Accommodation at Ansteys Beach Self-catering & Backpackers Guests consists of well-equipped self-catering apartments that can sleep between 2 to 6 people, private air-conditioned backpacker rooms, as well as budget communal backpacker cabins. Each self-catering apartment has a private bathroom and kitchen, while some are fitted with air-conditioning and a TV with selected DStv Hotel package; some of the private backpacker rooms have DStv as well.
Guests staying in Backpacker cabins have access to the communal bathroom facilities, kitchen, dining area and TV lounge. For convenience, linen is provided but guests please need to bring their own beach and bath towels.

Heidi and Ashley are super friendly. Really enjoyed our time, literally one minute from the beach. The surfer dudes who made music, you guys are awesome.
The place is nice and has a clean environment.
Everything was awesome. From arrival to departure. We were kept informed of all activities. Calm and exciting.

Good morning i didn't enjoy my stay, the wifi was terrible, had hardly 99 % of the time. You had joung kids from another country staying there that couldn't give a shit about ather guests. Tried to sleep and they were carrying on like they were the only people at the place. I didn't know about the shower and toilet being separated from your room.
Upon arrival we were afraid to enter the premises. It sounded like we were going into a night club. Our vehicle we rented was not safe. Guests' children were squealing everywhere. Room smelled of wood and mold. The pillow and mattress felt like you were lying on old sweat. It was disgusting. I showered in my pads the next morning. Hot water came and went. There were peculiar bags next to our room. You couldn't brush your teeth in those sinks. We booked for a couple of nights but only stayed 1 night. We had to drink allergex for the itching of 1 night.
Absolutely loved staying here! This backpackers accommodation is well maintained and is totally value for money. The location is a gem, just right in front of the beach, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Imagine waking up to the beautiful view from the terrace. The rooms are decent and clean. The toilets and showers are common to all guests and are clean. They do provide access to amenities like free WiFi, swimming pool and other recreational facilities like a pool table, TV, etc. They do have a self-catering facility with basic cooking amenities and utensils. At last, the staff there at the reception are very kind and friendly. Ready to assist you at any time of the hour. Really impressed with it.

I stayed in the Turtle room at Ansteys for 4 nights over the weekend of 3 October. The room is quite small but as a single traveller basically just needing a place to stay while competing in a triathlon it was sufficient for my needs, as well as being well maintained and clean, with its own small enclosed outside area. Ansteys should be commended for the cleanliness of their well-kept communal bathrooms. The practicality of the Jojo-tank system at the bathrooms is fully understandable, although the occasional whirring of the pump, when in use, could sometimes be heard at night. The friendly and helpful staff were very accommodating and available from early in the morning till late at night. A sense of history combined with a modern touch added to the charm of the place. The deposit payable at check-in was refunded to me within 1 week of checkout. Thanks to the staff and management at Ansteys for an overall enjoyable stay!
The place is next to the beach, this is the good thing, but the room for R450 is like I was sleeping in a Zozo, bathrooms are far from the cabins. The kitchen arrangement needs more attention.
The place is dirty and needs work done ,the appliances in the kitchen don't work. The water shortage in times of covid? The communal bathrooms weren't cleaned every. Why? The sheets were clean which was the only relief.
I was not given the access code for the gate. WiFi password and no parking was allocated to me. It was tiring to fight and be inconvenienced over parking late at night. Thank God for the emergency numbers that were made available, otherwise I would have been in serious trouble due to staff incompetence. I mean simple administrative work like giving a person the gate access code was overlooked. Maybe make a small pamphlet for tenants with all the necessary codes.
I had to call in to complain about people making noise etc. All they said was, sorry. The next night it was just the same again. And when I got there they asked me R2100, but I paid my deposit. Then they should have gone and looked first. They don't even greet you right. Look at you so funny.

Please consider the issue of the toilets they are far especially at night and bar fridges.

The place was great and very neat.
Only concern is safety of outside parking. Although nothing has happened, one is worried.
Friendly service. Fantastic place. Can you keep busy if you can't go exploring? Close to everything you need. Unfortunately there were a few guests who made it unpleasant for others and the staff. But everywhere you find those people. Although I am already planning my next trip there. Love the place.
Booked a log room wendy but the heat was too bad had to upgrade to an aircon unit.
The place was nice, my children enjoyed the beach and swimming pools.
Accommodation was clean and neat, comfortable pillows and mattresses, value for money. Just extremely hot inside the cabins and the stairs is a challenge especially if you have a lot of luggage. Onsite coffee shop with nice affordable breakfasts. Think backpacking is for the younger generation but it was an experience for all of us.
I had to pay for room that has aircon, but it doesn't work. Asked for discount due to it, but had to pay full price. They would come straight back to me about it but hear nothing because they have their money now I drove a day earlier and still had to pay for the extra day.
Beautiful place, walking distance to beach. Very clean and neat. We were separate from the backpackers section so it was nice and quiet where we were. I just think they could make bath towels available. We only slept there for one night ─ were there for business ─ and it would have been so much more convenient if there were bath towels, because they tend to take up so much more space in your bag. But other than that it is a beautiful place and I would recommend it to anyone.

My children had a very nice stay there. They loved it.
The good service and friendly staff meant a lot to me. I would stay here again and I would also recommend anyone to use Ansteys.
Very friendly staff and assistance. We loved the location and Heidi's cafe is the best restaurant in that area and we tried a few! The only thing I would recommend is washing the shower curtains and add table sinkers to the bottom of the shower curtains as it keeps sticking to you when you shower. If you take it away the floor is soaked, but other than that, this is definitely our go-to place for next year again.
It was amazing staying there. The units are beautiful and clean and the guy who works there at night was so nice and so friendly. Thank you so much for being so friendly and helpful to my friends and I. This was the best accommodation ever. The guy who works during the day however was kind of cold. Please work on that. I really enjoyed my stay.
First of all the place is safe and very accessible. The level of customer care is very high you just feel like you at home and well taken care of and the privacy. For myself, I arrived in Durban late and I was a bit worried and they came to rescue, when I called they answered and assisted me with directions. The next time I will come with my family.
It's a nice informal place with very nice people who help where needed and go the extra mile.
This is a very safe and enjoyable place which has value for your money especially if you do not have enough money. The only challenge is the shared shower especially for small children. Other than that the place is very tranquil and safe.
We had a very nice stay. Everything needed is there. Only the gas shower which had little pressure and either burned you or was ice cold was a frustration.
The unit was neat and clean. The view was incredible and a morning cup of coffee on the balcony tasted just that much better with the school of dolphins frolicking in the surf early in the morning. I would only recommend that the place might consider building more braai facilities, because you don't always feel like eating out. Although, the restaurant Blue Dolphin on the beach probably makes the best food we have ever eaten.
Good service. Meets all our expectations and more for backpackers accommodation. The ablution blocks were exceptionally clean and tidy.
The stairs to the rooms are a lot after a long day, but otherwise very peaceful and nice and calm.
It's my second visit to Ansteys and will go there again in the future. The people make you feel at home there. Just a pity my stay was so short.
We were a family of 14 people in total and we enjoyed our stay at Ansteys Beach. We've really received value for our money. We're planning to go back soon.

Was a bit anxious and room too small. No storage space for your personal items. Bathrooms were messy. No soap and toilet paper in the bathrooms.
Curtains are dirty and thorn. Fridge is dirty and rusty

Very nice stay, the unit is comfortable and the air conditioner was a winner in the hot weather. Staff very helpful. Heidi's Cafe on site also provided delicious breakfast at very reasonable prices. Not even 100 m from the beach and can just walk. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again if going to Durban again, as it is still close enough to Durban itself.

It's ideally located as you just walk to the beach. No stress of parking hunting. Lack of DStv was a bit of disappointment though.
I just want to say thank you for the good service received. Parking is a bit scarce, but the receptionist made sure we got parking inside and accommodated us that way. The apartment is beautiful and we had a very comfortable stay.

We enjoyed our stay as it is situated at the beach front with an amazing sea view & so refreshing. A perfect holiday destination indeed. Just a few things though that we wish you had mentioned before our arrival: It is a bit inconvenient staying here without a car because the shops/restaurants are quite far (not within walking distance). There are no ATM's in the surroundings & there are extra charges if you make use of the swipe machine. Lastly, the restrooms are shared. Otherwise all was good. Thank you.

Accommodation at Ansteys Beach Self-catering & Backpackers Guests consists of well-equipped self-catering apartments that can sleep between 2 to 6 people, private air-conditioned backpacker rooms, as well as budget communal backpacker cabins. Each self-catering apartment has a private bathroom and kitchen, while some are fitted with air-conditioning and a TV with selected DStv Hotel package; some of the private backpacker rooms have DStv as well.
Guests staying in Backpacker cabins have access to the communal bathroom facilities, kitchen, dining area and TV lounge. For convenience, linen is provided but guests please need to bring their own beach and bath towels.
Guests can make use of the free Wi-Fi Internet access, cool down in the swimming pool in the tropical garden, enjoy a drink in the small bar which has a pool table, or have a meal at Heidi’s Cafe on the premises which is located above the swimming pool.
