60 guests' feedbackWhat a gem! The location was awesome - spoilt for choice with activities and the night sky was just amazing. With a beautiful river and waterfalls, there were plenty of swimming holes to cool off in and fish in the river. Amazing hikes and bike trails - this little gem has it all! Yvonne and her beautiful family were amazing, we will definitely be back : ).
Balie's Gat is located in a small valley completely surrounded on all sides by scenic mountains. The environment is terrific. The secluded cabin provided a great indoor/outdoor living experience. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Our only regret is we live 1,500 kms away and cannot visit frequently.
We had a great time, will definitely stay here again!
We had a wonderful stay. The accommodation is wonderfully equipped, with the necessary, and the Lord's clean nature surrounds us. The moon also a big treat.
Nice stay and nice walk.
Thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing few days in a beautiful setting but would take wasp repellent along next time.
Very quiet, completely closed off from everyone, lovely waterholes for swimming or walking in nature.
We experienced a lovely few days of rest and walking in beautiful surroundings. Special for sure.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Grysbokkie.
Nice stay. The little problems that did exist were taken up with the hostess and sorted out.
Lovely accommodation close to nature, away from ordinary comfort. A weekend where you can recharge your batteries.
Stay was great, however we found that the awning or shade cloth that used to be attached to the kitchen side of the accommodation as per the website pictures has been removed. This leaves the total front area and kitchen exposed to the sun and heat. Such a pity. This small lack of feature leaves much to be desired. Apart from this, the remainder was perfect.
What a lovely place. In nature, without signal, blissful. The owners are friendly and nice people. Lovely hiking trails, waterfalls and pools. Beautiful views. It was just what we needed. Plekkie is equipped with everything one needs. Actually regret that we only booked 2 nights. We can recommend it.
Highly recommend if you just want to get away and relax. Klipbokki cabin was awesome, warm and well put together. We needed nothing except our potjie. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful.
It is wonderfully peaceful, deep in nature, with no cell reception. We also ventured quite a bit with our 9 month old baby. The place has everything you need. For us city jays it had been an experience.
Adventure from start to finish. Very nice stay and recommend Klipbokkie.
Absolutely stunning surrounds with a very comfortable luxury tent. Lots to explore and lovely swimming and hiking opportunities. The hosts are extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. Be sure to get the interesting history of the land from Marius if you stay.
I especially loved the Old Man Carl tent. It is nice and secluded and private, perfect to switch off 100% and relax.
I love the remote places to travel to. Far from people and catchments. Balie'sGat is perfect for traveler like myself.
The seclusion, location, hiking trails with the waterholes for cooling refresh Balie's Gat your soul!
The surroundings are beautiful and our primary school children had a great time cycling. It was a little cold for the rock pools, but I can only imagine how nice it must be to swim there in the summer months. Thank you very much it was a lovely weekend.
Just what our souls needed. An escape from the city to this picturesque gem. Beautiful hikes, gorgeous swims and bushmen paintings to top it off. We'll be back soon.
So stunning, private, isolated, natural beauty. Amazing hike and access to incredible rock pools. Definitely recommend everyone to go stay.
A true hidden gem. Slightly nerve-wracking route into valley, but definitely worth it. Amenities are also very neat and more than adequate.
Neat, hospitable, clean, best view and very cute glamping units.
We have stayed in lots of farm self-catering establishments and Balie'sGat is by far the most peaceful and relaxing venue. Things could change if the site is full, but the owners are very hands on and stipulate that other guests must be taken into consideration. Our cabin, Klipbokkie, had everything we needed and just how we like it. Glamping in wonderful surroundings.
Quiet and peaceful days and nights. Accommodation is clean and suited for a couple's stay with all amenities for a camping experience. Beautiful scenery and a breath-taking last 2 km entering Balies Gat. Will return in the future.
The location is absolutely mind-blowing, and both Yvonne and Marius are wonderful hosts. Even the freshly baked farm bread, of course with homemade jam to go with it. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go to!
The location is perfectly suited for a remote getaway from all forms of distractions and allows you to totally remove yourself from the hustle and bustle of modern life. There is no reception which is perfect! Only had time to explore the two watering holes, but the water was pristine and refreshing. The views from the top of the ridge are breathtaking. Highly recommended.
The owners are welcoming and friendly. We bought really good products, jam and tasted their delicious oranges. There is a lovely natural pool close to the camp and a choice of beautiful walks.
Very nice location. The chalet (Grysbokkie) was clean and comfortable. Friendly hosts. The day temperature was very high, nights comfortable. Nice place to relax. Thanks.
Highly recommended, wonderful hosts and supreme location.
Deep in the Koue Bokkeveld mountains lies a gem. When you drive down the winding sandy path like this, you gasp for breath, you can't take in all the beauty at once. You should watch a few times. Everything in the house is beautiful, and the large sliding door lets the outside in. And then you rest. And just take in.
This was our second time at Balie'sGat and we will definitely be back. It's a place to find peace and tranquility. It is the most beautiful and the silence is deafening. Thank you Yvonne and Marius for your hospitality. See you again soon!
Was great, the route down into the gorge is so beautiful ─ 4x4 recommended. The Klipbokkie house was very tidy with the greenest grass you have ever seen! The heat was not a problem, the sprinklers around the house cool it down nicely and in the evening it gets nice and cool in the gorge. The water pools nearby are also a nice way to cool off. Ice and wood are delivered to your doorstep daily. Was great.
Restored by the clean air, the views, and a swim in the river.
It was absolutely fantastic. Clean, neat, stunning views, good walks, swemgat was great, rugby good, no cell phone reception which is fantastic. Facilities, all you need. Marius and Yvonne are such good people. The lawn at the camping site and around the two cottages and lovely thick green grass. The best place to go for a break-away.
Our stay at Balie's Gat was amazing. This place is so beautiful! We went in spring but the days were rather hot already - but don't worry, there are beautiful rock pools where you can refresh yourself. Marius and his wife are super nice hosts. I'm looking forward to come back for more days in the rock pools, hikes and next time motorbike trips through the beautiful mountains! Thanks for having us.
The accommodation and site was very clean, comfortable and well supplied. The views and silence was an absolute wonderful experience as well as the hiking and swimming facilities, everything as a nature lover could ask for. I would definitely recommend and return there at every opportunity I have.
What an excellent place to relax.
Directions to Balie's Gat shorts the turn to Tandfontein. Got lost since there is no sign on the R303. Other than that, enjoyed the time there.
It was an incredible weekend. We really enjoyed the privacy and the scenery. The cabin (klipbokkie) was very clean, neat and well equipped. We walked to the rock pools and enjoyed it very much, it was clean and beautiful. The stars in the evening are also incomparable to anything you will find in the city. There is no electricity or cellphone signal, which makes for a great getaway. Yvonne and co are very friendly and can accommodate you, they also sell the most delicious jams, etc. The road to it is an adventure, but beautiful, a bakkie is a must! This is the ideal place for a wedding anniversary, but also a weekend away with friends. We will definitely return.
The accommodation is in a beautiful area with only sounds of nature to be heard. Cabins had all the essentials and very neat and tidy. Loved the stay and would definitely recommend!
The road for the last 4 km is bad. Definitely recommended to have vehicle with how much ground clearance. Silence and tranquility together with good clean air and nature, make it a must! The owners are also helpful and make it nice to stay there.
We had a wonderful stay at Balie'sGat. The road in is amazing, but also makes you understand why they recommend high clearance vehicles. There are a number of places to swim in the river, and we are looking forward to returning and exploring further. There are also a number of walks on the farm. We stayed in one of the cabins, Klipbokkie, which was a really lovely spot. I would recommend bringing some form of shade in the summer months, and if you need to have tech items charged, it's worth bringing some form of solar charger with you.
Great location and beautiful setting.
Stayed for 2 nights. Hosts were very receptive and friendly.
Friendly and helpful hosts. Thank you very much, Marius, for your help with my flat tyre. Nice place to get away from the city especially if you want to test your SUV a bit. Everything you need is there and it's clean. Nice and simple! We strongly recommend it!
We went in search of dark skies for the meteor shower. The shooting stars showed up! It was chilly with the snow on the mountains, definitely a summer destination but if its the stars you are after winter is the time to go.
It was a real experience, will definitely visit the place again, the cabin was exceptionally clean and well equipped, the stargazing was something out of a movie. The hospitality and concern of Marius was much appreciated.
This is the most ideal getaway and we can't wait to go again. Marius and Yvonne are some of the best hosts and hostesses we have ever met.
The little houses were very neat and well planned and we didn't lack anything. The green grass at the units, as well as the lovely pools, were refreshing to us drought stricken Capers! The service is excellent and the fresh fruit, jams, honey and preserved products were wonderful! Despite the vegetation that was destroyed by recent fires, there were surprisingly many bird species.
We stayed in Klipbokkie for two nights. The beauty of the cedar mountains, the silence (even if the other lodge and campsite are close by it is still quiet and private) and the pleasure of sitting outside, making a fire and stargazing was unsurpassed. We would very much like to stay longer! What we would recommend to guests visiting the area: 1. a shade net; 2. insect repellant (mosquitoes, midges and flies are part of nature, but an environmentally friendly repellant reduces the number of bites:) 3. a four-wheel drive vehicle is a must!
As jy uit jou siel soek of jy het jou siel verloor, gaan maar na Balie’sGat. Rustig, pragtig, vriendelik mense mens wat daar is. Ek kom vir seker terug.
The two wooden cottages were comfortable and clean. Basically equipped, but we did not have a need for anything else. Our hosts were friendly and available to chat and tell us about the farm and area. We had a wonderful weekend bird watching, 4x4 drive and hiking. The road to Balie'sGat is definitely for high clearance vehicles and the 4x4 trail we did offered some spectacular views.
For the nature lover. With rain it will not be possible to eat/prepare food, as there is no kitchen, only a roof, but otherwise it is beautifully furnished!
Was very nice. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to get out of the city. Just be sure to bring a lot of mosquito repellent. Marius and Yvonne were very helpful and are very happy to help out ot make it comfortable for the guests.
Well equipped cottage in beautiful surroundings.
We were a little disappointed to discover the cabin we stayed in was near to the campsite - it appeared from the website to be somewhere on top of the mountain. But in any event this was not a problem. Lovely walks with stunning flowers and bird life. Found some excellent rock pools to dunk in up in the kloof just behind the cabin.
