73 guests' feedbackWe were travelling between Pretoria and Cape Town, and stopped over for 1 night. Absolute value for money. Braai packs of Karoo lamb chops and lamb wors were arranged prior to our trip. Was able to buy Karoo lamb, biltong, wine, etc. from the little shop on site. Had a fantastic sleep as the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very well decorated and had a good hot shower prior to travelling further on our journey. Would absolutely recommend a stopover if you are in the area.
The rooms look exactly like the photos, there is a climbing frame for the children, beautiful boma and braai facilities and a farm shop where you can buy the most delicious lamb meat. In the Karoo, beautiful fields and a large hunting farm for those who fancy such a thing.
We arrived late at night and were very kindly received by Lizelle, our hostess. Our room was neat, clean and tastefully decorated. After a nice hot shower, we quickly fell asleep in a very comfortable and clean bed. The next morning we enjoyed a healthy "Boere Brekfis" before hitting the road again. We would definitely recommend Baakensrug Holiday Farm as an excellent and safe overnight stop on the way to Cape Town.
The most beautiful beauty of the Karoo summarized in exquisite, breathtaking accommodation with the convenience of a small shop! Roland and Lizelle went out of their way to make us feel very welcome and keep the lights on during load shedding.
The friendly staff and hospitality immediately make you feel welcome. Freshly baked bread and farm breakfast is a winner. The dirt road is long but leads to an oasis.
We really enjoyed the peaceful farm environment and the hospitality of Lizelle and Roland. The accommodation is very nice and comfortable. The farm lamb and farm breakfast from the top shelves. We will definitely book again at Baakensrug Holiday Farm.
When arriving at the farm we were pleasantly surprised by the welcoming of the staff and the splendour of the farm. The rooms were beautifully set up and even though it was a hunters' house, it was elegantly furnished and styled. Here you can breathe, you can receive the quiet nature and be at peace. This farm is definitely a place worth driving the dirt road.
Thanks for the hospitality, we slept well and rested before we had to drive on.
Amazing. Quiet. Karoo lamb.
Most beautiful and luxurious overnight rooms, everything was clean and tidy! We were received very kindly and the staff is very helpful. It was truly worth the drive on the dirt road. The lamb was fantastic!
We had a very nice stay.
Very nice and really great service. About 15-20 km dirt road in the heart of the Karoo. Road is beautiful. If you want to get away from it all and just relax, perfect.
Peaceful atmosphere and well furnished. Will definitely go again.
Facilities are great. We were received courteously and enjoyed the visit. Thank you very much.
Friendly service and helpful staff.
We rented Sprinbok unit which sleeps 6 people. The unit was neat and spacious and very clean. The unit is connected to share facilities of a large equipped kitchen, dining room and lounge area which is shared with the other units. The room has a separate braai area that opens onto a lawn and provides access to nature. Most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There is also a small shop selling cookies and jam. We really enjoyed our time on Baakensrug.
It was worth every penny staying at Baakensrug Holiday Farm. The rooms are very clean and Lizelle was very accommodating.
Lizelle and her team are incredibly hospitable and make you feel at home immediately, beds are like a piece of heaven on earth. Delicious farmer's breakfast. Can recommend to anyone. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra few kilometers from the N1, you won't regret it at all.
Very pleasant experience, exceptional hospitality and experience for children.
Very great.
Unfortunately we had a plague of flies, but apart from that we had a great time.
The welcome was great, room and everything surrounding beautiful, nice and tidy. The delicious, freshly baked farm sandwich with reception a bonus. The pool (farm pond maybe more) was a bit green, but I suspect it was meant to be. It certainly helped with cooling down in the Karoo heat.
Baakensrug gives a typical farm experience with the necessary luxury. Very clean and tidy with everything you need.
Thank you for an enjoyable overnight. Perhaps a few more tables in various spots for dining since the lounge and kitchen are communal.
Upon arrival we were kindly welcomed by Lizelle. Our rooms were beautiful and she made an effort to give our boy an extra bed. The rooms and premises are incredibly beautiful. The little shop has the best meat and sausage, there is also ice cream, soft drinks and sweets for the children. We were given free toast upon arrival. The nature and animals on the farm were very special and the children really enjoyed the "dam" swimming pool. We will go back for sure! Very peaceful and beautiful.
Wonderful experience.
This will be our stopover en route from CPT to PTA going forward! Gorgeous gorgeous! Take into consideration that it is a farm in the middle of nowhere. So if you're a paranoid person, it might not be for you. It's quite a drive on the gravel road, but definitely worth it if you are a nature lover or want to skip out on staying in the busy town of Beaufort. We bought "skaapstertjies" already precooked and marinated and braaied them the night. It was delish! Real, Karoo farm hospitality. We will definitely return!
Load shedding, wifi signal challenging.
Friendly service made us feel at home. Was a bit further from the N1 than we expected, but still worth it.
Had a great time. Just think the distance from the tarmac and also the distance from the gate should be clearer. It's pretty far in from the gate. If one expects it, it takes the wonder of how much further out of the way. Other than that, I can't complain.
Slept over with my 2 daughters on the way to the Cape. What a wonderful experience. Thank you very much for your hospitality.
Bit far from the N1 but lovely nonetheless.
Terribly beautiful surroundings of the Karoo, guest house is very neat and new. Just a bit far from the N1 for 1 night's sleepover.
There was no transparency about how far out on the dirt road you had to drive. The flies outside of the unit were unbearable. We were unable to sit outside. The Wi-Fi did not reach the bedrooms.
Friendly service, beautiful and clean rooms.
From the moment we arrived, friendly staff was there to assist us with everything we needed. They even waited for us to come back from our walk to give the kids the opportunity to feed the lambs. We bought some lamb chops to braai in the evening, and it was delicious. The freshly baked bread with the braai was the cherry on the top. Loved our stay and will definitely be back soon!
We had a great stay, will definitely stay longer next time. Perfect Karoo experience, much more than just a stopover on the way to the Cape, has become part of the holiday. Would definitely recommend it.
Would love to go back again soon. Lizelle was so hospitable and made a lot of effort.
Had a wonderful stay, barbecued and watched the stars. We will see you again soon.
Lizelle was very accommodating and went out of her way to make us feel welcome.
Baakensrug is an unforgettable gem in the middle of the Karoo! Filled with hospitality, an exceptional hostess and the friendliest helpers! Would recommend this farm atmosphere hunter lodge anytime and we will definitely be visiting again soon! Freshly baked bread (filled with lots of love) as a welcome gift and their own butcher for everything you need! This special place should be at the very top of your "bucket" list!
Lovely place, will definitely come back again!
Is dirt road, but the road is in good condition. The people go out of their way to make it as comfortable and convenient for you as possible and are very friendly. Really recommend, house is spacious and clean. There is also a small shop where you can buy delicious venison biltong, dried sausage and meat, and quite a few other farm goods. The highlight was of course the fresh farm bread every morning - they know it!
Excellent accommodation for a good price. Truly a gem in the middle of the Karoo. Children helped give milk to hanslammers. Good place to watch the stars. The dirt road was further than expected.
Very neat. The road is just a little bad.
Accommodation is in a large house which is usually used for large groups during the hunting season. We were a family of 4 and Lizelle organized our own braai facilities for us. There was another family who had also slept over and they were busy on the other side of the big house. The little butcher shop is a perfect place to shop for your further holiday and I highly recommend their lamb sausage.
Perfect for large group. Comfortable and meat and fatty cakes from the top shelves.
Everything was good, only room cleaning could be better and farm food does not have chips. Portion for dinner can be bigger, because a man gets hungry from the fresh air. Self-catering facilities were good and sufficient.
The rooms and facilities were very pleasant and clean.
Thank you Lizelle, Roland and Anneke for your hospitality. Wonderful experience. Everything was fantastic.
Was very surprised how far it was from the main road, most of which was dirt road. Unfortunately the route indications on the website do not show this and something that needs to be added.
We had the best sleepover, it was so lovely to be so peaceful and so close to nature. Thank you very much for all the kindness and hospitality.
Lizelle and her husband were so kind and warmhearted. We received a platter with fresh, warm bread, biltong, jam and something to drink. Felt like family.
I immediately fell in love with the farm. The quiet and tranquility. Just what one needs to forget about the city. The freshly baked farm bun and butter was a nice touch. Enjoyed it so much. Thank you very much.
Had a great time. Thank you ladies for your generous welcome and delicious fresh farm bread.
Friendly service and wonderful to experience the tranquility of a Karoo farm. Delicious Carrot Joppies bought and fried.
The lodge lies like an oasis in the Karoo. Anneke received us kindly and proudly told us that as farm workers they had won several cups as the best team. We bought and grilled the most delicious lamb chops and freshly baked bread for dinner. There is everything you need for a pleasant rest and visit. Also the farm dam swimming pool was invigorating! Will stay there again for sure.
We loved it! Amazing farm with warm, friendly people! Safe and spacious! Food was out of this world! Loved everything!
This is the best travel stay we’ve ever experienced. The setting is stunning and the accommodation excellent value for money. We’ll be back!
We had a great time, everything was neat and clean. Very relaxed. Friendly hostess and servants. Baked bread was delicious. Knew exactly how to get there with accurate directions. Would definitely recommend it.
Friendly staff, and a lovely, quiet atmosphere. Great hospitality, like only farm folk can provide. Air conditioned rooms and spacious social areas.
So quiet and peaceful! A bit out of town, but definitely worth it!
Everything on Baakensrus is big. The rooms, the friendliness, the farm, the environment. Everything is spotless and there is nothing one needs more. Perfect place to rest and forget about the normal day to day existence.
We really enjoyed the visit and will stay there again.
We were greeted when we arrived with very friendly faces and service. Lovely room and beds. An extra mattress was brought in for our 2 year old. Beautiful farm and lovely to walk around and look at the sheep, goats and horses. Lovely pool to cool off in. Nice braai facilities and food. We will come again anytime.
Nice farm, friendly people with great service. We really enjoyed it and will definitely stay there again. Nice Karoo forest experience, not on the main road, so you can experience the silence of the Karoo forest.
Although the owners themselves were away on leave, we were received very professionally and very kindly by the staff who did their best to make our stay pleasant, (well done) and thank you. Everything needed was there. The children also enjoyed the farm. Would love to stay another day. Highly recommended.
The best place we've stayed at on the way to Cape Town. Lizelle and her team are great.
We spent one night on the farm on our way to Cape Town. It was exactly what we had in mind. The house is spacious and very tidy, the meal was delicious (barbeques) and the air conditioner in the room very welcome. There is very little air pollution and the stars were fantastic. I would definitely recommend it and would definitely stay there again, or even longer.
Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The braai suits were delicious and so were the side dishes. Had a great overnight stay for our trip to Cape Town.
True Great Karoo farm experience. Spacious house with all the amenities and a nice braai area. The braai packs and side dishes were also exceptional. Most important are probably the people - everyone is friendly, hospitable and goes out of their way to welcome you. Thanks to Lizelle and her team!
We really enjoyed the visit. The owners as well as the farm staff were helpful, friendly and their hospitality is top notch. We made use of their barbecue packages as well as the breakfast and it was tasty, plenty of food and value for money. The children really enjoyed the farm and were able to explore in a safe atmosphere. We will definitely stay there again.
It is a little too far off N1, on a dirt road, for an overnight stay. Better as a breakaway for stillness.
