The lodge was formerly a single house that has been tastefully divided into 3 independent and private guest house units.
Guests have access to braai facilities and a communal splash pool.
The Gariep Dam Village is situated almost halfway between Cape Town and Johannesburg, and is only a couple of minutes away from the main N1 Highway, 44 kilometers north of Colesberg. The Karoo is truly a unique and beautiful place, with very little light pollution.
Please note that there is no direct view of the Gariep Dam from the premises and that the units are constructed from pre-fabricated material.

151 guests' feedbackThank you very much for your hospitality.
We were kindly received by the manager. The place is clean and tidy, nice and spacious, and there is room for our dog. Unfortunately there was only hot water for one person, after that no hot water came out. Fortunately, it was very warm, and we were able to shower in cold water. There is secure parking behind locked gates. The walls are thin, but still we slept well.
A little more coffee and milk would be nice, but otherwise satisfactory.
It was a pleasant stay with value for money. I would definitely stay there again.
Very nice, quiet, friendly and safe.
Very comfortable, nice and clean, enough space and just right for a sleepover to rest well for the next stretch.
It is very well appointed. It is very neat and clean. Lovely place to stay overnight. We will definitely stay there again.
We had a wonderful stay. Also had an older person in a wheelchair there. Near the Gariep Dam. It was so peaceful. Friendly host.
Place is well appointed with everything we need. We had a nice stay with 2 separate rooms. Was impressed with safety, tranquility and quiet.
Was very neat and exceeded my expectations.
Excellent - even upgraded from single beds to a double bed and a single bed. Very quiet and clean. The only problem was an electricity trip.
We had a nice stay. Would only recommend looking into the geyser and would like hot water when showering.
A few observations. We were placed in unit Riedier, not Albatros which we were booked for. Bathroom was unusually hot as there is no window or ventilation fan to ventilate. Extremely small closet in bedroom with no shelves, no room for two adults' clothes. No curtain in front of the kitchen's wooden glass door, privacy is compromised. Due to poor insulation in the wooden wall that is directly next door between Riedier and Ting Tinkie, all conversations and sounds of guests next door are easily heard. Kitchen is spacious and comfortable. Would recommend staying here depending on people's needs.
Very nice stay with a small swimming pool for cooling off.
Very comfortable stay.
By ten o'clock at night the people opposite were having a noisy party, dancing and shouting, and we could not sleep. I let the hostess know, and she fixed the problem right away. We slept great afterwards and never felt unsafe. Everything we needed was in "Sugar Bekki". The lovely showers were a great treat.
Place is clean and tidy. Good for an overnight stop. A mat in the bathroom would have been good.
We had a great stay, it was clean and tidy. We were received very kindly. We just wish there was more provision for load shedding. It's great that there is a gas stove and kettle, just a shame there was nothing to light it with. Rechargeable light bulbs or two or a light bulb would have helped too.
See stars.
The place was relatively clean, but don't believe the pictures you see. We expected some double beds, but got 6 singles, which was fine because we were only staying one night. There is black mold on the roof in the one bathroom and in the passage. The outside furniture was dirty, and the wooden structure is falling apart. There seem to be a lot of different houses, so be careful which one you get. I assume at least one of them might look like the pictures, but the one we got definitely didn't.
No DStv. Shower not working.
Sub-standard place in a neglected yard.
Not a great location. Pool was dirty. Outdoor wooden seating in poor condition.
Host was friendly. Average stay, no privacy. You can hear every word spoken next door, but the location is a big no-no.
The advertisement of the accommodation is misleading. Doesn't look at all like in the photos. Totally overpriced for what you get. Should be half the price. I will never stay there again in my life. The houses in the street look awful and it made me feel unsafe. The agent was unprofessional, very rushed and just wanted to get away (probably afraid we would start complaining). Also wearing a dirty shirt. I was dropped off cleanly at Gariep.
This was a horrible experience. There was no hot water. There was physically no water coming out of the taps. It also doesn't look like the photos at all. No garden or plants, the ground is raked and uneven. The very worst are the illegal residents (as per the owner) across the street. They made noise all night, broke bottles and went crazy. We were a group of 3 families and felt very unsafe.
We and our dog children had a wonderful rest in a clean and tidy place. Thank you for kind service.
Drikus received us with all the friendliness, the place is incredibly safe. Beds have electric blankets and more than one needs.
It's so nice to come to such a neat place after a long day on the road. Everything very neatly laid out and can just relax a bit.
Very peaceful and cozy. Owners are very friendly and welcoming. The house was so nice, clean, tidy and very comfortable. We slept very well.
We got there very late, Drikus was there to receive us, everything was very clear, It was almost "loadsheading," he soon opened so we could buy another boiler. The rooms are spacious and provided everything we needed. After a good night's rest we were on the road again early. These units are recommended for any overnight stay or even longer time.
Enjoyed our stay, so did our dogs.
We really enjoyed our stay and were surprised to find aircon and fans inside the rooms. It has everything you need for an overnight stay.
The service was exceptional. When my arrangements changed unexpectedly, the staff helped me move my reservation a day earlier. Their kindness and willingness to help was remarkable. I really appreciate it and it made my stay experience even more pleasant. I would definitely recommend this lodge to anyone looking for an animal friendly and customer oriented destination.
The only problem I had at all is the water pressure. Shower is either hot or cold water which was not very pleasant.
Drikus and Liesl are very pleasant owners and very helpful! Loerie unit is very private and very tidy. Could also enjoy a great night's rest with air conditioning and fans. The sink faucet is a bit uncomfortable and spills a lot of water on the table top - for use or to wash dishes. Our girl, Meisie, also really enjoyed having a little garden with grass. Will definitely stay there again!
Nice overnight accommodation.
It was sufficient for one night's sleepover.
Situated in Gariep residential area it is not much to look at from outside. But inside it was very clean, very comfortable and had all the facilities you require for an overnight stay.
The Loerie unit is very private and definitely animal friendly with its own garden. The unit was beautifully clean, tidy and very well equipped. My reception was very friendly and helpful. Can definitely recommend the place.
I would change the 2 single beds with one double bed.
See above for my description.
We were kindly received in the rain. Everything you need is there.
Was a very nice stop-over. Everything neat and tidy and greeted very friendly.
We stayed overnight for one night. The place was neat and tidy and had the basic essentials, as well as an air conditioner as it was very warm in Gariep Dam. No Wi-Fi or DStv, but this was ok as we arrived late and were tired anyway. The facility has secured parking. For the amount we paid, it was value for money staying there. Drikus, our host, was very friendly and helpful.
Units are not soundproof.
Host very helpful. And I will stay at Angela's again.
Photos need to be updated and there is no wifi.
Very neat and friendly reception.
The hosts were incredible, friendly, and helpful. Nice touches like branded soaps and water were appreciated. The overnight stay was all we needed, and the accommodation was very clean. Sadly, the pictures make it look a lot better than it really is, and the price paid was not worth the quality of accommodation. The WiFi did not work and there was no hot water. However, there were no major complaints.
Nothing fancy, but perfect for a one night sleepover.
See stars.
It meets the requirements for an overnight stop. Host was very helpful with rectifying the problem we experienced.
Everything looks neat and clean on the surface. However, there is room for improvement, e.g. the windows and shower door track. There was no hot water - solar geyser was apparently not connected to electricity and it was mostly cloudy during the day. The owner assured us that it was safe, but the motion-activated light went on intermittently throughout the night, causing us to sleep restlessly.
Bathroom room includes toilet without a door and any ventilation. No ventilation in unit, so no windows that open to the outside. Very nice and clean, but not my "cup of tea". Would only recommend if no other accommodation available.
Unit is nice and private with it's own little garden. Well suited for pets.
Arrived in 40 degree heat but there was a power problem so no air conditioner. Also no water as water supply was via a pressure pump. Load shadding from later in the day took power away again. Owner was present and concerned but could do very little. Went for a meal locally at de Stijl hotel. Meal was poorly prepared and management showed little interst. Will give Gariep a miss in future.
LekkaSlaap should be more thourough in which venues are allowed to register. After this experience we physically checked on our accomodation in Colesburg for our return journey.
Advertisement is misleading and nothing was there, on arrival no hot water, no barbecue. Broken tiles that hurt me. Not good at all.
Location and atmosphere ️were very nice. Friendly owner.
Hospitable reception. Private, safe, well equipped and tidy unit. Highly recommended.
The house was beautifully laid out, we had a great time staying there. The owner is also very friendly and puts in a lot of effort. I would recommend it for sure.
All we can say is you are the best.
We were given a very nice unit, only problem and not your fault was the load shedding at 20:00 to 22:30 and again at 04:00- so we left at 4 am lucky we had already packed the car.
Clean, only the best.
Nice units and very well raised.
Needs a facelift and a bathroom door. Needs a gas cooker for loadshedding, several pictures listed on the website were misleading. The photos of the room were accurate. The plus side is its pet friendly, reasonable value for money and private.
Ideal overnight stop between the Cape and Gauteng.
A good halfway stop with a delicious meal at the hotel.
The toilet roll holder and towel rail at the sink were loose. Made it uncomfortable because the toilet roll kept falling off.
We arrived later than expected and the reception was very welcoming and though we were the only persons staying at the lodge we felt safe. Parking was also secure behind locked gates. Everything was in order for an overnight or longer stay even during load shedding.
Owner upgraded us to other unit at no extra cost. (Something to do with solar power at booked unit). Comfortable for overnight stay.
Kitchen sink is a nightmare, height of mirror in bathroom for 6 foot giants, an absorbent mat at entrance will keep tiles clean during rain showers. Outside area (cement) soapy when wet, (beware of falling), would like to open sliding door to bedroom (no key). A table in the kitchen (instead of a stove) would have helped - scarce work surface! But bedding and mattress, towels everything 100%.
Excellent reception even after late arrival. Ideal for sleepovers.
We were accommodated with a last minute booking and grateful for it. Our dog was welcome. Very hospitably received by the management. Water, ice, coffee and tea facilities are available. Think the price is a bit high for the amenities available.
De Stijl is a must for a drink and view of the Gariep. Rustiq Pub & Grill's food is excellent. And they deliver!
Accommodation should be cheaper for what you get.
Reception had been very effective and professional. Unfortunately the bathroom was not cleaned very well. The shower also has no curtains, so could not be used without wetting the entire floor.
The lodge is located in an area that feels unsafe (doesn't match their Google maps location) and provides very basic accommodation. The customer service provided is great, but the accommodation itself is lacking.
Tiny shower, very weak water pressure and no tray for soap in the shower. Insufficient TV channels.
Pillows very poor quality and towels are already thin from all the use, one of the towels even had holes in it. The table doesn't look good in the photo, but is quite limp and the top in the kitchen has burn marks and is broken in places. Only about thirty percent of the holes in the shower head work. One can get much better accommodation in the area for the same price and even less.
I do not think it is value for money given the location and absence of backup electricity. The photographs are accurate but show only the interiors.
We felt too close to neighbours and parking a bit tight.
Not really space for Venter trailer, but managed. Concern is safety (trailer with bikes on it). Unit smelled like cigarette smoke. Not all kitchen utensils. No matches, yet there is a lantern with oil. Shower head needs replacement.
Firstly, it's called Angel's Lodge and not Angela's Lodge as per the website. Then there was limited security. Our cars were protected by a measly little padlock on a gate. The aircon did not work, probably why there was a fan to use. The toilet had no door, so there was no privacy. The toilet was an old damaged rubbish plastic unit that ran all night. The shower was in the bedroom and the door terribly warped. So, when one showered the water ran out onto the furniture and bed. The roof was cracked and broken. The old door to secure us was a rusted glass door that didn't lock properly. The bedding was stained. The sheets were stained with blood and the pillows and pillowcases with sweat. There were stickers from purchased clothing stuck on the cupboard doors, proof that the place had not been properly cleaned. The curtains were all different and falling off the rails which were falling out of the walls too. When loadshedding happened there was no water either as the pump for the borehole didn't work. The fridge was leaking water and this formed a puddle where the only multiplug to use for charging was lying in. A total hazard. It is disgusting that the owner thinks that they can charge what they did for this place when if you drive a little further up the road you can stay in a place that is compliant and safe. It's a pity that we booked too late. A very disappointing stay, we left the next morning at 4 am as we couldn't sleep. Awful experience.
Customer service was OK but even though I said exactly what time we would be there hours ahead of time and again 14 min before we arrived we had to wait for someone to check us in, the one guest parked wrong and it was ' a struggle to cut and push our trailer down the street. The location of the accommodation, you drive through parts of Gariep that make you feel unsafe. The houses on the other side of the street look like they are occupied by squatters. It's close to the restraurant, but again not roads through the best parts of Gariep. I did not feel safe in the unit. The unit was not clean, the bedside drawers had empty cans in them and one drawer had some other items in it that made me cringe. The shower is so difficult to get a constant temperature that it is almost impossible to shower. The water is either blazing hot, or ice cold or just gone. The beds weren't terribly comfortable either, but I've slept on worse beds. Just a shame the "aircon" pointed to the door and couldn't be turned to point to the beds and it was quite a hot night.
The place is old fashioned inside, bathroom tiles old and doesn't look clean. The braai place is untidy and in a narrow alley, with no view outside. Grill is dirty and rusted. The environment was also not favorable to live in. Small gate next to big gate could not close.
First impression that gets of the place is very poor. 2 old broken black leather chairs by the front door. The grill is so dirty, has never been washed. The shower floor is full of tacks, you don't even want to shower there. The boiler is so thick with lime. A window or 2 could have been opened before guests arrived. The place had a musty smell. The bathroom mats are used up. No value for your money to stay there. The pool is a huge disappointment. Appears large in photos but is tiny. As soon as you or your neighbors turn on the hot taps, the pipes in the roof make noise all the time.
Place was dirty and yuck, the pictures are very deceiving, not value at all for money at all and I paid a lot to stay one night, was horrible.
Friendly reception. Value for money.
Baie lekker gewees, baie dankie.
Location ideal, and the perfect place to stay.
Met by the manager who directed me to the establishment and also handed over keys and explained it all to me. A very comfortable stay.
For two it is ideal, close to the shop and filling station and the main attraction, the dam itself.
Neat and safe environment.
Nice place to spend the night. During loadshedding we had light. The unit has lamps that use batteries. Very convenient.
None of the plates, cups or glasses in the kitchen cupboard match. The sink in the kitchen is power, when you turn on the tap, half of the water runs out of the sink and drips on the ground. One bath towel had a huge hole in it. There was mold between the tiles in the shower. There is no way to set the shower so that one does not either burn or get cold. The rate of R800 per night is definitely not value for money.
Black mould in the bathrooms and on the lounge roof. Furnishings are hodge podge and uncomfortable. Electricity went out in the early mornings and did not come back on before we left. Subdivision of the property done with paper thin walls and offers little privacy.
Other places that are better located and have a view over the dam had the same prices as Angela's which has neither.
Nice place, just a pity no WiFi and TV only has limited channels.
The unit does not have a lot of natural lighting. The internal lights are dim and there's not much airflow through the unit. The windows are sealed shut with screws - for security purposes I assume. It was raining on the day we arrived. The pathway between the carport and the unit had pools of water which needed to be negotiated. The geyser and water system very noisy when the used by nextdoor unit. Overall not a nice feel.
Poor value for money. Wasn't even booked into the place for what we paid! Would not recommend at all!
Reception was quick and very friendly. Electric blankes were a bonus.
There is an uncle - short, round, gray hair who looks after the back room. He stays there and doesn't come out.
Had a lovely and friendly reception.
Very friendly welcome, very clean and homely, rooms were nice and cool on our arrival. Location is quiet and really lets you kick off your shoes. Nice and private with a cooling pool. Would I recommend it, for sure. Thank you for a carefree, safe night's rest.
Great visit, except the solar water is not very hot.
Neat and clean. Everything needed for a comfortable overnight stay.
Very nice bed to sleep on, really appreciated the heater and warm blanket. Everything was nice and clean and the kitchen facilities were adequate. The local residents' house moles were disturbing and did not feel safe as a result.
Good customer service and an okay stay. We feel that the linen is aged a little, the couches aren't in a good condition, and the noisiness at night from the next door rooms due to the only separation being drywall, caused some discomfort. The solar geysers are very noisy when the hot water taps are opened by any of the rooms. Otherwise we enjoyed our nights' stay and appreciated the aircon in each of the rooms.
Good facilities.
Not fully equipped for 4 guests. Furniture in living room shabby and does not create a good image. Parking nightmare with stroller. No tongs. Water pipes make a terrible noise and all guests are awake when hot water is turned on.
Trash and ashtray not emptied. Dilapidated furniture in living room. Poor layout of the unit. Lots of old mats in the bathroom. Shower was not clean. Lots of old photos used on the site.
Will recommend to friends and family.
We felt very comfortable and at home in the Albatros unit of Angela's Lodge. It's very conveniently located and has all the facilities I needed. We were received kindly and soon felt at home.
Johan is a great host and walks the extra mile for his guests. Will go back.
Reception staff are top notch in terms of service. Tintinkie is a lovely one and a half bedroom unit with a spacious kitchen, dining room and lounge. Secure parking. Very neat. Trust me it's value for your money.
It was truly pleasant and Johan is very friendly. The unit has everything you need and is also safe.
I had a great time at Angela's Lodge, it was clean, welcoming and easy to find.
Good place for a casual night's rest.
Very friendly reception and prompt service from Johan to take us to the place. Very clean, comfortable room. The only disappointment was the hot shower in the evening. The cold water almost didn't run when the taps were opened and the hot water that after a minute or so (as explained by Johan and notes on the wall) squirts boiling from the tap, makes it practically impossible to shower water control heat. After we were burned, so to speak, we only washed from the sink that evening.
Clean, tidy and comfortable. Quick service. The work surface for cooking is a little neat, but otherwise very cute.
Lovely, peaceful environment. Thank you very much.
See stars.
Security very poor, no burglar bars in front of windows at the front which means you can't open a bedroom window. Door locks at bathroom and room do not work. Front sliding gate is open. No security. Bathroom very poor with no storage space or towel rails.
Very comfortable overnight accommodation. The rooms were very neat and well equipped. We booked all 3 rooms, but stayed in 2 only. We were 4 adults, 1 teen and 2 children under 13. The host was very pleasant and accommodating. We arrived quite late in Gariep. Definite recommendation.
Very clean unit. Floors polished. Calm atmosphere. Friendly reception. Secure parking. Nice bed to sleep on.
Accommodation was as advertised. No nasty surprises.
Accommodation is only good value if occupied during half price promotion.
We had a great stay and appreciated the pool because it was warm! We were received kindly and our place was clean and tidy. Will definitely stay there again!
The shower was very dismal with hardly any water pressure and the door to the bathroom didn't close properly, otherwise nice clean rooms.
Nice stay after long hours of travel on the way to Gauteng. We especially appreciated the shade net, which gave extra peace of mind (you never know when you'll get the unexpected hail).
There was no parking supervision, someone was standing diagonally across my parking space, the town's power was off and there was no cold water in the morning when we wanted to shower.
Arrive at guest house around 17:00 and it is difficult to find a place. The bins were still full of previous tenants' rubbish. According to website there would be two single beds and one double bed, but no double bed. Cutlery not sufficient for 4 x persons. Just 2 knives, 3 forks etc. Not enough glasses and plates as well as other kitchen tools. Only small salad sink in so-called "self-catering" kitchen. Ants were present everywhere. The unit we stayed in had no air conditioning as advertised, only ceiling fans that whirred and whirred on the roof and made sleeping difficult. I will definitely avoid this place in the future and all the other guests I talked to felt the exact same way about this place.
We would recommend it to anyone driving in that direction! Even though it was minimum temperatures we didn't know about cold! The lovely, warm blanket and heater made us feel right at home! Thank you!
It's well equipped and very neat! Wonderful accommodation, good linen and furniture.
Everything was as arranged, no unpleasant surprises. The people in the area as well as during our inquiries at the resort, restaurants were just simply pleasant. This will definitely be our stopover.
Was just right for a quick stopover on the long road!
Very nice overnight stop halfway on the way to Cape Town. Environment is very peaceful which is perfect for resting after a long shift on the road. Had a great stay!
If the on-site maintenance is done regularly, the shower will not be sitting with broken tiles and doors. Was disappointed with the shower where there was a broken tile. This could have caused a serious injury, and the shower door will fall on you when it is opened or closed. That's one thing you usually want when you've driven a long way, to take a nice shower and relax. The security is not as desired, gates are not even locked. We asked Ronnie if the gates were locked, his answer was "there are no break-ins or thefts here".
Other places that charge the same rates are usually better in terms of facilities, space, service etc. Directions on documentation and internet are incorrect. Facility is too small. Service below average.
Poor reception. TV out of order, and apparently it was too much trouble for Roger to come help. The power went out and no provision was made for it. No soap or shampoo. The shower door fell off and was of poor quality. The sink water didn't get hot.
The walls between the rooms are just a piece of cardboard! We could hear everything that happened in the room next to us and the particular guests played loud music through the TV until 03:30 in the morning. The security that is being talked about is just a sliding gate that is not even locked in the evening. If I hadn't finished paying, I would never have stayed there. At least Ronnie was a nice person. Would not recommend it at all.

Seasons change from year to year and drought and snow affect the surroundings and the look of gardens. Photos are deemed accurate from when they were taken, and management cannot be held responsible for comparative picture expectations during dry and cold seasons.
The establishment has low pressure solar geysers. Clear instructions are provided on how to use the hot water mixed with cold water. This means that some days/nights during winter, the water will be mild and possibly even cold. This does not often happen but on occasions there are multiple overcast and very cold days in winter. Guests should advise the resident manager if you run out of hot water.
Mostly all tiles are somewhat slippery, especially when wet. Guests must please be careful.
The establishment is not suitable for those in wheelchairs or those that are physically disabled.
All units are non-smoking.
All guests must please bring their own swimming towels and irons.
Daily cleaning is available.
