The main bedroom has a double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a Victorian bath while the second room is equipped with 3 single beds. There are 2 sleeper couches in the living room that can accommodate 2 additional guests. These guests share a bathroom with the guests in the second bedroom. It is fully equipped for self-catering and includes linen and towels. The kitchen is equipped with a stove and oven, a fridge, microwave, coffee- and tea-making facilities, crockery and cutlery. There is an open hearth in the living room, with plenty of wood provided, where guests can enjoy romantic, fireside dinners.
Bo-Kapie Annexe features a double bed and an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and a basin. It has tea- and coffee-making facilities and all guests have access to complimentary Wi-Fi.
The accommodation is centrally located and is near museums, golf course, hiking trails and Marloth- and Bontebok Nature reserves. With so much to see and do in and around Swellendam, Bo-Kapie makes for an ideal base from which to explore the area.
Built in 1833, Bo-Kapie is 1 of the oldest houses in Swellendam. It is also the last of the houses dating back to the slave history of Swellendam which ended with their emancipation in 1834. This little flat-roofed, Cape Georgian-style cottage with its moulded parapet was the preferred style of the Muslim artisans of the time. It is reminiscent of the typical Bo-Kaap houses as they still exist today. The vertical panelled front door with fanlight replaced the stable door of the Cape Dutch-style.

32 guests' feedbackVery nice we overslept and it rained. We lay quietly and listened.
It was a lovely getaway. Thank you so much, Lizette, for your hospitality and kindness. It might be time to upgrade the master bedroom bed, but other than that it was absolutely fantastic. The old house has many stories to tell. We would like to bring the children/family with us next time.
Relaxing, peaceful place.
House very comfortable. Enough space for large group. Cars behind gates. Underground bathroom with large bath was plus. Green plants around the house were good for the soul. Environment quiet and safe. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Everyone enjoyed the walks.
The place is small, but with a nice garden, and very well located.
Beautiful historic Upper Cape cottage. It was nice to go back in time. Fireplace in the kitchen was lovely in the evening.
The beds are small for men. The place is cold. No one came out to show us around on the first day and explain where everything was. We had to call. The units ran out in the electrical box.
It was okay. The price is ridiculous for the small place, but Tani did return some of our money when we wanted to cancel. There is no self catering as advertised. The TV is old and very small, and the DStv remote control does not work. There is also no fan, and it was terribly hot in that small place which also smelled of mustiness.
Nice and comfortable place with everything you need for 2 people, restaurants and places to hang out nice and close, yet far enough that you don't hear them. Lizette is friendly and helpful and will help where she can, very good hosts. I would stay there again.
It was a pleasant experience in the historic town. The surroundings with the beautiful mountains invite you to enjoy yourself there. Ate well and slept well.
Swellendam is a tourist town and there is a lot to do. It is also a peaceful, quiet town and felt very safe.
Wish could stay longer.
The host phoned us for an expected arrival time and was at the premises when we arrived (easy to find). We learnt that the previous tenants at the main house had destroyed the owner's family bible (they brought along a dog) then had the audacity to give a 1-star rating! The place is historic, brightly painted, close to the town, perfect for a one-off stay. Would have liked to have stayed in the main house, but there were only 2 of us. 5 stars!
Shower door's fixed panel lets water through into the frame. One wooden gate hangs slightly lower than the other, as a result of which it is a little difficult to open and close the gate. The driving surface of Bo-Kapie erf is approximately 10 cm lower than the road surface, as a result an inexperienced driver will struggle to push back in reverse in the narrow one-way side street and at the same time turn into the gate. Despite the above mentioned "fixes" that can be done, I would stay at Bo-Kapie again anytime. Quiet peaceful environment with little movement.
See stars.
A single garage that has been converted into a cramped space. The bed creaks and makes noise and a new bed is recommended. The small fridge is noisy and also a new one would help I was instructed to turn it off during loadshedding, no stove or any other facilities except a plastic dish to wash your dirty dishes in. Primitive over. Gave up one night and lost the money and booked in another place instead.
Hospitality reception with sparkling wine, glasses and chocolates, a handwritten welcome letter, biscuits and coffee. Cottage and parking were a bit neat but still great, beautiful garden. Owner hid key in garden because they had to drive, they made so much effort.
We had such a nice stay at Bo-Kapie. Beautiful flowers, biscuits, fast WiFi and overall care provided. The unit was clean, tidy and we immediately felt at home. A real Upper Cape, cottage feel. The owner is friendly and pleasant and made us feel very comfortable with good communication and arrangements. We will visit again soon and will definitely make our home here again.
Very cute place, unfortunately there was no hot water.
Thank you very much for the special fresh fruit and biscuits, create the feeling of home!
Reception was good. Hospitality everything was perfect.
Television was out of order and took a long time before someone could get it working.
Excellent hospitality.
Thanks to Lizette for the beautiful flowers upon our arrival and for the delicious biscuits. The house is beautifully clean with plenty of towels and blankets for the cold nights. The fireplace works very well and thanks for the firewood to keep us warm. The charm of the house, built in 1833, has been preserved throughout and gives the house a unique character. Thank you very much for your prompt and friendly service. With 5 adults and 1 child there was plenty of space and sleeping space for everyone. The soft toy on the bed was an extra touch of fun. We can definitely recommend Bo-Kapie.
Thank you for making us feel so welcome in this beautiful historic home! There was everything and more we needed; coffee, tea, wood, towels and even flowers in our rooms! So special!
Since our arrival, until we left, we felt very at home and welcome. Very friendly people. Would go again any time.
My family and I were unfortunately only able to stay for one night, but I would advise anyone to stay longer. When we got there in the afternoon, everything was so neat and in its place. One immediately feels comfortable in this breathtaking cottage. I would definitely recommend Bo-Kapie to anyone.
It is very comfortable, nice and tidy accommodation. Can recommend to anyone to stay there. Service we received from Lizette was of high standard.
Positive experience, safety was striking.
We loved staying there. It was very pretty and comfortable. It was conveniently situated.
The house is covered in plants. It attracts spiders. Cockroaches in the house. Tried to break in Saturday evening. Boys across the road stopped it. Very bad parking and unsafe.
Not suitable at all for what we needed. Information online was not updated and therefore did not suit us. It may suit elderly people or possibly a foreign couple looking to go back a few centuries. Poor attitude from the owner when we complained about the misinformation.
