Set in a beautiful tropical garden are 7 deluxe suites; 5 with thatched roofs. The suites are all very private with separate entrances, terraces or their own private deck. The Palm Suite has a balcony instead of a deck. All 7 suites have en-suite bathrooms with a bath or a shower or both, 4 suites have spa baths and 6 suites have fireplaces as well. The well appointed suites are equipped with bar fridges, overhead fans and coffee and tea making facilities. Toiletries are supplied.
Braai facilities are available at the suites or at the Thatched Lapa next to the Saltwater Rock Pool. There is a Guest Lounge as well as a fully equipped main kitchen available for the guests who want to self-cater. The TV lounge is equipped with a TV with full DStv access. The outside Jacuzzi under the trees and a salt-water rock pool are always popular in summer.
The property is close to good restaurants from fine dining to steakhouses or Italian. The popular fast food outlets as well as a local Spar and bottle store are just a short drive away.
Bali at Scenic Haven Lodge is within 15-20 minutes from 3 - 18 hole golf courses and 3 minutes from a lovely 9-hole golf course. The Cradle of Humankind with the Maropeng Centre is only 30 minutes away as well as the Sterkfontein Caves. There are 2 art galleries in Kosmos, and 3 galleries in Schoemansville. The largest African craft market and Welwitsha country market are around the corner. Bill Harrop’s and Discover Ballooning, both hot air ballooning companies, The Elephant and Monkey Sanctuary and the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre are nearby.
Sun City and Pilanesberg Game Park are only 90 km away. Margaret Roberts Herbal centre, the Van Gaalen cheese farm as well as a strawberry farm are 20 minutes away. Quad biking courses, horse riding, canopy tour in the Magaliesberg and ziplining in Broederstroom as well as hiking and mountain biking are all in the area.

135 guests' feedbackIt is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. Muad, Matthew & Porshe are the best, thank you guys! The only thing that was wrong is that the toilets don't have a door, otherwise everything is perfect.
It was fantastic. Bitterly beautiful. And so calm.
Great stay, awesome views and the massages were great.
Beautiful place! Best views! Friendly staff! I would definitely recommend the accommodation.
It was incredibly fun and I will definitely see them again. No one bothers you and you are on your own, the in and out of the gate is just a bit weak. I would recommend anyone to visit there, it was our wedding anniversary and what a wonderful weekend. Thanks to everyone.
Portia received us well on arrival, the place is a real gem in nature.
Bali at Scenic Haven was great!
We had a very nice stay, the fireplace and warm blanket were a plus.
Was a very pleasant experience, lots of entertainment in immediate vicinity with great restaurant in complex.
We had a great stay at Bali at Willinga Lodge, now "Scenic haven". The surroundings and vegetation are beautiful, with a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. The hot tub is definitely recommended!
Beautiful views, beautiful venue. Perfect for a romantic getaway. I would suggest getting proper fans, or air conditioners installed.
Was ok, only there at night, work trip. Not bad, good for what I needed.
Unit towels provided clean but in horrific condition. Definitely not for guests. No plates in unit and only provided on request. Pots and pans not thoroughly clean. Shower bit mouldy and need extreme cleanup.
Thought we would have our own private view and area. No privacy. It was not worth the money I spent. The place is right by the entrance leading to the other unit and communal kitchen, and there is no view. The plugs weren't able to be used for side lamps, as there were not enough plugs for an electric blanket and side lamps. It was very cold, and the floor was very cold beside the beds in winter. Could use a small carpet beside the beds. Very disappointed.
See stars.
Friendly, clean, located very central to most activities as well as shops.
They can just adjust the WiFi signal strength and add a bit of entertainment like a TV. But above anything, the place is very good.
This venue is great for a quick getaway from the city. The setting is beautiful, with stunning views and natural surroundings. The fireplace is a bonus! Some aspects require maintenance, such as the loft stairs and outside deck. But for the price, great value for money.
I would remove the fireplace from the room - after we used it the smell was unbearable in the unit. But for the bathroom, I would rate it 10 stars! Most enjoyable experience.
The photos are definitely misleading. There is a difference between antique furniture and old, dilapidated furniture. These were not antiques. The old industrial carpets are dusty. The bedding was old and discolored. The bed was covered with quilt, so you only see the condition of the linen when you open the bed. The toilet has no door, so it's not private. The coffee, sugar and milk were not in sealed containers. It was poured out of containers into plastic bowls and milk bottles. How will you know if someone hasn't already drunk half the bottle of milk? I was very disappointed in the place. For the rate, the owner could really upgrade a bit.
Debatable. Negative points reasons are as follows: 1. Cleaner/gardener does the reception. 2. No television in rooms (although advertised). 3. No internet the entire stay period (although advertised). 4. Broken boiler. Replaced it after I brought it to their attention. No power point near boiler. Had to carry kettle around to power points to boil water. 5. Refrigerator was only on when we arrived during this heatwave period. Fridge was blazing hot. 6. Roof fan not working. Did have a pedastal fan. 7. Access once and never again. The number to dial keeps saying "number does not exist". 8. One small jacuzzi to serve all the people there. Jacuzzi dirty and water not changed. One will pick up diseases. POSITIVE POINTS: 1. Unit clean and tidy. 2. Linen clean and tidy.
The owners are such lovely welcoming people. Excellent customer care. I wouldn't mind visiting the lodge for a retreat once or twice a year.
The accommodation was very well furnished and I can definitely recommend it. I will only mention that the two plate stove was very dirty and we had to wash some of the dishes ourselves before we could use them. A microwave oven would also be very handy for that quick reheating of leftovers.
Hospitality excellent, breakfast delicious.
The standard of Bali might have being higher years ago.
It looks lovely when you get there. Feel like you are in Bali. But our room smelled musty. Carpet in the room and tiles in the bathroom were dirty. Jacuzzi bath had not been used for a long time, and we had to drain it in and out 3 times to get out the dirt that came from the jets. The cold water at the bath just dripped, so we had to soak the bath 2 hours before we wanted to bathe, to cool down. The wooden deck and chairs in the garden were very dirty. I WhatsApped the owner to ask for hangers and a broom to clean there. She then told me from her balcony that she would pass the broom through the door between our room and their house. She handed over the broom and hangers and just said the staff should have cleaned up there. I don't think the owners were in the room before we got there. Looks like they just send their staff to clean up. The mosquito net above the bed was also terribly dusty when we opened it.
The owner was very friendly, but the place was unkempt, bedding is old. We were happy that our canine friend could go with us, there was plenty of room for her.
A stunning place where the owners make you feel as if you're part of the family. But the best part is the view over the dam with the lush plants that gives you a sense of privacy. The windows of your room and jet bath opens up to this view. Quite amazing.
Everything is so neat and peaceful, if done with love and it shows. I can't wait to go back.
Die uitsig is pragtig, ons het die dek so geniet. Die plekkie wat ons in gebly het is pragtig en netjies. Die hele opset is awesome die swembad als. Sal beslis weer daar oorbly ons het dit baie geniet.
Nice view and beautiful bird life.
The lodge is very beautiful and peaceful. It's just difficult to get into the lodge with a big car like a bakkie or a very low sports car because it has a very steep ascent as the entrance for the cars.
Very friendly service and very nice and tidy in the room itself. We would recommend Bali @ Willinga Lodge to anyone.
Friendly hospitable people. I think it is a bit expensive for the age and cleanliness of facilities, but we enjoyed it. The breakfast, which can be booked additionally, was delicious.
Nice stay but needs attention.
It's nice and quiet and would definitely recommend to people who just want to get away alone with their husband or wife without the kids. It was very nice.
DStv doesn't work at all. WiFi only in certain places, not as advertised. Parking not safe. Sewage smell not pleasant. Plague with midges.
Old worn towels, communal kitchen was dirty and was cleaned at our insistence. At R1000 per night one expects more. No communication about WiFi password but is advertised as free WiFi. To cater for all the mosquitoes there was an empty Doom tin left in our room.
Unit covered with spiders and even 1 scorpion found inside unit. Kitchen sink sponges in good condition. Mold visible in bathroom. Unacceptable cleanliness. Owners did not make recent preparation for our arrival. Spiders everywhere in unity, together with their 2 nests above the fire-oven. We looked forward to what the unit had to offer, but were unable to take advantage of any of it.
We have taken pictures of the chalet that is available. We had to eat in restaurants all weekend because no food can be prepared unless you use a communal kitchen. Self-catering units usually work differently. The unit is on a 45 degree slope uphill from your parking space. No help with luggage/shopping and the unit is quite a distance. Once there, you have to climb wooden stairs, the condition of which, especially one, is dangerous. The whole weekend was therefore exhausting and the cleanliness of the unit made us look forward to coming home.
Not at all what was advertised, got promised the world but ended up in a ditch. The pictures must be very old as you can see what it used to be, but it is not now.
Good service, wonderful views.
Wonderful location, fantastic hosts and absolute privacy. Will go again anytime.
Drive up to the lodge very style, some cars are going to have a problem. Parking limited and if lodge is full. Hot tub was very slippery and stairs by tub unsafe. Definitely not for older people - too many stairs, too style.
Good service, nice breakfast and very friendly owners. We will definitely go again!
I couldn't even drink water from the taps because it was disgusting. My children were traumatised by the place. We couldn't walk barefoot around the house. Why are your towels brown? The bathroom was the worst, the bed smells, the pillows smell like someone's sweat. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, my daughter was throwing up the entire time. Please clean the place.
Have a good time. Will and Ingrid were very hospitable.
See stars.
Very quiet and beautiful and would recommend.
The room was a bit grubby - the linen smelt of cigarette smoke. The coffee mugs were just rinsed in the basin and not washed properly. I had to ask the maid to clean the mugs twice, the balcony was not swept once in the four days we stayed. The preview said there was Wi-Fi, there was no Wi-Fi in the rooms and when queried we were told that we had to sit on the communal balcony as the property was too big. Even there reception was intermittent.
Bali at Willinga Lodge has a lot of potential but is very neglected. Central kitchen is extremely poorly equipped and very messy. Communal sitting area and patio were full of leaves and general impression is one of neglect and lack of attention.
I hated every minute in that room. People parked in front of our room and thought we were reception. So they knocked on our door all the time, day and night. It was awful.
The B&B is a case that Health and Safety must investigate.
Was a wonderful experience.
Can honestly recommend the place. It was a quiet few days.
It was a special place, there is only here and there something that bothered, but otherwise it was very nice. Friendly people and very nice place.
It feels like you are on an island, so peaceful and quiet with beautiful views of the dam. Tropical vegetation and Bali island furnishings. I would definitely recommend this to those who are weary city dwellers merely looking for peace and quiet. Clean and neat, friendly staff, very close to activities in the area.
See star-rating.
General maintenance can be updated. Website says breakfast is offered at R60 per person, when we checked in, we were told it was R70 per person. When I handed over my card to pay for 2 breakfasts, I was told it was R150 for 2, ie R75 per person. I didn't appreciate the fact that the cat was lying on the big table in the dining room when we walked in for our breakfast. View is very nice.
Parking is very difficult and no "Reception" sign. View is beautiful and rooms are reasonable. Just feel R1220-00 is too much and it did not include breakfast.
The venue was clean and neat but everything was a little dated and could do with a good spruce up.
The room in which we stayed did not look like the picture at all. The bedding was old and worn. There were spiders in the bathroom and the water smelled. The parking lot is very steep and it was difficult to get in there. Their rates are too high for the quality of service.
Perfect holiday atmosphere, quiet, safe and very pleasant people. Will visit there again for sure.
Romantic getaway with friendly owners. Units area well appointed and have stunning views of the dam.
The mattress just needs an upgrade, otherwise no complaints. Such a quiet, peaceful area.
Thanks so much for a wonderful weekend. Breakfast was divine. You can explore Hartbeespoort Dam or just relax at the lodge and you will still get value for your money. We had a great braai and the Jacuzzi was awesome. In the evenings we snuggled up by the fireplace. Definitely something to experience.
It felt as though we have been transported to Indonesia upon arrival. The unit we stayed in had a stunning view of the dam and we loved the natural garden with abundant bird life. Thank you to the owners for a absolutely fantastic stay, and a mouth-watering breakfast. We will be back soon!
Neat, friendly owner.
View over the dam and the scenery is stunning. really enjoyed the accommodation, friendly people is always a plus. Thanks, will definitely recommend it to family and friends.
Place needs attention and with the dam's condition everybody there is going to suffer. Will not go to Harties again soon.
The Jazuzzi bath is not working. For the price we paid per night unacceptable.
Place was nice and clean, view beautiful, but a bit expensive for a night just to sleep, other places cheaper with breakfast included. Parking is a problem, very very steep uphill. But I will spend time there again.
For R850 per night there were no TV, air-conditioner, WiFi, breakfast or mirror except in the bathroom. Our first day we asked to be moved to another room as there was a mouldy smell in the room. The new room, however, smelled like the fridge leaked on the mat. After day 1 we were moved back to our original room. The mouldy smell was not gone, but was better. The lodge is for sale and the maintenance and tidiness is typical of a person who wants to get rid of a place.
Can't wait for my next visit.
Very very friendly staff upon your arrival. Safe breathtaking place. Perfect for a break.
The stay at Bali at Willinga was wonderful! It is incredibly peaceful and beautiful! Owners are very friendly and hospitable! Will definitely stay there again!
A very hospitable welcome and incredibly delicious breakfast. The location of the suites is such that you forget that there are people around you. The bathrooms are luxurious.
We were kindly received and the accommodation was sufficient for our needs. Breakfast was an experience with the view from the deck.
Very nice. Will go again.
Convenient accommodation with everything you need. Good value for money.
We really enjoyed the stay, it was quiet and private and the breakfast on the patio was wonderful with an amazing view. We also had a great time talking to the owners.
It was nice.
The price you paid and what you got needs to be adjusted. The owners are very friendly and having told us that they are selling. One hopes that the new owners will inject big plans for Willinga Lodge.
Although the room was neat, I found it a bit cramped for 2 people. The porch or patio was not cleaned, nor was the patio set. It was dusty, but not 1 or 2 days of dust, it's several days of dirt. I would have thought that they would at least sweep the porch and dust the patio set the morning before we (the guests) have to check in. There was coffee, tea, sugar, etc. available, but, there wasn't even enough coffee in the container for 2 people and the coffee granules were rock hard. Like coffee that has been standing for several months. The cold water in the fridge was ordinary tap water, so I couldn't use it. It has an aftertaste. We had to procure our own "drinking water". Although we only spent one night there, we traveled from far away to attend a wedding. The evening I spent there did not feel special or miraculous to me. Felt like I had spent the night in someone's spare room in the back of their garden to help me out. This is not what one has in mind when paying for a bed far away from home.
It is described as a romantic luxury suite, which is not true. First, the bedding is old faded and unkempt over the bed. The curtain rail is not attached to the wall, it hangs askew and rests only on the sides of the walls. From outside the unit you can look straight into the shower and room. Nothing is neat about the unit and no effort has been made there. The unit for R920 per night is absolutely ridiculous, and the owner's response is: "What did you expect for R920 per night?".
Thank you very much for the feedback and confirmation of the booking at Bali at Willinga Lodge. We were very disappointed in the accommodation as booked. The room was dirty and dusty, cobwebs everywhere, a sign that it doesn't get cleaned often. My daughter and her friend developed a rash on their bodies that looks like the rash of bed bugs! It is unacceptable. We paid for a unit with breakfast the following day, to which they then said it costs extra. It wasn't the deal when I made the booking. There also wasn't any milk available? This place needs attention immediately regarding the neatness and upkeep against the cost.
The electricity was out most of the night. The lighting with candles were not sufficient in this case. My husband and I wanted a romantic night, but ended up laying in the dark doing nothing.
Beautiful place with friendly people.
Please refer to the star-ratings.
Friendly service when you arrive. Be well informed of who you can contact if something is needed. Neat and clean too!
We really enjoyed it. The owner and his wife were very hospitable and I will definitely stop by again for an overnight session.
We had a really nice stay and the service is fantastic. You feel so welcome.
Spent a very nice peaceful weekend break at Willinga. The accommodation is great and the friendliness of Will and Ingrid is even better. Would highly recommend getting away for a day or two.
The stay was very nice, peaceful and quiet. One problem: there is no TV, and it does get boring.
We got there just after 1pm on Thursday and we were met by a lady who called the manager to come check us in. At first glance, the lodge looks very nice. It is between trees on the hill and the view at the dam is beautiful. The first thing that caught our eye was a fairly large spider that made itself at home above the telephone used to call up to the lodge and there were also many cobwebs everywhere. When we got back to the lodge that evening, we had to walk carefully so as not to walk through any of the shelves. There was also dog mess right where you walk through to the rooms. The rooms had not been redone in a very long time and some of the switches did not work. It was also very dirty. The light switches were really dirty. There was a cigarette butt next to the bed by the door and there was also a used hair band on top of the cupboard which was terribly full of dust. When we got there in the afternoon, we were taken around the area and shown where the common recreation area was. Little did we know that you have to share the area with the people who have to clean the lodge. The cleaners had been so comfortable that they had been in there for the better part of two hours and had a good time lying on the sofas too. Until we drove that evening they were still nice and quiet on the sofas. I will not stay at Willina Lodge again nor will I recommend anyone else to stay there until they can behave professionally. For R1100 I really expected more. The lodge is really located in a picturesque area, but it seems as if the management has not been involved with the lodge for a very long time.
Misled by pictures. The facilities are not properly maintained, namely plantation that blocks views of the dam which completely defeats the purpose. The bedroom is below average, dusty, and the bedding is in a bad condition. They could do better and until they do I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
The couches were dirty, fireplace in room made so much smoke that EVERYTHING smelled of smoke and we couldn't sleep. We decided to book out earlier because the place was really not to our liking. Your vehicle is about 200 m from where you sleep and the driveway is so steep that you are dead tired by the time you get to your place of residence. The braai was broken and so dirty that no braai could be done. Breakfast was served in the main house where the cat was constantly among the food! I just feel for the amount we paid per night I could have stayed in a hotel that would have been more value for money than what we got. We were totally disappointed in booking.
Place needs attention regarding cleanliness and care. Rooms were dirty and full of cobwebs.
Willinga Lodge is truly a breathtaking slice of a book. We were in the Bali lodge for our 10th wedding anniversary and it has such a taste of Bali and a beautiful view. Ingrid and Will are extremely friendly and make the most delicious breakfast.
Lovely scenery and lovely people! Ingrids omelettes are the best!
See the stars.
I would recommend Bali at Willinga Lodge & Spa to any person anytime. Ingrid and Will make anyone feel welcome. The environment had been breathtaking. We will visit there again anytime.
It was very nice. We enjoyed it very much. It was also very private and the nature around our places enchanted us!
All went well, and breakfast was excellent.
Bali at Willinga Lodge & Spa is close enough to Joburg not to spend too much time on the road, but far enough to get away from city life completely. Amenities and activities are very close. The lodge is comfortable and facilities suitable for short stays.
We had a one0night stay, and felt there was no privacy in our suite (The Greenbird suite), due to other visitors walking past our unit all the time, so we couldn't open the curtains. This meant we couldn't enjoy nature from our room or the stoep, as people kept looking in the room and passing over our stoep. That was a major problem and I really felt like stopping them and asking is there really no other path way?!?
A bit expensive for what is offered. Location beautiful.
Lovely setup. Quiet & definitely a romantic venue with great facilities.
Fantastic friendly!
The food was delicious and the host is so nice and friendly. My husband and I can't wait to go back there again. It's very clean, neat, peaceful and just nice!
It was really very pleasant to sleep over there. We stayed there for two nights. It is clean, luxurious and very peaceful. The owners went out of their way to make it as delicious as possible. It was my mother's birthday and the owner even arranged a cake for us. The breakfast is delicious and we had a spa treatment too.
Very cute place in a tree- and plant-rich environment with a pond as a bonus. Fireplace and hot tub is definitely a winner. Friendly reception as well as nice chats during a delicious breakfast. We really felt like we were being carried on our hands! Thank you very much!
Thank you very much Ingrid for the warm welcome. After staying here, you feel like you're home while away from your home. We spent a well rested evening here, along with enjoying the wonderful romantic atmosphere (we stayed for our wedding anniversary). The view is simply stunning to wake up to.
I loved the service, the serenity, and the fact that it was not crowded.
Will and Ingrid are very friendly and you just feel welcome. Willinga is beautifully situated and the view over the dam is incredible. The gardens are incredibly beautiful and we really enjoyed them. Thank you very much for the opportunity.
A beautiful setting with excellent and friendly service.
Would be helpful if there were somebody to assist with the luggage - otherwise everything was great.
The environment is very beautiful.
We had a great time. However, the parking is far from the suite.
Comfortable rooms and nice bathrooms with a beautiful view of the dam, friendly owners and tasty breakfast. We didn't like sharing a table with other guests. However, the terrain is very uneven and the stairs are dangerous. Parking was not sufficient and we had to park on the street because the car could not turn into the only parking space that was open due to other cars that were on the road.
This is the most perfect, private & restful place to have a couples getaway / break.
Awesome! Everything is close by!
What a lovely experience! Great breakaway from the daily rat race in the city.
The reception was excellent and owners are extremely hospitable. Facilities are good. Beautiful place in a peaceful environment.
Rooms very private, good customer service. They have a lovely romantic atmosphere.

Description
