's birthday. Thank you so much for having our family in your cabin.
What a pleasant experience, the place is painstakingly tidy and there was fresh tea on the table, coffee and sugar and tea, milk in the fridge and delicious biscuits to enjoy. The owners made us feel like family. Definitely a must vacation for anyone!

Upon arrival we were welcomed by Peter, the owner, who had the cabin open and ready for us. For a quick getaway we were pleasantly surprised at the comfort of the cabin and with the views and the calls of nature. We will be back. If you take your kids, take their bikes as there is a fantastic bike park at Rhino and Lion park for them.

Alto Log Cabin is the perfect getaway from the city. The location is very beautiful and one can drive past the rhino and lion park and look at the animals for free which is an added bonus. Very neat and well maintained, beautiful sunrise from your bed and there is a lot to do in a radius of 20 km.
