The breakfast was very tasty and everything was freshly prepared. We were given access to the dining hall and we barbecued outside and all the facilities were at our disposal until late at night.
Matters that hindered are: TV did not work, small fridge makes noise, only 1 tea bag available, and shower has no place to sit and slightly dirty between tiles. Because we wanted to leave early, breakfast food packs were provided which was surprising.
For an overnight destination it is great. The host was very good and the breakfast was fantastic. Ficksburg as a town felt unsafe, although the guest house has every precaution possible to make your stay feel as safe as possible.
The room was neat and clean, with a nicely kept garden, a quiet area, and really friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.
It was quiet, clean and comfortable! However, there are some maintenance issues that need to be addressed.
Good points: friendly service, clean and tidy, lovely warm beds and blankets, good WiFi, nice site, good location and delicious breakfast. Less good points: no shelves in the shower for soap, shampoo etc.; extremely inconvenient. DStv is advertised, but only Openview is available. No emergency lights in the units for load shedding. We booked 2 specific units for specific reasons; the host had one other unit ready upon arrival. A big disappointment was that a licensed restaurant was advertised. This was a major consideration with our booking, but the restaurant is permanently closed.
No, I didn't get the room I booked. There was no dustbin and no provision for load shedding. Only one bag of sugar for coffee, no milk, and the bed roll had to be brought inside, I had to sleep on the couch.
Upon arrival, the person is not even neatly dressed. Didn't get the room I booked. 18:00 was "Load Shedding"- no light or even candle in rooms. After I called the owner, they brought a candle. Room not clean at all. Looks like sand and dust on the ground next to walls. Shower floor tiles creepy to shower there. Would never recommend.
It was a historic house which was a surprise and the other guests were also our type of people who are very pleasant.

I was given rooms that I did not book, people had already checked-inn to my rooms. After all the shouting and screaming, I gave up. I would have demanded my money back if I was not desperate. It was going to be difficult to find a different place because of the cherry festival. Most places were fully booked.
The check-in was efficient, the manager of the establishment was very friendly and really went the extra mile to make sure his clients were happy. Breakfast was stunning and such a large selection to choose from. All in all, we would give Bella Rosa a 20 out of 10 rating.
Bed lamp didn't work and neither did car gate. That's bad, because then you can't park at your room.
Gate needs an eye to stay open when you drive out. Hit our car twice. Maybe a table to put the suitcase on. DStv did not work. WiFi code was never given out as promised.
It's such a shame that everything is so blown up with pictures when you go to look up a place on Google. It was stipulated that there is a TV that works and also DStv, it was out of order and for rugby fans it was very unpleasant to go looking for a place to watch a big game. It was also indicated that there was a restaurant and a bar on the premises which were also closed. The bedding was clean, but no longer in good condition. The pillowcases were broken and so was the duvet cover. I must say the breakfast was delicious and the service very good.
Not completely bad, but needs some attention to small changes for sure. Gate motor doesn't work so had to struggle to get in at night, no hot water in the morning and rooms smell stuffy and like mothballs.
No DStv as advertised. Reasons that were given are not acceptable. WiFi very weak at times.
Pleasant stay near als.
Two initial negative issues: problem with toilet and confusion with reservation. Both issues were sorted out immediately. Room very small but most time was spent outside on the veranda. The breakfast (included in the cost) very good, as was the supper. The owner was present all the time and willing to assist. Limited parking undercover available, otherwise ample under a shade tree.
Good accommodation, but the price is excessive for what is offered compared to most guesthouses.

A very nice place and very friendly staff. I enjoyed it and will definitely use it again in the future.
Stayed for 2 weeks while attending the Stars of Sandstone event nearby. We were welcomed by all the staff, they were very friendly and helpful, giving us information and places to get certain items we needed during our stay. The room was always clean and tidy with everything replenished as required. We kept some odd hours due to the nature of our visit and this was no problem with full access to our Garden House room at all hours. Had breakfast on a few mornings and it was nicely laid out with a good selection of cereals, juice and fruit and the cooked breakfast was very nice too. Would certainly stay again if we go back.
The guesthouse is run by a very helpful man who was willing to help us with anything. the room was spacious but the double bed needs a new mattress. The curtains are see-through so be careful when you want to take bath.
They were very helpful, friendly and went out of their way to make it comfortable and enjoyable for us! Food was delicious. Will definitely stay there again.

Accommodation in the country. Affordable food "from your ganny's kitchen". City-dwellers accept simplicity.
Spent two pleasant nights at the Bella Rosa, room very comfortable and the king size bed gave me two peaceful night’s sleep. Breakfast was first class and the management and staff are extremely pleasant and friendly and most helpful. Just one small complaint: Please put a longer power cable on the kettle as it is very uncomfortable pouring your tea/coffee out from the floor. But not put off by this and would not hesitate to stay again.
I suggest that you have bar fridges in the cottages.

Lovely old house although we stayed in a more modern cottage on the property. Good value for money, wish they'd put doors on their bathrooms though.
Ficksburg currently only has water at certain times of the day. The guest houses have tanks to supply water to the guests. The residents do not know when there will be water and when not. The guest house was fully booked for the weekend when we were there and therefore the water in the tanks was not enough. We took part in the 4 Peaks Mountain run in Moolmanshoek which is 40 km outside Ficksburg. Unfortunately by the time we got back to the guest house all the water in the tanks had already been used up. By the nature of the matter, we were very dirty because the run in the field and therefore could not bathe, very inconvenient. If the guesthouse had at least informed us during the booking of the water situation (which I know is beyond their control) we could have made other arrangements. We therefore drove back home late on Saturday night and thus "wasted" Saturday night's accommodation by unnecessarily booking for Saturday night as well.
The experience was unpleasant. The room we slept in is in the house where food is made. Everything stinks of the food. Breakfast is not provided until 9:30. At that time of the day, the guests have already left. On Sunday, the breakfast was not ready until after 10:00 as the people who have to make it only arrived just before 10. Sunday we were out for the day. When we returned in the late afternoon, nothing had been cleaned. When we called the manager about it he said he forgot to tell us they don't clean rooms on Sundays. They should rather market the place as self-catering. Definitely not a B&B. The jam in the open bowls is already petrified. Would suggest that jam is provided in the small sealed packets.
Breakfast is a disaster, you have to run around looking for cutlery because the tables aren't set properly. The fruit juice is super sweet, artificial. The room's mirror is meters away from the plug, you cannot blowdry your hair. The TV's adaptor has about 4 plugs in it. The TV is in the roof, it has to be against the wall. We were very disappointed, left 1 day earlier, can we be reimbursed for that?
The units' showers were not complete. No mirrors or trash cans. Unit's toilet was not working and nowhere was anyone on site to check in. No water in the evening. It was due to periodic water but no one informed us about the water jug that is on the premises. Was not informed where or when breakfast is served. Owner was very unprofessional on the phone afterwards about us not wanting to pay the full amount due to the above defects. Not once was there an apology and I was constantly attacked for not wanting to pay the full amount. But admittedly it is a very nice guest house and the rooms were clean and tidy and with the right management I hope they improve
Unfortunately we didn't have any towels and had to ask for it. The next morning the kitchen staff kicked up a racket. Quite unpleasant to wake up like this. When we wanted to shower at 16:00 to get ready for the function there wasn't any water. I realise the town has a water issue, but don't accept guests and then inconvenience them. A bucket with water to flush the toilet would have helped a lot. Definitely not a place where you can relax far away from the noisy city. Maybe a nice place to socialize for people who want to kuier at the bar. Definitely not for families.
