The self-catering lodge can accommodate up to 18 people, and comprises 4 units that can each accommodate between 4 to 5 people. All 4 units are furnished with a queen-size bed and has a private fireplace on the ground floor. On the first floor, Units 1 and 4 are furnished with 2 three-quarter beds, and Units 2 and 3, each contain 3 three-quarter beds. Each unit has a private bathroom with a shower, and a toilet, and for convenience linen and towels are provided. Please note there are fairly steep stairs connecting the downstairs bedrooms to the upstairs bedrooms, and should be taken into consideration when booking for elderly and frail guests, or families with small children.
The 4 units share the use of a communal kitchen, a dining area, a bar, a lounge, as well as the indoor and outdoor braai areas, and verandahs. The shared living areas are cleaned daily for convenience. Gas geysers provide hot water to the bathrooms and the kitchen, and wood is provided for the fireplaces and the braai areas.
Built out of local, hand dressed sandstone, the ceiling and some of the wood furniture were made from sourced wood from alien invasive trees on the farm. Considered off-the-grid, the water is provided directly from a mountain spring, and solar power provides electricity to the fridge, lights and plug points which are located in the kitchen and outside bar area.
Boschfontein Farm is a working sheep, cattle and game farm, and has a small, 100-year-old cherry orchard which produces the Early Red variety of cherries. Various activities are available on request on the farm, and range from fishing, target and clay pigeon shooting, mountain trails and river walks for walking running, hiking or mountain biking, game drives, cherry liqueur tasting, and a tour of the Pinedene Small Arms Museum. The game camp is stocked with red hartebeest, impala, zebra, ostriches, waterbuck, springbuck, blesbuck, black wildebeest, and eland, and game viewing is mainly done in a Land Rover.

3 guests' feedbackEverything is neat and clean. The kitchen has everything you need and the facilities are excellent! Special thanks to the hostess who opened her beautiful garden for me to walk in and get quiet. Couldn't ask for more to just step aside and be quiet. Exactly what I was hoping for. Will be back again for sure.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this very peaceful Eastern Free State getaway. The lodge is very comfortable, has amazing views, is beautifully furnished, has a well-equipped kitchen, lots of firewood, and is serviced daily. We enjoyed hiking, mountain biking, and relaxing with the family. Great hosts too!
The view was fantastic and the accommodation very nicely furnished, neat, beautiful and clean.
