Very interesting guest house with lovely decor and art throughout the house. Rooms were nicely furnished and comfortable.
I got delayed on the way to Johannesburg from Limpopo. It was busy on Sunday, and then heavy rains happened, so it was a bit hard to drive. I called the accommodation to inform them that I may be a bit late for my check-in. When I arrived, I was a bit nervous, but I was received well with kindness. I was shown to my room and everything was explained as if I was on time. I felt really comfortable and welcomed. I always use the accommodation on my way back from Limpopo to Cape Town, and it has always been amazing. The improvements and renovations get better and better each year.
Beautiful spacious place in Hanover. We had a great stay and Danie made sure everything was right for us. Everything neat and well furnished, and secure covered parking. Will definitely stay here again.
Was the ideal stop over from Cape Town to JHB.
We were really pleasantly surprised when we entered the property. From the outside we were wondering if we had made a big mistake. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. The common areas and room were decorated beautifully, clean and fresh. Hanover for us was a half way stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg for a night, and we felt that the accommodation was a little oasis in Hanover.

Yes. Karoo conviviality. Quiet. Beautiful village. Owner's dogs are a problem because you can't get to your place. He must go and shut up the dogs first.

Nice and peaceful place with friendly reception upon arrival. Will stay there again anytime.
Had a very warm welcome - immediately felt welcome. Baby bought "decaf" coffee especially for me! We slept wonderfully warm and cuddly. We could use the fridge in the kitchen. Parked safely behind gates and the guest house was easy to find. The pizza place is a few steps down the street, literally on the opposite corner and I can recommend it.
Received very friendly hospitality, would recommend the place to anyone traveling from Johannesburg to the Cape. Spacious house, it makes it private per room, didn't even know there were other people in the house. Very quiet which helped to get a good night's rest.
Friendly welcome in a very comfortable, spacious house. Very safe and quiet area in the village. Halfway between Cape Town and Johannesburg, it was an experience for the children to experience a town with dusty streets. The guesthouse is within walking distance of the unique NG church building and is definitely worth a visit.

Extremely disappointing accommodation, my own fault as I am used to apartment type accommodation and not a boarding house. But my mistake.
The rooms were very neat and clean and it was like that on both occasions. The biggest problems are the mosquitoes and the heat. Two of the four rooms had ceiling fans but that isn't sufficient to keep away the bothersome mosquitoes. My wife and I couldn't sleep at all the first night (on the way to the beach), because there was no fan in our room - the heat was unbearable and the mosquitoes are irritating. I suggest they put a loose sheer under the duvet so that you don't only have the duvet as an option to sleep under. The reception on our second stay was better/friendlier than the first time, when we didn't feel so welcome. We did buy two additional fans on the way back and it helped a lot for our room, but the other guests in our group who stayed in the other room got bitten a lot and were bothered by the mosquitoes despite the ceiling fan.

Baby and Susan were very hospitable and made us feel at home, they were also very helpful. The rooms are neat and have all the amenities we needed. The village is quiet, but very interesting to walk around. We felt safe and would definitely stay there again.

Clean and tidy, good overnight stay.
The accommodation is very basic yet painfully clean and comfortable. I also liked the secure parking. Just remember, there is no breakfast at the guesthouse itself. However, the hotel and the eatery next door are very convenient for breakfast. The most delicious pizzas are for sale at the eatery directly across the street from Ash Tree.

Slept very peacefully and could continue driving rested.
Bathroom was separate from our room, there was no TV (for young children it is necessary). I arranged for dinner, but when we got there there was no dinner prepared, the coffee / tea station is very basic, no fridge in the room. For someone with young children, the Doberman dog was a concern. Our room door could not lock. I would much rather pay a little more and get more. The photos on the website are misleading. I would not recommend this to anyone at all, feels like you are staying in someone else's home. I can say that the people were very friendly.
Hanover is a small town and one can certainly not expect a high standard of comfort there. At least the room was neat and clean.

Ash Tree Guest House is a fine example of the type of South African country hospitality, something which has been lost in many of the larger towns on the N1, and Bay Van Heerden the matching hostess. Nothing is too much trouble and should you eat there she does a fine "bord kos" with all that one would expect from the Karoo. The rooms have everything which one needs (my room had a great shower which is wonderful after a day on the road ) and have a great homely feel to them. For bikers, an ideal stop as they have a large firm surfaced back yard, most of it coverered, for safe parking.
