Bergplaas has a population of approximately 900 large mammals, including eland, kudu, red hartebeest, plains zebra, springbok and black wildebeest. Approximately 25 small mammals have been recorded in the region. Small carnivores include caracal, black-backed jackal, small-spotted genet, bat-eared fox, African clawless otter and the Cape-, grey- and marsh mongoose. There are 133 bird species in the region, including the secretary bird, Black harrier, lanner falcon and blue crane.

The hospitality of the Masperos, the lovely cottage we stayed in and the tranquillity of the reserve with its diversity of fauna and Karoo flora were a unbelievable experience. If one really wants to experience the beauty of the Karoo, this is the place to stay.

The Cottage is a free-standing cottage situated in the hills of the Sneeuberg Mountains and has a beautiful view over its valleys. The cottage can accommodate up to 3 guests and contains 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, and a lounge. The bedroom contains 2 single beds that can be made up together. The bathroom contains a shower, a toilet and a washbasin. The kitchenette is equipped with a gas stove and oven, a fridge, kettle, and cutlery and crockery. There is a 2-seater dining table and chairs. The cosy lounge contains an additional single bed, a couch and chair, and a fireplace. Outside the cottage is a lovely firepit boma area with a kettle braai, as well as a farm dam-style swimming pool.
