I had a very nice stay at the ATKV Hartenbos. The cleaners and staff were very friendly and would go again anytime. Just a pity that we had a bad view, we couldn't look over the sea and we were far from the slides.

Our stay was really good. Pret Park was also amazing, but I wouldn't recommend the accommodation for party people and those who like to have a nice time, especially at night. Security is very strict, especially with loud music and voices. But otherwise, it was okay. I enjoyed the stay.

Our holiday was wonderful at ATKV Hartenbos. Shops are within walking distance from our accommodation. Clean and tidy.
Not in the Seafront lofts, but the administrative staff were kind enough to give us an empty rondavel.
We had a very nice stay. The rondavel was neat and well equipped. What is especially a plus is that there was complete silence at night and we could sleep peacefully. Thank you very much.

We were mainly there for a funeral, but it was very nice. We had a lovely time there. All that was not clear to us was how the resort works. I mention this because although it's probably my fault, I didn't check beforehand because I thought the resort was driving into the gate and receiving reception. So it was a bit overwhelming after a long day. We had a lovely stay, could walk to everything, so we rent a car to save the sea sand. Clean and tidy, really lovely.

The staff was friendly and very helpful, everyone was on their post, and some staff tried to go the extra mile, much appreciated, especially the two friendly ladies. This is a beautiful place and value for money. You and Reality made a huge difference in the price. Phone lines at the venue were difficult to get through, especially when we had to report a lot of issues, frustrating. I know that certain things were out of their control, so my intent is not to be malicious or throw anyone under the bus, but I have to be honest and share the experience. I like this place, and we will go again, but we had a few issues. Air-conditioning did not work from day 1, the heated swimming pool was broken, water and electricity were off for 1 day, electricity was off again the next day, the DB board was faulty and we could not use the microwave, it tripped the whole time, and DB board made sparks and was a possible risk. They exchanged the microwave, but it was the plug and DB board that was faulty and was never fixed. We rather came home early and did not sleep over the last night.
We really enjoyed the visit, Hartenbos and Mossel Bay.
6 bedroom 1 sleeper very nice, would recommend that you have a look at the map first depending on how far you are willing to walk to the play area and other facilities. Overall very close to everything.

Stay was great, we stayed in 114. The shower was horrible, switches off every 60 seconds. The TV has a block that doesn't go away. And maybe put up the WiFi password for guests in the chalet. The spare room's floor was dirty.

Only 2 problems: The unit stank of fire smoke, even into the pillows. I suspect previous guests had barbecued outside and left the bathroom window at the barbecue area open. The shower's glass is leaking, the water is running on the bathroom floor.
It was an overnight visit. Everything was fine, service was excellent, but suggest looking into replacing towels.

I did not like it that my car was parked in the mall's parking area. We had a dedicated parking but it is part of the mall's parking. The room was very neat but when it was load shedding, there was no backup power. There was a portable light in the room but no backup power.

ATKV has gone downhill a lot.
Activities are far from the chalets. They say there is WiFi, but there is nothing. The pools are extremely far to walk to for a swim, and then you have to walk back. The surroundings were enjoyable, but overall, I will not go there again.
Oven was not cleaned. There was no aircon. Old uncomfortable furniture. One small TV in a 2-bedroom unit. Load shedding. The shower pressure was amazing though.
1) ATKV can feel free to train their staff better in customer service and friendliness, or even better, hire people who are focused on friendly customer service and do not want to fight when something is wrong at the cottage, such as a faulty air conditioner. 2) The house was not cleaned to standard.
It was a horrible place we were put. Wasn't even cleaned. From my first call to picking up keys was awful, then we were pushed into a place, still don't know if it was the right place. Place was not ready for us by 19:00 in the evening. People's rubbish was still in the place, blankets were very dirty. Great place, just stay away from ATKV and the guy who answered the phone was very arrogant. If it wasn't for the lady at the agency, I probably would have just looked for another place. It wasn't worth the money and I hear people next to me literally paid more than half so I guess I was pushed into the wrong place. The guy who didn't take my phone call 7 times should let them go instead. His attitude is poor, very poor. People need to get their heads read about his attitude. Don't feel anything for someone who stands and waits, I stand by him, then he doesn't answer the phone. Bad man, bad I tell you. I have never been so disappointed. Very disappointed.

It is lovely to walk there on the footpath. All the facilities, from places to eat are together.
From arrival to departure everything went perfectly. The staff, the cleaners and security are all friendly and helpful. The stay was excellent.
The room is centrally located to all amenities and large, comfortable with DSTV for the sport. Serviced every day by a friendly lady and the breakfast coupons for each day of stay were definitely a great asset. Thank you for the wonderful stay for the 3 days.
We were pleasantly surprised with the upgrades that were done. It was indeed the best value for the accommodation we received. All negative comments are that there are no bedside lamps. Overhead lighting is too intense. Wooden board in kitchen will also be welcome. Hooks in bedroom and bathrooms to hang things.

Hartenbos ATKV is one of the best.
We know Hartenbos very well, but we have never slept in their self-catering units. It was a nice experience. Everything was spotless and the after hours office was very helpful and friendly.
The reception was friendly and well organized. The surroundings are beautiful and we could safely walk along the sea. Unfortunately, we were not informed in advance of the loadshedding schedule and could not heat our dinner at 18:00.
Good location with a comfortable, comfortable bed. Service at ATKV reception was very friendly. Will not stay in the room for a long period — small window and no outside space. Very comfortable for a weekend.
They must just maybe add some rechargeable lights in homes for load-shedding, the candle is dangerous.

The rondavels were fully equipped with everything one needs, top class stove and very tidy with a nice braai spot and very safe area, friendly neighbours. Was very nice. Free hot tub swimming pool was very nice walking distance from the shops and Hennies pub. Very nice to be close to the rugby during load shedding, greeted by dolphins every morning. Was magical. We come again.
I love the modern and comfortable furnished space we were able to take advantage of. Everything is neat and well furnished, I could even toast my bread!
Just that they have to give or do something to make load shedding better for a place that has existed for so long and they don't have a backup plan to make load shedding a little more comfortable for their guests.

Everything was perfect, apart from the food court times. The information sheet in the room gives the times as 7:30, on the door it says 8:00 and then it is 9:00. We had to drive far and it ruined the whole visit to scramble around.

It was nice to be within walking distance of the sea and restaurants. Very well equipped kitchens and facilities. Luxury bedding! The four star for safety is only because we are not used to leaving our car out in the open and not under lock and key/other form of security, but survived it too, and there are parts of the resort that are better provide security.

It was our first holiday at ATKV Hartenbos, we had a great time staying and visiting! Everything was very neat, there is also nice space in the house and everything you need (except swimming towels). It would be nice if you could also provide this, unfortunately you can only pack so much when you fly. The houses/resort are nice and close to everything - restaurants, beach, water park etc. Terribly nice family place and love the Afrikaans! You will definitely see us again.
The place is very well located, but unfortunately someone parked his/her tall trailer right in front of our sea view window. We really enjoyed our time in Hartenbos and would recommend the cottage anytime. The amusement park was very neat.

The accommodation was excellent as last time in Sept 2023, but there was a problem with one of the monitoring devices in the living units which screamed "load shedding" every time with a shrill noise. It woke you up with a jolt. When this was reported we were told to just put up with it until the 27th Nov when a technician could come and look at it. Other than that, the stay was excellent.
Apart from umbrella on balcony which is broken and fire alarm which goes off after loadshedding - 2 hours and 4 hours in the morning - no problem.

The website appears to be out of date as the rondavel we stayed in certainly does not look like the photos on the website. The unit is much more modern, with quality (white) bedding, induction hobs, new cupboards and new television. Good value for money for a family of 4.
Weekend was great, just very short as we had to attend a family funeral in Mossel Bay. Would definitely be back.

As an ATKV member, it is always a pleasure to stay at ATKV Hartenbos.
There is very little storage space for clothes. Out of the 7 days, we only got towels for 2 days. It was quite a problem. I asked for towels but just didn't get any.
Before, the units were definitely cleaned better. For example, we asked for toilet paper when we moved in, then the press team said they were waiting for stock, we had to ask again the next day to get it. The drying cloth they gave us was wet, apparently there were no dry, clean drying cloths. The unit was also not as clean as before. There was only a single battery light for "loadshedding", no way to boil water for coffee or tea. At reception they also didn't say anything about whether they had generators or not, so we weren't prepared at all.
And if you want to stay at home and grill, it's just as convenient.
Cleaner always comes at lunchtime. Not good. So we refuse access.

The stay was good. I was surprised to find out the semi-detached unit I was in was outside of the fun park, close to residential units.

We were well received by the security guard. We stopped by for a funeral, so it wasn't exactly visiting. Stayed 3 nights and it was OK. Place was well furnished with everything needed. It was just very cold because of the tiles which were also a bit unsafe. We will come again, but want to live in a different part, by the beach.
However, our stay was uncomfortable especially due to the condition of the bed. Unit 11's bed is really bad. Scroll to center. Bath taps very tight and very difficult to close. It was reported and received attention, but is still a problem. TV image very poor. Guests in neighboring unit were very disruptive with loud music and loud voices. Ants were a problem.
Overall it was a nice place very close to the beach, with normal rooms for one night with kids. We only expected it to be an exclusive ATKV territory/complex, but it is more an open area with shops, supermarkets and restaurants open to the general public. At first, it was hard to find by ourselves where were the rooms or the reception. The rooms were just on the floor over the shops on the waterfront, nobody on the site just opened with the room card, and parking is a reserved place in the general waterfront parking area. the reception is back outside the waterfront 500m into the city.
Will come next time in the summer, water was cold and with loadshedding we couldn't ride the supertubes.

Wonderful place to vacation. All facilities clean and tidy and lots to do.
Unfortunately, the resort is too open and doesn't really feel like being on vacation. Rather like my daily routine.
Front porch was wet and slippery (had no rain) and house smelled unpleasant. Also, there is no effective anti-theft protection in front of all the windows.
Upon arrival to check in, we were told to pay an outstanding balance before my husband could get the keys. My husband paid it but mentioned to the office staff that all monies were already paid weeks in advance. Long story short, paid again, got the keys, slept there for 3 nights, and checked out happily only to be told that we have to wait until the person that deals with 'refunds' returns from leave. Overall annoyed with their service. However, my booking agent was absolutely amazing. ATKV can learn a lot from her. She is efficient, replies swiftly, and is an absolute pleasure to deal with.

Was disappointed, I made the reservation through the website for the rondavel with a shared bathroom and then changed it directly with ATKV to the rondavel with a bathroom. Got proof that change was done but didn't get the changed rondavel. Was only for 2 nights.
There is no hot water to shower in the evening, there is no WiFi, no inverter if the power goes out. People who don't even stay at the resort come and go as they please, no security. The TV is in a silly place. Fun Park charges unnecessarily, while other resorts allow one to swim and use slides for free.
The freezer section of the fridge had not been properly closed earlier and therefore froze so much that the door could not close.

We booked the Hut for the night. ATKV Hartenbos is very centrally located with plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Will definitely stay there again. Or stay longer.
We always sleep over at ATKV Hartenbos on our way to Plett and it's always a nice stay. The rooms are clean as well as the bathrooms and the little rondavels are walking distance to the beach, Pick n Pay, heated swimming pool and restaurants. I always recommend it as a getaway destination and will definitely visit again.

Lady at reception had a little trouble getting our reservation because the reference number was different. She kept getting my name wrong. Was a bit frustrating. Stay no 138, one blind in bathroom was not there, so sharp sunlight catches you in the morning. There was a small frog in the sink and a small cockroach in the drawer by the cutlery. The sink in bathroom leaks water from the plug, so a bit difficult to wash face. Otherwise we had a nice stay. Thank you.

Beach is clean and not overcrowded on weekends. The residential units as well as caravan parks are conveniently within walking distance.
Place is small with no microwave or braai area, something that might need to be looked into when people book the place.
Our visit was very nice. There were no bathroom mats, and brought this to the attention of cleaning staff and they said they would bring but then never brought for us. The bedding was very fluffy and soft. Our cottage was cleaned every second day and our barbecue cleaned every morning. The fridge didn't want to get cold and the freezer worked poorly. It was a very nice holiday - the location was perfect and was walking distance to everything.

The only problem we encountered with the stay is that the shower is very small and we struggled to fit in.
We did a tour from Port Alfred to Cape Town and back. Stayed 3 nights at Hartenbos. Service by reception staff excellent. Does everything to make the stay as pleasant as possible. Had a two-bedroom house. Very convenient. However, a little more care should be given to small things. Couldn't use TV until we bought 2-prong plug. No small dishcloth or sponge either.
It was very nice. We did absolutely nothing. There is one complaint, we had to shower in cold water every time.
The unit contains everything needed. The beds were neat. Unfortunately the unit was never serviced. The toilet also leaked and I had to dry water every now and then.

Could improve on load shedding preparedness, like a load shedding bulb inside and outside the unit. Did provide a candle and SMS load shedding times which was appreciated a lot.

We had a nice stay in Hartenbos, there were a few niggles. My wife had to shower in cold water because there was no hot water in the ablution block. Wanting to go to the toilet at 2 in the morning and the door to the ablution block was locked and none of the 4 people's keys could unlock it. I had to call the emergency number to get it open, I believe there was a problem earlier because there was a brick to hold the door open. The unit was neat and clean. The man at reception could be a little friendlier.
Unfortunately, I forgot my orthopedic pillow in the lodge. Tried 7 times to contact them, no answer, only the answering machine with annoying music.
Close to shops and can go for a walk safely.
Very nice resort, well located and maintenance is good. Safe. Didn't like that the units are so against each other and braai place has no space. The power point is literally against the sink. Wasn't comfortable with it but the unit is good value for money considering where it is located.
All problem is the braai facilities which were behind the rondavel with other guests. We would love to have our own braai next to the cabin which is more private.
DStv was great to have and the unit was also well equipped.
First, I am sent around between 3 addresses just to get to the office. Paying dearly for normal ATKV facilities after I have already paid for ATKV. Get chased out of warm water swimming area because it closes for a certain period of time. Then have to pay R100 again for just 2 hours then out again then pay again for 2 hours. Stupid. Public (Hartenbos residents) walk and make noise between rondavels. We asked that bed linen be changed please due to a coffee mark. Trash cans inside rondavels are not empty.
We have been members of ATKV for several years, but were not prepared that the rondavel we were placed in did not have a bathroom. Moreover, the ablution we had to share with fellow vacationers was a long way from our rondavel. Needless to say, visiting the facility at night was a problem for us. We were without hot water for three nights, which problem I sorted out myself with a worker. We were moved closer to the ablution on insistence.

I was last at Hartenbos ATKV as a child and was surprised by what this resort still has to offer. It is in excellent condition and well maintained. A small safe haven especially for children. The luxury residential units are especially perfect for a young family. Only wish we could stay longer.
We really enjoyed it! The staff and the people around who live there are all so friendly and helpful. Everything was so convenient because the restaurants and shops are all near you. The resort itself is very, very beautiful! I highly recommend the hot baths! And also all the other activities outside! Best place to relax with friends or even just your family! Definitely value for money!
It was peaceful and beautiful sea view. All that is bad is that the ablution block has no place to hang your clothes in towels. But overall we really enjoyed it and lots to do for young and old.
Can walk where you want to be. Children can be held captive. Quiet area in the evening good entertainment for all ages. Definitely the right place for parents who want to rest but also have children who want to do things.

All great, but two recommendations. I don't believe they can do anything about it, but location of braai behind the round table directly next to other round dawel's braai is a little troublesome. You always have to lock the door when you sit in the back and barbecue. TV's image is still very dark and cannot be set.

The sleeper couch could have been cleaned inside (when you fold it open).
Would have expected better bedding for the price we paid. The dishes were also not quite complete. The braai pan has e.g. only had 2 covers. But I must say the place was clean inside and also serviced by Pestcontrol. No bugs, which was great.

The under roof barbecue area at home is unfortunate and of no use because: 1. The roof is not over the area where you have to put your stuff. 2. The tiles are very slippery and dangerous, especially for small children. 3. There is no light inside the braai.
We had a nice stay and visited several places in the Garden Route. My son really enjoyed the pool and slides.

A few minor alterations to the rondavel: extra plug in kitchen area. Fix ceilings. Fix window handles that are loose. Minimise music levels.
Although I booked a detached unit we were placed in "semi-detached". People were booked next to and across from us and there was no privacy if you sat outside. Masks were also not worn, although people were coughing and spluttering across the street. I felt very distressed. The unit was also not 100% clean. There were old urine marks on the toilet and floors were dirty. My feet were pitch black after walking barefoot on tiles. So i.e. the unit is not disinfected either. There are also no blinds in front of the windows, so you can't open the curtains. Also no cooling, not even roof fan in the fierce heat, so had trouble sleeping. Definitely will not book there again.

Upon arrival the sugar pot was found to be dirty. There was also no tea/coffee/sugar in the unit. I indicated online and at check-in at reception that the unit should be serviced daily. Thursday the cleaners didn't arrive to service the unit until 2.30pm and my wife finished servicing the unit and we let the cleaner go. No one showed up on Friday. On Saturday, I had to stop the supervisor when he drove by in his bakkie and point out that the unit was not serviced on Friday and that the dish soap and toilet paper were finished. Two hours later the unit was then serviced and toilet paper and dish soap brought. Summary of accommodation. On Wednesday it was found that the substance kicked out the power. Was replaced on Thursday. No coffee/sugar/tea in units. Only one roll of toilet paper in unit. Some of the kitchenware was dirty (Sugar pot dirty with check-in). Service of units is sluggish and slow. It would appear that ATKV is only set on making money and not on service. The ATKV museum was also closed and unavailable. My wife's birthday was on Saturday and I put in a special request for a treat. It was done and I paid extra for it. A plant and chocolates were delivered on Saturday.
It was a warm cottage (no. 97), in the afternoons you can't read on the porch or kitchen or master bedroom because of direct western sun. Next to an important circle and street. Lots of people walking by, no privacy. Porch floors are very smooth. Fell but thankfully didn't break anything. Although there is a warning on it, they could stick something on the teals that prevents this. One looks into the kitchen and bedroom from the street. This inconvenience does not outweigh the amount we had to pay. A wall around the cottages would have helped a lot, canopy for shade etc. We were very disappointed. Payment transfer between the website and ATKV was pathetic. First experience was very poor - will not use the ATKV's accommodation again soon.
Not a proper window and no chairs to sit on. Very poor value for money! Very small tall window, have to stand on chair to look out. No easy chairs to sit on and enjoy coffee. At R2725 per night, at least you expect long life milk and not cremora. And at least 4 bags of coffee for 2 drinks. We really feel "ripped off".
The units are nice and central, modern and clean.
As a solo traveler, safe accommodation is very important, as well as being close to everything. The Seafront Lofts are perfect in every way.
Will always remain my favorite place. Everything was 100% clean with very friendly staff. Miss it already.
Was very nice but we got the wrong unit, had to get one with a balcony that I booked but ATKV at least returned the difference immediately and we still had a nice stay.
Accommodation is clean and tidy and well furnished. Beautiful view. Received much hospitality. I can only suggest putting a mirror in the closet near a power plug for the ladies.

As a family of 4, a 2 month old baby and a little girl who is almost 2, we enjoyed a lovely, comfortable break away. The location and the various activities located close to the accommodation are ideal for those who do not want to drive every day to get to the sea or other recreational facilities.

Apart from a bunch of contractor workers (who luckily were quiet) who also went to live there, it was very nice. Matrics/students were very noisy one night until 4 in the morning!

Seafrontlofts were fantastic, even though there is no sea view. It's perfectly located and we could walk everywhere and felt safe.
It is a very nice place to rest and relax. The location and view is great. There is an amusement park, shops and restaurants within walking distance. Unfortunately not a warm indoor swimming pool like at other ATKV resorts.

We made use of the rondavels which do not have attached bathrooms. The ablution blocks were neatly clean and the hot water sufficient. I only have to complain about the following: The beds' mattresses are not sufficient for adults because we slept terribly uncomfortably, you put the mattresses through. I would also suggest that the ATKV feel free to refurbish their linen a bit as it is very faded and even damaged.
The unit's television and air-con did not work. Both remotes needed batteries. But the unit was so beautiful and the view was of the best, so the TV didn't bother us. I will book another 6 bed sea view home again. It's worth every penny.

The place was very nice and suitable for our needs, I would have liked to stay longer! I was just unhappy about the fact that they asked for an admin fee which I didn't see on the website when we booked.
We were in rondavel 75. It was a short distance from the ablution facilities. There were also many thorns growing in and around our spot. There is an administration fee charged with all bookings, but access to the fun park is free.
Assumed house would be on edge of river bank. Couldn't sleep peacefully due to youth team camping nearby and making noise all night, tampering with vehicle and causing damage themselves. Even we come knocking in the morning hours.
Accommodation was neat and clean, one duvet had a blood spot on it. Pillows and mattresses are very hard. Overall it was a comfortable overnight stay.
Although the stay was pleasant and the vouchers/facilities were great, I could not attend to my business activities due to the Wi-Fi not working. I mentioned it to the office when I checked out, but I would like to bring this to your attention as well. Other than that we had a great time.
Service was satisfactory. Would have liked more information on the location of our stay. No one informed us that we would not have a sea view and if we wanted one what it would cost us. So we did not enjoy or expect to be in a back alley even after the school holidays. We felt we could have just stayed home for the 4 days.
Firstly, my deposit was received late so I couldn't get the place I wanted. The TV's remote was broken and the standards of the houses had weakened a bit. It was calm and quiet, but they could improve a bit in the rondavel.
Accommodation was affordable when compared to the cost of holiday places for the same period in the area and within walking distance of everything needed to enjoy a holiday.
This has been a good break away from the normal life, because for nearly five years my family and I could not go on holiday or spend time away from home. The last time we knew what holidays was, was when my son was 2 years old when we spent time in Montagu and when just he turned 4 we had to go on holiday to George, but could not because he fell sick and was then diagnosed with cancer. This was a full 3 and half years and then open heart surgery. That this was our very first break away from home and the best ever. Thank you for making our stay memorable, and to the staff for very friendly service from the time we pulled up until we left.

- Own swimming towels and dishcloths must be provided. - No music is permitted at the resort from motor vehicles or private sound systems/equipment. Please consider the other guests by keeping noise levels at a minimum. Should we receive any complaints at any time regarding loud music or behaviour, you will be requested to behave appropriately. Failure or refusal to adhere to the rules and values of the ATKV may result in you being asked to vacate the resort and you will not be entitled to any refunds.
