10 guests' feedbackIt was very peaceful. If you really want to rest and just enjoy the scenery. This is the place!
House needs urgent work. Blinds in rooms all broken. Roof fans make a lot of noise. Decks falling apart. Iron burn and stains on carpets. Holes in all of the chairs. Private game drive vehicle for R800 per day has broken spedometer, broken fuel meter, brakes and handbrake not working at all and extremely hot air blowing on driver and passanger's feet. Also have to turn steering wheel all the way before vehicle turns at all. Was a nice weekend but not really value for money.
The house is very old and has not been properly serviced or maintained. Parts of the upper porch are impassable because the wooden deck is collapsing. The roof leaked into the dining room making the dining room floor slippery and unsafe. The rooms and especially the beds and pillows are of extremely poor quality. We haven't had to sleep on such uncomfortable beds in years. The house has clearly not been maintained or renovated in years. It's actually a shame to charge people to come and stay in a house where the roof leaks, the beds and pillows are absolutely shocking, and the carpets in the rooms are old and dirty. It really just wasn't worth the money and we were bitterly disappointed. If it wasn't that we were stranded due to if not for the floods we would have gone home earlier.
No animals and a struggle to places where there are animals. Extremely impractical house, architect should look for other work.
Wonderful weekend in the bush. A beautiful house that is very comfortable. House and furniture needs a bit of TLC but it didn't affect our stay at this amazing venue.
Just avoid using the game drive vehicle on the property - it is literally falling apart and should not be used at all - the left rear wheel started coming off on a drive and we had to inch back to the house. That said, the house is wonderful and location ideal.
Please just update website as it said for 7 people and there was just 6 beds.
I would definitely stay at Boekenhout Lodge again and recommend it to others. It was definitely one for the books.
The owner does no maintenance. My husband fell right through the wooden deck and was very hurt. The bathroom window has no blinds or curtains, so no privacy. The washing up area in the kitchen had an unpleasant smell. The cutlery, as well as the crockery, are very dirty. The game vehicle is in poor condition. You pay a R500 tire dust charge, then you still have to fill up the vehicle yourself. Very disappointed in the stay.
It is very comfortable and fully furnished and the silence was absolutely wonderful. The road to the lodge is very bad in one place and the ladies who drive their own cars found it very nerve-racking. Directions, especially for first-time visitors, are a necessity. Great place to enjoy nature.
