The shower is either very hot or cold.
Very pleasant, comfortable and well-equipped. We did battle to depart though - the staff only arrive at 9.00, which is not communicated beforehand. Had to phone the owner who explained how to get out - very inconvenient.

We had a wonderful meal at the Blue Pepper Restaurant. Sommer immediately felt welcome. Communicated easily with the owner about my puppy and other questions. Very neat and clean accommodation.
Our overnight stay was fine.
We would like some information about the environment and things to do. The kitchenette is not comfortable for washing dishes or filling the kettle but there is a restaurant if you would rather miss the chores.
Unit needs a lot of attention (maintenance) e.g. the bed's headboard is loose, king size beds are not the same height, toilet is loose, to name just a few things. Gas geyser in bathroom is a safety risk! Unit no. 4's wifi password not available in unit. This is standard at most places we visit.
The unit we slept in needs some attention. Bathroom door was broken and could not open/close. Poor water pressure in the shower messed up the poor gas geyser. The outside door's latch opened and we had to climb out through the window. Luckily we were able to open the door from the outside. Pizzas were very tasty!
Had a great stay at Blue Pepper. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is at the guest house and was therefore convenient to enjoy dinner on the premises. Very nice food!

Lady Gray is a beautiful town, not known to everyone, that's a shame.

Clean, tidy and warm. Hospitality from Elize and Koekie was excellent. Will definitely visit Lady Gray again just so we can stay at Blue Pepper.
The location was fine and the guest house was neat and tidy. It had everything I needed for my two week stay. There is DStv and WiFi available. The restaurant is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the food and service is good.

Blue Pepper was a convenient stop-over in Lady Grey. It is easy to find, the host communicated effectively, and the room was exactly as advertised. She also kindly cooked a pleasant meal for us despite the restaurant being closed. A comfortable night, although it was freezing and one of the electric blankets was not working.

Very nice stay, food and accommodation! What's nice is that there is a restaurant and bar on the premises, so you don't have to drive anywhere. Elize and Ian made us feel very at home.
Clean and comfortable room.
The whole town is old and not neat. The rooms were okay, but it was difficult to control the warm water in the shower - either too cold or too hot. The courtyard wasn't well kept and not neat.
We arrived at the guest house in the late afternoon, with a family room and double room reservation. All doors were locked, even restaurant next door, with no response to bells. Finally shown to rooms by a lady from restaurant, with 2 cleaners also in the background, that's the sum total of any management or staff present during our stay. Our room was dirty, the loose mats are simply swept upstairs - I myself went to call a cleaner to sweep the floor after I accidentally lifted a mat. To sit outside, we had to wipe the chairs ourselves. The shower seems to be adequate, but unfortunately the gas geyser cuts out every few minutes and interrupts the hot water. The bed was lovely, but the headboard was loosely pushed in just behind - every time a pillow or person moved, the headboard slammed against the wall and woke everyone up. The young rooster that started crowing next to our room from 04:00 was a nice farm atmosphere, but not particularly welcoming for weary travelers. At no point was there anyone checking to see if guests were happy or if the rooms were OK No. In summary, a lack of supervision, and no 'attention to detail'. We went to Lady Gray with high expectations, but will not be returning.
Arrived in front of a dead man's door at the guest house and restaurant in the late afternoon. Finally someone knocked up in restaurant to be able to enter, but in the whole time we were there we never saw more than cleaners in the guest house and a waitress in the restaurant. Lack of management is a death knell in this guest house - the rooms' floors were dirty, the loose mats are just swept upstairs. The garden is used to scrub large carpets from a house, so there is no view or peace. The bed's headboard is loosely pushed in just behind the bed and snaps against more with any movement. Hot water from geyser constantly erupts. It is clear that there is a lot of potential here, but no attention paid to finishing or cleanliness, and very clearly no supervision or management.
Absolutely stunning, neat and hospitable. Tasty lamb chops a must try for all. Elize and Ian, thank you very much, we had a nice stay.
Blue Pepper is a surprising oasis. Unfortunately, when we arrived the guest house was locked up and we were unable to get hold of the owner on the contact number provided, which was unnerving. However, we were assisted a while later. A lovely place, beautifully decorated. Pity there is not a stove in the unit.
Situated at a good location, safe and warm.
They don't say "don't judge a book by its cover" for nothing. This gem inside doesn't look very impressive from the outside, but step through its doors and you see a different world. Beautiful! The service was also excellent.

Blue Pepper is a beautifully restored guest house with individual units ideal for singles or couples. Self-catering, comfortable, clean and very well appointed and situated close to the old hotel in Lady Grey, ideal for a peaceful meal.
As a family we had a good stay and enjoyed eating in their restaurant.
Old town with characterful houses and Blue Pepper is one of them. Safe and comfortable, clean and tidy, had a great time.
The bedding was clean and of good quality, the rooms were not serviced. There was no place to wash dishes. The bathroom door could not close. The hostess was not friendly, and no one was to be seen the rest of the time we were there.

Elize Cloete is busy upgrading her overnight accommodation and visitors can easily do the Joubert Pass as one of their "bucket list" things. Slept well in a clean, tidy environment.
Very neat, comfortable, good location, friendly staff. Only negative is that there is no parking on the premises and you have to leave your car parked on the road, around the corner from the guest house.
Friendly reception. Delicious food at the restaurant. Trusted us to stay alone on New Year's Weekend. Well-equipped kitchen. Barking dongs were a bit of a nuisance.
The only problem with the rooms booked for us and 2 friends was a loose shower door in each, which should have been noted and rectified beforehand. The main problem was with the restaurant where we had to wait for at least 75 minutes for our dinner orders to be processed; when my pork ribs arrived, they were cold to the touch and I never take a chance with undercooked pork and took it back to be cooked properly. To be fair, I did not pay for my meal and free desserts were given to my group. The owner was not available at 08h00 next day to settle the bill and we had to return after breakfast at another restaurant.
It was lovely and we felt at home immediately. Wonderful stay. Felt as if we were visiting friends and family. I will recommend this place and we will definitely call again. Thank you very much!
Reception was great. Even though we were the only guests, they offered to open the restaurant for us that evening. The also provided secure parking for our vehicle for that night. The bed was comfy. We would recommend that they add a shower curtain, as this was absent.
Very friendly hostess and staff. The units are behind a building collapse (after a fire) which is in the process of being restored. Kitchen is tiny. If the duster is used, the sheet must be removed first. It's very impractical.
