Antbear Drakensberg Lodge

Accommodation comprises 9 double rooms, 3 budget rooms, 2 luxury suites and a luxury cave. Each room has an en-suite bathroom and a fireplace while some also have a lounge area. The luxury cave has a private deck from where one can enjoy 180-degree views of Giants Castle, the Amphitheatre, and Bushman's River valley.
We cater for small intimate groups and never have more than 45 guests at a time. The lodge is a laid back, lovingly-cared-for kind of place where you feel a sense of happiness and peace. Honeymoon stays turn into anniversary commemorations just as guests become friends. Even foreign tourists return for a second and third taste.
Nearby activities include walks in the Drakensberg mountain range, visits to bushman paintings, horse trails through a private game reserve, canoe trips, canopy tours and the Midlands Meander to mention but a few. Guests are welcome to explore the activities of the Drakensberg and Natal Midlands.
So if you are looking for a place where art, beauty and time away are important, then Antbear Drakensberg Lodge is worth a second look.

8 guests' feedbackService is excellent! People, make sure you stay here: it's is an unforgettable experience and they go to such an effort.
Although the temperature was unexpectedly cold, due to a cold front, our stay was very pleasant. The units were private and comfortable. The meals were unbeatable. We were lucky we could still book for December. This is exactly what we need: peace and quiet.
First of all, the place looks nothing like the pictures. Remote and neglected with only the receptionist and us there. The owner wandered around outside until we wanted to give way then he chose a course! Over R3000 for one night, fish moths in the bath, dirty houses and very dangerous for children with electric cables lying everywhere. The so-called horses seemed sad to be there. Receptionist didn't know what was on the menu for dinner - her answer "We do what we do". Refused to give our money back and as I say, the owner didn't even come to show his face to ask if everything is ok.
We enjoyed every glimpse from the lovely woodwork everywhere to the delicious food. The hot view was breathtaking. Will be back again!
What a unique and beautiful place! On arrival we were greeted in a friendly fashion by Lechal. She also showed us the lodge and explained how everything worked. The rooms are beautiful. All the woodwork is done by the owner himself. You won't find these unique pieces elsewhere. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and clean. Rooms all have a fireplace and Jacuzzi. It is perfect for cold winter's days. Breakfast and dinner takes place around a communal table and you get the opportunity to enjoy a drink before dinner with other guests and socialise a bit. What a nice experience to meet so many new people. After dinner some of the guests stayed behind in the communal area in front of the fire to play games or watch TV while the rest went back to their chalets to their private fireplaces. Really a wonderful place, beautiful area and friendly and helpful staff.
Great personalised service - we even got private dining. One of the best meals I have had in a very long time - really thought I was eating at a 5 star restaurant. The cave was really awesome with amazing views. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all (including TV which was great) and just enjoy some peace and quiet with your other half i couldn't think of a better place. An amazing value for money when you consider the level of accommodation, service levels and the meals that are included.
Unfortunately, I think it's more for foreigners who can afford it. Antbear was kind enough to give a discount, but was still on the expensive side. I don't know the Drakensberg very well, but I would go again - just not to Antbear. The road is a bit bad and far from everything. It is beautiful.
I have been living in South Africa for all my life, and only find out now about all the beautiful places that still needs to be explored!
