Ouwerwe is a 4-bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and a fully-equipped kitchen. There is a fireplace in the lounge and a large veranda with braai facilities. Die Poortjie is a 2-bedroom, 1 bathroom cottage that can host 4 guests. It has a cozy stoep and braai lapa.
Otherwise head over to the Blougat, a small San cave, with room for 6 campers. This accommodation is all-inclusive with prepared meals. There is a flush toilet and hot water bush shower.
Bucklands is about 47 km from the pleasant Karoo town of Steytlerville. Early pioneers and hunters who came up from the Cape in their wagons frequented this historical region, which forms the southern reaches of the Plains of Camdeboo. They came in search of a new life and ivory. They established farms in the valley flanked by the Baviaans and Grootrivier Hoogte that you can visit today. The climate is typically Karoo, dry and healthy with hot days and cold nights.
Activities include bird watching, game drives, exploring age-old San paintings, scenic walks, horse riding, and mountain bike routes.

5 guests' feedbackWe had the perfect wedding anniversary 25 years later. The location is serene. The hosts, Hannes and Rienie, are absolutely lovely people and facilities are in top condition.
Fantastic. Secluded and in the mountains.
Friendly farmer. Outstanding landscape.
From the 4km rough track of the old wagon route to the Ouwerwe lodgings, abundant barbecue supplied that included farm reared lamb chops, home made kudu sausage and awesome veggie parcels to the comfortable rooms and covered veranda, our stay was perfect for a group of adventurers. Hannes and his wife offers real old world farm hospitality and a passion for the land. Without a doubt I'll be back with my tour company as well as my family.
We had a great time in a beautiful setting, but, the cottage was not clean when we arrived and the kitchen equipment needs attention.

Description
The Ouwerwe house was the outbuilding of the original farmstead on Bucklands, which was once an Inn on the Ox Wagon Route from Cape Town to Uitenhage. Today it is a 4-bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen, a fireplace in the lounge, and a large veranda with braai facilities. The house sleeps 12 people. Two of the bedrooms are furnished with a double bed and a single bed, while the third room has 2 single beds and a bunk bed. The fourth bedroom has 2 single beds. Both bathrooms are fitted with a bath and a shower. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove and fridge, and a wood-burning boiler for hot water. There is no Eskom power, no cell phone reception, and also no TV. Access to the Ouwerwe is by bakkie or SUV only. No 4x4 is required.
