78 guests' feedbackWhat a beautiful place! Slept wonderfully warm in the cold Free State. Wish we could have stayed a little longer. One night was just too short!
It was a perfect getaway. The accommodation is well furnished and clean and beautiful. The environment is picturesque.
Our stay was something special. The scenery is beautiful. The unit was well planned and very nicely equipped. It's a gem that I would happily recommend. We will definitely go back again. The fireplace was very effective and the view from the unit picturesque!
It was an experience. Peaceful, quiet and private. My teenagers could ride bikes. We went for a walk and enjoyed the beautiful nature!
Great spot to take in the silence and rejuvenate. Lots of hiking opportunities. Good for a quick getaway.
We had a great time. Fireplace was a nice treat!
It was a great place.
We had a great time with the most beautiful scenery and view of the mountains of Lesotho.
We had a fantastic and peaceful stay at Amohela ho Spitskop Country Retreat & Conservancy. We were a family of 6 with 2 dogs and stayed in Mongoose. The unit was neat, spacious, well equipped and private. There are nice walking and cycling routes on the farm and the dogs really enjoyed the open spaces. There is little to no mobile phone reception at the units. The stretch of tarmac road from Marquard (R708) to the farm's turnoff (about 10 km) is full of potholes and then there is about 18 km of dirt road. We really enjoyed the weekend.
Comfortable and well-appointed cottages in a picturesque nature conservancy.
Wonderful units. Very nice people and very approachable. We had a lovely time.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you to our wonderful hosts. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. The cottage was extremely well equipped. So divine to have a fire warming up the entire space. Our only complaint would be that we had no WiFi (MTN) signal from the cottage. There was intermittent signal if you walked to find it. We would definitely recommend this beautiful spot to anyone who wants to reconnect with nature and have some peace and quiet. An exceptional place. We would have liked to stay longer to be able to explore the sur
Beautifully appointed suite that offers loads of privacy and all the amenities including a full kitchen and the most divine bath. There is no shortage of things to do surrounded by beautiful scenery so we found ourselves wanting to stay put and relax without the need to adventure out to surrounding towns for the duration of our stay. Hikes can be taken at leisure at any time of the day and night. The setting is very safe and despite the load shedding measures that are in place, you soon fall into forgetting whether the electricity is on or not — it is that peaceful and quaint! Allen was always on hand to assist with anything that we needed and Jenny was a pleasure to deal with in admin.
We had a very nice rest time on the farm.
Felt safe, hosts were great, mountain climbing a bonus.
Apart from a bit of wind and wetness, it was a quiet weekend for us. The accommodation is well equipped, wardrobes in the rooms would make it perfect.
Jen and Al are the best host you can ask for.
Maybe a bit expensive for what you get.
Their website advertises that you can order breakfast - not true. Their brochure in the house says the unit is serviced daily which includes washing dishes - not true!
Brings you right back down to earth with its beauty and Tranquillity. It restores you completely. Jenny and Allen are gracious and awesome hosts. Thank you so much for an awesome stay. A memorable stay indeed.
Treat yourself! Worth it!
Once again we really enjoyed it. The view is breathtaking and the silence is so peaceful. The beds are comfortable and there is everything you need. We always have a great time cycling and enjoy the hiking trails. Wonderful place!
Peaceful but no internet connection or wifi.
Most gracious kind hosts. Accommodation in discreet good taste. Views forever. Lovely walks.
We loved staying at Amohela ho Spitskop. Jenny and Allen were wonderful hosts. The cottage is very well designed and tastefully decorated. It was peaceful and relaxing with beautiful views. We highly recommend it!
The cottage met our expectations, clean unit, cozy atmosphere, serviced every morning with everything needed for a self-catering unit. Knife (Cook's knife) blunt, otherwise no problems or criticisms.
Very neat and quiet. Looks just like in all the pictures. Great hiking trails.
The accommodation is neat and clean and has everything you need. Here you can look out over the world and find rest for your soul.
The Quail cottage looks exactly like the photos on the website. Wonderful! The full moon rose red-orange and large behind the Malutiberge and the field was so brightly lit that you could almost read a book. It was a wonderful 2 nights and we would definitely recommend it to other travelers looking for some peace and quiet.
If you are looking for silence, the place is good.
Great views from the chalets.
Francolin is a beautiful well equipped place (just bring your own corkscrew!). Large room consisting of kitchen, sitting area, sleeping area and bathroom area with lovely claw foot bath and large shower (toilet is separate). Quiet, no city noise and private. The dusk walk up the hill with ancient stone steps for a beautiful view was lovely. Grilling under the open sky full of stars is a privilege! The house was just bitterly hot (it was February) but we immediately opened everything and by bedtime it had cooled down. Take mosquito repellant with you and enjoy nature!
The view from our unit was incredibly beautiful. The unit was full of little treats like bath salts, candles and matches. Everything was super clean and stylish. Well done!
Very clean, comfortable and spacious. Very private and quiet with beautiful nature.
Very kindly received by Allan and Jennifer. View is breathtakingly beautiful. They might just think of putting dark curtains in the rooms, the sun woke us up at 5 in the morning. Place was neat and had everything needed. I would recommend the place to anyone.
I would recommend Amohela ho Spitskop to anyone. There are several houses that are very well furnished and decorated with taste. There is total privacy and houses are surrounded by exceptional trees. Nature is breathtaking and hiking trails are an experience. We were very sorry that we didn't have more time. Would love to go back again.
Excellent location. Neat and clean.
The hosts were friendly and interesting to talk to. We loved the conservation aspect of the farm, with all the fauna and flora being nurtured. A great hike up Spitskop and a relaxing mountain bike ride in the area, before sitting before the raging fire in our cabin ended the perfect day. The lack of television added to the sense of the area without distracting form the quiet, only interrupted by the odd bird or animal sound. My wife loved the well equipped and tastefully laid out cabin.
See stars.
I always look at photos first and what impressed me about the photos on the site was the lovely outdoor patio with furniture, in front of each room, even in the garden! We stayed in Guinea Fowl but when we arrived there was only a table on the porch in front of the living area. When I inquired about this I was informed that the furniture in the photos was indeed spread around the house, and had been taken out to take the photos. This means that if you want to sit outside in front of your own room you have to move the furniture out first! However, all the furniture was not even in the house, but the hostess did provide it the next day. I mention this for future visitors who, like me, expect to get what you see on the photos of the accommodation.
Very quiet, well equipped cottage off the beaten track. No TV, just a peaceful place away-from-it-all place.
Very neat and peaceful farmhouses with wonderful nature scenes and also stars in the evening. Not too far from nearest towns Clocolan and Ficksburg. Just be careful to take enough food with you as it is self-catering and you have to drive around 10 to 20 kilometers of dirt roads, depending on which direction. However, the dirt roads are in good condition.
Allan was very helpful when we had flat tires on Sunday morning, thank you very much for the help!
I really enjoyed my stay, and slept so well. The bed, bedding and pillows are so soft and comfortable. The man who received us was very friendly and made us feel right at home. Unfortunately, the dirt road to there is quite long and not very nice, not made for a small car like mine. Maybe something to consider for the future, is a small bar fridge in the room, to keep one's food and water cool? And maybe a fan, the room can get quite warm. But I had a really nice stay. Thank you very much.
Tranquil Free State plains do wonders for the busy city life.
The best maintained place I have ever seen, walkways cleanly cut and very clear and the tranquility that was the best and with the best view a guy could ask for.
The place is perfectly located with the most beautiful view of the Lesotho mountains. The fireplace inside the house makes it cozy and warm.
Lekker gebly, mooi area. Vriendelike mense. Sal dit aanbeveel vir enige iemand wat 'n reis neem deur die Oos-Vrystaat.
Very friendly owners, will visit this special place again.
Neat and stylish furniture and decor. Good place to rest in peace.
The silence and tranquility of the farm was what we needed. Every sunrise and sunset picture beautiful. The friendliness of the farm people made us feel welcome and loved. The fireplace in the evening was cozy and warm. We will definitely visit there again.
The quail cottage was beautifully decorated and has amazing views of the surrounding landscape. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Pretty area and rustic atmosphere.
An incredible experience. Exactly what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.
An incredible experience from the Eastern Free State. The houses were very neat and clean. Cottages are far enough apart so we had nice privacy. The surroundings are breathtaking and incredible views of the Malutis. No TV and very little cell phone reception but that's exactly why we chose the place. Will go back again for sure. Jenny and Allan had also been very friendly and hospitable.
It is very nice neat and clean. The environment is quiet and peaceful. It's perfect for a break from the normal! The people are also very friendly and pleasant!
If anyone wants to know how a guesthouse should be run, go here. We travel a lot and stay in many guesthouses - Allen and Jennifer's system works like a clock. Everything works. Everything is in place, even when Allen arrives in his bakkie to take you to your place. We stayed in Porcupine Cottage. Lovely. King size bed with views of the mountains and hills from every room. And one can actually sit on the comfortable living room furniture and deck chairs, and not on pull-out couches or old patio furniture. We sat on the veranda until dark. It's quiet until you hear the sounds of the owls later. Keep it up Jennifer and Allen - you have it under your thumb! A big tick in our favourites box! N.S .: The dirt road may be a bit rough, but okay even for a flat car. Remember, it's a farm road and leads to tranquillity. Just blow your tires down to 1.5 bar and drive slowly. Call beforehand and ask Allen which is the best road from your area, because there are 3 options. We were stupid and drove unnecessarily far.
We arrived to find the accommodation to be very spacious, clean and stocked with all the amenities one would need for self catering. The layout of the units are very well thought out and make for a very comfortable stay and each room allows one to enjoy the wonderful views. Our evening walks rewarded us with amazing photos of distant rain storms, eagles and owls and a pair of jackals in the mountain. A stroll around the mountain and up the guided path reveals endless views of the surrounding area. If you love nature and the peace and quiet then you will enjoy the hospitality of Amohela ho Spitskop Country Retreat & Conservancy's passionate owners and their wonderful retreat.
The room was clean and beautiful. The farm is stunning and the owners made me feel so welcome. Can't wait to go back.
The cottages are very neat and fully equipped, here and there there may be small parts where there could be more focus on cleaning (light switches, shower) and then the sofas were a bit dirty, but it was mostly clean. The roads are also just bad and I wouldn't recommend tackling it with a car (4x4 is ideal). It is ideal if you want to get away from city life (the signal is also bad), which is not a negative thing, the most beautiful view of the Maluti mountains. The cottage has a beautiful fireplace that creates a lovely atmosphere and helps with the cold of the Eastern Free State. I would definitely recommend Amohela and would stay there again if I ever get the chance again.
We had been on a "road trip". We had the best time relaxing at home with a nice warm fireplace. Beautiful view. We definitely want to go again. The owners are very friendly and made us feel welcome.
The house is fantastic and neat and clean and it's absolutely in the middle of nowhere. There is also no cell phone signal all the time, so don't think anyone can get in touch with you. The signal drops out as in "No Service". The dirt road is unbelievably bad and if you don't drive a big pickup, you shouldn't try it. Your car is going to crash and you're going to have flat tires. If you are a mosquito lover, this is the place to go to catch them. There are thousands. Maybe there are also friends of the pigeons who want to catch them for pets, because they ring all night long on the house's tin roof. Sounds like war.
The place was dirty - They had to use our time to clean properly. We would not recommend them - terrible.
Fantastic scenery. Neat units and friendly hostess / staff.
Value for money. Perfect getaway to find your soul again. Quiet time.
What a fantastic place. View, the quietness overwhelms you so that your soul can find peace. Just fantastic. The starry sky at night makes you feel like a child in a fairy tale. If you're looking for soul refreshment, this is the place to be.
It is a beautiful place with unbelievable decor and a homey atmosphere! One day's stay was too short and I would definitely go there again. EXCELLENT!
Excellent escape from city life and all the rush to every day responsibilities. Neat, clean, quiet and if you need a rest this place is ideal. Me and my family had the opportunity to pay 100% attention to each other and enjoy our time together.
We rested wonderfully and looked at the stars in silence every night. The sleeping units are beautiful and of the highest standard. Jenny and Allen's hospitality makes the stay so much more enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Nice view, spacious rooms.
If you want to go for a long drive, experience fresh air and open plains, this is the place to go. No frills with great hospitality!
We will definitely stay here again. The house was very neat and well-equipped. Jenny went out of her way to answer our questions and to put us in the correct house.
We never experienced this level of comfort before, absolutely everything you need for a getaway is provided in the unit. Hotel standard. Beautiful furniture and soft down linen. Even though the area is peaceful and beautiful it is not close to any beautiful towns. But if you're looking for luxury, look no further.
Wonderful views of the Malutiberge with a beautiful house. Hosts are really friendly and accommodating. The swimming pool is probably one of the most enjoyable of my entire life.
It was nice to breathe in the fresh air. The place was clean and neat on arrival. The house has everything you expect from a self-catering unit. We were welcomed by the owner and he was nice enough to show us the cycling and hiking routes around the property. The house unfortunately fronts east, so the sun gets you out of bed quite early and it's better to go for drives during the hottest times of the day. As soon as night falls, it is absolutely stunning to look at the stars while you socialize by the boma. It would be great to have a few suggestions on activities in the house. Maybe 4x4 routes? Restaurants? Seeing as I have children, maybe a farm with animals to keep the young ones entertained. Apart from that I will definitely recommend it.
Great place to stay. The cottage is well thought out so that every room allows you to appreciate the amazing views. The fireplace in the lounge was out of this world on the chilly nights when we could no longer sit outside on the patio marveling at the stars. The beds and the linen were very comfy and good quality. I loved that the cottage was serviced daily. Will book again.
Absolute value for money. Will definitely go back again!
