Accommodation was very good.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The rondavel where I stayed was not what I originally asked for.
Lodging and breakfast were adequate. Toaster did not work.
The kitchen is advertised as fully equipped, but there were only 2 glasses, 2 forks, 3 knives, 2 teaspoons, no other kitchen utensils, not even a dish towel or washcloth. If unit is advertised for 4 we would prefer to please. 4 of everything to get there. Oven not working, no extra blankets, we had to ask for our towels back every night. Pillows very mushy and uncomfortable.
No extra blanket for cold. Cleaning workers make a lot of noise throughout the afternoon. No candles. TV's channels are pathetic.
Nice place to sleep near the highway.
See stars.
Was baie nice gewees.
Great for families with small children too! Food fantastic. Service amazing and friendly. Location perfect, gardens well maintained.
We were well received. Unfortunately the Bistro wasn't open on Sunday night, so we had to make another plan. Rooms were neat and comfortable. The area was quiet and located in a complex.
We booked at Biggy Best because of the location, which was convenient for where our family live (we stayed in the Coach House). So the location was perfect for us, with the cottages a little out of the centre of Howick in a quiet, pleasant location. Surroundings are lovely, with rabbits, ducks, a rooster and a pea hen wandering around, and the complex is gated. Staff were very helpful and friendly too. So almost everything was positive. But: The place is run down and in need of "refreshing" (a paint job throughout wouldn't go amiss, and some general maintenance to improve the overall appearance of the Coach House interior is needed). The kitchen is cramped for 3 people and in need of some TLC and rejigging so that more than 1 person at a time can be in the room. The bath is very badly scratched and marked, which is not very appealing! And the bathroom urgently needs a re-vamp. The unit is poorly equipped for self-catering (we had 2 tiny pots, no pans, 1 teaspoon, 3 forks, and no knives in a 4-sleeper unit). The neighbouring unit has their outdoor space directly outside the dressing area and bathroom (so we had to close the curtains every time someone bathed, and could hear the entire conversation if they went outside to talk on the phone). And the carpet was filthy! I took my shoes off at the door so that I wouldn't walk dirt into the place, and in just the 20 m walk through the bedroom to the bathroom, my white socks were completely filthy underneath! At the very least a steam clean is needed - or perhaps another type of flooring that's more easy to clean (tiles or laminate?) would be more hygienic. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Howick, because we were out visiting and sight-seeing for most of the time. But I probably wouldn't stay at Biggy Best when we return to the Howick area.
Cute little place, just needs a little TLC, but was clean and tidy and breakfast was delicious!
Not run well at all. The room wasn't ready when we arrived. Restaurant couldn't even make us a cup of tea while we waited. No towels in the room. Had to ask for toilet paper. Generally not a great experience unfortunately, surroundings and cottages are nice but not run well at all.
It has really been a pleasure to stay here. The person on duty called me when he saw that I was late and gave directions over the phone. He made us feel right at home. In future, we'll always use these cottages as stopover accommodation.
Reception was warm and service efficient. Room very neat, clean and tasteful. Breakfast was tasty and balanced.
The service at the bistro was pathetic. The waiter/receptionists' service was bad. The milkshake was made with sour milk and the beer was warm. The steak was delicious and well prepared.
Rooms comfortable. Sheets had holes in them. Linen no longer pure white, full of stains. Breakfast was delicious and well prepared.
I have to admit that one notices the garden immediately upon entering the premises. Just a shame that everything looks neglected. I got the feeling that the owners at the beginning developed and managed it with dedication and that the novelty of a guest house, like many other guest houses, disappeared over time. The feeling of "left to the mercy of the manager and staff" immediately came to mind. The garden is dirty and there is litter everywhere. The old blue caravan standing there creates a poor impression! The buildings need a new coat of paint and the thatched roofs a decent comb. I would not recommend Biggie Best to travelers at all!
Clean, beautiful accommodation. Can't wait to sleep over there again!
Please see our rating.
Cute accommodation, neat and beautiful.
Served its purpose. People very pleasant and helpful.
The accommodation was definitely just for 3 people even though we booked for 5. The Loft room where the kids had to sleep had gross mattresses on the floor and a blanket and pillow. No bed covers. We had to ask for 2 more towels. It looked like somebody moved out for the night so that we can sleep there because there were shoes in front of the bed and the fridge and carpets still dirty. There was dust and spider webs in the corners where we moved a chair away. I had to ask for Doom to get the spiders out of the loft room so that the kids could sleep in there after it was closed for way too long. The place definitely has potential.
Staff members were very friendly. Room was nice and big. Brilliant bathroom. Thank you for a lovely stay!
The reception was warm and the rooms were very neat and well equipped. Definitely good value for money. There were 2 things that I also mentioned on Trip Advisor. 1. The bathroom should be treated with a good "mould buster" and an exhaust fan should be installed. The musty smell of the bathroom was quite strong. 2. The guests in room 1 had their puppy there. I couldn't see anywhere on the booking that the place is pet friendly. I love my dog very much, who is not allowed on furniture and beds. I would not have booked there if I had known that pets were allowed there. I don't like to sleep in a bed where pets have slept.
I just feel that the amenities are a little lacking. The storage space is minimal, everything has to be put down on the floor. There is only one narrow shelf in the room for the tea and coffee. Furthermore, there is no mirror in the room and I expected a hair dryer.
A table and chair with a mirror is important for doing work and blowing hair. The small shelf with the boiler is awkward and dangerous to work on. A fan in the bathroom is needed to extract steam.
Very pleasant and clean!
On arrival, the service was friendly, but the sheets were dirty as well as the bath.
If you like parties in the parking area of the guest house with loud music playing from cars, shouting and breaking of bottles and smoking in the corridors, then this is just the guest house for you.
