206 guests' feedbackBeautiful location and views. Dinner was excellent. Would love to come back and do a self-catering break with friends.
Our family of four had an amazing stay at Avoca. From friendly Albert who received us, to the peaceful farm atmosphere and neat little house! The pool and playground for the younger one was a bonus.
Avoca River Cabins is an absolute hidden gem. We loved our stay and will definitely be back.
It is very beautiful and peaceful at Avoca.

Lovely log cabin set in a beautiful garden. We were fortunate to have lovely neighbours to share the communal kitchen with. Well equipped as far as cutlery, crockery and appliances was concerned but a 2nd table with chairs would be an improvement. The outdoor furniture is too heavy to move so as to sit around the fire when braaing. A set of plastic chairs in each cottage would be a great addition. We loved the cottage.
Quiet, beautiful and friendly service. We love the personal information shared in the brochure about the growth of the place over the years. Beautiful garden.
Thank you very much, everything was perfect, very nice stay, will definitely recommend to friends and family.
Thank you, we really enjoyed it. Nice and quiet.
Reception was warm and pleasant. Very nice stay.
We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful environment with a well-equipped apartment.
Peaceful stay and enjoy the stay.
Very nice stay, very quiet and peaceful.
It's the most perfect place to relax and forget about the busy life. Quiet, feels safe, comfortable and private. The service provided was excellent and we will definitely recommend the amazing place to people and will go back again soon.
Enjoyed very much we were impressed.
Was wonderful. So peaceful.
We had a great stay, thank you.
Our stay was absolutely amazing. Being out in nature with privacy and luxury - I was very impressed all round. Thank you for hosting us.
Yes, it was very nice! The only small problem we had was that bees flew into the cottage and died at the windows. When we got there there were like 20 dead bees, but we just swept them away. We tried to close all the windows to stop them from coming in, but they seem to be coming in through that 'tornado' thing on the roof.
Absolutely beautiful picturesque. A perfect place to enjoy the nature with a river view from the cabin. The sound of the water in the river and the birds chirping in the morning made it perfect.
Fantastic, we loved every moment!
Very nice stay, very nice place and well looked after. Any positive criticism I can make is that the reeds at the Bush Cabins' river could be cleaned to be able to 'fish'; it will make the Bush Camp that much more appealing. All available space is at Rivier Deck and it's a bit small for everyone.
A beautiful farm right on the banks of the river. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed. This is a great option for visiting Addo and offers far better value than the accommodation within the park itself. The Addo main gate is a 15-minute drive away.
Place is beautiful, the stop and goes are a killer.
We stayed at Avoca River Cabins for one night on our way home from December vacation. The accommodation was very neat in the forest and we had a really nice stay. We would definitely stay again if given the opportunity and good value for money.
Worth it for sure. Was surprised at the value for money. Very nice unit. Everything one needs. Cute kids play area and the pool was a bonus. We had a very nice stay. Will definitely book there again.
Clean, neat and very comfortable. Everything is as advertised and the environment is a bonus.
Upper beds could not be slept on, and had to put the mattresses on the ground for the children. No power in the loft. No way to use the grid without having to figure something out yourself, and no grid either.
We had a great stay in River Chalet 2. There was a problem with water, but the host was very considerate and apologetic. We even got free breakfast. The location is beautiful and very peaceful. The chalets are cute and acceptably equipped. You can enjoy cycling on the farm in the area. If you're visiting Addo, keep in mind the stop-and-go between Avoca and Addo.
It was an incredible experience of tranquility and quality time with friends/family around the fire. Definitely a winning option.
Delicious. Beautiful scenery. Wish I could stay longer.
Very nice stay. Come again.
Very friendly staff and peaceful surroundings by the river.
We did not stay in the cottage where we were booked, but were upgraded to the castle. It was very beautiful and pleasant. They might only provide a braai dish, and there were only cups, coffee mugs and plates for 2 people.
Stay was good, the only thing I'd recommend is for the tea and coffee to be at the cabins on arrival, not us having to fetch them. Also, the ironing situation is not ideal; having to go iron at the facility laundry room is an inconvenience. Maybe let guests sign for the iron and return it when checking out.
Relaxing and interesting area to explore.
The reception by the host was very professional and friendly. We had a very nice stay. The gardens are fantastic and create a fantastic atmosphere.
Had such a nice stay! Was a very good experience. Will recommend for sure.
The accommodation was nice with everything one needs for a nice break. The staff were friendly and the big screen WRC2023 final was an added bonus.
Cabins have everything you will need. Very friendly and helpful service from Riaan.
Beautiful, peaceful and safe.
It was very nice, place was nice and clean, very quiet, made us feel welcome.
Cleanliness was great. Friendly workers on duty.
Was a lovely break. Will definitely stay a little longer next time. Reception was friendly and helpful. Thank you very much for our plants, we really appreciate it!
Avoca was the perfect choice for our Addo holiday with small children. The cottages and gardens are beautiful. The children really enjoyed the space, lawns, climbing frame and zipline in front of the River Cabin. We (the parents) enjoyed the beautiful river view and atmosphere. Although a short drive from Addo park/gate (not too far) it is a good river/citrus farm experience to combine with the Addo forest atmosphere. Very good value for money.
We will definitely come again!
Very nice environment. Well equipped for the whole family and children.
Warmly welcome. Beautiful accommodation with everything you need. We were upgraded to a chalet. Plus point was the light at the braai. Most beautiful birds, plants and roses. Could pick lemons for free.
Very friendly, professional welcome, and lovely cottages. Great birdlife and setting along the river.
You were very nice, I will come next time in the summer. Was just a little cold.
We stayed in the Treetop Cottage and it really felt like we were high up in the trees as you looked down on the river and the woods below the deck. The accommodation offers everything needed for a comfortable self-catering holiday. We didn't even know about load shedding because there is a generator that switched without us being aware of it. It's about half an hour's drive from Addo Elephant Park's main entrance gate - all tarmac. The manager and owners are very friendly and make an effort to make you feel at home. Will definitely visit again!
Wonderful, peaceful place to spend the night.
The accommodation was clean and had all the basic necessities. The kitchen was well equipped. The staff was super friendly.
Accommodation was very neat and clean. Also nice and private. Children caught very nice fish. All that was missing was a corkscrew.
Good accommodation as a base for visiting Addo National Park. The chalet was neat and equipped with the necessary. We enjoyed the view from No. 4, as well as the private braai place. Our reception was friendly and the free lemons were a nice touch. Can also recommend the orange wood offered for sale.
Most beautiful view. Have a nice barbecue and visit. Children really enjoyed picking lemons.
Good quality accommodation at an affordable price. Perfect for people who wish to visit Addo.
Everything was beautiful, however it was very difficult to carry all our luggage down a very steep path with stairs to the Cabins. I would suggest having someone available, especially for older guests, to be of assistance.
It's very very beautiful. We enjoyed it very much. Avoca River Cabins still needs a jet for fishing. All that was awkward is people wanting to row a boat and people wanting to fish on the one jet.
The castle has a nice view over the landscapes and the river that runs below.
Lovely, peaceful getaway to get enough rest in quiet, beautiful surroundings.
We felt very welcome and had a walk in the gorgeous gardens. Felt very safe and it was very luxurious. Everything was very clean and tastefully decorated. We loved our stay. Thank you.
Avoca is positioned alongside the Sundays River and is close enough to Addo to work. We liked the spacious Gymnogene, and loved the Siamese cat that befriended us. A beautiful garden, a pool, good security and helpful hosts all made our stay very good.
Our stay was lovely and even more amazing as we were upgraded to the tree house cabins without paying more. The view was great and the facilities very luxurious and convenient.
The wooden houses are beautiful, clean and tidy and we had a great time. Thank you very much.
We only stayed for 2 nights as we wanted to use Avoca as a base to enter Addo. We will however return to spend more time to enjoy the offerings of Avoca.
Friendly staff. Beautiful setting. Privacy.
When we arrived at Avoca, Judy made us feel so at home, as if we were the only guests. We were upgraded to the Fish Eagle Cottage! What an experience! The vegetation, which Judy planted, the river and the surroundings, all contributed to our paradise experience! Well done to you, Judy, her husband and Tracy, you have a winning destiny!
Friendly welcome and service. Very quiet environment, safe and tidy. Nice breakfast. Would recommend to anyone and would stay there again.
Stay was short but money was totally worth it. Very happy with the service.
Very good location and lovely atmosphere.
Best spot after a team building session, was on the deck at the Treetops cabin (has a built in bar). Also spent time in the pool which was like heaven on that 38°hot day. Thank you Tanya for your excellent welcome.
Absolutely fantastic. Wash good for the soul.
This was a wonderful experience. The advertising is true. Avoca Cabins is an absolutely beautiful setting. Our only gripe was that the rooms were a bit musty from being closed. Also, a broom in each cabin would be nice. The room was clean but you walk some grass in and then have nothing to sweep it up.
Avoca is a very beautiful place. If you want a quiet, neat and comfortable place Avoca is the place to stay.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Location is on point. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a rustic stay away from busy city life.
After a lovely day at Addo Elephant Park we stayed at Avoca River Cabins in the Castle for 1 night and it was lovely. Very friendly service on arrival and the accommodation is very neat and clean with everything you need. A beautiful, well-equipped kitchen, very neat and modern bathroom, and lovely large bedrooms. We were sorry when we had to leave this peaceful farm atmosphere the next morning and would love to visit again.
The two cottages are ideal for 2 families with shared kitchen and braai area. Greeted by osprey and very beautiful sunset.
Owners very friendly and helpful. Beautiful view of the river, The stairs to cabins need attention. The bathroom and toilet facilities are also not up to standard. The chairs on the porches are also not up to standard. The bedside lamps' bulbs did not work.
Riaan, Wayne winners. Owners dignified and friendly.

Little time spent at Avoca and basically only used as a sleepover. Sports weekend in Uitenhage. Customer service and reception very good. Location also good and even with the riots near Kirkwood we didn't feel unsafe at all. However, the unit we stayed in (Heron) is a little out of whack with the rest of the property, especially the beautiful gardens. Some of our towels did not smell very fresh and the unit could have been a bit cleaner. However, the manager said that they had problems getting enough staff to clean due to the riots in the area.
Cute place with a lot of potential. Good for head shutdown. Had some problems. Fridge, kettle and microwave did not work. Difficulty getting hold of management on two different cell numbers. We came across the trip switch behind the unit ourselves. Manager arrived later that evening to fix problem. Kitchen needs serious revamp. Added to that, the bedding was deliciously crisp.
The cabins are all located against the river. The gardens are beautifully looked after and there is a lovely playground for children under 12. The interior decoration is picture perfect. Some of the linen already looks a bit tired, e.g. towels and tea towel. There was e.g. no washcloth at the sink. During load shedding, the generator was very handy. There was no shower soap and we had to trip the 40 km round trip to the nearest shop. No clothes hangers in the closet either. It's quite funny that there are no basic products like milk for sale on the farm. We arrived on a Sunday evening - no restaurants open and the nearest shop was 20 km away.

It is beautifully located and 5 star accommodation.
Well equipped, tidy and safe with beautiful gardens along the Sondagsrivier. Really enjoyed our stay!
Everything was perfect. Would highly recommend the guest farm to anyone. We wanted a place to sleep near the Addo Elephant Park. The location among the citrus groves was perfectly located. We were warmly received and stayed in the Castle. The breakfast was also very nice. Close enough to the Addo park. Highly recommend it especially for people with children. Thank you for your extremely professional service.
The cabins were neat and tasteful. It was a really good choice. Would love to come again and definitely stay longer. Would definitely recommend it.
We were 5 in total. 4 adults and a toddler. The cabin was comfortable and had everything we needed. The area is beautiful and we got to pick some fresh lemons off the trees. Riaan was super friendly and helpful.
Safe peaceful atmosphere.
Reception was friendly and helpful.
Jacky is wonderfully helpful.
In a tranquil and interesting setting an ideal choice for a stopover or a long restful break. The service was welcoming and hospitable and travel advice useful. The breakfast served at the main house was tops. The cottage was comfortable although the upstairs loft is a bit of a tight squeeze for an adult. We were very impressed with the Sundays River valley area which we saw as a breath of hope in South Africa.
From the first minutes we set foot ashore, to our journey back home was phenomenal. The hospitality of everyone, especially with our young children, was excellent. You can see they are people-people and you don't get that often. The food was top notch!
It was very nice.
Quiet and peaceful. Everything was perfect. Will definitely visit Avoca again.
Rooms are comfortable and clean, tidy. Stove was old and could not be used easily. Location is good and reception was very warm and friendly.
Would highly recommend the place!
Conveniently close to Addo Elephant Park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners/hosts are very friendly and helpful.
A perfect place to stay if you want to visit Addo Elephant Park and to relax.
It's the perfect place to go for a quick getaway. Most beautiful view, place to stay is nice and comfortable.
Avoca River Cabins is the ideal place for a peaceful weekend break or holiday with your family or just as a couple.
Highly recommended. Thanks so much.
Great location. Place is well maintained but I do think the bathroom and kitchen needs a bit of an upgrade.
Very small kitchenette well equipped. No hairdryer, complimentary toiletries, coffee, tea, sugar and milk. Guests should know to take it with them, as well as fireware for braai.
Will definitely visit again.

We were kindly welcomed, cottage very neat and clean. This was our 2nd visit and we will definitely be back.
It's a very peaceful place where you can relax and just forget about everything.
We couldn't stay up late one morning. The spray planes spread insecticides over orange groves. It started early. The host did not warn us ahead of time that it was on the farm's program. I understand that a farm's activities continue. What if we were allergic to the spray? When I mentioned it as we were leaving, not even a sorry was said. I really think they acted a bit unprofessional. Please remember in continuation to better communicate with guests. The floors of the log house crack tremendously. If someone walks in the night, you hear it. Only warm bedding was provided. Then you get too hot when you close up, and then cold again when you open up at night. I really think guesthouses should cater for the specific season when it comes to bedding.
We enjoyed every moment of the weekend, from the amazing view, clean rooms, well kept gardens, kitchen area, friendly staff and amazing orchards.
Avoca exceeded all expectations. The location on the river bank is breathtakingly beautiful, not to mention the beautiful gardens. Dinner was 5 star. We felt very safe, could have a nice walk on the farm and really rested. There are many activities for children. A beautiful swimming pool, playground and trampoline. It's also near Addo Elephant Park. We definitely want to visit Avoca again.
Very warm welcome. The people were willing to receive us one day earlier. They even gave us a better place to stay than the reservation. We would definitely recommend this place. Lovely, peaceful and very beautiful. It's also not far from Addo Elephant Park.
I definitely recommend Avoca. Very nice people who work there.
Klein paradys! Bestuur het uit hul pad gegaan om na ons behoeftes om te sien. Alles so netjies - die tuine is asemrowend mooi. Julle kry 10 sterre by ons.
Would recommend Avoca to anyone needing a getaway. Value for money and highly worth it.
The gardens are neat and the pool as well as the area around the pool was clean.
Always nice place to go for holiday with your family.
The place is beautiful and the hosts are warm and welcoming. I was a bit disappointed with the hot breakfast though. For R90 a head I expected a really full plate with sausage and mushrooms, but had only egg and bacon and toast. Really disappointing. If they can improve on their hot breakfast then this will be really a perfect place.
Excellent getaway with young children! The play area is ideally located close to the cabins.
Lovely accommodation with a safe playground for children.
The place is nice and neat, my kids really enjoy our stay.
We received a very good reception from Nadine. The breakfast was also very nice.
Nice stopover for a night or two.
No coffee and milk in room. Otherwise comfortable.
The environment is magnificent: beautiful garden, quiet location. However, we were all disappointed with the quality of the accommodation! There is only a mini fridge, which is not enough for 4 adults. We had the 4 chalets with the 4 mini fridges. One worked from time to time and the others did not close. The dishes are basic. In one of the chalets there are camping dishes. The water is brown when it arrives. One of the chalets did not have cold tap water: very annoying for doing the dishes. Cleanliness is to be reviewed. We had to scour pots, pans, cutlery. The water did not drain very well in one of the water rooms, which were also very narrow. If you’re a little wrapped up, I don’t think you can get in. The 3 other place we stayed were sometimes cheaper, and were much cleaner and comfortable. I do not recommend this accommodation, at least the 4 chalets the river.
The potential of the place is very good, but it lacks some essential things. Then the traveler can have an even more enjoyable experience. First, we had to take all the luggage down slopes ourselves and walk up and down to get our stuff. A little help with bags can go a long way. Necessary items such as soap, double-layered toilet paper and enough hand soap in the bathroom were absent. Towels have also had their best days. There was a basket of fruit, but the broken basket does not look good. In the little kitchen there wasn't even salt, pepper pots, a bottle opener or coffee or tea. At least it's very basic stuff! If there was a power cut, there wasn't even a candle or matches. We had to go up and down several times to collect such essentials in our car. Pay a little attention to such extras and your place is a paradise!
This was a perfect stay. Very pretty place with good staff. Braai and self-catering area was very good. Breakfast was tops at R85 a head extra.
Probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed with my wife! Clean, tidy and safe. The manager / owner gave us so much information and suggestions regarding routes and the Addo Park given. Very satisfied!
Amazing place, just want to go back. So incredibly beautiful and peaceful and the kids love to go there. Definitely a favourite place.
Very enjoyable week and everything was as expected.
The location is excellent and the effort made to establish the garden is commendable.
We had a wonderful stay, quiet, peaceful, beautiful surroundings. We were received very kindly, wish we could have stayed longer! Everything from the accommodation, gardens and swimming pool is neatly taken care of.
A cheaper option than to stay in the park itself. Close enough that you can drive in and out. Accommodation is clean and the people are friendly. Would definitely stay there again!
Very affordable and near Addo. Stunning next to the river and very neat accommodation.
Great views and locations.
Wonderful visit in lovely surroundings. Nice swimming pool and playground for children.
Netjes en leuk voor kinderen. Het is een half uur rijden naar de hoofdingang. Was prima te doen. Het is inclusief kanohuur. Is ook leuk om een leguaan te bekijken die er zwemt. Geen krokodil.
Very neat and clean. We stayed well with everything we needed in the kitchen. Would definitely recommend it.
Friendly and warm welcome. Lovely, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere with the beauty of the valley and smell of citrus fruit in the air! Clean, neat accommodation, can strongly recommend it.
Very neat, quiet place, would just recommend getting a trolley for luggage as it will help if you carry your luggage to the units that are quite far from where you parked. Other than that, a very nice and friendly owner and manager. Thank you.
We stayed 3 nights at the Avoca River Cabins and thoroughly enjoyed it. The interior of the houses is super elegant - beautiful furniture, good mattresses/bedding, well-equipped kitchen and good showers. The grounds are no less elegant, with immaculate lawns, palm trees and an abundance of flowers. There are two swimming pools and two play grounds (at the reception and down by the river), which means the kids have a great time no matter where you stay. We also really enjoyed the complementary use of the canoes. We brought our bicycles and the citrus farm proved to be the perfect (flat and car-fee) space for our kids to practise their cycling. We hope to be back and have already recommended the place to friends.
Will definitely recommend Avoca. Next to the river, quiet, beautiful, was surprised when we drove through the gates.
Accommodation is clean and neat. Everything you need. Beautiful gardens. Has a view over the river. It's quiet during the week, but since it's a family resort, there are kids playing around.
A bit remote and hard to find. Coordinates don't work. Other than that, no problem. People friendly and place very tidy.
Very nice place to sleep if you want to drive around the Addo for 2 days. Will definitely stay there again.
We had a great time in Bush Camp 1 and 2. The cottages are small but comfortably furnished and the kitchen has everything you need. We had very good weather while we were here, one might be a little more uncomfortable if you can't barbecue under the stars. Two families each with 2 adult children stayed in a cottage, and that was sufficient. Maybe it would have become a little cramped if we had stayed longer, but with smaller children it wouldn't be a problem.
I wish we could have spent more time at Avoca, but the little time we did spend there was so relaxing. The river water that was running all the time had a calming effect on me. We as a family had a great time on the deck and had a barbecue. The facilities were adequate and we will definitely want to relax there again sometime.
We had a nice stay, I would only change or add a few small practical things for our wives especially. Rack in shower to put your things on. Hanging space and hangers for clothes. Mirror cabinet/table with mirror and power plug for hair blowing and makeup.
We stayed at Avoca for two nights and were spoiled. The staff are all welcoming and friendly and willing to go out of their way to make the experience as special as possible. Neat, beautiful and convenient. Will definitely want to go again.
A cosy and beautiful place to spend the night. The location is very beautiful. The use of the shared kitchen means that you have nice contact with other people. The plumbing needs something here and there. Breakfast is great, staff very friendly and helpful.
Friendly people. Too bad the drain was blocked, we couldn't open the bathroom window.
One of our very best getaways ever with scenic beauty for the eye. The quiet and well-kept gardens and endless beautiful views of citrus orchards.
Excellent location on the river. Staff very helpful and friendly on arrival. We stayed in Gymnogene near the main house above the river, beautiful setting. The cabin was clean and a nice size and we loved the outside shower. However we found the kitchen area rather small and difficult to function, the utensils need to be upgraded, also some small maintenance issues, globes on 2 of the outside lights not working as well as the one bedside lamp, both the shower outlets need to be replaced and the sliding doors as well as the security doors need a service, very difficult to open. The air conditioning system not cooling, maybe also needs a service. However, we enjoyed our stay.
The accommodation was very nice. Breakfast meager for the price compared to other accommodation of the same price. The environment is beautiful and the children enjoyed it very much.
5 Star in all respects in a very beautiful setting.
We stayed there for 3 nights and had 2 chalets as our son, his wife and 4 year old boy from England were with us. The beds were the highlight for me and we slept so well. It is near Addo and we went into the wildlife park for 2 days and saw many animals. We had a nice barbecue and the stay was also a highlight for the children from England. Very friendly reception and they give all the information about the area on arrival. We would have liked it only if they had let us know in advance that there is no coffee or tea in the cottages. One got used to it being there and had to drive and go and buy it. Other than that, just very nice.
It's clean, everything you need. Will definitely recommend it!
Beautiful peaceful setting. Vanessa is a warm friendly hostess that goes the extra mile to serve her guests and is really an asset to Avoca River Cabins. We really enjoyed our stay, and will definitely recommend Avoca to family and friends.
Beautiful garden greeted us after two weeks of touring the karoo. Neat, clean. The communal kitchen 20 meters from our room was inconvenient, but maybe I didn't read correctly beforehand. Good value for money.
We were so surprised with how beautiful Avoca River Cabins and the whole area is! We really enjoyed our stay!
Good service for reservations and meals, friendly and clear reception. The location of the accommodation is beautiful on the river, clean and good.
What a beautiful place! It's neat and well equipped. It is wonderfully peaceful and absolutely beautiful. The eateries in the area are close by and make fantastic food. Addo Elephant Park's gate is only a 20 minute drive (at most) from Avoca. Would definitely like to stay over again and then for more than one night!
An amazing self-catering cabin in the most beautiful gardens on the Sunday River in Addo. Just the place to stay if you want to visit Addo Elephant Park. Have a swim after a visit and do a great braai on river's edge.
What a gem amongst the citrus orchards. From arrival to departure the staff were helpful.
The only problem was that the beds upstairs and the wooden floor makes a lot of noise, so when the children make a move, the whole house is noisy.
Avoca provided us with lovely accommodation during our visit to Addo Elephant Park. The Tree Top Cottage was perfect for our family, tastefully furnished, with everything you need. Convenient distance from the national park and a nice deck with braai facilities to end the day on. The use of the pool and lovely gardens with play area was a bonus on some very hot days. We would definitely recommend Avoca and would love to stay there again if we go to Addo again.
Service was great, bird life was fantastic and a fantastic view. The simplicity of the bush camping facilities were exceptional.
A quiet, beautiful place and everything we needed was available.
Tracey's room is a lovely unit with a luxurious bathroom and large bed. However, if the owners are at home you can sometimes hear them from your room which isn't ideal and probably means they can hear you. The property is gorgeous, with sweeping views of the vineyards and a large pool perfect for relaxing. We brought our own food for our short stay but next time we will try out the dinner or breakfast offered (at an additional cost) as it smelt delicious. Overall great value for money.
Avoca is ideally located if you want to go into Addo for a day trip. We had a very nice stay here. The gardens are so beautifully maintained and are something to experience. There's plenty to do here to keep the little ones busy all day, from a playground to a swimming pool. We would definitely recommend Avoca.
Peaceful and quiet along the Sundays River. Beautiful views and wildlife.
It was our first visit to the area and it was a pleasant few days there. The lush green of the citrus trees and the flower bushes along the roads was a beautiful sight and would like to see the trees covered with fruit. Avoca was a good choice - spacious room and very comfortable with air conditioning (was very hot!) and small kitchen area. We booked Gymnogene and the view from the balcony over the river and farms is exceptional.
Beautiful surrounds. Lovely play area for the kids.
The lodge itself might need some maintenance, but we did not bother and it was clean and functional and it looks romantic in a great environment. One night we had dinner at the on site restaurant, every day a standard menu, which was nice and value for money.
We've enjoyed the area and peaceful surroundings. The staff is friendly and it is definitely a lovely place for young children. The garden is really beautiful!
Beautiful gardens. Nice for fishing and family time and nice close to Addo park.
Maybe a recommendation. Uncle Toni rooms. Air-con would have helped a lot. Rooms very hot and roof fan not much help.
The gardens are beautiful. A real paradise. There are a few cons: The bathroom of the unit we were in was very small. The living area was a little tight. The biggest drawback of this resort is that they don't serve dinner over weekends. We had to drive 23 km to Kirkwood to find out that all of the restaurants aren't open and only opens at certain times. 19 km in the other direction there aren't any restaurants either.
Didn't feel safe with small children because open pool and cliff where lawn ends.
Both my partner and I were disgusted with the shower - one of the worst we've ever had. The access to the cabin for the elderly is almost impossible and extremely dangerous. Very steep and hard to handle.
The rooms are very neat and the view is breathtakingly beautiful. The breakfast was delicious. My husband can't stop talking about it. Thank you very much.
We really enjoyed it. Very central to everything we wanted to experience from Addo, Zipline, Kagga Kamma, Sunday river Ferry, VW museum, Walk with Cheetahs etc etc. Very friendly welcome and good food especially the soup and breakfast.
Stayed in one of the Bush camps. All that is needed is a shower mat, coffee and sugar if you forgot them at home and a new grill. Place was neat and clean with very nice hot water.
We slept in the Castle, a romantic place to stay. The living room room is also the hall.
Had a great time. Thank you very much.
Clean, neat and very relaxing. The accommodation we stayed at had uncomfortable stairs for people with back of leg problems. Vanessa went out of her way to accommodate us and is definitely an asset for Avoca.
We had a good rest!
Enjoyed the stay. Definitely going back.
We really enjoyed it and it is close to the Addo Elephant Park. There's no TV in case it is important and a dishcloth would have been convenient for the dishes.
Car quite far from Cabin. Slept well.
The kids enjoyed fishing by the river and also the big play area. Deck by the cabin where you can enjoy the sunset. Boma braai area, where we looked at the stars and the moon. Will definitely visit again on our way back from the beach.
So easy to lose track of time on the patio of the "castle" with a view that makes you feel like you're in the Boland. Avoca is a beautiful area where you can find yourself again, such a wonderful escape from the city noise.
The location by the Sondags River is really a little diamond in the valley. Beautiful view. Lovely service providers. Their indoor restaurant is priced a little above average, but it's really beautiful and is one of the few decent places to eat in a 50 km radius. We didn't like the red wine. The food was delicious.
Friendly service and reception, room (Gymnogene) was well furnished as such but bathroom very small, difficult to reach with luggage, lighting could be improved and if a woman is with you there is no place for her to do make-up by mirror and light. Still a safe, peaceful place to spend the night, I wouldn't stay more than a day. However, my experience was better than worse and can be recommended, I am very critical.
Already our second visit, about 25 minutes from Addo Elephant Park. Very reasonably priced and can recommend. Lovely gardens and walking trails, maintenance and cleanliness could improve.
Restaurant the Lookout in de buurt aanrader, waw, what a view!
We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stopover at Avoca. We loved the outdoor communal kitchen but if anything would ask for complimentary coffee/tea/sugar/milk to be offered as we were only there for one night and did not have this with us. A traveller could really use a cup of coffee after a day's travels! Other than that we had absolutely no criticism of Avoca. Tracey went out of her way to make a birthday cake for my son who celebrated his 6th birthday - the cake was delicious! We will definitely visit again if we are in the area.
Conveniently close to the Addo National Park, so we could enjoy a full day in Addo and sleep nearby before returning home.
Fun for the kids. Peaceful experience between all the trees, the running stream and then the pool around which you can read a book or just relax. There is so much to do.
It was fantastic. People were friendly and we felt very much at home. The only thing I can say is that they should let people know that the water is not drinkable. Let people know to bring their own bottle of water with. Otherwise nothing, it is an awesome place to stay at.
Beautiful location. Convenient to Addo.
Apart from the bad water pressure in the bathroom the unit was suitable. We only stayed one night, but the units are ideal for people who want to stay outside the park and just drive in daily. There are also many outdoor activities available and it is a very beautiful area.
The room smelled musty and was very stuffy. There was no kettle and crockery to make coffee or tea. It was available in the main house, but it was a long walk in the rain and you don't want to disturb other people in the house early in the morning.
