120 guests' feedbackWhat a joy! Esti is the best, we only stayed one night but we fell in love with the place. Absolutely beautiful.
Such a spectacular location. Idyllic log cabin on a lake. The host was very friendly and helpful. Well-appointed, clean and comfortable. Wood-burning fireplace, braai facility. Also row boats, tag & release fishing options. Walking through the forest. Stunning. Will definitely go back.
Beautiful nature hideaway, yet close to amenities, with the friendliest staff makes the accommodation a definite “return to" destination. Unit was clean with everything you need.
We enjoyed our stay at Brambleberry. Unfortunately it was only a stop over for 1 night. The cottages were clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the lake. Next time we will stay for a longer period.
Accommodation was well equipped, clean and had good support from Bev and Dewald.
A fantastic log cabin on a dam surrounded by forests. Very nice place to stay and very conveniently located.
We were received very kindly at the gate. Our unit was clean with fresh water. There was braai wood and we could just sit quietly and enjoy the view. And the location was excellent.
Beautiful and comfortable stay in a wooden cabin on a lake, lovely and cozy with a fireplace and close to a lot of attractions. We enjoyed the animal life that we could view and hear from the deck, especially birds. We rowed on the lake and had a braai on the deck, and went on short hikes on the property and surrounds. We also enjoyed watching the Olympics at night! We definitely recommend Brambleberry to everyone. Dewald was on hand to assist with anything, whether extra toilet paper or advice on walks in the area.
It was a great, amazing setting. Dewald was great, very accommodating and helpful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Brambleberry. The log cabins are great value for money, with the most amazing views of the lake and forest.
We had a wonderful stay, the view on the dam is unbeatable, the tranquility excellent, and the silence heavenly.
What a wonderful gem to stay over on our way back to Jhb. The unit is equipped with everything you would need for a night or a week! So peaceful to sit on the deck and listen to the frogs at night and birds in the morning. And the host is a star, so friendly and helpful. We will be back!
What an incredible escape we had! The location at Brambleberry was simply breathtaking, offering tranquility and the delightful serenade of birds in the adjacent forest. Dewald provided us with a fantastic and friendly welcome and guided us through the experience. The Lakeside Cabin was immaculate, exuding a cozy ambiance, and the recently added deck overlooking the dam was nothing short of spectacular. Despite the frigid temperature the night we arrived, a generous supply of dry firewood awaited us beside the fireplace. The details could go on and on, but for now, we express our gratitude and our desire to return for another visit!
We had a great time at Brambleberry. We were a large group of people and all 7 of us and all our luggage easily fit into the house and bedrooms. The deck below and above is perfect for early morning coffee and downstairs also nice for a late afternoon barbecue. The view is breathtaking. We couldn't fish from home because grasses in the pond, but there are other nearby ponds that we could visit. Dewald was a winner. He helped us very nicely on our arrival with luggage, he is very friendly and went out of his way to make our stay at Brambleberry comfortable. We will definitely visit again.
Close to all the attractions in the area, yet so peaceful. It feels like you are miles from civilisation!
The super friendly host made us feel very much at home. There was enough wood for the fireplace. The Lakeside Cabin is beautiful and clean with a lovely view. Perhaps only a mirror can be installed in the bedroom. It was a special place for a cozy visit.
We enjoyed the most amazingly tranquil getaway. A true gem if you want to escape from the noise and distractions of your everyday life. The owners are most kind and considerate; the staff on-site is friendly and caring, and the cabins are comfortable and fully equipped. Will absolutely recommend this place to everyone as a definite must!
An amazing getaway tucked away in the woods on a beautiful dam near Nottingham Road.
First time we stay in the big lodge. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. Collin welcomed us and you could see the place through a ring. Clean, tidy and the most beautiful flowers placed everywhere. We were a group of 14 people on our way to an MSC Cruise in Durban, but this was definitely the highlight of the weekend. It truly is where time stands still and your soul finds time to rest. Many thanks to Bev for the arrangements and the hospitality. You guys are the best.
We had a lovely weekend. Will definitely stay here again. Rooms have beautiful views and house is very well equipped.
Colin, the host is an absolute gem.
See stars.
Enjoyed the silence.
For the money value, it was perfect. Everything was clean and tidy. All appliances were in good condition. Lovely view, restful and calm. The staff was friendly and helpful. It is rustic, but definitely worth the money. Our family will visit again.
A big mess when it rains with so much mud around the house. Bedding and curtains are old. It would help if there were better directions where to turn off. The manager there was very helpful and we got very good service from him.
This is a very nice place. Would like to have stayed longer, but maybe next time. Very peaceful, nice view and atmosphere. Only drawback was the dirt road when we got there, but also taking in consideration that it was raining and the road was not really suitable for a car. Colin was great and very helpful. Overall, very nice place!
Friendly welcome by Collin with an already burning fireplace to chase away the cold. Bev's recommendations regarding hangouts are appreciated. Thank you very much, we enjoyed our weekend at Brambleberry.
There was a person staying in our unit when we arrived. Load shedding does not allow a water pump, so no hot shower or bath when you arrive if it is load shedding. Microwave turntable broken. Caretaker was a champ.
We suddenly decided on the place after seeing it on the website. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations. Photos are very old. The lake is almost overgrown with water grass. Signboard at entrance has branches and leaves in front. All bright spot was Colin who received us nicely. House was dirty, marks on floors, dust under the carpet. Cobwebs everywhere. Cutlery, blunt knives, no can opener. No water during load shedding (we were not informed about this). There are loose screws and hinges everywhere. Daily rate ridiculous for what you get. The house definitely needs TLC. We will not be visiting the Midlands again. There are many more to mention, but we were very disappointed.
Absolutely beautiful venue. Excellent service.
I would recommend Brambleberry to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It offers a fantastic, peaceful atmosphere, fairytale trees and makes you think you are in a rainforest.
Hidden gem to go to with family and friends.
Incredibly beautiful. Will go again and stay longer.
Brambleberry is an experience I can highly recommend. The cabin facilities are basic, but more than sufficient. The little fireplace warms the cabin to a cosy temperature during winter evenings. Waking each morning to the sound of birds in the trees, a view of the dam and all surrounding nature can destress any individual. Bev and Ollie are wonderful people with great recommendations for the local food or spots of interest. They're willing to help out with local arrangements and information, thanks Bev for the number of the sport's masseuse to ease those post-race niggles.
We were received very kindly, we were helped to unload our things. The cabin is cleaned daily, wood is provided for the fireplace. We had a great time relaxing in front of the fireplace, as well as on the porch overlooking the lake and all the birds.
The driver was extremely professional and helped us carry in luggage. During load shedding he switched on the generator so we could get on with normal things. The silence was deafening. Highly recommend.
Beautiful lakeside cabins, tucked away snugly in the Natal Midlands. Even in winter you hear so many birds, and even owls at night. Lovely fireplace in lounges, heaters in rooms. Full DStv. They were willing to turn on the generator for us during load shedding, much appreciated. Wish we could spend more time there to walk around in the natural beauty and get to know more of the many birds. We will definitely go there again and give ourselves more time there. They are still working on installing WiFi.
The cottage is comfortably equipped with everything needed for a rest. The service was impeccable and friendly. The only negative is weak mobile signal and there is no internet connection, although this can also be a plus. Real value for money!.
The log cabins, facing the dam, is serene and the atmosphere is fantastic. This is a hidden gem and we will definitely return for a longer stay.
Escape from the city noise. Wooden house with a lovely atmosphere.
We had a lovely 4 nights stay in the Lakeside Cabin and loved every minute of it. Comfortable, neat, clean accommodation. Very friendly service. And situated in the most breathtaking natural surroundings. We will visit again for sure!
Wonderful setting, clean, well equipped and peaceful.
Against the dam. Nice view and lots of trees.
Manuel for microwave, shortage of plugs for basin and round plug adapter are the only niggles we encountered. Is the water drinkable?
Family and friends had such fun rowing and walks in forest such a relaxing time rustic but everything you require great that there is not much signal so everyone enjoyed laughing and talking.
The venue and setting is beautiful, but the house needs some maintenance, new light bulbs, a deep clean (spider webs, etc). Thank you.
Brambleberry is such a relaxing, quaint and beautiful spot tucked away in the woods. Really enjoyed our stay.
Would easily stay there again.
Beautiful log cabin by a lake, amazingly tranquil spot, absolutely loved it! Can I buy it?
The oven needs serious attention, only worked on grill at the highest temperature. Tin opener didn't work either.
The road to the house is just one big mess and we had to make arrangements to park our motorbikes at the Nottingham Hotel and transport them back to the house because the road is so bad that 3 motorbikes fell and caused a lot of damage. So it must be clearly stated that it is not recommended that motorcycles should go there due to the road If it wasn't for the road, I believe we would have used the place one weekend a month.
The setting is lovely and tranquil. The caretaker is friendly welcoming. Equipment is on the older side. Feel it is a bit overpriced, unfortunately.
Peaceful such a relaxing atmosphere.
Just make sure you have the right vehicle to get to the cottage when it rains! We had a great time and the caretaker looked after us well, thank you! We could also barbecue on the balcony while it was raining. It was cold, but there is plenty of warm bedding and we slept well. Some of the things like the stove are a bit old but it didn't really bother. The tap water is not really suitable for drinking, but the caretaker made sure there was plenty of fresh water to use.
Great place with and exceptional view, cozy fire place for the cool nights.
There were dishes in the drying rack. The trash was not thrown out. The linen was old and due to of which did not appear clean. There was a large group in the house next door playing loud music and making noise late into the night. We expected a quiet getaway.
Not value for money at all. An unpleasant experience. Furniture is old and dirty.
A little maintenance here and there - the faucets in the lower shower are coming loose, and the tub's one faucet is dry (below). The braai wood is wet. All in all it was paradise, my children and I had the experience as heaven on earth.
The wooden cabin is on a dam with lots of trees and birdlife. The fireplace worked perfectly seeing as how it was cold and wet. A lot of wood was provided which was convenient. Colin, who lives on the premises, was very friendly and helpful. You just have to take into account that there is no internet signal here. Very peaceful for us, but could be an issue should you need internet.
Everything was clean and tidy. Collin received us kindly and helped us with our luggage. He also made a fire to help ward off the cold.
See stars.
Good value for money.
The range of log cabins is in a private forest with views over a nature-rich pond. The place offers absolute peace of mind with the sound of frogs in the evenings and the birds in the day. Definitely a place to visit.
Service was very professional. The main house was clean and very tidy. Very much met our requirements. Will go back again anytime.
Colin the manager is an absolute gem. Bev is such an awesome host as well!
We had the most relaxing time at Brambleberry lodge. Waking up to beautiful views, long walks in the woods, fire at night - what more could you want? Central, safe and great hospitality.
We spent 4 nights/5days at Brambleberry Lodge and it exceeded our expectations! The setting is absolutely idyllic, so peaceful and tranquil. But the unexpected bonus is that it is actually so close to so many places on the Midlands Meander. Colin, the manager was lovely - nothing was too much trouble for him, and his manner is very pleasant indeed. He is a real asset. Originally we had booked the 8 sleeper as there were 8 of us, but then upgraded to the 16 sleeper which was really fabulous! A lot of outside space on the deck and the bedrooms and bathrooms very comfortable indeed. All in all, we had a magical visit and would love to come back in the future. Thank you!
Beautiful place, good location, friendly service, incredibly peaceful. Will definitely visit again.
Was a very nice overnight stay. Will sleep there again. Very beautiful nature.
We really appreciated the free upgrade to a larger unit. Rowing on the dam was a big favorite for everyone.
It was a restful and relaxing stay filled with silence, serenity, birdsong, and calming views.
Beautiful place! Took us to another world. So grateful for the experience.
Very comfortable, lovely warm fireplace.
Had a great time. House is well equipped.
Highly recommended. Sorry we only spent one night there!
Beautiful surroundings and lake. Perhaps a warning for low suspension vehicles especially during rainy season, the roads are a bit dodgy, rutted and slippery. Also cabin is in need of a bit of exterior maintenance due to weathering the elements in the years gone by. Oven needs an upgrade.
The log cabin was very comfortable with everything we needed provided. The view from the deck, overlooking the lake, with forests as a backdrop, is spectacular. We received a friendly welcome and professional service from Colin. This place is a real gem in the Midlands!
Most beautiful view with the loveliest atmosphere. Perfect for people wanting to get away from it all. You can hear your heartbeat there.
Super service from Bev (reservations) and Collin (site manager). The cottage is well equipped, however just bring an insect or spider repellant.
Definitely the place to stay if you want to rest!
The only problem was the grass in the lake. We were disappointed with the fishing, but a very well needed rest, with beautiful surrounds. Definitely a place to go away for.
Very comfortable stay in a well equipped timber house. Lovely view over small lake from the deck while having supper. Peaceful setting except for occasional train passing by. The manager is extremely helpful and friendly.
My normal vehicle did not enjoy the road with the wet and stones (boulders).
Clinton welcomed us with great enthusiasm. He is from Zimbabwe and extremely helpful and friendly. We were mother and daughter with 2 grandchildren under 5 years. Clinton helped us unload our luggage and pack it up again. He also came to help in the middle of the night when we accidentally pressed the Emergency Button which is in a very inconvenient place next to the bathroom. (perhaps my only negative comment). Would love to stay there again.
My only concern was the water pump that never stops although it can only be heard in the evening because of the quietness. The service from Collen though you'd simply turn a blind eye to minor issues like that. I have already recommended friends of this rare beauty I have discovered and will continue to do so. Such an amazing experience.
Ground clearance vehicle highly recommended if it's rainy, beautiful view, and rich birdlife. Perfect for an overnight stop on the way to the East Coast. Just don't need cell phone or internet reception. You're just going to relax.
It's an idyllic place where you can really relax. The surroundings are particularly beautiful and the atmosphere is fantastic. Our unit needs maintenance on the outside, although the inside is in very good condition. The grasses in the pond make fishing difficult and if they can address that it will be fantastic for anglers.
Some maintenance involves the faucets in the lower shower and tub. A supply of garbage bags can save the trash outside the back door quite a bit. The firewood for the hearth is damp. Everything is surmountable and the end is a phenomenally beautiful experience. The electric fence needs maintenance, but the security was optimal throughout. The dirt road is in drivable condition. Location is fantastic.
The place is neat, clean and spacious. The view from the master bedroom and living area is particularly beautiful over the dam. Will stay there again.
The main lodge was a welcome upgrade thank you, it was comfortable and clean, especially the beds. Colin was always helpfull when asked for assistance. The trout fishing was a surprise, good size trout in excellent condition. With regard to the kitchen and bar appliances, they are in need of some urgent maintenance. The outdoor verandah's wooden railings need some attention as they are not secure. Overall a good stay, but with some general maintenance it will become a great place to visit.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Brambleberry! Awesome scenic spot to escape the hustle and bustle. Will definitely be back for another visit!
Nice central location near restaurants and shops. A bit of dirt road near the gate is a bit difficult to drive, especially with a small car. Beautiful surroundings and Colin was very considerate and helpful too. Good value for money.
We only spent the night. Very nice and neat. Staff helpful.
Beautiful view and nature. We were unfortunate as we had booked a specific unit and were then moved to a smaller unit without notice. The owner was supposed to give me a refund for the difference, but never did.
If you are looking for tranquility, this is the ideal place. Many thanks to Colin who kept our place clean, as well as making sure there was always enough wood. Thank you very much Bev for allowing us to stay longer. We appreciate your effort despite difficult circumstances. We will definitely visit your place again.
Wow, most beautiful place, and so quiet, we enjoyed it so much will definitely stay again.
It is a very peaceful place where we could sit on the porch, eat and chat and take in the nature around us.
My wife and I enjoyed a few days at Brambleberry in early August, a perfect midlands getaway during those chilly winter months. It was easy to find, close to many of the midlands attractions, but felt far away enough from anything resembling hustle and bustle. Plenty of firewood was supplied. We would walk out of the cabin, around the lake and into the forest and create our own path. The staff were great and left us alone unless we needed anything. We would recommend this to anyone, and will be definitely be back.
It's picture perfect outside, the surroundings smell nice it feels safe, our 5 year old grandchild came to ask if we could visit the whole holiday! I can't wait to be there in the winter to light the fireplace! Great!
Peaceful, place is clean and neat. We'll definitely come again.
We truly heard the silence. With the fog over the water and the frogs and crickets in the evening, these are 2 evenings that we truly enjoy the company of our family. Thanks for the service of Collin who does everything so quickly.
Neat and clean units. You just have to drive carefully with a regular vehicle on the access road to the residential unit.
We know the Midlands area well and this was a wonderful find. We had a lovely stay and the setting was beautiful. I will definitely recommend this accommodation to friends.
The reception was warm. Thanks to Colin. For the two teenagers, the data collection was a challenge. But made sure we could have fun together. Full DStv made up. Flies were a pest but heard that it generally takes over in the district the time of year in December. The Spar was sold out with spray paint and stickers. Beautiful area, weather has entertained us with mist and rain and sunshine alternately. Boat rowing was a highlight as well as walks in the forest.' A nice experience with enough of the basics to be able to set ourselves up comfortably. Note to neighbors: in such a peaceful place, please leave the loud music at home. It reverberates badly and the nature here has its own song. The visit is one for the album. Thank you!
Was very nice and quiet by the dam. The Cabin was very nice clean and clean towels.
Collin, the manager was very helpful. The lodge was excellent in every way except the whole Nottingham area was infested with flies unfortunately, with all the issues Colin made it a comfortable stay. The dam and views, the greenery and birds were excellent viewing.
We chose this destination because of the trout fishing option - unfortunately, the dam has been neglected so the weed has grown everywhere making it impossible to fish. It appears the owner does not stay on the property and it was hard to get hold of anyone there. The cabins are old and need a service. The fridge had not been cleaned. The shower did not drain so overflowed when showering. The kitchen could do with more equipment. This place has a lot of potential, it just needs some TLC. We enjoyed the indoor fireplace and the wood provided was great. It seems the staff were staying in both of the other cabins.
For getting away and finding yourself, this is ideal! All accessories you use in your own home are there. Fireplace for the winter can be quite romantic. Atmosphere very peaceful, love the view, so idyllic! Will definitely come again. Thanks Ollie, Bev and Colin!
The house is large and well appointed with beautiful lake views. It has everything you'd need. The fire was packed and lit in the fireplace. The braai was packed and lit. Bedding was lovely and the beds comfortable. We were 3 ladies on a motorcycle trip through 4 countries and were tired and dusty. We felt welcome and warm and spoiled. The place is beautiful. We were upgraded to the main house which is large for 3 ladies. A lovely place close to restaurants and Notties.
It was easy to make this booking and the owners were friendly and responsive. The accommodation delivered everything we were expecting. We really enjoyed our stay.
We received excellent customer service from the staff at Brambleberry, even before we arrived, upon our arrival and as we were leaving. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and very well equipped - and the view of the dam and plantations was amazing. Very peaceful and quiet. We would love to visit Brambleberry again and bring friends along to perhaps then stay in the bigger cabin and stay for 2 nights or longer!
Dennis (driver) deserves a medal. After a tree fell on our cabin on Christmas night and completely destroyed access to our accommodation, he came to help us get out of the house in the early hours of the morning and upgraded to the big house. He had to work all Christmas Day and Family Day to repair the stairs to the cabin and saw up and remove the tree. Despite the great fright, we still rested wonderfully. Sorry there are no fish in the lake.
Very nice and quiet private accommodation only the road needs a bit of renovation.
See stars.
The location is stunning, as all 3 cabins overlook the dam, with lots of ducks and birds around it was lovely to sit out on the deck and relax. However, it was just my mom and I staying at the cabin, there was only the manager on the property who welcomed us as we arrived and some workers who were fixing one of the cabins. Unfortunately we didn't feel safe as the property is quite far off the road and there isn't really anyone around. The front door did not lock as the lock was faulty, luckily there was wooden type of security gate in front of the door which locked. We tried to lock our bedroom door but that didn't lock either. With us being two women alone in a cabin that didn't lock, we felt very vulnerable and didn't get much sleep. The place has so much potential, but unfortunately is a bit run down. its definitely a great holiday for a large group or family but i would not recommend it for individuals on their own.
The Lakeside Cabin is a bit tight for 4 people, but it met all the needs. The furniture in the living room is relatively new, but the bed in the master bedroom needs replacing as it lies towards the middle. On arrival we were a bit unsure what was going on, but the workers helped us and later the manager also came to introduce himself. Mobile phone reception is quite poor which helps to appreciate the peaceful scenery. I would recommend putting a fan in the place and maybe looking at replacing the pans in the kitchen. We will definitely visit here again.
The road was a bit bad and very steep, went with a small buggy and struggled to drive back uphill. Haven't been to such a beautiful and peaceful place for a long time, just a pity the bedding wasn't clean.
The location is a private valley. It is much more intimate than one would expect. As a result, the sound of voices and music resonates so clearly that the distance between the 3 units almost doesn't matter. There are also frequent goods trains passing by the premises which can be heard throughout the valley. The owners were not present, and there seemed to be few guidelines for the conduct and consideration of guests.
We were literally speechless when we arrived, it was like a hidden cottage between pine forests. Would definitely go again one day, only negative thing was that the kettle did not work and there was no water the 2nd day we were there. But we didn't report it, we were back on the road early, but would've likes to start the cold foggy morning with hot coffee.
