It was a perfect stop over on a long journey, satisfactory for an overnight stay. It is difficult to find reasonable accommodation just for this purpose these days.
The location is great. but you are right by the bar, so sleeping is a challenge but the vibe is nice and room nice and clean. we are in the heat of summer and a fan would have been nice to help cool the room a bit. overall pleasant stay, no major issues. Staff was very nice.
My stay was bad. I couldn't sleep because of dirty sheets. The toilet was also dirty. The fact that my car was parked outside was also a problem. And there was nothing to keep my water cold, and it's very hot.
Our stay was fine. We just needed a place to sleep. The sink was awful, badly stained. Only 1 plug point in a cupboard. The stairs up to our room could be a safety hazard.
The Dung Beatle has the bar on site. That sums things up nicely. What an old bad place. Definitely not worth your money. Dirty, dusty, noisy. There are three magical wooden hearts hanging above the bed, symbolic of a place that may have started with love, but now all that's left are devoured mattresses, yellow sheets, green algae growing in the shower, dirty windows. There is only one plug with no leads or two prong plugs? No bedside lamps. Only two lights in the roof work. Paint shell off. A closet with one hanger? Three cups, one glass with water from someone who probably drank from there before you. No dish soap. Parking is on the street and not safe as stated in the ad? No WiFi was given to us or mentioned in the room? It's a stuffy room full of mosquitoes with no fan (although the photo in the ad shows a fan).
Very pleasant atmosphere. We were even able to bring our little dog with us. Appreciate it.

The environment is quiet and peaceful. The accommodation was affordable.
The guests who were there respected us - which of course says many of the town's residents. The morning sun on the stoep made me stay another day because I experienced the tranquility of the town - with a coffee of course. Definitely value for money. The days of driving past this town are over. Definitely worth the stop.
The lodge is a pleasant place to stay and discover Barrydale. The room is comfortable and tidy. The friendliness of the owners is wonderful. The restaurant attracts the locals and you can discover a lot about Barrydale from chatting with the locals. The braai that the owners offer on Saturdays is a wonderful event.
Mattresses may need some attention. Microwave would be welcome.
It was not at all what I expected. The floors were very dirty and I doubt if the bedding was washed after the previous people stayed there. Also didn't realize I would have to sleep through a live band and a bar's noise right below my room. Put a wall plug in the room, and put it inside a closet.
Friendly and caring staff. Just a pity there was no closet for our clothes in the unit.

Very clean and neat rooms. Great tourist place close to other tourist attractions. No staff in sight when I booked out the next day. I left the key in the door and hoped nothing funny happened.

The unit is well equipped for an overnight stay - it was good value for money and the unit was neat and clean.
This was our second stay at the Dungbeetle Backpackers and once again we had a fantastic experience. The bar on the same premises makes it easy and fun to order a bite to eat (simple dishes, affordable, and well prepared) while enjoying a drink and socializing with whoever happens to be there. Barrydale is already starting to feel like our second home and we will definitely make a visit again and stay overnight.
My partner and I stayed at Barrydale Backpackers this weekend and were very pleasantly surprised. The unit was very neat and quite modern, not at all what one would expect from a backpackers. The rooms were comfortable, very well furnished (with quite a lot of coffee, tea, clean towels etc.). We received very friendly service and will definitely stay there again. Next time we will most likely bring friends as the hangouts in the Dung Beetle Pub were fantastic! The location is also fantastic and is right next to Diesel and Creme, also on the high street, so most of the places one wants to visit are just a jog down the street. The food is very reasonable and while not full of tiger lantins, it is very well prepared. Will definitely stop by again!
The best accommodation in Barrydale.
Perfect location - on the main street close to shops and cafes and the only place where you can hang out in the evening if you want. Everyone was very nice and the room was everything one could need.

We had a good time and slept. The barbecue drumsticks were cooked and that's really all we could complain about.
