79 guests' feedbackA wonderful getaway in the bushveld, with a bushveld fire as you can only make in the bushveld, all the forest sounds, the sunset. The highlight was the night owl that frolicked in the trees around us on our last night.
It was wonderful. When we dealt with the staff, they were friendly and knowledgeable. The place was clean and well-maintained, and the signage inside the property was easy to follow and understand. The view from the tree house is great, and the camp feeling at the boma was enjoyable. We will definitely return when it is summer and recommend this to others. Good value for money. There was a fee (I think it was R150 odd rand) that needed to be paid at the gate on arrival that we were not aware of.
An incredible place with beautiful views and friendly staff. This is our second time staying at Bona Ntaba Tree House Lodge and we will definitely plan to visit again. The accommodation has the most beautiful view of the mountains and the sunsets are breathtaking. The chalets are spotless and cosy. Definitely an 11/10.
Very sophisticated!
Second coming back to Bona Ntaba - scenic, beautifully calm, perfect escape from the JHB chaos - staff friendly and kind - their neighbour Panzi Lodge for check in were amazing, super helpful - we had a flat tyre and they quickly assisted us with ease - made us feel welcome!
Unique to be able to be in the treetops. Very nice.
I would have given a full 5/5, but in doing so, it would then suggest there is no room for improvement. Overall, the stay was excellent, and I am looking forward to staying there again in February/March. The devil, however, is in the detail, and I found the linen, although clean, a bit past being used in a guest facility. There were unsightly stains on the kitchen sink - my OCD could not get it clean. Other than that, brilliant place, tranquil setting, excellent value for money, especially for a single traveller like myself. I needed that. Thank you.
Wonderfully peaceful and the right place to charge batteries.
Very nice holiday. The road there is dirt road which is long and a bit bad. It takes 30 min to enter the reserve. Other than that, no complaints, very peaceful surroundings.
We stayed in Bona Ntaba Tree House Lodge and the kitchen was well equipped. The treehouse and boma were also very comfortable. Everything was nice and clean. It's a shame that you're not allowed to drive or walk any trails, so you just have to wait for the wildlife to pass you by. We were lucky to have giraffes for company. The central pool was also pretty clean and we could sit there too.
We had a nice stay. The boma is very nice for a fire and the kitchen is close, all that is really missing is a small living room where children could sit/play especially in the evening, precisely because it is so open (and dark) and wild animals are nearby . So all you need is an extra place if you don't want to sit outside around the fire/cold. The main lodge's TV would also be nice, especially during rugby matches, and also an opportunity to buy ice (especially as it is so far out of town). The beds upstairs for the kids, even though they are over 6, are very high, and we had to put mattresses on the ground which obviously limited the room for the four of us to move around. There is also no closet for clothes, so four suitcases take up almost all the space.
Peaceful and a good experience in the bush.
We had a great stay, lots of night sounds from the wildlife and saw beautiful sunsets.
No. 1. Bedding was full of marks. 2. Tree house inside was dirty. 3. Toilet was dirty, as well as faucets had attachments which caused the shower not to work well. 4. Door opening and closing was a hassle.
Best place to come to rest, and away from the hustle and bustle. Clean, very safe and comfortable. Tree house is tidy and everything you need is there and more. Kitchen and boma area next to each other. Very quiet and safe environment. In the heart of the forest. You only hear animals at night. Therapy at its best. Very nice and private. Far enough from the other units. Would recommend for sure and nice and close enough to Orpen gate. Conservation fee is up to R150, but that's the least.
Well located, well equipped, just a fantastic place. Value for money! Will definitely go there again!
We had a very pleasant visit. Heard the lions roaring in the evenings. It was incredibly beautiful and peaceful there. The silence and darkness make it the perfect place to just go and rest with family.
Get location. Very helpful and well-stocked.
Nice place to stay with a fantastic location. We heard lions roaring all evening as well as a lot of other animals because of the big 5 reserve right next to the camp. The facilities are excellent and we really enjoyed our stay.
We really enjoyed our stay in the treehouse. It was a great adventure for our young boys, as well as for our adults. Breathtaking view of the forest and mountains. The Zebra unit has its own private kitchen and boma area, which has a lovely atmosphere in the evening for braai! A Muskelljaat cat visited us at the boma one evening. One hears lions roaring in the evening and feels part of nature. Very quiet, private place. The reserve is quite remote, but safe. Only make provision for light yourself during load shedding, LED lights are not provided and the water supply is low during load shedding. The owner did bring us a small duster when there was a longer power outage in the area. Orpenhek (Kruger) is just under an hour's drive from Bona Ntaba and a great day trip. We also enjoyed the pool, everything was neat and clean. There is a rustic bush bar / restaurant at the lodge next to Bona Ntaba, they do not offer a large menu, but the options are sufficient if you are not too picky or want to drive into Hoedspruit.
I saw in other comments when I discussed that the path is not up to standard. The road is much better than many tarred roads in SA. Wonderful place near the Kruger!
It is not a luxurious place. Everything you need is there. Very spacious and fully equipped boma and kitchen. Lovely view. Will definitely stay there again.
Had some zebras visit us and giraffes, some animals at night and some snakes, did enjoy it.
Night owls and bats are a bit of a nuisance at night.
Only one comment. Please provide guests with loadshedding times when checking in.
It was a lot of fun for the children, safe, clean and peaceful - saw animals right under the house. It's a bit far from shops. Come prepared with food and drinks.
The silence together with the sounds of nature dominated everything. This led to an unforgettable nice rest. The unit was perfect and the secluded lapa and kitchen area was unique and extremely practical. The morning sunrises and the evening sunsets were beautiful. Our souls have properly scaled down and rested. We highly recommend Bona Ntaba for those who really want to rest. In addition, Gillian was extremely helpful in every way.
What a lovely stay, it was so peaceful and I felt well rested. The place is beautiful and I highly recommend if you just want an escape, peace and quiet.
Especially if you are serious about nature, that's where all the wildlife can visit your beautiful homes with ease.
Enjoyed the pool. Had a Hyena visit us.
We had a very nice stay. All that bothered us was that we were not informed in any way that we are not allowed to drive our own vehicle to view wildlife and have to use game drives as well as that there are entry times at the entrance gate. It was quite inconvenient and very misleading.
Very nice stay and very peaceful.
It is wonderful to stay among the treetops. The treehouse overlooks mountains. Definitely an experience.
We had a great stay and wish we could have stayed longer!
From the booking to the arrival and departure was excellent. The view around was breathtakingly beautiful. The game drives were one of the high points, so much to see. For sure value for money.
Value for money indeed.
It's just a shame that we weren't allowed to drive around and see animals because of the reserve - you have to book a safari, saw very few animals.
Unbelievable to stay there in the forest.
The road into the location does require either a vehicle with average ground clearance, so not a sports car. The staff were very friendly. We were slightly alarmed when warned of leopards in the area since we were walking between our cabin and the kitchen/pool. Inconvenience caused by the fact that the main gates close at 18:00 every night so no chance of a nice dinner out or evening activities.
Would be a good idea to advise patrons that the road is a bit rough to get there.
Was looking for something different and found it rather close to us. Will definitely go again.
We were treated very well by all the staff. The place was cozy and safe. My two teenagers and I really enjoyed it. In the Bosveld. The kitchen and boma were perfect. Everything was just perfect.
Wonderful experience in a tree house in the forest. Everything so lovely green, as far as the eye can see. Not to mention the forest sounds, lovely experience!
Thank you very much for that. Please keep always your hospitality so wonderful. Even though we are used to keeping our places tidy, there was room service every day. See you on Sunday! We are people who behave and stick to rules, yet the management trusted us and never came to see what we were doing. If we had problems we could press their button. It was great!
Very nice stay, everything you can/might need with the most beautiful view of the mountains.
Close to Wildlife Park and wildlife.
Very quiet and very neat and quiet. An experience.
The setup is great, houses clean and neat, service was friendly. Great experience.
Thank you, it was an experience so back in nature. The outdoor shower is lovely and the setting is absolutely beautiful.
The experience was amazing, I highly recommend it. Great location if you're looking to have peace of mind with the sounds of nature surrounding you.
Recommended for a get away to just be calm and relax.
The place was absolutely beautiful and a great place to relax and be in nature.
Would have liked to see more animals and the water hole was not at our house, would have liked to have one closer...
Many thanks to Bona Ntaba for an unforgettable visit. It was clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly. The kitchen facilities were great and everything you need and more was there. Saw quite a lot of wildlife and on the last night we were lucky to see five lions that walked along the wire! I would recommend Bona Ntaba anytime and we will definitely visit again.
Lots of animals, nice and clean. You don't see other people if you don't want to. Animals walk right past the pool.
We pray for you and the animals for rain. It is still very dry there, but the animals are well looked after with the water holes.
Friendly and helpful reception from the owners. In the heart of the forest with the wildlife around you but still so much comfort that nothing is missing.
I stayed in a treehouse with its own fully equipped kitchen. Quality linen and electric blanket were so welcome in the heart of winter. Nice big corner bath with enough hot water to take a nice, long, hot bath. The silence was wonderful. I heard the lions roar every night and morning. I was grateful for an email from the establishment that helped me bring everything I would need since there are no shops nearby.
Love it, best, Like it, very nice.
A wonderful experience. Wooden house is beautiful and very comfortable.
One feels close to nature, sees small animals walking by and hears the lions roaring at night. The sunrise from the house's porch is something to experience.
Definitely a must if city life gets too much for a person. We stayed 2 nights in the Zebra tree house, for the next time we will explore the Kudu tree house a bit. The summer heat was quite overwhelming, but at least there is a lovely swimming pool to relax in and have a glass of water, even while you see the animals drinking water every now and then. At night we saw quite a lot of wildlife around the treehouse and heard other animals while we sat around the fire and visited. It was really very nice, we will definitely go again.
Nice accommodation, the tree house is something different to the usual.
It was a very peaceful atmosphere. Very neat and well equipped. A bar fridge can be quite handy up in the tree house as you drink coffee up there.
The stay was very nice and the unit (Zebra) and kitchen were clean. However, there was a very bad smell in the kitchen that smelled like the septic tank, although it wasn't coming from the sink drain pipes. The unit is still safe to live in at this point, but the owner will need to look at the unit soon to prevent it from falling over. The unit is between 500 mm and 750 mm slanted. We also had vehicles driving around at night which makes you feel unsafe.
It was not nice there at all and the place is so full of ticks and the service is poor.
We had an amazing stay at the Bona Ntaba Tree House Lodge! It's great to be in the Greater Kruger, we had three giraffes hanging around at our lodge when we woke up! The outdoor shower is awesome as well. The pool is very nice as well, the drinking pool in front was quite popular with animals during our stay. We really loved the lodge and would definitely recommend it!
The drive on the dirt road to Bona Ntaba was a bit bumpy, but bear in mind I drove there in a sports car. When I got there, I was welcomed to the lodge by the owner and he made us feel at home immediately. He introduced us to the lodge's cleaner and then he gave us a lot of information about what to do in the area. At his other lodge he has 2 white lions and you can then make a reservation to go for a walk with him and the 3 and a half year old lions. If you want to make a bucket list, put it as your first or last, but you should definitely do it. The treehouses are super clean and built high up in the treetops. What a breathtaking view. The outdoor shower was something special for me and the children. Beautiful scenery. We were there in the winter and will go again in the winter. Lots of wildlife visiting the pool. We were the only guests at Bona Ntaba for the time of year. You will not get so close to our Heavenly creator's natural beauty. There are so many sightseeing spots in a radius of 40 km in our six days we couldn't get to all. To name a few is the Mohololo Endangered Species facility which is another must for one and all. The boat cruise on the Blyde River Canyon. Visit to Hoedspruit's endangered species facility. There you drive around in open vehicles among wild animals that are severely endangered. After such a day's excursion, it is really something to look forward to arriving at the lodge again. Temperature during the day was a nice 24 to 28 degrees and at night it dropped to about 14 degrees. In the evening when the wood fire starts to chatter like that and the day stops and you sit on the wooden deck, you lose yourself in the breathtakingly beautiful place and you don't want to go back home. The beautiful swimming pool on the deck even in winter allowed us to cool off and watch the giraffes and wild animals come to drink water at the water hole. The lodge and the houses are cleaned daily, as well as your boma. The housekeeper is very thorough in her aim to keep everything neat and clean. The worst part of Bona Ntaba was coming back home. But beyond that, Bona Ntaba deserves all that a star can get. Would I go again? Yes, definitely, but this time longer and more prepared. Remember to get firewood in Hoedspruit, as well as everything you will need to eat and drink. There are no shops closer than 25 km. But if you come prepared you won't want to leave until your last day has arrived. And then the highlight: on our departure day we went to visit Jessica, the manatee, on the other side of Hoedspruit. If you don't have it on your bucket list, put it on that too. We hand fed her again. The children could kiss her on her nose and sit on her with their bare feet. What an experience. The owner of Bona Ntaba has created here for our visitors a piece of paradise that makes a break from the city a must. I have never been so close to my creator's creations of natural beauty. You deserve only the best review of a lodge so beautiful, words cannot describe it. It's a must-see and must-stay experience. I will be back again next winter.
Loved it, wish we had arranged to spend more time on the property ─ 2 nights wasn't enough.
Very beautiful, very neat, pity that nearby lodges make so much noise throughout the evening (Timbavati side), even lions gave up later.
We went with our family, 4 couples and 2 teenagers. Had the whole faculty with the 4 tree houses. It was nicely arranged and the tree houses are well equipped. Loved our stay!
Bona Ntaba is conveniently close to the NKW to serve as an overnight stop before your visit to the Wildlife Park. The reception was friendly and professional. The treehouse is exciting, easily accessible and neatly equipped with all the essentials. Wasn't crazy about the braai place, fridges and freezers having to be shared communally. Would have liked to see that each tree house could have had its own "bar fridge" in the tree house and braai next to the tree house. However, understand the potential risk of a fire hazard.
The constructions vehicles was very annoying going up and down Thursday and Friday the whole day. Our water had a very very bad odour. The water actually coloured my silver jewellery, It wasn't pleasant to take a shower or bath. And the smell in the kitchen after using water was not suited to prepare food in. I will suggest that they run the taps when the expect visitors in order to clean the pipes.
Reception was friendly and made us feel welcome. House inside very well furnished and we had a great time sitting on the veranda and enjoying the sunset. Would recommend to anyone!
Was great to get away from the noisy city, ery quiet, exactly what you are looking for in the bush, no TV, which is exactly how it should be. Good customer service, made us feel at home, will be back.
The house has a beautiful location with stunning views. Beautiful deck and swimming pool. Very neat with all the necessary kitchen items! Friendly reception.
It is very nice and I will definitely go back, I think they can put a bar fridge in each house for milk and something to drink. You don't want to walk to the kitchen every time you want to drink something.
What a breathtaking experience. Tranquility of the forest and the animals around the camp was incredible. Absolutely a holiday I will not forget. We will be back for sure!
