This was an amazing experience, the accommodation was beautiful with everything you need. You really relax and unwind at Blackwoods, very safe and well-located. Friendly management and very helpful.
We had such a great time at Blackwood Farms, it's beautiful there. One feels so at home and there is everything you need. The dog children are also so beautiful. Will definitely visit again.
Warmly welcomed by Carol, Charles and the dogs. Extremely clean and well-equipped house with all the little details that make for a wonderful time on the farm. We enjoyed a lovely, quiet weekend and next time bring the children along for a walk and bike ride. Thank you very much to you.

What a delight the cottage was! It is on a working farm, completely independent of Eskom. With lovely views and where your soul can rest and recover. It is at the foot of a hill and we walked there with the farm dogs, and I wish I could stay there for a week. The hostess was very friendly and the place was equipped with absolutely everything you need!
Blackwood farm has beautiful views. We enjoyed daily walks on the farm and watching the sunset.

We had a wonderful weekend on this farm. The cottage has a fantastic view, and was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. The hosts, Carol and Charlie, were friendly and hospitable and we enjoyed the dogs and farm animals. We could go for hikes on the farm and relax on the stoep. The cottage is well equipped with attention to detail, and the beds are warm and cosy. The fireplace was a bonus! Will definitely visit again.

We had a wonderful weekend. What a pleasure to start the day with coffee and biscuits on the porch and hear the sounds of the farm, the call of geese and other birds. And in the evening seeing the cattle come home, the horse coming to try to open the gate for a rogue visit. This is a working farm with peaceful accommodation for the guests. And close enough to Clarens and Fouriesburg to do some window shopping. Even a visit to Afriski is easily achievable.
If you want to hear and experience silence this is the place to be. The owners' hospitality was beyond measure. It was an exceptional visit and will definitely go again.

The accommodation was very pleasant, the cottage had everything we needed, and it was very neat and clean.
Here we will pack up again for peace and quiet. The Cottage is sparkling clean with quality linen. The wood stove in the Cottage makes the evenings nice and warm. The view is indescribably beautiful. Friendly and considerate owners who took care of all our needs. We went for a walk on the farm and did not feel unsafe for a moment. We were also only 30 km from Clarens and could easily visit there for the day. Thank you very much Carol.
Relaxing comfortable venue.
Charlie was extremely helpful and accommodating. When I visit that area again I will definitely stay there again. It would be very nice to just go there for a week to catch your breath.

This is a working cattle farm with a unique herd. Plenty of places to walk, farm animals to see and interesting things to learn. The cottage is beautiful with great attention to detail. This farm is near the highest vineyard in South Africa, close to Clarens and the Golden Gate National Park.
The cottage is stunning. The farm itself is absolutely breathtaking. The hosts were amazingly kind and so accommodating. They think of everything and they really make you feel at home. It is quiet and tranquil and you get so much privacy. We enjoyed long hikes, beautiful sunrises and a chance to completely recharge. I love this place.

We had a lovely stay in the Antique Cottage, Carol made sure all necessary amenities were provided for and the cozy wood burner was perfect for the chilly evenings. Really comfortable and well catered for, dogs loved the freedom walks.
We had an amazing 4 days! My partner and I definitely recommend the lovely Blackwoods Cottage Farm. It truly felt like home away from home, outside the noisy, busy city life, surrounded by peace and quiet partnered with the beautiful mountains and active farm life. We stayed in the antique cottage and I must say our whole expectation was immeasurably exceeded by how beautiful everything was. The vintage feel, stone walls, neatness, the decor, the views - all amazing. I look forward to returning in the future to visit my family away from home. 20 to 30 minutes drive from Clarens. Definitely a must for the lover of nature seeking peace and serenity, and a break from city life.
The farm is picturesque. The guest house has everything one needs to enjoy a long weekend. The fireplace stove was a winner along with the board games in the evenings. Carol and Charlie went to great lengths so that we could really just relax.

We felt so at home. Carol and Charlie put so much effort into us. The cottage had so many extras, from milk in the fridge to soap, as well as shower soap. The linen, towels were some of the best. We will definitely make this one of our regular getaway spots. The silence and safety are priceless. No doubt the best accommodation we have stayed in! This is the nicest appointed accommodation we have ever been in and we travel a lot. In the winter fantasies with its fireplace as well as the beautiful skylights that you can experience the Free State stars. The fresh, neat house stole our hearts. Excellent value for money. The road to the cottage is also very nice to drive. The cottage's breakware as well as stock in it is everything you need and so much more. Can highly recommend the accommodation. Wonderful host and hostess who make so much effort for you.
Blackwoods Farm is at the foot of beautiful mountains, we went for a walk up the mountain and there is so much nature to see. The farm itself has cows, horses, dogs, chickens, cats and a pig roaming the forest - more than enough animals for you to see and the dogs to walk with you! There is a farm pond with a tree swing. The cottage has a lovely warm fireplace and private veranda with excellent sunsets every evening. There is wood for your braai and the kitchen is properly equipped. The rooms have only the best duvet and warm, fluffy, blankets. Ask Carol to tell you more about the area and remember dinosaurs walked here. We wish we could stay longer and will miss our new dog friends!

The place surprised me for how beautiful it is. Incredibly clean, excellently equipped with appliances. This place is located just above the foot of the mountain, which makes the evenings and mornings very pleasant. Expect to drive dirt road up the mountain, I was able to do it slowly and comfortably with an air sniffer. I can't wait to go back. If you don't like farm, I don't suggest it to you.
The premises' dogs are welcome. But it is not said that the owners have 4 large boerboel type dogs which are not too friendly. My puppy was bitten on arrival. With that we had to cut the 3 days short and return home to our vet the next day. An expensive lesson learned.
We can recommend Blackwood cottage with all our heart. It is very tastefully decorated, everything you need is there, very comfortable. It is the perfect place to unwind. So many possibilities to go for a walk or just relax on the lovely stoep and enjoy the view. Carol and everybody on the farm were so welcoming and friendly. We felt very much at home. Thank you!

Wow, we really enjoyed our stay at Blackwoods! The farm is so beautiful and the cottage has a breathtaking view of the valley. The cottage is neat and clean, and it is so nicely furnished with everything you could need. Bev welcomed us with open arms, and Carol and Charlie (the owners) were just as hospitable. We really enjoyed the company of the two dogs, Rose and Jasper. In addition, there were many cute cats, horses, cattle, sheep and even a pig that entertained us. We were only there for 3 nights, but we relaxed so much it felt like we were there for a week! We would recommend Blackwoods Farm Cottage to anyone who needs a break from the city noise. My only complaint is that we couldn't have stayed longer!
The most wonderful sandstone formations complimented by the flowing green hills. Peace on earth where one can wake up with the cows that moo and the horses that neigh. The ideal, central accommodation to explore the Eastern Free State.

The day of our departure was filled with sadness, because the cottage began to feel like our own home.

Very peaceful farm. Towards the Malutiberge. 5 km out of town and 12 km from Caledonspoort border post. House is equipped with everything one could need.
If you are looking for peace and tranquillity then this is definitely the place to go. The only sounds you hear are the animals and the wind blowing through the trees. The view is beautiful. This is the perfect place to break away from the busy city life. The unit itself was excellent, it is spacious yet cosy. It is well equipped with everything you need and more and very clean. It felt like a home away from home. The staff, especially Bev, was extremely friendly and welcoming - even the animals came to say hello a few times. Our little city dogs also had a wonderful time on the farm and enjoyed experiencing the animals and running around freely on the farm. We had a wonderful stay and will be back soon.

The road leading up to the cottage is an adventure in itself - the surroundings are awesome and peaceful and the beautiful sunrise and sunset are wonderful. The cottage is charming, neat as a pin, has comfy beds with crisp clean linen and just simply homey. It's the best 'hidden secret' I have found to date.
It was a wonderful weekend. A short distance from Fouriesburg, but no noise, only farm sounds. The house is wonderful and equipped in a practical way. There's even a pressure cooker in the cupboard. More than enough blankets for the cold evenings as well as a fireplace with enough wood. Lovely atmosphere. The owners, caretaker and workers are terribly friendly, but do not disturb your privacy. From every window is a wonderful view. Free State at its best. If you are looking for peace and quiet, then this is the place for you.
The cottage is ideally located, with a beautiful view of the mountains and valley. Nice furniture and facilities, very tidy. The horses walk around past the porch. There are friendly dogs and cats, and cattle, chickens and geese. Truly a classic Free State farm. The manager helped us in every way. I just want to suggest that a sign be put up at the turn off road. Value for money!
The accommodation is very well equipped with everything one could possibly need. Very quiet and very beautiful surroundings. The farm activities do not intrude on the tranquility. Definitely a place I would visit again, as well as recommend.
