Bethany Farm

The farm and accommodation are not luxurious, it is simple and basic and down to earth. The road is not suitable for cars with low ground clearance. It is suited to people who love the countryside and appreciate the silence. The house is surrounded by trees, plants and animals, with a variety of walking trails to keep guests busy and a farm dam to cool off in.
This basic granny flat features a double bed and a mattress on the floor upon request. The open-plan living area has a view of the trees around the house, and the kitchen is equipped with a 2-plate gas stove, a fridge as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities. Private, outdoor braai facilities are provided and parking is available under the trees.
Bethany Farm functions on solar energy and makes use of LED lights and kerosene lamps. For those who are not familiar with solar energy, this means that 220 V power is available in the day from about an hour after the sun rises up to 2 hours after sunset. No equipment heavy on electricity use may be used here, this includes irons and hair dryers. Lighting works on a separate system, and that is available 24 hours a day.
The farm also grows its own fruit and vegetables and bottles their own olives. They still milk a couple of cows by hand and makes their own cheese and feta, mills their own grain, bakes bread and makes wine as well. Those that are interested in permaculture, water usage, compost, earthworms, chickens and more will appreciate everything on offer at Bethany Farm.

18 guests' feedbackLegendary hosting from Jakes. He showed us around thoroughly, explaining everything about his farm and animals. They baked us a bread. They recommended really good locations for coffee and food around the area. It was a peaceful place. Great for relaxation. Great value for money.
So enjoyed a peaceful sleep with only cool mountain whispering overhead. Most interesting ideas from ram pumps to plant biology from Jakes. Many thanks to the hosts.
Perfect, peaceful, quiet.
The farm is situated in a tricky to get to part, but once you get there you are greeted so warmly by the host. The place is absolutely breathtaking and worth the trip. Value for money guaranteed.
Come and experience life on a smallholding owned by people who march to no drum but their own. Everything on this tiny piece of paradise has been planted and built by Jakes and Linda and their seven home-schooled children. Don't expect synthetic grandeur or glitz. In fact, apart from the very comfortable bed and cotton linen, don't expect anything first-world. Rather, expect much, much more in the way of soul food and honest-to-God living. Every detail has been thought of, down to a bouquet of the sweetest-smelling, old-fashioned wild roses and a huge pot of Pride of Madeira. And Linda's unsurpassable home-baked bread.
Attentive, friendly host, beautiful farm, great off the grid experience.
The room and braai area is wonderful and cosy. The people are fantastic. Truly a place that you should go for off-the-grid relaxing time. If you have any interest in self sufficiency and eco friendly practices it is a must. Very rustic, but that adds to the charm. We will definitely be going there again.
We had a wonderful time at Bethany Farm. Surrounded and embraced with nature and tranquility. Jakkie and Linda is beautiful people, grounded and hearty. Everything was neat and we needed for nothing. We where spoiled with a freshly baked and delightful seed bread. We enjoyed apricot jam and fetta cheese made by our hosts. Bethany Farm are for the individuals that still embraces nature and values tranquility. Jakke and Linda, we wil see you again. It was a privilege.
The accommodation was picture perfect, inside and out. Jakes eagerly shared his experience around permaculture and we learned a lot of wisdom that we eagerly want to apply. Pronto, the friendly dog, stole our hearts. We were given a delicious warm, home-baked bread upon reception and even enjoyed fresh milk on request. Highly recommended!
If you are tired of the city noise and looking for a good place to wind down and read a good book, this is it. You can wake up with the sound of farm animals getting ready for the day. The hosts were super helpful and made us feel at home. I can't wait to go stay there again.
For a minimalist this is awesome, inexpensive, quiet place. Keep in mind that it's a farm, so expect rustic old school stuff. The owner is friendly and willing to tell you about the farm.
We drove past first, because the entrance looked unkempt and not like it could be the place to stay the night. The yard in which the residence is located looks untidy, but the inside of the residence is very neat and pleasant. Jakes was very friendly and helpful.
Excellent -- beautiful house and location. Quiet and peaceful with lots of trees.
The owner is a very nice man who really tries to make you feel comfortable.
So peaceful on the farm. Ideal place if you need to get away from the city and all the noise. Stunning nature and the owner and his family put in a lot of effort to make the place so nice. So inspiring and the place is full of character. Exactly what we needed for a getaway to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
Very tucked away in stunning surroundings. Not smart - very basic. Wonderful if you like the back to the old days experience. Owner very generous with his permaculture knowledge and willingness to explain it. Peace and quiet to the ultimate degree.
Perfect place if you want to get away from everything. It is quiet, the folks are friendly and it is in nature. The owners know the meaning of hospitality. Lovely! Delicious preserves and figs and the rusks were divine.
