This double-storey, thatched-roof, fisherman-cottage style apartment comprises 2 bedrooms, with spacious inter-leading balconies. The first bedroom is furnished with a queen-sized bed and has an en-suite fitted with a bath. The second bedroom has 2 single beds. There is a bathroom downstairs fitted with a shower. All bedding and bath towels are included.
A steep staircase leads to a loft area with a skylight and an open-plan kitchen and lounge area. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering and contains a stove, oven, fridge-freezer, and microwave. There is also a breakfast bar with stools. The lounge has a comfy corner couch and a flat-screen TV with selected DStv channels. The living area opens up onto a lovely wooden deck which has outdoor furniture and overlooks both the Breede River and the Indian Ocean.
The apartment is located within less than a few metres from a restaurant, a bar with several TVs to watch sport, both leading onto a view deck overlooking the river. Guests can make use of the communal swimming pool at the lodge which also has views of the river and ocean.

61 guests' feedbackWe had a nice stay, there were only little things that bothered us. There were not enough warm blankets. There was a loud water drip in the small bathroom which bothered us at night, and the high chairs on the porch were broken.

Stunning cosy place with great view.
Therese who received us is very friendly and helpful. She helped at very short notice with accommodation for an additional person who came along. The lodge is very neat and has everything you need. Very close to sea and restaurant. Nice view.
Staying at the Blue Bayou at the Breede River Lodge has been a wonderful and such a lovely experience. The atmosphere, was so calm and the view from the Blue Bayou at the Breede River Lodge is beautiful. We will definitely book and stay again. View is a bit limited, unit is in 2nd row. Still nice view of the river from the top floor. Very friendly hostess. Unit is comfortable and clean, thank you very much. Clearly a lot of effort has gone into renovations and upgrades, we had a great stay. Thank you.

Bed is uncomfortable and the suite bathroom we could not use as the taps don't work. The shower floor is dangerously slippery, and the shower drain was blocked. Outside the front door was a sewer inspection hatch which was broken, and a smell came through. We covered it with a bag.
QUITE AN IMPRACTICAL HOUSE FOR YOUNG KIDS. HAD A FEW ISSUES WITH PLUGS.
It's an easy place to sleep and it's nice at the mouth of the river.
A simple, beautiful apartment on the Breede River in a very quiet, safe and clean complex.
Blue Bayou is ideal for a family or friends getaway.
We were 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 12. We stayed for 2 nights and had a lovely time, even though it was really cold! But we will definitely recommend this place and be back again one day and hope to stay for longer. The unit was comfortable and clean and catered to all our needs.
The television does not work, cupboard doors are hanging, sliding door in the room cannot be opened, the most dangerous of all is the stove. The plates stand in the air of rust, think it is very unsafe. Everything in the cupboards is good. No shower curtain in master bedroom. Really think this owner should be arrested!
Curtains dirty. Smell the mold in the apartment and paint peeling off the walls. Roof leaks and TV is on unstable support.
10/10 accommodation was amazing, way more than we expected.
It's nice, neat and safe.
Remember to bring firewood and filter coffee. It was lovely to sit at the fireplace and they have a plunger.
The "swing chair" on the porch was a pleasant surprise. It was my favorite place to sit, rock and appreciate the view. Unfortunately, the bedroom and second floor patio door could not close. We had a bit of a struggle to firstly get the bedroom door open and secondly to close it again. The sliding door lock would not turn, so the doors could not close. Apparently new door tracks have been ordered so hopefully they will be repaired soon. Fortunately, Witsand is a safe place.
The photos were much nicer than the actual place. Many things need attention such as all the wooden sliding doors could not close, off hinges or so tight we struggled. Bedding in 2 single rooms was old and full of stains. Curtains in master bedroom were rusted and full of dirty spots. Toilets, shower and sinks have not been properly cleaned. The TV was balanced in the living room on a towel and tilted. The fireplace was broken and could not have been used. If I honestly compare the photos with the reality it is a bit misleading especially for the price I paid. The location is very nice and check-in was easy.
Lots of nice places to see there, will definitely visit Witsand again!
Only 2 problems. the unit does not have a freezer and the double bed has winter sheets with an electric blanket and this for mid-February.
Unit is quite old and needs a bit of attention.
Having a good bed is super important to me. The bed was hard and the mattress worn. Not good quality. With the price one expects a few bags of coffee, tea, and sugar, and a milkie. It's not a big expense. And a nice bottle of cold water. They can also provide extra toilet paper. The shower was clogged.

Unfortunately the bedding needs upgraded as the cover on my bed was broken and extremely thin for the cold days. Builders busy with jackhammer few meters from our accommodation. Noisy and dusty.
After a wonderful Chokka Hiking Trail experience in several guest houses, we (married for over 40 years) booked two nights in the Breede River Lodge for relaxation on the way home to explore and experience one of the unique ecosystems in South Africa. The Blue Bayou accommodation detracts from a beautiful Lodge with otherwise friendly people! Good email and messaging communication was received from Blue Bayou, Breede River Lodge (Rob). Unit 208 was allocated to us. A dirty and dusty unit 208 was found on our arrival at around 18:30. Old carpets filled up all open storage spaces in main bedroom. Dusty blankets on bed causing serious hay fever at night. We had to remove them outside the bedroom in the middel of a cold night. Main light in bedroom was not working. TV wall connection screwed open and left on table. TV not working. Only 10% toilet paper on roll. Bathroom not hygienic clean. Mop and house cleaning equipment left on balcony. Shower water running out slower than inflow. Serious restoration work on adjoining unit. Starting at 07:30 in the morning with hammering on wooden pergola next door. Cutting cement tiles and sliding door frames throughout the day. Words of renting agent Therese next morning, "As jy nie tevrede is met die plek nie kan jy vir jou 'n ander plek gaan kry. Ek sal reël dat die eienaar jou oorblywende dag terug betaal". Explaining that we've paid R245 cleaning fee in addition to renting, the agent said "that is to clean your unit for the next clients"! My wife and I were the only clients out of many open and available units at the Breede River Lodge. We've booked well in advance. Out of all the available units, it is difficult to believe that unit 208 was given to us without consent of restoration work on the same building structure. Bad experience on our first visit to one of the ecological wonders in South Africa. We can only hope that visitors from overseas will get better and friendlier places to stay.
Disappointed in the cleanliness, we did not even use the kettle because it had buildup filth. The showers definitely needs a deep clean and drains needs to be cleared. It is unhygienic to shower with water ponding.
Had a great time - lovely environment to relax and the fish dish was outstanding.

House is luxuriously equipped with the most beautiful view of the river and sea. We were received very kindly and simply helped with the carrying of luggage as well. One night was too short in the cute place.

Lovely holiday apartment with upstairs room with a nice balcony for a view of the river and the sea. Fireplace in living room with well-equipped kitchen. Downstairs two bedrooms each with their own bathroom. One has a bath and one a shower. Heaters in rooms, plenty of extra blankets and warm blankets on all the beds. Excellent value for money. I highly recommend it.
It really is value for money. Not far from the Breede River as well as the sea. It is safe and very peaceful. Perfect if you just want to relax and get away from the busy city life.

The silence and tranquility was wonderful if you want to switch off. Unit was comfortable and fully equipped. Nice to sit on the deck and look at the river and watch the tide change. Fireplace inside was welcome in the cold.
This self-catering unit is well equipped and extremely suitable for a couple or family with 2 children. The view is beautiful and the area very peaceful. There are a few places in the unit that need attention and some maintenance. However, it is good value for money.
Each cottage does not have its own braai facilities, but a common braai area. Would prefer to have own braai place.
Unit 208 is privately owned. Lounge carpet needs to be thrown away, mattress covers need a wash and towels need to be replaced.
The stairs are quite problematic, especially if luggage has to be carried up. It was mentioned that there are steep stairs inside the place to the living area. The sliding doors to the outside need attention. Had terrible trouble opening it. The kitchen cabinets by the sink have become wet and cannot be opened or closed easily. Stove plates are rusted. The place needs serious maintenance.

The unit was tidy, with enough warm bedding. The only problems that made it unpleasant was the shower door, it needs to be replaced. In the kitchen by the sink, the wooden countertop is already so damaged from the water that it is constantly dripping onto the floor. Fridge smelled of fish or something unpleasant. The website's advertisement needs to be adjusted, as there is no braai area at the pool.
Die eenheid is baie vuil en oud. Geen skuifdeur kan oop en die laaie onder wasbak kon ook nie oop. Die sitkamerbanke was vol vuil kolle. Hoofslaapkamer se skuifdeur kon nie oop en gordyne was vuil. Die mikrogolf was vol vuil spatsels van vorige gaste. Die toaster was grillerig en vuil. Ons het nie lekker gebly in unit 208 nie. Als is vuil gewees.
We loved the boat trip up the river despite the poor fishing. Great birding and lovely scenery. We were served the best oysters I have ever eaten at the Anchorage Restaurant.
Quiet, comfortable and nice view and really enjoy the fireplace in the cold weather.
The unit is beautiful and clean. The stairs to the upstairs section are steep. Upstairs has a view of the lagoon and a comfortable swing chair from which to enjoy the sunrise. A short drive takes you to the beach at Witsand. Well-equipped.
Although there were problems with dirty bedding, the visit was very cozy. Enjoyed it terribly. The fact that my son could walk and explore as he pleased was a relief to me. Very safe and guest friendly.
The unit is freezing cold, due to it facing the river, although a small fan heater is provided. A bit of dishwashing liquid would also have been appreciated. Also Wi-Fi should be provided in this day and age.
The rooms are old and should be revamped. Carpets are old and smelly, they should be replaced. Towels are old and should be replaced daily. Sleeps 4 adults however 2nd bedroom door cannot close because of bed! Whole unit was dirty.
Place soebat for a redo. Keep looking, there are better places on Witsand.
