38 guests' feedbackBeautiful surroundings and house in the Karoo. Beautiful old stone house is well equipped with everything needed and more! Had a great time and barbecued on the stoep and enjoyed the hottub hole out! Received us with delicious warm home-baked bread and warm hospitality. It was also nice that our friends' dogs were welcome. Would really recommend Brinksfontein to people who like the Karoo and see a chance for the long dirt road (which by the way is not in bad condition at all).
Our hostess was very welcoming with a home-baked plaasbrood and some of the nicest peach jam! We truly loved everything about it. A long drive from CT, so in our opinion, not for only a weekend, but so very worth it. We cycled, walked, spent hours in the very clean and welcoming cold (or hot if you chose) splash pool. Comfortable beds, bedding pristinely clean and fresh. The photos do not do this 'piece of heaven' justice. There is WiFi and it worked well until the services were down in the entire area. Will definitely be back. Highly recommended!
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to delay our trip by a month. This was a blessing in disguise. The water damage caused by the recent heavy rains was more than made up for by the abundant flora in bloom. The vast expanse of Karoo solitude and beauty around us was breathtaking. There was also so much landscape to explore. This is definitely on our list of places worthy of a second visit.
We were welcomed in the area with the most beautiful Karoo wildflowers that don't have to stand behind the Namaqualand flowers at all! Thank you, Rae, for allowing us and our four-legged child to enjoy Brinksfontein with everything we needed! That home-baked bun and jam you welcomed us with is definitely a winner. The Karoo once again stole our hearts, especially when we were greeted with snow on the morning of our departure (still regretting that we couldn't stay for another nap). We have already recommended Brinksfontein to a few families. Until next time.
Rae Myburgh is an excellent hostess who welcomed us with fresh farm bread and apricot jam. Brinksfontein stole our heart in the 5 days we were there. Kilometers away from people, great walking/mountain climbing adventures (just pack decent walking shoes, sneakers can work too), you see the most beautiful plant smell and different succulents true to the area. Beautiful walls around us where there are treasures lying around to pick up. The Brink house was so cozy and beautiful. Every night we made a fire inside and sat in front of the fireplace drinking sweet wine. Every morning and evening you can enjoy a delicious shower that gives hot water with gas. The cottage has solar power and offers two power points for the fridge and a cute ice machine. Ladies can enjoy drying their hair in the winter. No TV, but you don't have enough! There is Wi-Fi. Enjoy the silence away from the city, go for a walk, or read a good book in the living room where the morning sun wakes you up. We slept great with warm bedding and warm blankets. Outside you can sit and barbecue and even see stars that you can't see so beautifully anywhere else. The outdoor swimming pool can be heated and in winter you can sit nice and warm with a glass of wine. Our two Schnauzers were very welcome there, the farm is fenced. They really enjoyed the steps of 8-10km when you walk out of the gate. Don't worry about wood — Rae provides bags and bags! Bring all the food and drinks you need. You can't drive to "Spar" fast! We are going to go every June holiday now so no one else has to book! Just kidding, but still!
Clean air, plenty to do, great facilities and just a place where you can be close to nature and your Creator. Everyone could do with such a getaway event. Thanks for the treat!
Rae greeted us with homemade bread It was amazing! What a gem! We loved every moment. We had a great relaxing stay. The house was well equipped and the inside and outside braai areas make it a great stay all year round. The wood-fired tub was a real treat in the icy cold weather once we got it warm enough (tip: start the fire a few hours before depending on how hot you want it, it doesn't take that much wood to warm up). Amazing accommodation with everything needed for a lovely peaceful and private getaway. We will definitely see you again.
Had a great time at home.
The house was nicely rested and there is everything you need. We slept nice and warm and built a fireplace all day. Beautiful scenery and bliss for the soul. Thanks to Rae for the delicious freshly baked bread, jam and the delicious peasant recipe!
Had a particularly nice stay.
It was exactly the break we needed. Everything was as discussed with the hostess and we had a wonderful stay, the welcome sandwich and jam was a bonus and much enjoyed and appreciated. Felt safe, had a nice walk and jog on the farm and then just rested and read.
Three days of relaxing, walking and enjoying silence - everything you go to the Karoo for! And spoiled with fresh farm bread and apricot jam.
Peaceful bliss. Away from noise and a bright open starry sky that brings peace to your mind. We were 6 adults, 2 children and a young Great Dane, and each of us enjoyed the weekend immensely. Hours of talking and gathering around a fire that never burned out. Walks among the plants and hills. Tranquility without cell phones and TV. Making barbecue and potjie - and Rae's home-baked bread. Nice hot gas geyser shower. Warm sleep with feather duvet and hot water bottle. And still talking and hanging out and getting to know each other more deeply. As Arnie said "we'll be back!".
We really enjoyed our 5 nights at Brinksfontein. The open plan house is lovely sunny and the braai/fireplace in the middle of the house is effective in keeping the house warm in the evening. We drove out early in the morning to drink a coffee in the field and watch the sun rise. You can also barbecue in the field. The sunrises and sunsets provide a fantastic opportunity to take pictures. The stars are also amazing of course. Rae's freshly baked bread and jam meant that we had to adjust our menu for the first night. Lovely! We recommend Brinksfontein for sure.
It is remote, off the grid, beautiful farm house with views, friendly host and genuineness.
I've long ago realised that true beauty will not be found around the edges of anything or anyone, one really needs to want to experience or see beauty by delving even further inside the edges, more to the core. This place is one of those majestically beautiful places that only a few will ever gets to experience in their lifetime.
We had a great stay here! The road was quite long, and must be tackled with a van for sure. We received delicious freshly baked bread and jam on arrival. Everything was very nice clean and tidy. The view was very beautiful as well as the stars. There was WiFi, but no signal. We had a wonderful stay.
Farm is far from town on a reasonable dirt road but worth it for the peace and quiet.
Lovely authentic farmstay deep in the Moordenaarskaroo. Far removed from the troubles of the world. It has everything you need for self-catering - even an ice-maker - and the good Wi-Fi signal is a bonus should you choose to stay in touch. Take your hiking shoes and mountain bikes as there are plenty of farm tracks to explore, and costumes for enjoying the splash-pool-cum-hot-tub afterwards. No matter which side you come from there's a good deal of challenging gravel track to face, and if it's been raining, best go there in a AWD SUV or 4x4.
Brinksfontein was both of our first experiences of the Karoo. It was unforgettable, incredible and unimaginably beautiful, calm and peaceful. It's exactly what we both needed. Rae, you will not understand how much it meant to us that we were able to enjoy your beautiful place for the weekend. I am forever grateful to you. P.S. that fresh bread was amazing!
Quiet place and kids had so much fun playing and exploring! Great place to stay for people traveling to the Cape! It's so peaceful and quiet and ideal for someone who wants to relax!
See stars.
Rae was friendly and warm. The stone house is simple and beautiful, just right for the Karoo. Unfortunately the wood fire pool never heated up! It would have made the experience ideal.
Our family of 5 had a lot of fun, walking, catching up on sleep and playing in the snow. No one missed TV or social media. We love the Karoo and the isolation and therefore we can strongly recommend Brinksfontein.
For a weekend getaway this is the place to be. You only need 2 horses to explore the breathtaking place.
Was pleasantly surprised by warm home-baked bread and jam, nice bottle of cold wine in the fridge. Very kindly received by Rae and little Brink. On Saturday, Alwyn and Rae showed us further on the farm where they grow onions. The tranquility was incredible and the fresh air. No cell phones or iPads all weekend! Heaven! The stars were something you only read about.
It was just what we needed. Incredibly beautiful and dead silent. The dirt road is a bit long, but would drive it again to stay there. It's the place where your head and soul come together again. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Brinksfontein was exactly what we needed to relax and appreciate the beautiful starry sky in the evening! The dinner we ordered was wonderful and the pot bread unbeatable! It was a lot, we spent more than 2 days eating it. We spent the whole of our 2 days right there.
We enjoyed the visit so much. Just relax and experience the Karoo's tranquility. We were very well received and such friendly people.
Brinksfontein is the ideal Karoo getaway. The silence far from city noise, puts your mind to rest. Displaced stone-strewn landscape with its unique splendor, an avid photographer's dream. The house is comfortably furnished, and for the cooler evenings the cozy indoor barbecue is a plus. The beds are also comfortable, with cuddly down duvets and pillows. Rae's generous treat with steaming home-baked bread, and a flask of coffee, delicious on the porch. What more can one ask for. A very special "Trip down memory Lane". Thank you so much Rae.
The two nights at Brinksfontein was way too little. Now we will need to go again. The secluded silence is just wat we were looking for. We could walk around on the farm and explore. The house had everything we needed, although towels would've been great. Luckily we packed. We will visit again when there is no moon, because I need to come and take more photo's of the Karoo's starry heavens.
A freshly baked bread awaited us on arrival at Brinksfontein, delicious! Light lanterns, solar chargers, gas stoves and gas hot water made electricity useless. This farmhouse with its thick walls was deliciously warm and hostess, Rae, provided beautiful bedding and cutlery. Our two night visit was too short, but thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely visit again.
We booked because of Jan Braai's program and we are not disappointed. Rea went the extra mile with home-made jam and Muscadel for the cold.
For someone that wants to visit the Big Karoo, you find a better place. The hospitality and comfort of the accommodation is excellent. We'll visit again and strongly recommend it.
The dirt road felt like forever...but worth every bit. We have had toddlers to teenagers and everyone says one sleepover is too short. Would love to do it again for longer.
After a long dirt road, it was a pleasant surprise to find such a well-equipped house with all necessary amenities. Will definitely come back, especially in the winter and then just stay for a few days.
Incredibly beautiful area, secluded and quiet. Will break away here for at least 4-5 days next time. Ample walking and mountain biking space. House is very well furnished, and games and coloring books for toddlers. Route to the house preferably with SUV or bakkie, a normal sedan will struggle. Plan well and take enough food and drink, the town is far. Definitely a destination if you want to break away to a safe, secluded area with the most beautiful Karoo scenery.
The dirt road there makes one sceptical, but all our expectations were exceeded when we arrived. It was nice and clean, neat and well equipped ─ you completely forget that there is no signal or electricity. We will definitely stay there again and recommend it!
