119 guests' feedbackBoulders Beach Hotel is perfect! Excellent location, friendly staff, great accommodation. I had looked forward to our stay and it did not disappoint.
Was a beautiful, clean room. Small, but I could manage. Very friendly reception. Wonderful location.
Comfortable and very nice close to Boulders Beach. The cafe also has very good food.
See stars.
It was really pleasant. Beautiful view from the hotel's veranda.
See stars.
We had a wonderful time. It was nice to be so close to the penguins.
Very close to Boulders Beach, saw the penguins walking in the parking area at night.
Terribly cute place, very neat and very clean. The staff is also incredibly friendly.
The room was newly painted and tidy.
Very clean room and very friendly staff. No noise after 20h00 from other guests or visitors. Most beautiful sea view and penguins that come to greet you every evening in the parking area. Really worth it.
View and location were perfect! Breakfast was delicious!
An excellent place to stay. Clean with very friendly staff and very affordable with lots of extras like a hairdryer and water in the fridge.
It was okay. The only problem was they don't have a television in the room, but everything was fine.
Room was clean, but really quite cramped. There isn't really room for your luggage; can work for one night.
Pleasant and clean, and great value for money.
Ideal location! Close to penguins. The place needs some maintenance.
The room was as in photos. Clean and tidy. Small shop outside makes a nice breakfast.
It was a pleasure I expected, I got.
It met our expectations.
The location is excellent. The rooms are very close together, and it gets a bit noisy outside. The bath is awkward; it should be replaced with a shower, which is sufficient. I had some WiFi connection problems to get onto my laptop. The duvet is too hot for summer; a single sheet plus a fleecy blanket would have been enough. Otherwise, friendly and helpful staff.
The photo gives you the impression you have a sea view. I believe that no room has a sea view. There is no air cooling. With no safety defenses in front of the windows, you cannot sleep with the window open. It was a very hot time when we visited the hotel. The location is one of the best in the world.
We had a great stay, slept well and the location is excellent. Would have liked a little more storage space for our clothes. Two big negatives were the parking, there is not a lot of parking in general, if you have driven and you come back there is no parking, we had to park our car at the country club @ R50. We couldn't go to the penguins AT ALL, there were rows upon rows of people all the time, would really like to go, we tried to go in for two days, but it wasn't possible, we thought the hotel would be a tag or have something that the hotel guests prefer, that's why we chose the hotel in the first place.
Most disappointing experience. Poor service, unclean rooms. Would not recommend it at all.
Terrific. Breathtaking and lovely quiet atmosphere.
My stay was pleasant and the views were beautiful.
I would like to say a big thank you to the excellent staff at Boulders Beach Hotel. From the Kiosk, kitchen, cleaning service and reception, everyone gives their utmost to make one's stay comfortable and something to remember forever. Simonstad is a special place. And Boulders Beach Hotel is perfectly located with incredible scenery just steps away. Was a mother and son holiday that we will remember forever. I can't wait to go back. Is an absolute gem.
Definitely coming back soon. Love the mountain view and sea view. Best of both worlds.
Happiness. Beautiful surroundings. Friendly staff.
Was a dream come true. Beautiful. Safe. Beautiful. Everything is walking distance. Nice hiking trails.
Our room was very neat and clean and well furnished. Will definitely book again.
If you looking for a hotel with a homely feel, then this is the place.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and the general atmosphere was relaxed and holiday like.
Beautiful and quiet hotel situated in a special location. The rooms were tidy and the staff was very helpful. The shower was nice and big. When there was a power failure, the possibility of light was provided.
I recommend they designate a certain area for smoking otherwise any vacant place or floor is being used which has an impact on non-smokers, especially when that smoke reaches the room of non-smokers.
We enjoyed our feathery neighbors, a family of 4. Just adorable.
It is a fantastic location very close to Boulder Beach. A 2-minute walk and you can enjoy the penguins. The room is clean, a little bit windy but nice and cozy. There is a nice bath and shower. We had our own parking space for the car in front of the room.
Perfect place for family to experience a beautiful part of the Cape Coast. It's walking distance from Boulders Beach. Lovely view of the sea from the rooms.
Boulders Beach Hotel is excellently located, walking distance from Windmill Beach, on the doorstep of Boulders Beach and a few minutes' drive from other beautiful beaches and Simonstown centre. Rooms are beautiful and the large modern shower is lovely. The cleaning and maintenance is not done subtly. The management most likely expects that guests will be busy with sightseeing all day because cleaning takes place during most of the day. Rooms are not cleaned one by one and all bedding, buckets, towels, vacuum cleaners and garbage bags with rubbish are standing, lying and hanging all over the courtyard and workers are smoking, making noise and listening to the radio. The only place in my room where I had phone reception was by my bench and small table in the courtyard in front of my room door, but I couldn't sit there because it was semi-permanent, (during daylight hours) packed full of rubbish and cleaning products. There was also a blocked drain that wafted its smell into my window, despite cleaning all day. I recommend booking your days while staying at Boulders Beach Hotel and not returning to the accommodation until late afternoon. Rooms in the courtyard windows face each other so keep blinds closed for privacy.
I had a nice stay. Perfectly adequate for an overnight stop.
Variety of wildlife can be viewed. Quiet and safe environment.
The location is good, quite close to the tourist hub the only downside of the accommodation is the fact that privacy could be better as the main entrance opens onto the deck of the reception area.
We were warmly greeted and received by the gentleman at reception. He also shared some contacts for a lift with us since Uber and Bolt are not available in the town. It was a pleasant overnight stop with easy access to the beach. The building and room we stayed in, is rich in history which does impact on some amenities. A TV would be great for the family rooms. Overall a pleasant experience. A later check-out option can also be considered.
For just an overnight it's ok. We only booked a room because we were flying back the next day. Clean and tidy.
Can only look more at the persons who have to use wheelchairs.
Nice by the sea, but double room is a bit small, location is nice, but it is noisy and noisy in the courtyard. Price is a bit expensive for just a place to sleep, but otherwise we really enjoyed it.
On arrival there was a vagrant in the parking area that harassed us to help carry luggage and wash our car which was very uncomfortable. The manager should have chased him away as it is a problem for guests checking in to the establishment.
The room was cleaned every day, but the biscuits and coffee were not replenished at all. The wifi didn't work at all.
First of all, the room is much smaller than it looks in the pictures. The mattress on the bed is hollow, so one's back hurts at night. The soap dispenser in the bathroom was empty and there was no shower gel or shampoo in the bathroom. One window's shutter is broken, so when the wind blew at night, the window opened and closed. There is also no TV in the room. I really think Boulders Beach Hotel can improve on their service.
Will definitely book again. Thank you very much for the good service.
Facilities were excellent and so was the service at reception.
Enjoyable last-minute getaway, close to home, but far enough to feel away. Had a lovely walk to visit the penguins near by and dinner and breakfast in Simon's Town at some of the many restaurants.
Good location! Very friendly service!
We had so much fun. The place felt like home. We wish that we could have extended our stay, That's how much fun we had. Thank you to Kaylin and the others for making our stay amazing. Will definitely be back pretty soon.
Absolutely beautiful location and a room with everything you need. Was only there for one night but it was definitely one for the books!
It was a wonderful visit, short but sweet, we will definitely make another stay. Thank you, it was awesome meeting all the Penguins!
We arrived quite late (around 22h) and check-in was easy. I had some difficulty reaching reception for the larger part of the afternoon, which got me quite worried, but my stay was excellent.
Friendly hosts. Beautiful view. Great value.
The sound of people outside the rooms permeates the rooms badly, and woke us up early because they were doing repairs on the building. That's all that bothered us, if maybe they could make the rooms more soundproof at some point. The place was neat. The location is perfect and we really enjoyed the day and evening there. Nice to sit outside on the porch in the evening and listen to the penguins and watch them walk around.
See stars.
The reception was friendly, the rooms very clean. Parking for vehicles is outside, but it appears to be safe.
Some kitchen items missing, iron and ironing board, cutlery, kitchen cleaning equipment.
Nice view and nice exit.
Room 14 is very basic, so a bit expensive for what you get - no TV, no table on which I can put a laptop and do something? We just slept there, so good enough for that, but you can't spend time there.
Great sleep, friendly service and the penguins are the cutest!
Accommodation is really very clean and had a nice stay.
Room service would've been a welcomed extra. Breakfast is by arrangement and minimalistic and although there was a cart outside for sandwiches and fries, due to load shedding it was not operational. WiFi is also not good in the rooms.
There was no water in the room. Floors not mopped due to "loadshedding"? Shampoo bottle was almost empty. Trash still has garbage in it from previous guests. Other guests make noise all the time and children run around. Complained about room and it was fixed.
WiFi not available, small space.
Service was great. Rooms basic but clean and perfect for our 2 night stay.
It was a tranquil stay with beautiful views. The accommodation was beautiful, timeless and accessible to other facilities. The receptionist was helpful and open towards us. It is a destination my partner and I will visit in future.
Quiet and safe. Lovely walks on the board walk with the penguins and rock rabbits to amuse and keep one company. The curio shop and cafe downstairs attract many tourists and add to the tourist ambiance. The hotel was apparently built in the 1800's and therefore has historical importance. Definitely a place worth going to again!
Great location, close to the beach and penguins.
Everything you need for a night or two of sleep. Close to everything and beach with many small sandy beaches between the rocks ideal for small children who want to play in water and sand. Very safe. Resaurant serves light meals but other places to eat very close. Simonstad feels like another country.
Need some maintenance.
Loved the little stoep room, equipped with everything you need. Not too clean (cobwebs) and coffee and milk already passed expiry date. But was not at all bothered, the staff are helpful, friendly and the spot is just the best ever. Really loved it.
Unfortunately, they did not remove the B&B option from their ad. If I had known in advance the restaurant was closed due to Covid I would not have booked there. The penguin reserve made up for the misunderstanding.
Not all windows have burglar bars - should consider installing these.
Restaurant was unfortunately closed, but rooms are clean and tidy. Nice to be right next to the penguins.
Reception was stiff and very matter-of-fact. Garden debris (lots of old leaves, sun-bleached old 2 Minute Noodle paper, etc.) was blown outside in the corner, clearly not cleared for a while, with the leaves in various stages of desiccation. Inside was clean and tidy.
Took my mom (76) after I have been there 4 weeks prior. It is a absolute gem of a place, so relaxed, staff are so friendly and I am coming back for sure!
We were away for an anniversary weekend. If you plan to be busy during the day with sightseeing etc. and just sleep at the hotel, it will be fine. The noise level at the hotel during the day is loud and wouldn't say it is worth the money spent. Although a fantastic location, the photos and information on the website are outdated and misleading. They offered a more expensive room "with WiFi" which we declined, but when we got there we had WiFi in our booked room. Rooms are neat and clean, no room service so remember to take Sunlight to wash coffee cups. Staff is friendly, however, the hotel will do better under experienced management. We loved visiting Simon's Town, but will not stay here next time.
The address on the website is incorrect. This is Boulders Beach Resort. Furthermore, the information was that there is no WiFi or TV. I therefore had to finish my work at home first and could only leave Durbanville at 17:00. By the time I arrived in Simonstad, it was already dark. The address is also wrong and the signal there is very weak, so my GPS could not locate the place. I searched up and down, woman-alone in the dark for over an hour, the owner was located and then called me and explained how to get there. I have already been to the place twice, but there is no signage or indication that it was the right place. Staff had already left, but my room was ready. The owner sent me the WiFi password, so I could actually have clocked in at 12:00 in the afternoon and worked from there with the lovely view of the sea. The room is comfortable, but there wasn't even a milk for my morning coffee. The above mistakes caused me a lot of unnecessary stress.
The restaurants were not nearby so we had to drive out for all our meals. The accommodation was also overpriced at R800 per night with no meals included. There was also no TV in the room so when the weather did not permit going to the beach, there was nothing to do at the lodge. I would hope that meals will be served soon to justify the high cost for accommodation. Alternately the price has to be dropped.
I'm sadly very disappointed in my stay. Firstly, I couldn't get hold of the hotel for an entire hour telephonically to confirm my check in time. The room was nice enough, but from having stayed at many places before I think it was quite lacking. I only had one sachet of normal coffee, the WiFi didn't work in the area that my room was, no bottled water provided and my outside table had no chairs to sit on and enjoy the view. It's sad to say that I won't be staying here again, nor would I recommend it.
Cleaning of rooms was not up to standard at all. Room was dirty on arrival, floor was not clean and bathroom had "hair" in bath and on floor. Everywhere in the corners of the floors were dust wools and dirt. Light bulb on bedside table was out of order. Front door has water damage and does not show well at all. Hot water in bathroom was cold two nights, and twice there was no water flow. Paving in "courtyard" is terribly uneven and difficult to walk on, simple maintenance will keep it level. One easily stumbles on the bricks. Stairs in front of hotel lights were off two nights, which is very dangerous. Emergency number or after-hours number in the evening is not staffed.
Too overrated. Paying too much for what you get. The place definitely needs a decent cleaning. One bed mat was rolled up on the other side of the bed. Coffee marks on the foot of the sheets. No TV. The weather did not allow us to go out. Not a restaurant nearby that serves dinners.
We were unfortunately very disappointed. No TV, no fridge, no view. Literally just a bed, a bath and a toilet. We specifically, when we had to choose from our many options, instead chose a place that was a little more expensive because we were only staying for 3 days we wanted a little better, we could have gotten a lot better if we had booked elsewhere for the money we paid per paid night. The 4th night we paid less in Bloubergstrand and in a beautiful place with a view, nice decor, a TV, modern fully equipped kitchen and overnight. So we regretted our choice.
Good base to visit attractions in and around Simonstad. Spacious and comfortable accommodation. The reception was a bit impersonal, with no contact during the two days' stay.
Unfortunately the restaurant was closed and there was no breakfast. I think it was also relatively expensive for one night.
I had a great stay at Boulders Beach Lodge and Restaurant. I was there alone as a student, so I had to walk everywhere. The lodge is located at an ideal place, close to the penguins and the places I had to go. The staff were always friendly, their food is amazing and the ambience is so relaxing. I would recommend a TV, but that is maybe because I was alone, and the TV would have been a great company at night. But other than that, I will stay there again. Thanks.
You couldn't find a better location and the restaurant food is great.
Had a lovely few days at Boulders, conveniently close to very beautiful Boulders (with penguins) beach. Very nice view from restaurant. Restaurant needs some renovation and innovative menu. Friendly staff and owners.
Great experience friendly staff and very well placed.
Good location close to ocean. Enjoyed the penguins sleeping right by our room! Affordable.
We had a nice time. The 2 gray cats contributed to the tranquility!
Since I was on a business visit, I could not enjoy everything as I would have liked, time did not allow it, but I would like to use your service there again on the next occasion, because everything was very good , neat and had no problem. Thank you very much for your kindness and I will be happy to refer you to friends and colleagues.
Alles het dit die moeite werd gemaak, pragtige uitsigte van die see en pikkewyne terwyl ek 'n heerlike ontbyt geniet het, sal definitief teruggaan.
We stayed two days in the lodge. The lodge is located next to the Boulders Beach penguins. The rooms and the restaurant were very good. The location of the lodge makes it very easy to visit the Cape Peninsula. Security is provided by a guard.
Friendly service. Free breakfast included. Will definitely come back again.
Room needs a makeover. Restaurant is only open for breakfast, therefore the name is misguiding. For this much money, better accommodation can be found in the area.
See rating.
What a fantastic place to spend the night. We were welcomed with open arms and immediately felt at home. The penguins saying good morning to us every morning and good night every night was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. We can recommend with great confidence that any traveler can spend the night here.
Delicious, affordable accommodation, with everything one could expect.
The price per person is too high, but it was all that was available in the area on short notice.
We arrived on Saturday afternoon (after check-out time) but were informed early that our room was ready. When it comes to the restaurant, it's a whole different story. At breakfast we waited almost half an hour for our coffee/tea and children's drinks. It only arrived after I had to complain. And the time it took to get the breakfast to the table, even after I had to complain, was TOTALLY unacceptable. Only after I started to complain were we informed that my wife could not get the breakfast she ordered as they did not have the muesli to add. The kids couldn't order waffles either.
Penguins can be noisy, but that's part of Boulders Beach. It is very close to Cape Point Nature Reserve which is a must for every visitor.
Would like to see the lodge renovated and more attention given to general cleanliness and the garden. The penguins that come to sleep in front of your door at night are very cute, but the next morning when you want to leave your room they are no longer so cute! The food was pretty good.
The place is very neat and clean, but I have stayed in other similar places for much less. The wooden stairs that led to my room are loose in places and there is only an arrangement on one side. If a person were to lose their balance due to the loose step, such a person could be seriously hurt, especially because the loose step is quite high.
The place needs serious maintenance. The penguins litter the place and it is not cleaned. The food is very greasy.
Although this lodge is excellently located, it actually counts against it. It is very close to the Boulders and the famous penguins, but you can't see them from the accommodation anyway. The problem, however, is the parking situation. There is no parking. But this is not the main reason why the lodge was disappointing. The night before I stayed in a guest house in Vishoek where I paid exactly the same and the quality of the accommodation was 100 times better. The tiny room offered very little privacy, as the curtains were almost transparent and anyone from the street would be able to see into my room. There were only feather pillows on the bed. With so many people suffering from allergies, I can't believe that in this day and age there are still accommodations that use feather pillows. When the curtain was closed, the plaster fell off the wall. The lamp on the bedside table (a steel structure with a bare bulb, no lampshade) shocked me when I touched it. So I just redeemed it. The loincloth closet in the room's doors opened every now and then by itself. It makes one quite startled. I think this lodge relies on their location for bookings and don't think they need to put in any further effort. I would definitely not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.
Shower over the bath leaked water onto the floor. Room extremely hot. Was told that a fan would be supplied, but this did not happen.
The site says the Lodge is right on Boulder's Beach and it is! It shares a parking lot with the beach, so you can just walk out of your room and onto the sand! There are penguins nesting on the grounds as well!
See the stars below.
Staff were really disinterested during our stay, which was sad as everything else was lovely. Rooms on ground floor get to hear lots of penguin noise! They have a perfect location right on the beach. We found food to be overpriced and below average.
