Lynette was very friendly and helpful. The yard is safe and the self-catering unit was clean. We had a peaceful night's rest. Would have loved to stay longer.

Bietjies Akkommodasie was busy with fence construction around, but the owner took us to their other family property - that's all accommodation. Without further extra costs. Accommodation was like a sea house. Safety only a concern as there is no parking behind a gate.

McDougalls Bay is a beautiful coastal town, but the accommodation was somewhat disappointing. There is no hand soap or sanitizer, not a single shelf in the bathroom and no hanging cabinets. For a backpacker or younger people who don't mind living out of a suitcase it might be acceptable, but my girlfriend is 82 and found it inconvenient. In addition, the description on the website is vague - basically you have to take everything but toilet paper and washing-up liquid with you. It wasn't until the sixth day that someone contacted us and asked if they could come clean the unit and bring fresh towels. There are also no burglar bars in front of the windows, so for safety's sake you have to close all the windows at night, even if it's hot and stuffy.

We didn't stay in Bietjies, because it's on the side of town where we felt unsafe. We called the owners who then moved us to Dis Al, where we had a nice stay. The cleaners should clean the floors better with clean water and soap. Mary, who is in charge of the units, was very helpful and friendly. We are grateful that the owners moved us to Dis Al.

We really had a good stay. Would've liked to stay longer, but circumstances didn't allow for it. Would recommend my friends to this place. Value for money and excellent service. Would recommend the following: light at the braai and a notice outside to indicate that you may only park in front of the chalet. Parking either side is prohibited. My car got stuck, but with the help of friends it was quickly released.

Everything was well organized, and the reception friendly and efficient. Bietjie Hie is small and cramped, but sufficient for an overnight stay for four. The place is well equipped.

In our opinion, the unit is reasonable if staying for a day or at most two days, because it is quite cramped inside. Noisy shutter doors and bathroom door cannot close. No proper wardrobes in rooms, you live out of your suitcase. Kitchen equipment relatively limited. After the second day of no power and water, we decided to pack up a day earlier and go home.

"Our holiday there was as the name says, Bit nice."

This is really a basic self catering place. What bothered us the most was the fact that the bathroom door was broken and could not close properly. The bin had no lid and no sharp knives. Our car got stuck in the sand pit next to the cottage. The noise from the people racing their scramblers, quads and others on the dunes in front of and next to the house was almost too much for us. Furthermore, the electricity was off more than it was on. We had to sort out a blocked/clogged drain. The mosquitoes were also just too bad. It's not on the beach but at least not too far from it either. Unfortunately, we did not have a nice stay here.

Very cramped, smells of a fireplace, very hot and no fan/ air-con, can’t leave windows open, very exposed to theft possibilities, no burglar proofing.

The place was clean and tidy and the management was helpful and friendly. My car got stuck in the sand next to the unit and they sent someone to tow me out after a phone call. The "walking distance from the beach" is a slight exaggeration because it creates the impression that one can see the sea from the accommodation but this is not the case. Die Bietjies is the furthest one can stay from the sea in McDougals bay (but it is still within walking distance). In terms of amenities there are a few things that could be looked into: The boiler in our unit was not working and the power kicked out. We used the boiler next door (fortunately there were no residents next door during our stay). The TV didn't work. The cables seem to have loose connections somewhere (both units, we checked). The image is static for 2 minutes while there is sound and then the sound and image go away and then the sound comes back and then a static image. The hearth is nice and big and we used it well. The problem is that the chimney is open to the top without a wind guide. If the wind blows the wrong way then the smoke blows back into the unit. Then all the doors and windows must be opened. There must be a strong draft through the unit so we had to keep the bathroom window open the whole time. If it's cold, it's a problem. Apart from the three things, we had a nice stay and enjoyed our time.
