99 guests' feedbackHad a warm welcome from the host, the dearest cat. Cottage was furnished with the necessary. Everything was neat and comfortable. Had a nice fireplace that warmed the house.
Peaceful, safe and clean.
Great, wonderful setting and quiet.
Very nice and tidy place in the most beautiful surroundings. The staff are friendly, helpful and made us feel at home. We will definitely visit Baviaanskloof Guest Cottages again.
We spent the night in "Die Kerkie" and it was wonderful. The little church totally surprised us with its beautiful and neatly laid out interior. There are two bathrooms, the one bathroom in the bedroom has a nice big bath in it with a wonderful view of the little pond. The other bathroom again has a shower in it. The evening sounds at the pond were incredible. We even had a pig that entertained us rolling around in the pond as well as turtles and ducks. It was truly an exceptional experience to be able to spend the night in the church. The wind came up before we could barbecue, but there is a wonderful barbecue area inside the cottage. It was too delicious to barbecue inside the cottage and eat by candlelight. We would definitely recommend this little church for the silence, night sounds and total peace and quiet after a long day on the road.
Beautiful and peaceful, did not want to go back home.
Offers all amenities needed for a good stay. Beautiful setting. Also conveniently close — walking distance to the well-stocked Padstal where you can also buy wood for the inside fire (braai) place. The ad shows water in the dam, but does state that it could be dry, it was.
See stars.
Langhuis was a very nice house.
Exactly what we expected.
Thank you very much, the scenery and different plants and diversity was to see. I will not tackle the route without a 4x4, because the last part through the nature reserve is very challenging. Beautiful part of our country!
Was very nice, peaceful, with beautiful natural beauty and animal sounds.
Very quiet and a scenic setting.
Neat and peaceful with everything we needed for a perfect mum and dad's weekend away. We come again!
Very neat little house, nice visit in a peaceful atmosphere. Neat and clean.
I was so privileged to stay in Ou Kerkie for 10 nights. I was exhausted when I got there, but left fresh and refreshed. The tranquility, fresh air and wildlife are just the right medicine to give one a new zest for life. The cottage is also excellently equipped. There was something that was bad for me: Driving away from there.
House has everything you need. Beautiful peaceful surroundings.
I think the Baviaanskloof is our country's most beautiful place.
We will stay in Oupatjie again!
Cottage was fine. Nice view (Ou Kerkie). Only minor gripe was that the WiFi worked for one of us only. But not a serious issue.
Thanks to Jana for her hospitality, would have liked to visit longer.
Was very kindly welcomed. Everything was super clean and tidy. Must congratulate you. Will come again. Many greetings.
The cottage is very close to the main road through the Baviaanskloof, so there is a lot of traffic. The workers' houses are directly across the road. They partied and played music all Saturday afternoon and evening.
Thank you for the wonderful time in your beautiful scenery. Just a favor - the bed and sofa bed in living room are not suitable for adults.
Very clean and tidy place in the beautiful Baviaanskloof. Would definitely recommend it.
The cottage was well placed with a large lawn, convenient braai place and all necessary amenities. Very peaceful.
There are a number of lovely features: indoor braai/fireplace; plunge pool and corner bath with huge windows and views of the Baviaanskloof. The cottage had everything we needed for a two-day stay, including lots of firewood. There are two bathrooms, so it really is more than spacious enough for two people. It was lovely watching the tortoise trundling back and forth and having cows grazing in the garden. The cottage is across the road from the Baviaans-padstal and -restaurant, and there are several beautiful walks/short hikes close by, so it couldn't be more convenient.
Next time we bring friends, and the kids, they would have really enjoyed it. The grass, monkeys in the trees, and the tree are wonderful. Wish we could see the paddock too, it looks just as cute from the outside. P.S. Just remember toilet paper.
Old man has everything you might need and everything is neat, tidy and sparkling clean! The skunks and turtle that came to visit made it extra special.
Lovely cottages in beautiful surroundings.
The area is beautiful with the mountains all around you. The peace and quiet is medicine for the soul.
Didn't know there were still such quality people in our beautiful country.
Friendly staff, clean facilities and beautiful surroundings. We will definitely visit again. Thank you Jana for you and your team.
We booked overnight accommodation on the Willowmore side of the Wilderness Area, so that we would have enough time to travel through the Wilderness Area to Patensie the next day. The accommodation is well placed for this purpose.
Wi-Fi not good. We enjoyed the stay.
The Langhuis is ideal for friends and family who don't mind walking through each other's rooms. What you see on the pics is what you get. The location against the cliffs is absolutely beautiful with nice walking opportunities. Dog enjoyed it too.
The paddock is literally 200 m from the cottage. During February there is no more water left in the dam, but it is certainly closer to winter. The house is well equipped with all the necessary things needed for an overnight stay or even for a few days.
Enjoyed hiking in the kloof.
Cute. Comfortable. Sorry pond is empty.
I would move the blue pool onto the deck so there is more deck space. It is such a convenient vantage point.
Once again a wonderful time in the Baviaans with the Old Church as a base. Recommend all the walking routes - early morning along the river, bushman drawings after breakfast and then Waterkloof (by neighbors) after lunch. The Old Church remains nice, but could benefit from some upgrades, especially in the kitchen - the current stove and microwave positions are impractical (IMO they could stand in the open hearth instead, which would also solve the smoke smell, but realize that visitors may miss the indoor fire mid-winter). A few basic items like salt and pepper and a bundle of wood will also add value. Apart from the mattress (which is rock hard) the room and bathrooms are very good - the bath is a winner. Finally, the availability of WiFi was a huge bonus for us - it allows not only communication, but also online research about the environment, history, geology, etc. This adds a lot of value to your visit to the Kloof. We will stay there again.
The Oupatjie unit has all the facilities needed. A thunderstorm was a good start to our stay. The hiking trails and surroundings have produced many surprises for bird watchers. Thank you for the hospitality.
Not suitable for one night stay. The 70 km drive from the Willowmore-Uniondale road is breathtaking, but brutal.
The shop was closed but we managed to find a young lady who came to open the firewood store and supplied us with a few bags of wood.
Oupatjie is the ideal accommodation for someone who just wants to enjoy the silence and beauty of the Baviaanskloof. The houses were clean and had everything needed including power. We had a wonderful stay and can definitely recommend Oupatjie.
A week was not nearly enough. We were so blessed because shortly before we arrived it rained a lot in the Karoo. Everything was green, so many flowers. Other than that, the Baboon is the very best place to stretch out. The paddock shop is also the best in the whole gorge. We will visit them again for sure!
Nice central in Bavian, easy to drive to other places etc. Walking distance from paddock for lunch/milkshake/coffee.
The old church is a very nice place to spend the night and is very well furnished. There is a lovely wooden deck at the braai area where you can just hang out. The house is very nicely located and the nature around the house is beautiful. We have been there 2 times now and will for sure spend the night there again.
We had a lovely warm time with our winter visit to Baviaans Cottages. The large hearth, warm and good quality bedding and deliciously hot water in the large soaking tub kept us cozy and warm! The free WiFi was a great luxury, because there is almost no phone signal in the Baviaanskloof. Use it sparingly only for the necessary matters because the no phone signal is of course part of the bliss of a Baboon holiday! The farm has Bushman drawings that guests can view after a short walk over a koppie. It was very special for our children to be able to see it precisely because they recently wrote an exam about it! The Baviaanspadstal is just across the road and has basic stock, there is only 1 other such store in the gorge, and it is very convenient not to be staying too far from this. We will definitely stay at Baviaans Guest Cottages again on our next visit!
Was a very peaceful getaway and the best place to bring a dog.
So nice to be in dry Bavian in the middle of a ferocious rainstorm, hearing the stones roll in the river and road as water washes them, and lighting the indoor braai and grilling meat.
The cottage was clean and tidy with everything you need, especially considering the price. The ergonomics were a bit strange - the two plate electric stove can only work when the kitchen door is closed and the microwave is tucked away on top of the fridge - you have to count it down and find a plug where it can work. The fridge can be defrosted every now and then. Other than that, everything was great - except that there was no one from the management anywhere so we couldn't pay.
A wonderful visit of two days in the silence of beautiful nature. House attests to simplicity, yet equipped with everything needed to hold a large maquette.
Perfect place to switch off and "reset". The walk past the baboons to the Bushman drawings was special!
Beautiful accommodation in an idyllic setting. Accommodation met every possible need. Just one small snag, maybe cold water pressure in the shower.
Microwave/stove impractical!
Glass in kitchen door cracked with a hole. Outside door handle of bedroom fell off. Mattress needs to be replaced. Impossible to have a good night's sleep. Lounge couch and two chairs' cushions are dirty. The curtains in the bedroom are stained from water leakage at the windows and door. The floors in the kitchen and dining room are chipped/pitted. The open fireplace in the kitchen resulted in an overwhelming smell of smoke when trying to sleep. Fire made by previous people. The bin itself in the kitchen needs to be washed.
Amazing environment with friendly people.
Very nice, we're coming again. There was no one at the farm stall when we wanted to pay.
Very nice stay with all the necessary accessories. Better signboards for "Guest Cottages Reception" will make it easier for travelers.
Value for money. Breathtakingly beautiful setting.
Well-maintained accommodation with the most beautiful view over the pond. Owner very helpful. Love the bath!
Everything you could want on this type of trip was available. The facilities were clean and tidy and ready when we arrived early.
We had a great time, neat place, beautiful surroundings.
See stars.
My wife and I spent a night in the old church on our honeymoon. There was just nothing wrong. Everything clean and better than I had in mind when I made the reservation.
Clean, tidy rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and around the house. Between the mountains with a beautiful view of the surrounding cliffs. I would stay there every time.
A pleasant place, neat, clean, beautiful surroundings. The people are all friendly and the owner comes personally to ask if everything is okay.
Unfortunately we only discovered the information brochure about the walking routes on the farm, etc. when we were packing up, hidden beneath the bedside table. Again, we enjoyed our three day a lot.
The little places take you back in time with the open hearth in the kitchen and low-cost frames. It has been tastefully restored with all the amenities you need. Is just too short for one night's stay because the drive in and out of Hel van the Swartberg road is 3 hours one way, we will stay longer next time.
The road from Patensie direction is appallingn- even for a 4x4.
Place was comfortable and clean. Although there were fans it was ver hot. The place can use an air-con.
Beautiful, just a pity we couldn't drive the entire Baviaanskloof route because the road that was so badly washed away.
Couldn't find anything wrong. 5 Star accommodation.
It was wonderfully quiet. The house was clean and tidy and everything that needed to work, worked. Padstall is also well equipped with necessary gutters.
The Langhuis is very suitable for larger families or groups of up to 12 people. The long past of the house contributes to an atmosphere of rootedness, rest and calm. The house is tidy and all necessary amenities are available.
We enjoyed the 3 days at Oupatjie. Comfortable, neat, well located, quiet. No cell phone reception. It was essential escapism and delicious.
We felt very welcome, were kindly welcomed and the house was just what we needed. The house, however, need a bit of maintenance, but it did not affect our stay. The next day we went on a walk according to Christo's directions to explore the bushman drawings in the area.
It was great sleeping over at Oupatjie's place. Peaceful. Beautiful sunset, while the sheep came to say goodnight.
Excellent and very friendly accommodation. Clear travel instructions and very good accommodation facilities. Beautiful scenery but the road through the Kloof to Patensie is as far as we are concerned in a worse condition than when we travelled it in 2007.
The reception was excellent and everything very neat and clean. The water in the bathroom sink did not flow well. A lovely place to rest and we will definitely visit again.
Baviaanskloof Cottages ranks amongst the best accommodation that I have used to accommodate our geology group of 30 retirees throughout the Cape Province.
We had a lovely stay and felt at peace and had a good time. The farm stall was our saving grace and we had such a nice time sitting on the stoep. Would have liked more packing space in the room for bags and clothes, even if it's just hooks and shelves against the wall. Shower in the bathroom ws very nice, you have a nice view over the kloof's mountains while you shower. Packing space in the bathroom is also limited. Chairs or a bench to sit outside would also be nice. Will definitely go again.
The Langhuis is so full of character and met all our self-catering requirements. Lovely beds, hot water for shower or bath, so had a choice! Fully equipped kitchen, delicious braai boma under that beautiful big tree. Clear starry night and surrounded by the most beautiful mountain slopes. It was a highlight on our week-long trip through the Karoo. We are definitely planning a next visit there!
Lived in Ou Kerkie which is a stand alone unit. Very neat and spacious. Overlooking a pond with lots of birds. Very peaceful and beautiful surroundings. No one is going to bother you, not even your cell phone.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at this clean, well appointed cottage. A beautiful, tranquil setting overlooking a farm dam and stunning mountains. A great escape from the city!
Nice stay, spacious and everything you need. Internal combustion engine worked well.
See stars.
Had a great overnight stay at Oupatjie. Clean and tidy. A nice sofa to sit outside by braai area is all that is missing.
Peaceful, quiet, stars, worth it.
Very surprised about the place. Very neat and very peaceful environment. One night's sleep over was not enough. They just need to put more signs up ahead, because you always think you're lost, because there is no signal for us city jays who only rely on GPS, haha! Unbelievably beautiful environment. Would use this again, but for longer than one night.
Potentially a great stay. Well situated in the Baviaanskloof. The unit was tastefully decorated and clean on arrival. Communication from the hostess could have been better. We had to drive a bit to figure out where to get the keys and had to ask around where to pay our outstanding total. The worst problem, though, was a serious infestation of ants, the biting kind. My personal opinion is that this cottage should not be rented out until this problem is resolved; it really made it unpleasant.
Too much junk lying around.
On our arrival at Baviaans Guest Cottages the location of reception was unclear. The accommodation is a few meters from the road and is therefore noisy for someone looking for a quiet getaway. The setup inside Oupatjie was impractical and the fireplace smoked a lot. Everything was clean and cleanliness was thorough.
Beautiful place between the mountains. Would recommend anytime and come again.
Unbelievable beautiful place! Everything was tasteful and neat. This place is a must and I will definitely go back.
Place was otherwise neat.
Quiet, secluded, in the incredible nature and remote.
