These rustic beach front units have been up and running for 21 years and are typical beach cottages. The bathrooms and kitchens are a bit outdated but they are working and fully functional.
Black Rock Beach Cottage is a double storey house with a separate little flat in the garden and is situated right on the beach front. The top section sleeps 10, the bottom section sleeps 6 and the little flatlet sleeps 4. These units can be booked separately or as a whole unit sleeping up to 20 people.
The top section comprise 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, lounge area, dining room and a lovely bar area that leads onto a sundeck with a built-in braai, and a lovely view of the ocean. The bottom section comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom with extra toilet, fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast nook, lounge area, and its own braai area.
The flatlet comprises 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, open-plan kitchen and lounge area, and its own braai area. Although this unit is right on the beach front, it does not have a sea view.
The property is fenced, has an alarm system to armed response, burglar bars on all the windows as well as security gates on all the doors.
The endless beaches of Zinkwazi is perfect for fishing, swimming, surfing, diving or just walking and for bird watching enthusiasts. There are 180 different species of bird life in the area. Zinkwazi is also close to Zululand's wealth of splendid game reserves, 2 being the Umfolozi and the Prince's Grant. For the historians there are several historical sights like The Ultimatum Tree and Fort Pearson.

The apartment is spacious and everything you need is available. The surroundings are wonderfully quiet and the beach was easily accessible.

Toilet paper could have left more than one roll per bathroom, because the stay was not for that long and because a R500.00 cleaning fee is asked. Photos must be taken from their website as there is no pool. Suggestion is for a folding laundry drying rack, because it rained a bit. Nowhere is there room for the swimming towels to hang up. The large trash can in the kitchen was a plus. Other than that, the stay was good.

No, the stay was disappointing. The photos on the website are misleading. This is not at all how we imagined the place. The guard on the yard occasionally received visitors on Sunday. Every time you're there, there's a new face on the lot. It made us feel unsafe, as well as no privacy. The yard and house need a lot of "TLC". There is a lot of potential if managed correctly. A lot of building debris lying around unnecessarily. It is a danger to small children.

Larger units have a nice outdoor space, but not the garden apartment. You hang out under the carafe roof which is a shame. No permanent grilling, just drag the little grill where you want it. Place has a fantastic location and excellent service. But it needs some renovation. The roof leaked from the many rains for example. Would definitely go again but don't expect any luxuries.

We were a group of 7 adults (4 parents and 3 teenagers) and took advantage of the larger upper part of the property. The very spacious unit was neat and clean upon our arrival. There is really very spacious and big space, and we had a great time. The spacious balcony with sea view was a bonus, and we could also see and hear the sea clearly from the large living area. The unit is well equipped with the essentials. We felt very safe during our stay with a security guard checking in regularly in the evening. Other guests in the other 2 smaller units were very quiet and friendly, and there is enough privacy for everyone as the yard is very large. There is also ample parking for many vehicles. The large lawn provides plenty of space for children to play, and the garden gate provides direct access to a beautiful clean and safe wide expanse of beach. The swimming beach is approximately 300 meters from the property and a real oasis by the lagoon. There are really so many positive aspects that it is difficult to point out any negatives. The bathroom/shower facilities in the upper unit are very nice, and guests should use the master bedroom's en-suite bathroom as an additional convenience. The second bedroom is also very small and cramped, and could potentially be very hot in the summer. All in all, Black Rock Cottage is a delightfully peaceful holiday destination. We would definitely like to visit again. The service from the owner Marc and the agent Tracy was exceptionally friendly and professional. Thank you guys!
The shower needs attention. Tracy said they would definitely address it. Would recommend the place anytime. The fact that you walk through the garden gate to the beach was fantastic. Beach is clean and neat.
The location is excellent and the access to the beach was great. The accommodation was okay except that it was not said that there was a guard staying on the premises. The person's room was directly next to our braai area and the person moved through our private visiting area. The tumble dryer was also broken so we couldn't use it.
This residential unit is a lovely getaway home. Spacious and clean, although the bathroom is very impractical. It's nice by the beach and the lawn in front of the house is ideal for ball games and hanging out under the trees. If you want to come to rest and be close to the beach, this is the ideal home.
The shops and garage is far so I recommend taking everything along. Quiet beach and lots of rocks but it doesn't bother me, I enjoy hearing every wave.
We really enjoyed the weekend. The accommodation is comfortable and the service helpful. The only property of the house that affects privacy is that the residence can accommodate more than one group of guests. PS: I also didn't read correctly and overlooked the R500 cleaning administration fee, which cut my budget a bit.
Bed in master bedroom is very small and TV's sound was not good. Furthermore, we had a nice stay as a family. Overall it's a nice place. Shopping center will definitely make the place more popular.
We (my wife and I and grandson with friends) enjoyed the stay. It is close to the beach and just far enough so that the kids won't get there by accident. Big lawn. We had a nice stay. All of the facilities are there. Will stay there again.
