Bertus se Huisie was a wonderful surprise. It is quite basic, with solar power and the limitations that come with that. We had a fire going for most of the time, which was great. Coffee lovers are advised to take a coffee plunger! The view, the atmosphere, the peace and quiet, the sheep and lambs - it was all beautiful!

It was my second time at Bertus se Huisie. I stayed there for a few days with my adult son and our Labradoodle in January 2022, and this time I stayed there with my adult daughter and our Labradoodle. Our stay was as peaceful, quiet, and restful as the first time. Just what was needed. Safe, off the grid, solar powered, fantastic braai area, kitchen with all the essentials, gas hob, big cold fridge, comfortable beds, lovely big shower with good water pressure. Gas geyser, so always enough hot water. Lots of fresh air, beautiful landscape. Great to see the sheep in the distant fields with farmer Bertus putting his magnificent border collie through its paces to herd them in the early evening while we were making the fire for a braai on the big covered patio space.
Our stay at Bertus se Huisie was absolutely marvellous, especially given the fact that our dogs were able to join us. Will definitely be back in the future. Thank you to the website and Bertus for such a fantastic say.

If one gets tired of life in the city. Is this cottage a good idea to stay in. Is a cute place. Owner is very friendly.
All our 2nd time there, just like last time it was great. We really enjoyed it. Just a note - if you go in the summer, take fly patches, fly ribbons etc with you, there are an awful lot of flies but that's to be expected in the summer and it's a farm world. Everything else was amazing. Our 3 dog children really enjoyed it and it's very safe for them. They will definitely see us for a 3rd visit.

My wife and I were at Bertus' Huisie for our 4th time on the weekend of 17 to 19 November. Reason? We have had a great time staying there every time. If you like silence with farm sounds and views, this is the right place! Very neat and clean with everything you need. Even though it rained, the wind blew, it was hot during our visits, it was just better every time! Our 2 dog children ran wild and played on the neatest lawn in front of the house. The braai area and stoep are the best! So I can go on and on. And the owner's name should actually have been 'Gawie'!
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, I become human again. This place was food for my soul. From the fireplace in the kitchen, the cuddly bedding with hot water bottles and the most beautiful green lawn where the children (or dog children) can be free. Everything was just perfect! Blessed!

We loved staying on the farm with the daily activities going on around us. We stayed with our dogs who were safely enclosed on the large plot with us. The house was comfortable and the views were amazing. We also enjoyed the farm eggs and honey. Very warm hosts. We will go again.
If you come to the Cape side and need to spend the night in the Caledon area, it is highly recommended to spend the night here.
Really a cute place with everything one might need. Very friendly welcome and host and wife put a lot of effort into indicating walking routes and answering our questions. Dogs also enjoyed walking, large fenced lawn, hiking in the mountain, jogging on the farm roads and swimming in the pond. Can definitely recommend Bertus' Huisie.

Absolutely lovely spot to get away for the weekend! The whole house was super clean, fresh clean towels, clean bedding and the kitchen was well equipped! The outside area is well guarded from the wind which made it lovely to sit and relax with a cup of tea and a book! My adult son and I really enjoyed the few days we stayed at Bertus se Huisie. Our dog was so happy being able to run around freely without us having to worry about him as the property is fenced in. We loved that the cottage is simply furnished and beautifully clean. We had everything we needed, comfortable beds, a well equiped kitchen, a lovely inside-outside braai living space and a spacious bathroom with a shower with a strong supply of hot water. The solar energy for lights at night and the peace and quiet without the noise of the city and all its accompanying electronic gadgetry really provided the peace and quiet of the country that we were looking for. We visited Bertus se Huisie about 2 weeks ago and wow! What a great experience. I would recommend this to anyone. Everything you need is supplied. Friendly people on the farm. 2 nice dams for fishing. Both our dogs loved the getaway. We will be back soon for sure!

We all loved the place, especially my oupa who's 81st bday present it was. And I liked that it wasn't a hassle to get around for my grandfather and disabled mommy.
Our second stay here in a few months is how much we enjoyed it. We brought my parents along and they enjoyed it very much! This time we used the indoor fire as it was quite cold and was lovely and cosy in the kitchen. Ps. Glad to say the bike trails have had their signage improved.

Bertus' Huisie is located on a beautiful farm. Here you find rest for your soul. One can look at the mountains for hours, while the goats graze in their camps around the yard and the guinea fowl play around. The longer walking route (7 km) is beautiful and you find yourself in fynbo heaven. Enjoy the bright stars in the evening. Well maintained house with everything you need. Our dogs thoroughly enjoyed the large lawn. We will definitely come again!

What a wonderful four nights we had at Bertus se Huisie. The pictures don't show how amazing the view is from this awesome spot! Sitting on the grass looking out over the hills is so peaceful you can't help but feel relaxed. Every evening spent in front of the fire watching the sun go down. Our dogs loved the garden and had a great variety of walks from the house. We took our mountain bikes and enjoyed riding on the gravel roads which had great views. We also did the red route in the mountain (map available at house and permit at die poskantoor) however it was quite overgrown and easy to get lost. We will be back as soon as we can!
We had a wonderful time relaxing in the beautiful nature with green hills everywhere you look. Everything we wanted. It was freezing cold and rainy outside but we had a good time in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine and board games. When the sun showed its face, the hiking trail up the mountain offered distraction with even more beautiful views of the surroundings.

Really enjoyed our weekend away at Bertus se Huisie. Bertus made us feel very welcome when we arrived and gave us good info on things to see/do while we were there. Nice hiking trail at the back of the farm is worth doing. The stay surpassed our expectations and we had a very relaxing time. The house was quite spacious, with a big bathroom with hot shower and good water pressure. Great braai area, stocked kitchen and plenty of outside area for the dog to run around. Try the honey and eggs produced on the farm - you won’t be disappointed. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
What an amazing awesome place. Love the large open lawn in front of the house. The little house, what is there not to love? The silence, the cleanliness and the house has everything and more. Mom's dog child had free tiles, and my godson who had already had 15 surgeries, our angel child, could be a little boy with us. He wanted us to stay there forever. Whether I would recommend him? A wonderful farm stay with plenty of space to play with the dogs. Tastefully decorated bedroom and bathroom. Hot water. Lovely fireplace area. A wonderful stay. Only downside was loud music/noise from the main farmhouse area in the mornings (maybe church services?) but it was short-lived so not a huge interference. Would go back as we loved it.

Oh, man, was that fun. Bertus's little house is a picture-perfect place with all the amenities one could ask for. The cottage is located on a secluded part of the farm, on a very nice green patch of grass that is very well cared for, and is fully fenced. The house has been redone very nicely! The kitchen has a large enough fridge with freezer that is bitterly cold, a gas stove and an indoor braai. We spent 90% of the time on the porch, which is nicely sheltered and also has a nice braai. Will definitely visit again.
It was very nice to wake up with all the farm sounds. Most beautiful lawn, amenities have the comfort of one's own home. It was very nice.
It's neat and clean with all the amenities you need. It is the perfect setting to take your dogs around with a large lawn and securely fenced with no chance for them to get out. The scenery is incredible and there are 2 short hiking trails on the farm. Just 5 km further is the post office from where we went mountain biking. The routes are not well marked but if you like to explore it is great.
It was a lovely break. The cottage's rooms are separate from the kitchen. So at night we had to walk through the porch to the kitchen which was inconvenient because it was very cold and raining. The kitchenette has a fireplace-inner braai which warmed up nicely, if a door to the bedroom it would have been lovely and warmed the rooms too.

The location is wonderful. So beautiful to see only mountains and fields around you. Not too far from Stanford and Hermanus. The stoep with its nice built-in braai is where we had a good time until late in the evening. We will definitely visit again.

We were worried about the dirt road but that wasn't as big of a problem as we anticipated. I would recommend that anyone looking for a piece of heaven be sure to stay at Bertus se Huisie for a few nights. You'll definitely come back feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. We had a lovely weekend away at Bertus' Huisie. Our children and dogs especially enjoyed the large green lawn. The fenced yard meant that we could leave the dogs with peace of mind and drive out to the Hemel-en-Arde valley for wine tasting. Furthermore, the house was spotless and tidy, and had everything we needed. With the solar panel, you won't even notice that there is no power. Our host Bertus was very friendly and helpful. This suited me perfectly as a first destination on a break from Cape Town. I loved getting off the beaten track and into the Overberg countryside. The cottage is ideal for an individual, a couple or a small family. In addition to a stoep with a braai area, there is a nice big fireplace in the kitchen.
It was an incredible place. It was so picture-perfect you were surprised every morning when you woke up. It is very safe there and very relaxing. Wish I could just stay there for a year. Wonderful getaway spot. They will definitely see us again!

Bertus se Huisie is the perfect place to just relax and experience nature. It is sometimes difficult to find pet-friendly accommodation with secure fencing. The yard has plenty of space for children or a dog to run around. It was a pleasure to stay here and would like to come here again.
Gerhard and Bertus are probably the friendliest and nicest people we have ever met. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The surroundings were picturesque and so peaceful. The solar was no problem, we were there for just under a week and never had a problem. The dog children were welcome, which made New Years that much better. With a nice big yard to play on. A week of reading, grilling and bliss. We will definitely be back! Done talking about when a good time will be this year!

I have no hesitation in recommending Bertus se Huisie which is situated in a beautiful, quiet and secure environment. The facilities are excellent and the hosts are very caring and attentive. Make sure you include a breakfast at the De Postkantoor Cafe in Tesselaarsdal on your trip.
The cottage is beautifully restored and dog friendly. The walking route is breathtakingly beautiful and the best of all were the farm sounds at night, the chatter of guinea fowls, crickets playing the violin at night and skunks kicking nests at night, and of course the expanse, which is a let's-lay-on-the-grass- and look response justified.
Four friends and two dogs all enjoyed their time on this lovely farm. Will return.

We enjoyed our break at Bertus' cottage. Bertus and his Father, "Uncle Gert" are very friendly people and very helpful. They are very friendly and make you feel welcome right away.
Small and intimate kitchenette with outside entertainment area allows you to socialise around the fire (inside and/or outside). The enclosed cottage provided a huge safe playground for the dog and the kids to play soccer while the farm animals grazed around us. The view was breathtaking. Although I had a slight fear of the solar power, we had no problems. Bertus's Huisie also offers the most beautiful, carefree shower with hot water. As a family we spent quality time together.
The house is located in a beautiful valley. It is very comfortable and has everything that you need. It is child-friendly and we had a great time. The host was very accommodating and we enjoyed our stay.

The House is extremely neatly furnished and lovely cozy to stay in with an incredible view over the farm and surrounding valley. Bertus was a very pleasant host. Thank you for allowing our dogs to come along! I will inform guests that the route to the cottage runs over a dirt road - it's still easily accessible by any car, but be careful. Also make sure the pin is accurate, we got pretty lost on the way! I would definitely recommend Bertus' Huisie and look forward to staying there again one day!
We enjoyed the time with you so much. It's perfect if you just want to get away for a few days. We would highly recommend Bertus' cottage and would love to visit again. This is an excellent choice if you want to take your dog/s with you. There is plenty of room for them and the yard is closed so they can run around to their heart's content.
From the beginning we received very good service from Bertus and he was very accommodating with requests. We could easily get in touch with him and he was ready to help. The house itself is very neat and comfortable and is located on a large plot, which was ideal for our dogs to run around a lot. Although it was very windy during our visit, you could still comfortably hang out inside the cottage with the most necessary facilities. We had a fantastic time at Bertus se Huisie. The cottage is lovingly decorated and is ideal for a family with children. No appliances are allowed as the cottage is on solar energy. Remember to arrive well stocked on groceries etc. as there is little to buy in Tesselaarsdal and Stanford ─ Caledon and Hermanus are a distance away.
We booked 2 nights at Bertus' cottage to be able to celebrate my 30th birthday with rest, calm and quiet - and that was what I was looking for! The dirt road from Caledon is beautifully scraped and with the incredible landscape to look at, the drive to Bertus and cottage does not feel far at all. We have a Polo and never had any problems with the road. Bertus sent me a Whatsapp pin early on the morning we were to check in so that we could find them easily, which I really appreciated. As far as the house is concerned - it's beautiful, nice and tidy and looks just like on the website. I've read some of the other reviews, and can see that changes have been made as suggested by previous guests (eg the outdoor barbecue area is half enclosed by windows that can be opened, which helps on windy nights, like both nights we there was). The kitchen is well equipped with a large fridge, and we cooked well - although I would have liked a proper wine glass for my glass of red with the fire! Only minor annoyance was the double bed mattress - it's a very soft and bouncy mattress and we're used to something a little harder. But problem was easily solved by going to sleep on the second night in the single room with hard mattresses! Truly a wonderful escape from the city. Would definitely recommend.
We were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the whole area is now there with the canola fields turning yellow as well as the beautiful location of the cottage itself. All question we had is that there was nowhere indicated where we had to report when we got there and met no one. We then went straight to the cottage and found it clean, tidy and unlocked. Luckily the security gate was open when we got there. We first found the remote control for the gate inside the cottage. As for the cottage itself, there really was absolutely nothing we could fault. Everything you need is available and the rooms and beds were very comfortable with good quality bedding. There is also a great deal to see and do in the nearby area if you decide not to just relax at the cottage. It is so quiet and peaceful that it would definitely provide rest for the soul. I see people complain about the dirt road to it but we found the road to be in excellent condition and drive through the most beautiful surroundings. All in all it was a great experience, but I'm too scared to recommend it because I want to keep it a secret to myself!
With the costs involved with dog caregivers you have to organise if you want to break away, I was so grateful for a house where the dogs could not only come with, but where they could also be safe. The beautiful cement floors never made me feel that the the dogs had to be outside or that I had to clean them all the time. The peacocks and guineafowl kept my dogs happy and Bella was watching them (from behind the fence running around the garden) move to the trees - free entertainment! The cottage has what one would need, and the fridge is great with a freezer for ice cream! The bed slept very comfortably and the room was spacious. Wish we have discovered this place years ago!
Had a very nice stay and well equipped.
Everything was just perfect from arrival until departure! Travelled with my four furry girls (dogs) who absolutely loved the spacious enclosed garden. No worry that they would run away or get lost. The views from the cottage are breath taking and the sunsets even more beautiful. The farm itself is spectacular. Lovely to have the option to braai indoors or outdoors especially when it is cold, one gets to sit in front of a roaring indoor fire. Comfy beds, lovely bathroom. Definitely return for a visit. Only concern, small children being shut off from main bedroom (parents), perhaps a door from second room into bathroom could be considered. All else perfect! Recommended to all my friends.
What a lovely little house! The service was excellent from the first inquiries we made. The house is very well furnished, neat and clean and has a lovely view. The kitchen has everything you need. The stoep area with the braai is delicious. The gas geyser also works fantastically and the shower is wonderfully warm and comfortable. We will definitely use Bertus' Huisie again. Thank you very much for the wonderful weekend!
Bertus is a great host (nothing is too much trouble). Als is just as it was described - clean, tidy and comfortable. The outside patio braai area is especially lovely. It is very centrally located between Caledon, Hermanus, Stanford etc. Had a wonderful stay, rested and explored the area. We strongly recommend Bertus' Huisie!

We had a great time in Bertus' Huisie. An absolute gem with dead silence and tranquility around you. Our two dogs were also with us and enjoyed it just as much - massive lawn to run around. We will definitely stay here again when we want to get away from the city life and just relax.
We really enjoyed the weekend on the farm. Our two Husky dogs loved the large yard. The house was clean and tidy. Will want to go again!

If you are looking for food for your soul and rest for your body, Bertus's cottage is the perfect place to go. We will drive the dirt road again and again to visit the piece of "Heaven". PS: We saw quite a few bees, but probably the time of year.
My wife Amanda and I, and our two dogs, were received very kindly and were soon chatting as if we had known each other for a long time. Als is made so neat and comfortable inside and outside the house. Nice outdoor barbecue on the stoep and well protected from the south wind and weather without confining you. Dogs could run around and are very safe. If there is water in the small pond and you like to catch bass, just take your rod with you. Pulled out a 1.45kg one on first cast on Saturday morning! I definitely recommend this place to someone who loves nature and silence.
Our dog children enjoyed the large lawn. Friendly service. Will definitely visit again! Want to get away from city life? This place is for sure the answer. Everything you need just to rest a little, and turn off the rush of life. The nature is beautiful. Several bird species. Hiking trails, and so much space for the dog children to play. Very neat and well equipped. The braai room is a winner! Friendly and good service. Thanks Bertus, we will definitely visit you again!

We wanted out of the city, no light pollution no people and no traffic, Bertus se Huisie gave us all of that in abundance. Die Huisie was spik and span, and very nicely taken care of. We loved the outside fireplace, we spent both nights lolling in front of a roaring fire after our braai dinner made on the indoor braai which was fantastic. Both rooms were done out very nicely I especially loved the spacious shower. Bertus himself was lovely, such a nice friendly and open man, and on hand if you needed anything. And my I recommend the Café de Postkantoor, what a divine breakfast and Sonja, what a wonderful lady, much loved by her customers, her husband is the chef and oh boy what a feast we had. We had an awesome time and we will certainly be back, I had to drag my boyfriend away, I think he wanted to set up house and start farming with Bertus.
Bertus' Huisie is for those who want to be alone with their loved ones in a quiet beautiful environment. It's a safe "soul-soothing" environment. Perfect place for peace and quiet from the hectic life. Thanks Bertus, it was really a pleasure!
Bertus was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the stay. One has nice space and privacy. The only potential downside is that it is quite a distance from places like Stanford and Hermanus. On the other hand, it is very well priced.
The dirt road to the cottage was a bit long, but the location of the cottage is perfect. Breathtakingly beautiful mountains, friendly guests. It was lovely to have privacy and still be safe to walk around the farm. Facilities were ideal for a romantic weekend getaway. We want to go again soon!
The cottage is very pleasant and you feel completely safe and comfortable We will definitely stay there again. It’s so nice to stay in a fully solar cottage and the views are stunning. I would recommend to everyone.
We are not terribly fond of dirt road or mud road. Fortunately, the roads are in fairly good condition. A lot of flies on the farm, so take extra spray with you. Solar power is easily done in the evening when, for example, music is played. It would be nice if Bertus would also provide candles. We like candlelight and a fireplace. Furthermore, we had a great time and rested well.
Good location for getting away from a hectic lifestyle.
The layout of this little house is unusual but it has character and is neat and well-equipped. The stoep is beautiful and the view from the cottage is too! Just the place to recharge one's batteries.
We stayed a few nights in Bertus' Huisie over Christmas and it was wonderful! The simplicity, silence, and mountains are very special. From here we drove around the area every day and it's easy to get to Hemel en Aarde, wine tasting, Hermanus and the sea even though it's a long dirt road. It is perfect for running and mountain biking and the kids were able to cycle on the dirt paths around the house. The cottage has everything you need and was beautifully clean and comfortable. Bertus was excellent with directions and all the arrangements and making sure we had everything we needed. If you ever need to stay in this area we can definitely recommend it.
Bertus' Huisie may think of covering the side on the stoep between the braai and the kitchen with a canvas. Just to block the wind on the stoep, especially when there is a barbecue. The canvas can be raised again if there is no wind. Otherwise it's a very nice place.

This charming cottage comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a kitchen. The first bedroom is furnished with a double bed, and the second bedroom has 2 single beds. The rooms share the use of a bathroom which is fitted with a shower, a basin, as well as a toilet, and a door leading to the bedrooms. Please note that the bedrooms and kitchen lead onto the patio which connects them. There is no interior connection between the bedrooms and kitchen.
The well-equipped kitchenette contains a gas stove, a fridge with a freezer box, and an indoor braai. Powered by a solar system for lights, the cottage is not equipped with Eskom power and unfortunately, no electric appliances are allowed; cellphones may only be charged during sunshine hours.
Leading out from the home is a verandah, and a covered braai area next to the kitchen. The cottage is fenced around which makes it ideal for pets. Unfortunately, no loud music is allowed but there is a church and a school camping terrain close by, so musical instruments will be played from time to time.
Guests can enjoy activities like running, cycling or hiking up the farm mountain and mountain biking and hiking in Tesselaarsdal can be arranged at De Poskantoor Coffee Shop.
The property is within close proximity to Tesselaarsdal, Liefland wedding venue, Oudekraal wedding venue and Hemel en Aarde valley. For those wanting to take a drive, you can visit Hermanus, The Caledon Casino and Spa, Stanford or Oystercatcher Wines, Bredasdorp.
