The cutest Blikkiesdorp with a surprise at every turn. So much detail to make the place interesting. Goats that come to drink water at the houses early in the morning. Buffaloes drinking water (on the other side of the wire) at the other water hole. Hospitable owners - a warm home-baked bun and just a wild ride on the house! Fantastic experience.
Calla and Jan welcomed us with open arms. We traveled back from Williston back to PTA and spent the night there, I didn't see a chance to take any food with me and talked to Calla and she arranged the most delicious dinner roast beef and even breakfast for us. We even enjoyed a game drive and it was truly an experience. We look forward to our next visit there on the farm.
Blikkiesdorp is much more than just a "Shanty Town". So much attention has been paid to detail which makes it an exceptional experience. The place is very comfortable and well equipped with a very nice atmosphere. The owner even took care of a delicious, freshly baked sandwich upon our arrival.
We were a group of men who traveled together for work. The hangout area was a winner. The area has very little accommodation and this place definitely stood out. I might just recommend putting fans in the rooms.
Only place in SA where I felt comfortable sleeping with an open door. Not unlocked, the top door was wide open all night. The foxes' communication was something to remember. The goats that come to drink water between the shanty dwellings make the experience something I want to retell all the time. Frans, the host, or rather my 'personal butler' for the weekend, took this stay to another level. Everything was great!
Whenever we go to the Northern Cape this will be our stop over and is highly recommended to all traveling through this area. The owners Calla and Willem is the salt of the earth, genuine people that will help you where ever they can. We had a fantastic stay, thanks again.
