98 guests' feedbackWonderful! We had an amazing time.
Very nice stay in a clean and tidy house. Peaceful atmosphere and area. Friendly welcome.
Lovely cottage, clean and neat, great location, friendly caretakers, awesome views, value for money, well worth a visit!
We had a great time in the Arniston Cottage. It's so beautiful and neat. Definitely going again. Cottage is very neat and comfortable. Many, many thanks.
We really enjoyed our time in Kassiesbaai. It was just too short. The apartment is a stone's throw from the sea and is clean and tidy. The caretakers are pleasant and made us feel right at home. They were ready to help and directed us to all the great places to eat and where to get fresh seafood and fish. We felt safe and the Kassiesbaaiers were very friendly. Next time we will visit longer.
I was a little sceptical due to previous reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. The cottage was neat and clean. The caretakers welcomed me at the cottage and were friendly and very helpful. They provided me with towels (which I forgot) and showed me all the nice fishing spots and best places to eat. The view is spectacular and within walking distance from the quaint harbour and the beach. The kitchen had everything and I loved every moment there. The locals were friendly and I felt quite safe in my surroundings. I will definitely be back.
The place is neat and comfortable.
Very cute. Just not sleeping space for 3 adults. But 2. The sofa maybe for a smaller child.
Residence was neat and safe. Bedrooms are a bit small and suggest a sleeper couch in the front room.
We had a great stay it was just a pity the accommodation was not up to standard, everything was old even the bassinet was falling off the wall, the mattress was terrible and the bedding was old. The place needs a good overall. It was way over budget, and to charge the amount we had to pay per night was a disgrace. I suggest that in the future you inspect a place before settling on a tariff. Another thing to warn all tall persons is that the ceilings in the bedroom and lounge are very low and could cause a head injury. No markings on the taps to indicate hot or cold, water also took forever to heat up.
We always wanted to live in Kassiesbaai and experience something of the village's character - we have been there before. However, Arniston Cottage was a disappointment: no name on the cottage, no keys to get in, no one to receive us, a barbecue and grill that were not cleaned. It's a lovely house, but the maintenance is not up to standard. We had to go in and out via the sliding door because we didn't get keys until the second day - the sliding door is loose and can't lock. It also doesn't make sense that overseas visitors are given towels, but local visitors have to take their own towels. We were in another house in Kassies Bay too, and it looks beautiful.
We initially had a good time at the Arniston Cottage, but on our last evening there was a break-in into our car. There was no prior notification about the safety of our vehicle that could be compromised. This incident left a bitter taste of our stay at the cottage as we did not feel safe afterwards.
Peaceful and restful.
Very interesting to stay among the fishing community. Loud but friendly. An experience to remember.
Cottage is in the locals part of Arniston, so you get a real feel of the heart of Arniston. People are friendly, and the cottage is a real authentic fisherman's house.
Lovely stay, but the apartment with loft is a challenge for tall people - there is a warning to alert you. Sea view very special. Environment beautiful and friendly - people from Kassiesbaai make you feel at home.
It was the best house, I would like to go again.
Just looked around a lot for the place. Directions and the unit are not numbered. Had to call around to get someone to receive us. Had a nice stay, regardless of the heavy windstorm.
Suggest that owner give advance notice of basic necessities such as wood, extra blankets, toilet paper, bottled water etc. because shops are kilometers away in Bredasdorp. Only 1 toilet roll for 4 adults for 2 nights. Loiterers have access to premises. TV remote's batteries do not work. Lovely hot shower. Friendly residents.
First, our car was not safe. Our neighbors car was broken into the same night and the owner didn't even have the decency to come and see what was going on. The service of the caretaker Patrick was very great. He arrived in the morning hours to come and see what was going on. He is not the owner and it is not his duty to sort it out. Nowhere was it mentioned that we have to secure our car from any break-ins, because that's quite a problem as we've heard. Second, the hot water was a problem. There is one geyser between 3 apartments. That's also unacceptable. At least you are looking for value for your money. It's winter and who wants to take a shower in cold water? I really hope Colette will do something about it. We also informed Patrick about the problem.
Accommodation is clean. Fridge door doesn't seal properly so you need to think about that. Close to the beach. Friendly community with caution to leaving things open and tempting to passers-by. Overall pleasant and comfortable even with the high winds we had. Indoor braai area useful.
As regular users of the website's excellent service, we were unfortunately very disappointed for the first time in accommodation - Arniston Cottage, which we rented for the weekend. The few photos on the app are accurate, but the immediate surroundings around the house completely spoil that picture. The immediate environment right next to and around the house is very neglected and dirty. The house of one of the direct neighbors is very dirty and neglected outside and creates a very bad impression. There was rubbish lying around and my children had to be very careful of pieces of glass sticking out everywhere in the sandy soil. I realize that the house is located in Kassies Bay, and that the house is among the 'locals' houses, and that some of the people are having a hard time, but tenants should be aware of what they are getting into before booking this house. There were a few dogs running loose (and not inside a fence or wall) and we were afraid they would bite. The dogs woke us up barking very often in the night, it was very disturbing. Likewise, the neighbors were fighting a lot and making noise and kicking up a fuss outside their house, a child was also given a terrible beating in public, I was very upset at how the poor child screamed. At night there were also drunken people walking around and making a noise. I have never experienced anything like this at any other accommodation that is rented out by the website. We didn't always feel safe, even though there were burglar bars on the windows. The fact that we had to park the car outside (behind the house) was not reassuring in this type of environment, especially since we were warned against 'petty crime'. I strongly feel that photos of the immediate environment will be an asset to the website and app, so that one gets a sense of the environment. It does not help that the exact location is indicated on a map - it does not provide enough information. The house inside was average, the cleanliness I would give a 5/10. Some of the cupboards in the kitchen are in a very bad condition and the fridge (besides the rust) was not completely clean. Some of the facilities are old and used. I cannot recommend Arniston Cottage enough as our weekend was such a huge disappointment. Instead of completely relaxing, we were constantly on guard and uncomfortable with the environment, as described above. The house may be 50 m from the sea, but unfortunately it does not make up for all that is bad, as mentioned above. The photos do not give one the true impression of the true extent of the house within its true surroundings - an environment where certainly not everyone will feel comfortable.
1) No hot water. Having arranged many bookings via the website, this was our first experience not having hot water from the hot tap in the unit, for the duration of our stay. It appears one geyser only serves the three units - which were all occupied for the weekend. Our unit is the furthest away from the ex-garage, where the geyser is situated. 2) Preparation of the unit. The bed was seemingly prepared in a hurry, since the bed was not prepared with care. The fitted sheet was loose over the mattress, with a washing peg stuck between the sheets. Only half a roll of toilet paper was supplied. Tea, coffee, braai wood, firelighters were not supplied as advertised. We booked the cottage three weeks in advance.
I'll definitely come here again. Was just awesome.
Arniston Cottage will definitely see us again soon.
See stars.
We love this place. It really feels like a holiday now. Walk around and discover the most beautiful places that are not full of people.
Only in SA. A must.
Very nice and neat.
We had a wonderful time in Die Waenhuis. The caretaker had been very helpful, and the place had been very tidy. I will definitely come back to it. It's peaceful, there isn't too much to do for children in Arniston itself but there are nearby places and I would definitely recommend Arniston to family and friends.
I will definitely be booking there again in the future. Anne and Patrick are so helpful.
The location allowed us to walk everywhere and enjoy the outdoors and sights. In the house it was cozy with enough creature comforts.
Ons het die tyd van ons lewe gehad, baie dankie.
Getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life for a whole week was such a blessing. The accommodation was basic but met our needs. There were a few inconveniences, i. e. 1 geyser is shared by 3 units so the morning after we arrived we had no hot water as the tenants next door had run the geyser dry. We then had to wait a few hours before being able to shower. There was no iron or cutting board in the unit, although the caretaker, Patrick, had happily offered up his own. The driveway we had to use was a bit worse for wear and could do with some love. Maintenance of the place was on the shallow end, a paint job could go a long way, nevertheless, the unit was very clean and tidy. Although inconvenient for everyday living, the aforementioned could not and did not detract from the wonder which is Arniston. Living amongst the local community, experiencing their daily way of life, being able to fish on your doorstep, meeting the fishermen at the harbour when the boats came in, the breathtaking views and warmth of the people were simply majestic. Can't describe how fantastic the past week has been and the weather was nothing short of amazing considering we're in the heart of winter. Thank you to every hand we touched, every friendly smile, head nod and hello on our drives and walks through the town, and every helping hand, and words of advice and kindness that added to such a wonderful experience. Kassiesbaai is forever etched in our hearts and we'll surely be back!
Nice view. Very nice.
I would recommend friends to the 7 and 4 sleeper, I had a look at it. The 2 sleeper is very uncomfortable for adults upstairs, which we booked. They advertise free wifi, but there is no wifi.
Very nice stay, if there is what you need, just take your own towels and wood with you, if you don't want to stay in a dirty place, but if you want it, this is a very good option. I had a nice stay.
The house is very nice and tidy, will visit the house again anytime.
Visiting the caves was a highlight. The two house restaurants' hospitality was great. Felt like home with excellent quality food. We bought fresh fish from uncle at a ridiculously cheap price. With all that I say, "Arniston I'll be back".
However, the cottage itself by no means met the standards that were advertised. There was no cleaning service. No closets to pack your clothes. Furniture is held together by grace and a little glue. Windows were so dirty you have to open them to see outside. The upper room was infested with wood beetles and I had to keep everything in my suitcases. TV controls didn't work (which didn't really matter). But the people around were fantastic, experiencing the fishing village was indescribable. The houses are preciously beautiful.
Pleasantly surprised. Local residents are very friendly and helpful. Nice reception by Patric.
Kassie Bay's people are very friendly, but unity needs attention. Torn lace curtain, curtains with spots. Sliding door inside full of greasy hand marks as well as TV. Some of the sofas and cushion covers do not smell fresh and clean. The bed linen was clean and the kitchen was clean. Waenhuis unit's bathroom is very small. Patrick was very nice and helpful. Place has potential but needs attention. If you like privacy and silence, units are not for you. Units against each other and with noisy neighbors on inclement weather days it gets pretty bad. Stayed two weeks, linen on beds only changed once. Beds re-made only on the day, unit not serviced at all or even braai cleaned. Know it's self catering, but still feel if guests are booking for so long, a little more consideration can go a long way.
Environment poor and not generally tidy. Construction waste is dumped by the sea. Entrance to dwelling unit poor. Curtains must always be drawn. We were warned against beggars and burglars.
The thatch roof in the bedroom needs a good clean as its very dusty. Enjoyed Arniston, beautiful beach.
Inconvenience with sleeping/barbecuing - theft is a problem.
We were excited to find some peace and quiet in Arniston. However, we were bombarded day and night with loud music, noisy drunk people hanging out all night and dogs barking constantly. My mother who is a pensioner was with us and she did not enjoy it at all. We all got very little rest because of the noise. The caretaker tried to silence the people but they paid no attention to him. This accommodation does not fit in at all with the standard that we are used to at the website. I wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy. Very disappointing.
The visit was fantastic. Will definitely visit again. Hospitality is top notch.
Beautiful fisherman's cottage in Kassies Bay. Neat, equipped and the hearth in the kitchen is a winner. Had a great time in beautiful Arniston.
Very nice stay. It was a privilege to be able to experience Kassiesbaai. Would only recommend hanging space and mirror in rooms.
Arniston is my number one place for good fishing and just relaxing. Will definitely visit there again.
I stayed in the Waenhuis. Lovely private courtyard. Bathroom is very small but clean. Ann and Patric were more than helpful. Those who would like to stay in a historic part of Arniston will enjoy it.
It was really an awesome weekend, Patrick who receives you is very friendly and helpful. We had a really nice stay in a clean and tidy place. Will definitely go back again.
Due to the lockdown and not being able to go to the beach, we had a shortened vacation. We returned home on the morning of December 31st.
Have a nice time with family and friends. House was neat, comfortable and sea distance. We plan to use house again in the future. Great service from the caretaker.
Appreciated the rest.
Kassiesbaai a great place to stay. People very friendly. The apartment was clean and functional and within walking distance to beach. Patrick was really helpful and great to know he was nearby if we needed anything. Lunched at Miens tea room great service and good food.
My visit to Arniston was really great, my family still can't get enough of it. The proximity of the sea, quiet places if you want to be peaceful and the clean air is very special for me. The accommodation and amenities were more than I expected, definitely want to visit again.
Have a nice time. Caretaker, Anne, is very helpful.
Cottage location close to the beach, very tranquil. Patrick was very helpful. Loved the decor, very nautical and cottage well equipped with everything you need.
I made the reservation rather hesitantly. Ultimately, I was not disillusioned. You get what you are promised. Safety was also not a factor. Had the opportunity to experience Kassies Bay and its people a little, including the sounds of a church service with catchy singing and a long admonishing sermon on Sunday morning, in a house right next door.
Pleasant stay, but one must ensure doors are locked at night.
Cottage situated in historical village. Locals friendly and helpful. Walking distance to Kassiesbaai, hotel, etc. Great experience. No luxuries but well worth the stay!
The larger town of Arniston is like most other large coastal towns, clearly a lot of money with big unimaginative houses.
Positive: Patrick was extremely helpful. Delicious hot water in both bath and shower. Attention needed: Light in bathroom. Sink in shower. Mats in front of bed and living room, tiles are ice cold. Odd jumbled collection of crockery in kitchen. General finishing, eg rear door. Other guesthouses in this price range usually provide toilet paper and towels. It is inconvenient to go home with a wet towel.
The cottage we stayed in is not the one in the photo - so, photo is misleading. It would also have been good if the exact location of the cottage could have been provided - there was an expectation that one might be closer to the sea with something of a view. We felt unsafe in the area. It is indeed the ideal place to stay for people who would like to have a "local experience" - otherwise I would not recommend it. The bathroom is uncomfortably small and inconvenient. DStv doesn't seem to be working either. The house was also clean and well equipped and Patrick received us well.
Short defibitive still attention inside, distant paint. Grilling equipment is in great short supply. Sofas in living room very stretched out and hollow. All in all, the cottage needs some attention. Cottage needs a little more TLC.
We followed the map sent to us by text and ended up on the far side of Arniston, so the location is tempting. The cottage only has 2 plugs, so would therefore recommend that guests take their own lead, or the cottage procures it. The location was disturbing with uninvited guests coming to beg for money at the front door. Otherwise, it was very peaceful and we were able to rest quite a bit.
We booked this property for 20 days. Items such as bathroom light not connected, clothing rails in build in cupboards, bedside table draw collapsed, kitchen door could not close or lock (we had to stay and sleep in an unlocked property), the sliding door needed a service, kitchen sink tap faulty. The owner's response to us was that it will all be attended to in January 2021 when we have departed was unacceptable.
The peace and tranquillity the place offers is beyond me, it's beautiful and the beaches are simply amazing.
Ideal for winter and summer holidays without stressing about space to accommodate children. The view is just what anyone needs after a long year of work.
Lovely cottage with friendly service and neighbours. Enjoyed our stay.
Very nice, would recommend it.
Headbanging weekend, house not for tall people but otherwise good.
Surroundings not ideal.
Our stay was once again fantastic, very peaceful and safe. Many thanks to Ann who made our stay extra special with her friendliness and helpfulness. See you next time.
Arniston Cottage was very comfortable and suitable for our visit. We are very grateful to have spent some time there.
Nice, clean, near sea, beautiful.
It is a perfect place for a family and the house is spacious, clean and tidy with a covered braai area ideal for entertaining.
We really enjoyed our time. Love the tranquility. House is big enough and liked the braai areas. Everything else was top notch. Thank you very much.
Arniston Cottage het al ons verwagtinge oortref. Dit is 'n baie lekker ruim huis. Ons het dit terdeë geniet. Baie dankie aan Colette. Die opsigter was baie vriendelik en behulpsaam. Sal beslis weer gaan.
The house and apartment were spacious and provided free access for my husband who was in a wheelchair. The house is undergoing renovations here and there, e.g. the window frames, but I have learned that they are in the process of being repaired. The master bedroom's bathroom could do with a small sink and faucet. Otherwise we had a great time. Looking forward to the next visit!
Good experience. Beautiful views. Value for money and located next to the port.
See stars.
This is a place to forget about everything and just focus on nature. It is a good place to relax.
I will recommend Arniston Cottage. It is a wonderful place, not at all what we expected.
It is exactly an ideal getaway place.
It was peaceful and very safe.
Oulike huis met groot, ruim vertrekke. Sal beslis weer daar wil tuisgaan en langer.
We rested and enjoyed ourselves. The place was clean, neat and comfortable. Only criticism would be that the shower's water pressure when the hot water is opened is very bad. One unfortunately struggles to wash hair. Furthermore, a lovely place for the two nights we needed accommodation for.
The place was wonderful, I will visit again.
Our stay was very pleasant. The cottage needs some TLC but otherwise very good.
Value for money. If you want to stay in a real old fisherman's house, among the locals, Arnisron cottage is the place for it. Definitely a unique experience. Arniston is a hidden gem with beautiful unspoiled beaches. Will definitely go back there.
Owner was looking for a blanket, she found it at the laundromat in the end. Never called to apologise. Area was very unsafe. Had to listen to a group of drunk people yell and swear outside the house.
We did not feel safe among the people who constantly came and bothered and the bedding was really not up to standard, it was not clean and fresh. Hungry dogs in the street and also barking at night.
The area is authentic and full of character. But the noise of neighbours and barking dogs, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, lumps in the mattress and minimum shops in the area was not comfortable. The harbour was great, the walk to Willeens was great, Wilheens is amazing! The caves are fantastic!
It was fantastic, beautiful memories and family time were built. Thank you.
I would refer anyone to go on holiday at Arniston. People are friendly and it's also a very clean and quiet place.
I would definitely recommend anyone to vacation there.
