All of us as a group would just like to say thank you to Mike and staff our trip was a success.
I was on my own and the studio apartment is huge for just one person, but there are beds for 4 people. Apartment is modern and clean and I could park right outside the door. Next time I will come back for a family reunion and take more apartments for a big group. Hosts were very helpful, gave me a discount as I was on my own and took me shopping as I didn't have a car. You couldn't wish for a nicer place to stay.
As a family with kids, we prefer quiet and safe places. This one met the criteria. It was wonderful to experience the place and the host was top tier. Communicated everything, was very friendly and went the extra mile. Won't hesitate to come back.

Everything was good. Mike was very helpful in whatever we needed. The only problem was the music. If he can say that there will be no music at a certain time, it's understandable. But having no music at all is not right.
The pool water was not hot, and the pool did not look clean.

There was gas geyser but not working. Kids were playing and was told to keep noise level down. They are 4 years old. How do we stop them when playing.

Ambleside is a very good place to visit. It is very quiet and welcoming especially when travelling with the family. I'm willing to come to the place around November 2021.

Toilet smell inside and outside building. No cleaners. Refrigerator not working. Load power insufficient support (backup). Furthermore, the accommodation was great and what was needed was available.

We only had issues with ants and then the shower drain that build up a little dam while you shower, it drain very slow. We were a bit annoyed that we were not informed before hand that the water from the taps are not drinkable. Instead the owner supplied the units with 5l bottled water and you had to go and fetch water when your container is empty. I would suggest that for the price that is paid and seeing that tap water is not drinkable, the resort should have ensured bottled water was delivered on a daily basis. Units are also not cleaned. My recommendation is that for a long stay of 5 days or more the unit get cleaned at least once during your stay. There were a lot of power outages on the 2nd of January. My recommendation would be for the owner to inform the residents as to the reason for the outages and maybe the duration of the power outage. In the studio unit there was a gas geyser that stopped working but the owner did get someone out to attend to it as soon as possible. The owner is a friendly, helpful person. The above is maybe just a few suggestions or comments to assist for future bookings and residents.
If you prefer a retirement village with no hot water, low to no water pressure, sewer smell everytime someone flushes their toilet in the complex, toilets with little to no water, no noise after 8pm, then book here. From the time we checked in this place has been a total nightmare, all rooms were only ready after 3pm, we had over an hour to wait until all rooms could be ready. No water hot, and worse if someone else opens the tap when you are showering, you then have no water. My family and I had cold showers throughout our stay, terrible sewage smells everytime someone flushed the toilet. Little to no TV access, WiFi which only worked for a few minutes then cut off, dirty pool, no hot water in Jacuzzi, taps barely work if someone is in the shower, water leaking all over the complex. Fridges don't work or not powered on, no air conditioning, hardly any water or pressure in the toilets which was a nightmare. To top it off despite all these issues the owner has the audacity to tell us to keep it down at 8pm as his family are trying to sleep. We booked a holiday to relax and unwind with family, this place totally ruined our stay. This is basically a retirement village which doesn't ever keep up with the standards. It's like these rooms don't meet minimum criteria to be called a holiday home. Where there are issues with all essential stuff. We feel we have been robbed with our stay.

It was fantastically neat and felt like we were at our own home. Will definitely use them again.
We were in the big unit. It sleeps 10 and has 3 floors. Only one bathroom with a sink, shower and toilet on the ground floor. Another toilet on the ground floor with a wash basin. It was quite awkward.
I was happy with the whole experience.

We really enjoyed the 3 nights at Ambleside, the studio is clean, tidy and comfortable. We really enjoyed the private garden and porch area. It's the ideal place to stay for a night or 3.
The quality of the furniture, cutlery etc. was not of good quality, the grass was not cut, there is no privacy, all things considered I would not be able to recommend it.
For starters, the stairs are incredibly steep and not at all safe for big or small. Entire premises are not child friendly at all. Jacuzzi was empty and not working most of the time. No Playstation as advertised. Pool was cold, even though the sun was shining. So solar heating does not work there at all. Bedding is old and shabby so we would advise bringing your own bedding. Mike was not friendly or helpful at all. He offered that if we arrived earlier, we could drop off the luggage for now, but when we got there it was a problem and had to make another plan. TV is also impractically mounted right above the bed's headboard. Braai and outdoor facilities are badly neglected and not practical for large groups of people. It's not a cozy private beach at all and once again a photo of Port Shepstone's beach was used on the brochure which makes it very misleading. No sea view and definitely not 35 seconds from the beach. To conclude, only go there if you are 2 old people who want to be extremely quiet and sit in your room all day. Really don't suggest anyone go there and especially not with kids.
It was more than expected. It was perfect.
The owner and his wife are very very pleasant. Friendly and helpful! We had a great time and even our 3 dogs were completely at home and at ease and completely safe! Was a very nice visit with Uncle Mike and Nellie.

The place called Ambleside is not what you expect on arrival but definitely grows on you after a day or two. The house has ample space with a welcoming host Nellie/Mike and the location in relation to the beach is ideal for holiday goers and people who enjoy nature and exercise. I will definitely book a holiday at this place again. As my son would love to see his friend again.
The place is peaceful and beautiful. The sea is a 3 minute walk from the house. It's a private beach. We had fun, we were only disappointed by the weather - it was raining, cold and windy but we still had a great time.
The parking can do with shade for vehicles. The units are very old fashioned and can do with some modern facilities. Bathroom needs a big extractor fan because there are no windows. Dark and stuffy. Pool was clean and water warm.
There were only 2 photos of our unit on the internet but what you can see and the other units make the rooms look pretty neat and semi-luxurious. After we finished paying, we went to look at the unit (North Wing). The main bedroom has no window so there is no ventilation as well as for the bathroom, again no window that can open and that leads through to the second (extra extra small) room. When we asked the owner what he was going to do about the situation, he reckoned we could sleep with the doors open, just after he told us that there had been a break-in 3 weeks ago. I also have 2 small Yorkies that I just couldn't let roam outside unsupervised at night. We were very disappointed, the whole unit is not up to standard, when you turn the taps in the shower you stand with the tap in your hand if it doesn't fall on your toes! The room my mother slept in (it had been her birthday present to go to the sea for the first time in 8 years) was tiny. She has a window in her room that looks through to the bathroom. She also complained that the mattress's "springs" stuck almost all the way through. We have other family in Umtentweni and if they wanted to visit us or have a barbecue, you have to pay extra per person. They also charge you R50 a night per Yorkie. Oh everything was just one big disappointment! They also tell you how close you are to the beach, but they don't really tell you that it's a remote beach where you can't swim!
No oven and equipment a bit limited. Sleeper couches could be upgraded. Lounge furniture is lacking.
Host was friendly and helpful. He helped us with all the information about the area and surroundings.
Nicely centrally located to the Shelley Center and St Michaels Beach, both suitable for families with children. Even Oribi Plaza is a quick 5 minute drive away.
Good location, secure parking, pet friendly and very accommodating towards our puppy. Thank you very much for a lovely stay. We will definitely want to stay there again.

I really enjoyed my stay at Ambleside. It was truly a wonderful experience. The fact that the pool was solar heated made our stay even more exciting - having my 8 month old baby and 10 month old nephew splashing around.
The place was clean and neat, but the BED needs to be changed as you can feel the springs go through you body. The owner has a nice attitude. I like the fact that there is full DStv channels in your rooms, it mad me feel like I was home!
