Some of the rooms have their own bathrooms, while the rest make use of shared ablution facilities. All bathrooms are fitted with showers, washbasins and toilets. Guests also have full access to communal kitchens where they can prepare their own meals if they wish.
Guests have full access to their on-site facilities such as communal braai areas, a swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a bar, a restaurant, a pool table, a craft shop, a laundry service as well as vending machines.
Activities in the area include rock climbing, abseiling, summiting mountains, visiting historical battlefields, exploring Lesotho or wandering down to the dams and river to see how many birds and mammals you can spot.

12 guests' feedbackAmhitheatre Backpackers Lodge has a beautiful view of the Drakensberg. The receptionist was very inviting and friendly upon our arrival. The kitchen was spotless and dishcloths pure white. The lady who keeps it so neat and clean definitely deserves a Bells. We did not feel unsafe for one moment. Children went for a walk, played table tennis and sauna. Our two dogs ran around the world on the green grass. Nice!
The Backpackers Lodge's interior decoration is very creative. Around every corner there is something interesting to see. It is located in a beautiful, peaceful environment. However, the road to the lodge is not pleasant with the road falling away in a few places. On arrival we were warned that the lounge area/bar can get noisy especially on weekends, but that we are welcome to tell them if it bothers them and they will move us to another room. The lodge is very accommodating and really went out of their way to make our weekend as pleasant as possible.
Real genuine backpackers. Everything was as I expected. Had fun sitting around the fire and chatting with Americans, Swedes, Dutch and Brits.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The accommodation was adequate.
We stayed here before and after walking into Amphitheater Backpackers Lodge and it was all we needed. Rooms neat and clean, nice braai facilities by the pool.
The place is no longer in the condition as in the photos. Food is very expensive, but it was very tasty.
Not so bad and welcoming.
I booked the place through the website. A very last minute change of plan happened and my mother then came along. I tried to get hold of the website, but there was something wrong with our mobile networks. I contact the place myself, explain everything and the woman says we have to pay them the difference. We arrive at the place no gates or fences. The people are not very friendly at the reception, I said that I have to pay extra for my mother and they then asked for a ridiculous fee and did not even give us a bigger room with an extra bed. Their excuse was that the fault lay with the website with their prices. Actually what they are saying is that the website asked us too little. We then get to our unit, the plants from outside are growing into the roof. The door cannot be locked from the inside. The bathroom door cannot close. The place was also not properly cleaned. I would not recommend the place. Not value for money at all and they treat their customers unfairly.

Great atmosphere and quiet enough to keep kids entertained. Perfect for Durban and Pretoria. Found staff accommodating but not really welcoming. Had no introduction to facilities like spa or sauna. Relaxed atmosphere but each to his own.
Our stay at Amphitheater backpackers was unfortunately the low point of our 2 week family holiday. As a family we have already stayed with a few backpackers and were prepared for a bit more basic accommodation and e.g. noisier than most of our other accommodation places. However, we are now convinced that backpackers accommodation may only work for us for 1 night's quick sleepover, but certainly not for 3 days of family visits.
