We were warmly received by the hostess and we were pleasantly surprised with the comfort of the spacious unit in which we spent the night. The kitchen contains everything needed for self-catering. Everything was beautifully clean and polished. Crisp linen and towels. Comfortable double bed mattress. Standing fans to relieve the heat. We had a delicious barbecue and rested well after a long day on the road.

Neat, modern and spacious in an authentic Karoo style. We will definitely stay again for longer. Our unit had an additional pull out couch/bed. My wife enjoyed the outdoor seating. There are braai facilities and even a cooling "swimming pool", should the need exist. A real gem.

This is the most adorable, spacious and comfortable units. Great care was taken with the decorations and the provisions in these units. We only stayed overnight but would love to go back and stay longer. The host was very friendly and helpful with recommending places to eat and things to do.

Very neat and well equipped accommodation with cute furniture. Although the owners were away, the neighbour, Tanja, received us and carried us on her hands.
The units are very well designed and placed on the premises in such a way that all the customers can park close to their units, and it is also pet friendly. (On this occasion I traveled without a pet but on a previous occasion I was there with my puppy and can say from experience that it works very well with a pet). It was quite cold in New Bethesda and the owner turned on the wall heaters in the unit and recommended that they be left on all the time to make the unit nice and cozy.
Have stayed there before and again it was very nice. Neat, clean and everything works, but it was just bitterly hot at the time of year, but at least the swimming pool cooled us down.
We were given a room with no shower. Very disappointing. I booked in July 2022 and feel we were given the last room available. The attitude of the owners was 'Sorry, we are full'. A most disappointing experience.
Even with the flood that passed through the town the days before we arrived, they provided us with a perfect cottage, and made plans to provide us with water. Peaceful overnight stop, where even my little dog could stay safe while we walked to dinner at one of the nice restaurants.
My dog is travelling with me! You need to let owners know when visiting with a dog! Just bring your dog's bedding with you! I just love the way the owners have divided each unit for privacy and gates that can be closed when staying over with a dog! Within walking distance from all the restaurants and owl house! My favourite little town in the Eastern Cape is Nieu Bethesda and just love this guest house!

Two glorious days in New Bethesda. Hidden gem.
New Bethesda is one of my favorite towns in the country and I always try to sleep over there. And The Cow Jumped Over The Moon... is very well equipped with all possible amenities and offers a pleasant and peaceful stay. I can confidently recommend the accommodation.
Our apartment was spacious and comfortable with everything you need. We will stay there again when there is an opportunity. Highly recommended!
We had such a lovely stay with Annette and Casper at The Cow! They were more than accommodating with any special requests we had and went out of their way to make sure we knew of the best places to visit in town and great spots to get vegan cuisine! In fact, they were phoning the different restaurant owners to find out the options and help us get fed. Turns out, many places in Nieu Bethesda offer outstanding, fresh and delicious vegan cuisine. We ate at and we absolutely loved The Tower and The Bethesda but Annette can give you more recommendations for sure. The rooms are well-appointed with everything you might need for a short holiday in the self-catering facility. The bed is very comfortable - we didn't want to get up! And the decor is just adorable - cow theme runs throughout. We didn't get to use the pool but looks like it's perfect for a nice, refreshing dip in the warmer months. Such amazing, warm, welcoming and friendly people - we would 100% stay here again. Highly recommend.

I was dry with the reservation and the hostess corrected it without any effort. A good place to sleep with a nice garden and swimming pool is a plus in the Karoo.

Our hostess was very accommodating. We has a family tragedy on the morning of 31 Dec 2020. We had to leave to attend to the family emergency. We did have one enjoyable night. The accommodation was well kitted out and we were able to have a good supper. We hope to be back one day to explore Nieu Bethesda some more.

This option in the quieter part of Nieu-Bethesda is ideal because I was traveling with 2 dogs. One of the plus points of this part of Nieu-Bethesda is that traffic is a lot less, more quiet, and there's basically no dust. Felt like my home, also with all of the kitchen tools and facilities available.
You can relax here. Beautiful place that feels like home.

It was good value for money to stay at And the Cow Jumped Over The Moon... The hostess called to confirm our arrival time and (thankfully) reminded me again that there is no fuel or ATMs in town. We were able to walk to the restaurant in the evening, with the good advice to take a flashlight with you for the return as there are no street lights. It's pitch black. It was a wonderful experience to be able to walk in the quiet village and feel completely safe.

We slept very well, but the double bed might be a bit small for two people. The shower is very spacious but urgently needs a new shower head. It can also be strongly considered to put a shower door in - the shower curtain does not work well. There were delicious biscuits and coffee that can be enjoyed on the private veranda. Lovely quiet room and would recommend.
The manager/owner was out of town (it can't be out of town) but the keys were available and the unit had everything we needed. Very neat, clean and comfortable. The plan was to braai there but we then went to eat in one of the restaurants in the village (also excellent) but all the necessities to be able to braai were also available. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you.

We spent 5 awesome days in Nieu Bethesda and our stay at "And The Cow Jumped Over the Moon" was very comfy. The spacious cottage with outside braai and fenced, grassed area for our English bulldog is highly recommended. The heaters and electric blankets came in very handy for the freezing winter nights and the location, walking-distance from the Owl House and a few street cafes was unbeatable. The place has a quiet, farm atmosphere and the cottage was fully equipped and clean when we arrived. Enough hot water, stove, little oven, fridge and large bathroom. The folks are friendly and the service is prompt. Parking on the premises behind little gate. We will visit again!

We were received very kindly, and since it was a Sunday and we traveled by motorbike, we didn't have food, but the hostess quickly stepped in and arranged for us to eat somewhere. The unit is beautiful with everything you need and even its own braai area. It was a wonderful experience!

Only downside is that it is located a bit further from the central business centre. So at night when we, as friends who were there for a wedding, had to return home, it's just that little bit too far to walk back to your accommodation alone. But overall VERY SATISFIED!!!

I booked the wrong week and realized my mistake when I reached the guest house. The owner went out of her way to accommodate our family and this is greatly appreciated. The area is quiet and is definitely recommended for someone who just wants to get away and refresh your soul.
And the Cow Jumped over the Moon was a lovely venue near the edge of town. Our host was friendly and welcoming, as well as very informative on what to see and where to go in town. The accommodation was spacious for the price, with a large shower as well as a small fridge, kettle etc. Being dog-friendly was essential and our little girl was welcomed, even though she was in a bit of a bad mood from the long drive. All in all, we were very happy with our choice.
The facilities in this self-catering unit is very good. The location is wonderful. Was really relaxing and good for the soul. The peaceful evening walks in the dirt road just added to the peacefulness of the accommodation.
We really enjoyed it at this place! The owners are friendly and even their dog, Zola, took a dip in the pool with us. The accommodation is on the opposite side of town from the Uilhuis, but because it is so small, we could easily walk there. The rooms are very clean and tidy and they perfectly capture the antiquity as well as the modern feel of the village. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Five star accommodation in a quiet and peaceful environment.
From the reception to the sleep - everything excellent! I haven't seen such cleanliness in a long time and everything was catered for - even barbecue spices if you forgot yours. The spacious kitchen/lounge area was also special not to mention the unique swimming pool in 38 degrees Celsius! The location (2 blocks from the town center) was great! Seven minutes' walk to everything, with noise and merriment, but back at the cottage, the tranquility itself! What more can one ask for?

We have stayed in New Bethesda a couple of times. This is the best place we have ever been. Can fully recommend it. Quiet, beautiful, neat.
Overnight stay only, we were pleasantly surprised with the standard of the room, the comfortable bed and cleanliness.. We had our small dog with us and were given a small enclosed garden for her, which was fantastic! The owner Annette was accommodating and helpful. The bed was comfortable - linen clean and spotless. No extras such as shampoo, hairdryer, etc, but we definitely got value for money and were pleasantly surprised. We will go back, especially when travelling with our pet.

So safe, convenient and comfortable that we just (by mistake) slept with the key to the unit on the outside of the door. Casper and Annette kindly waited for us and even let us sleep in a 4-sleeper. Everything was exceptionally neat and put together with a good eye. We could end our week peacefully there.
The Cowshed was a lovely warm oasis in the August cold. The welcome was friendly, the accommodation crisp and the location just right! One night is too short - go for at least 2...at least.
The decor was beautiful - very friendly people. I really enjoyed the village.
Will definitely stay there again. LekkeSlaap's service is excellent.

We stayed one night at The Cow Jumped in New Bethesda in June 2013. It was nice and pleasant. It was clean, tidy and there was hot water. (This is important in the month of June in the Karoo). The host, Casper, and his wife were very helpful and friendly. We recommend the Cow Jumped.
The rooms were pleasant and clean. We could make food for ourselves. There is not a view from every room. Casper and Annette were incredibly helpful and friendly!
