The private courtyard was really special.
Neat and with friendly staff.
The room was by no means finished as in the photos. The shower was a nightmare to balance hot and cold and the shower only sprayed like 3 small jets. The car had to be parked outside one night because there was no parking available.
Parking a problem because sometimes you have to ask other people to move their vehicles if you want to drive. Driving in and out sometimes very difficult. WiFi signal very weak. Friendly staff and nice facilities.
We had specifically booked to stay in the loft as we were travelling with two parties and wanted to all be together. When we arrived, we were told we had been moved into some other rooms because the WiFi was not working in the loft. I don't feel it was as nice for our our group because there was no lounge and the kitchen was poorly equipped - eg no glasses, no ice. Also there was no toilet paper in the one bathroom. As it turned out, the WiFi didn't work in the rooms we were moved to anyway so we could have stayed in the loft. There was no one on site to assist with queries and the two contact numbers given, including the emergency one, went straight to voicemail.
Overall environment. Reception office looks like a street cafe. Not as it looks in the pictures.
It was a lovely, clean and spacious cottage with an awesome garden. We felt so at home there. Lovely for a family. The only thing that was a slight negative is that the only bathroom was an on suit of the main bedroom. We were 3 adults sharing the cottage so a minor drawback, But I'd certainly go back and highly recommend it.
We had a lovely stay at Bartholomew's Loft. It was convenient and easy. They were very accommodating for me to check out later as I had to wait for the students to finish their NBTs. Will definitely recommend and stay there in future. Thank you.
We stayed here as a group of friends and the unit was well maintained. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The handle of the toilet was broken so often had to fix it myself. The kitchen was spacious and had everything you need. Unfortunately, the stove shocked you if you used a pan or pot. Same with the electric kettle. If you wanted to lift the kettle without shoes, you also shocked. Other than that, it was convenient and close to everything.

Place very spacious with lots of space and safe parking, but place was not very clean and the communication was not very good, also couldn't check in at 2pm because they were still cleaning, but otherwise no complaints.

Bartholomew's Loft is definitely one of our favourite places to stay in Grahamstown. Our last stay was in the Courtyard Suite which, as always, was spacious, homely and with all the extra comforts one would need. The service is always great and I love that the building is located in the older area of Grahamstown, surrounded by settler cottages.

The room was large and well furnished, but on the ground floor, window opening out onto the street. The noise from the garage opposite the street could be a problem. Our security gate was not operational.

We were staying in Grahamstown for a child's sports tour, and the self-catering option was ideal. The beds were comfy, there was plenty of hot water, the kitchen was well-equipped. There was plenty of safe parking space for our (large) bakkie. I would definitely stay there again. The only minor complaint I have is that we could hear the neighbour's TV playing next door.
We enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The only problem is that there were spiderwebs on the windows and tissues under the dresser in the bedroom.

I was really impressed and surprised with the accommodation. What an absolute pleasure to have stayed at this establishment. It has such a character of it's own and the photographs do not do the establishment justice. It was a home from home and has all the creature comforts, the kids also enjoyed the homely feeling whilst taking a break from boarding school. I could cook and relax in the nice small garden which makes a big difference during a stay over. Thank you so much, see you soon again.

It was a pleasure to sleep there. The place was tasteful and very clean. We were kindly received and wanted to leave early the next morning. There was someone on duty at 6:00 to open the gate.
The reception was not tip top. I would say the receptionist could have at least walked with you to your unit. We could also have offered to help with luggage.
I think absolutely nothing of Grahamstad. The tourism office was closed on the holiday. The leaflet with information about what to see indicates that the Observatory is open on Saturdays when it turns out that it is not open on Saturdays at all. It's extremely pathetic! The lady at the tourist office says they have also taken it up with the authorities but it falls on deaf ears. Weak! Very good service. Food was nice and there was a good variety.

The Loft was beautiful and comfortable. Parking was a little difficult in one section. The only downside was the proximity to a sleazy part of Beaufort Street. However, a fantastic place otherwise, very safe and clean, and good value for money.
