79 guests' feedbackTo feel like you are the only people on earth is a rare experience. We stayed in Witkruis Cottage and the views all around the cottage are things you dream of. Mountains behind you, mountains in front of you and mountains to the side of you. Inside is comfortable and quaint with everything you need. We loved the experience of solar and gas and comfortably cooked meals and made coffee. The bed was super comfortable and we slept like the dead. The bathroom is a lovely size with the most amazing views while you shower. We enjoyed a walk to the other cottages and house and mountain biking between the vineyards. I didn't want to pack up and go home to the suburbs. I will be back.
Always amazing. I have been there 3 times now and each time is better than the last. No signal, which is perfect. Stunning views. Has a hot tub, which is the best part. Definitely going back again. One of my favourite places to go for a remote getaway.
Wonderful place where you find peace for your soul. Enjoyed everything so much and it is so beautiful there. From the beautiful house to the beautiful trees and plants. Can't wait until we can go again.
Very peaceful and an ideal place to get away from everything - cell phones, TV, etc. However, the gas geyser and shower need very urgent attention. As requested, we did not go to the geyser at all, but could only enjoy a hot shower once for about 40 seconds during the three days' stay. The geyser turns on but does not go above 18C. The gas stove also takes a lifetime to boil just two cups of water.
Would love to go again in the summer, was too cold to use the wood fire tub. But we really enjoyed the quiet getaway.
Breathtakingly beautiful. The hiking trail is a little overgrown and the hot water in the shower is a little tricky to work out, but overall just everything!
Baboons Gift is the most beautiful house with the nicest porch in the trees, but the place needs serious maintenance and a good cleaning. It is raining inside on the bed and on the table on the stoep because leaks. The gas geyser needs a good service and so does the power system. There are bugs that have nested in that thatched roof and are crawling out everywhere. Fortunately, I brought Doom with me. The bathroom almost had a bug carpet, so many there were. If the roof is redone, the geyser and power system are serviced, and the place is well scrubbed, I will go again. Very helpful, but could only do so much about the power and geyser. I didn't stay my 3rd night because I didn't want a cold shower and the power system screaming all night.
I would like to recommend it because the setting is beautiful, but the house is dilapidated and a safety risk. Doorknobs are broken, chairs are broken, boards are broken from liners and a big risk if you step on them. The scenery is beautiful, but the house needs serious renovation and therefore it is not worth the money. My friends were disappointed.
Beautiful scenery in nature reserve. Very isolated setting. No cell reception. Loads of spiders and frogs in the house. Only one of the two showers had hot water. No honesty basket filled with products as advertised. The splash pool was empty so we couldn't swim.
We are disappointed.
The place was difficult to find. None of the contact numbers picks up their phone calls. When you eventually get to the cottage its a catfish and not what was advertised. It is s self check in so you never know if you right or wrong. There is no network reception at all. So if there is an emergency you need to drive out to be able to even call. Whole place is solar powered so it might not even be chsrged when you get there. The zink plates were broken animal's could enter the cottage. The complimentary snack basket is not complimentary at all you pay for it. Place needs better maintenance it seemed like it was breaking apart. Scenery is beautiful but you feel uneasy and not safe. Not worth the price that was paid. The pictures are probably very old so add about 20 years pf wear and tear to it.

If you want to get away from the city and busy life then I highly recommend this destination. Just be careful not to signal here so your phone won't work.
Accommodation could do with renovation. Very friendly staff. Mountain water very nice!
We stayed in Swarkruis cottage, the view from the veranda was beautiful, the walking routes were clearly marked, the feeling of life was surprising and everything in the cottage worked.
The house could do with some maintenance but we feel it was worth every cent! Sadly the dam was almost empty. Lovely big fridges. Wonderful to be in nature with no WiFi or cell reception to distract. Will definitely be back!
Perfect place for a peaceful weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We decided to get away from the city for a few days, and chose the cottage because it has no WiFi signal. Much to our surprise, even our teenage daughters loved the holiday - enjoy walking, riding their bikes, paddling on the dam and just relaxing - and even asked to stay a few extra nights. The cottage is rustic but charming, and the setting is exquisite.
It's a very nice place to get away in nature.
Would love to come again and explore the hiking trails. Beautiful surroundings.
Had a great time at Buitenstekloof, will definitely come back again.
Although the place is beautiful and remote, everything is nice clean and tidy in the cottage, it was disappointing to see that the photos on the website did not correspond at all to how it really was. If you hear about a mountain pool that is 10 meters from your house, you assume it is a pool for children. Not to mention the beautiful photos that are on the website of children frolicking on the river with a canoe, they do not exist at all. Would recommend the place for a honeymoon couple, but not at all for a family with children. The description since there is a "goodie-bag" waiting for all guests in the cottage, they forget to say that you have to pay for the items you use.
You must definitely be a nature lover!
Location of cottage is good and is tidy inside.
Shower could use some work, the timer kicks in quite fast.
Unforgettable! Quiet! So delicious!!!
A must to recharge the soul!
We had to stay over at Worcester for business, but wanted to combine it with peace of mind. This was the ideal place to relax after a few days of work, no TV and no internet, this was perfect for us, only the mountains and nature!
Enjoy nature and tranquility. All basic necessities are provided. No communication with the outside world.
It was wonderful and very peaceful in the beautiful and clean nature. The hiking trails were lovely. The bird sounds are so beautiful when you wake up early in the morning. It is a lovely place to rest.
A getaway in the most beautiful scenery. The most beautiful night sounds and fresh air you can breathe. Nature is breathtaking. The cottages are too dear and it reminded me of our times as children on my grandmother's farm. Something that every person should come and experience. Peace of mind and relaxation.
This is the perfect getaway (from everything - technology included) for a nature lover.
I enjoyed stay. Only disappointed in the fact that the geyser didn't work correctly and the lights didn't work after 9pm. Just lit the fireplace.
Very nice stay, minimum amenities but quite enough.
Accommodation basic and eco-friendly. Very peaceful and relaxing. Away from all noise with only nature to experience. Good for body and soul rest.
We had a wonderful time at Pomegranate Cottage. My only criticism would be to provide a few battery lights that have already been charged. The power goes off pretty early and if we didn't bring our own lights, we would be immersed in darkness. The shower heads should also be looked at and beds are fairly old, but one expects that of that old farmhouse. Apart from the above, people are very friendly, the house is clean and tidy and is the ideal getaway from city life with no cellphone signal, electricity, etc.
There are a few things that I just bring to management's attention. 1. The fire extinguisher was serviced 6 years ago and was placed in the wrong place. Rear front door to bracket would be more obtainable. 2. The surface of cement is tough and sticks well. Especially where there is dust. 3. A fly stick will come in handy. I don't believe anyone packs fly killer. 4. Curtain at the shower window is a must please. Furthermore, it is very nice to visit there.
There are no signs to indicate where to turn off, because almost damaging the vehicle to drive through thorn branches. You have beautiful pictures of water and people rowing and those are facilities we paid for, then there is no water. It's unethical and false marketing, you should put a sign to say there is no water in the pond.
Yes, I can recommend it for the scenery, but I wouldn't recommend it for a whole weekend. Battery power is not sufficient. Winter months are very cold to shower. Shower is too big and open with gas geyser that is still struggling to keep up. Don't think it was worth the price. Kitchen door in kitchen fell off. Old curtains. Not much effort and time or money was spent on the place. Luckily we just slept there and were out all day, otherwise I didn't know how the solar panels and gas would keep up.
The place had mouse droppings, it wasn’t clean and we weren’t given the amount of beds that we paid for.
We were booked into a cottage that had no safety for my 11 month old.. had a veranda with no railings and a big fall, she was not able to go outside at all and the flooring was very rough for her knees. When i phoned to ask them how this is safe for my baby they said its because i booked through lekker slaap and not them. For a family with a baby its not ideal. No microwave to heat a quick bottle..no bath.. and the first cottage had a fridge but the battery could not keep it running so was worried everyrhing we had bought with would go bad.. when they moved us to a second cottage with a better battery fridge situation was better and veranda was closed so safer for my active baby.. Gerald was a darling came out when we needed help with our heater.
Vir diegene wat hou van rustigheid en stilte is hierdie verblyf perfek. Die gas yskas gee wel probleme.
What a wonderful experience! Break away from the hustle and bustle of the city with everything you need to enjoy a peaceful family weekend in nature.
A stunning weekend get away. The bird life is wonderful and the sound of nature calls. Nice hikes and a great get away if you want to just relax and rejuvenate or perfect to go with friends for fun filled hikes and getting back to nature.
A wonderful stay and getaway weekend! It was wonderful to be able to stay without power and only the basic needs! The solar power was a big help, but also the gas supply was very nice! It was wonderful to get away from cell phones and be in touch with nature again! We look forward to the next getaway!
Wonderful atmosphere and really happy with service as well as accommodation.
Was really nice. Will recommend it for a weekend away. Perfect to escape from the rush of the city and to switch off as there is no signal.
What a lovely getaway in the mountains! Here you can truly relax and return to the more basic things in life. The accommodation is simple, yet neat, although the cottages inside could do with a coat of paint. Although you don't really notice it when your mind gets caught up in the mountains that surround you! The wine tasting, which is included in the stay, is delicious.
We had a great stay. Relaxing and away from everything and everyone. 100% quality time with loved one. Would've appreciated if we were told which type of car is suitable for the trip to the cottage. Will definitely be back with a suitable car.
Witkruis cottage really has the most beautiful view over the mountains and the silence is fantastic. The cottage was clean and there was always hot water.
After a number of queries regarding swimming and being promised this is possible, it was far from. Both the mountain pool and dam is dingy and not suitable for swimming at all. Our fridge did not work at all. The light in the bedroom did not work. We will not be back.
Silence in the mountains with the most essential accommodation.
The cottage has clearly been set up splendidly and generously some years ago. It has a lovely porch, good layout with a generously sized bed and bathroom. Unfortunately it currently shows clear signs of neglect with little attention to maintenance or care and gives the distinct impression that owners/management have lost interest in the business. Herewith a list of some of the issues: fish moths in pots and pans, kitchen floor was grimy, no plugs in kitchen zinc so one could not wash dishes properly, kitchen plumbing was shoddy, incomplete cutlery, gas heating of water kicked out after 2 minutes, dirty cloths seem to have been used to clean surfaces and left dirt marks on e.g. cupboard doors, solar electricity lights and chords have been badly installed, mattresses have lost their form and we turned them over to get a firmed feel, magazines were old (2011). The most annoying issue, however, was the electricity inverter which had a buzzing ventilator that disturbed the splendid silence twice per minute.
Unfortunately there were a few jackals that spoiled the weekend. The roof leaks in various places in the cottage. On the first night only the bedroom and bathroom had working lights. The curtains in the room fell of many times. The bedroom does not have a door, which makes the room cold and if there is more people it leaves a privacy issue. The bathroom has two uncovered windows, which makes it uncomfortable. On a positive note, the location is exceptional, especially if one wants to climb the mountain tops in the moonlight.
I have already sent a report to Buitenkloof. There was also no ice available here because the gas cooler had not been switched on long enough before our arrival. The freezer did work. Bathroom and shower did not look/feel clean. No curtain. I couldn't take a shower because maybe I didn't understand how to use the gas, but every time I turn on the cold tap to regulate the water, the gas goes off. Struggled a lot and then left. The roof was leaking and water was on my wife's feet, soaking wet, then had to make other plans.
Way overpriced. One of the cottages didn’t have any lights that work or any hot water.
Definitely pay attention to renovation, as well as cleanliness, especially the shower and the overall state of cleanliness is poor. Not at all to recommend for any person.
The kitchen counter was full of dust. The braai had no braai grid. The porch was dirty, we had to carry the chairs to the porch and clean it ourselves. The gas geyser for the bathroom by bedroom only let out cold water.
It was amazing! The natural beauty and location of the accommodation make it definitely worth it!
Enjoyed our time. Place was well and neatly equipped. Will visit again, only for longer.
We enjoyed it very much. It was quiet, far away from everything, beautifully situated between the mountains. I will definitely go there again.
No power to recharge cell phone.
Convenient cottage and you need nothing more. The driveway was difficult driving so I rather parked my car at the bottom of the driveway. No salt and pepper, although it was mentioned in the folder. New linen would be nice. We had a relaxing time.
Enjoyed a wonderful weekend away to recharge. A peaceful, tranquil stay in the wilderness, surrounded by mountains. Stargazing in the still of the night - an awesome experience.
Peaceful. Perfect for a getaway. Isolated from busy city life. Very private, beautiful.
Uncomfortable due to the following reasons: Cobwebs in the cottage which gives the impression that it is not clean. The hot shower water cannot be controlled, water taps are impractical. General maintenance not up to date, water pipes loose, all the lights work.
Accommodation was quite neat. Fortunately we made provision for the necessary things! I just wanted my view that was advertised. A little worried about safety as cottages are so far inside and no signal and there are no control gates. Mountain pool not really for swimming, looked a bit dirty. Otherwise our home was very nice and quiet. The service we received was very good!
We were quite disappointed with our accommodation at Rooipensie. The accommodation was booked for 4, but 2 people shared the queen-size bed while the 2 other guests had to share a sleeper couch in the lounge. There was bedding for the couch. We only got 1 roll of toilet paper for 4 people for 2 nights! There's solar power, but the light went off after 20 minutes after sunset and only 2 candles were provided (which were burned down by the end of the first evening). The geyser just heated some of the time and sometime not at all. There was no hot water the later morning! We had to pour river water in the toilet bowl to flush it and brush our teeth with bottled water. Extremely disappointing experience.
The surroundings are picturesque. We stayed in the Baboons Gift Cottage because we are a family of 5. We were disappointed by 1 bedroom with a double bed and a single bed and sofa bed in a very small living area/kitchen. We had to make the single bed ourselves. The sofa bed's 2 mattresses did not fit, so our little girl had to sleep on the mattress on the floor. There was only 1 duvet and 2 blankets available for our 3 children. The second night the guests next door lent us blankets. Only 4 chairs at the counter where we had to eat and because the freezer only had seating for 3. My boys had to sit on the mattress and eat. It's a beautiful little cottage in a very beautiful setting, but way too small for 5 people, as advertised. It's ideal for only 2 people like the cottage next door (which is exactly the same size). With a mattress on the floor, a sofa bed that we had to move so that everything would fit, there was little room to move. And because it was very cold, it was difficult. Fortunately we were there very little because sports commitments.
Even though I knew there is no electricity, lights and hot water are promised. The lights worked for exactly 20 minutes and then not anymore, even if you plug the red wire in during the day to charge. No extra candles are even provided. One can not even call because there is no cellphone signal and if your cellphone is dead you can't charge it. The people who were there with us only stayed 2 out of the 3 nights en then decided to drive back to Pretoria. Kitchenware and furniture are in a poor condition. Not even a plug for the basin in the bathroom.
They confuse rustic with dirty and poor workmanship, wiring hanging from walls everywhere. It is in no way worthy of your name.
If you miss the peace and quiet of the old farm house then this place is made for you, if you just want to chill on the patio the entire day. The kitchen area can do with a good spring cleaning. The mountain pool is overgrown and the dam has been taken over by the waterblommetjies. The walking trails aren't indicated clearly at the start and is also overgrown.
The tranquility of nature between the mountains is wonderful, but the cottages and the surroundings haven't had any attention in a while. The fridge was out of order, the hot water only works now and then and the sink's tap leaked continuously. The rock pool looks like something out of a horror film and the dam is completely taken over by pondweed and the cano is leaking. You will only be able to take on the walking trail if you have a panga and an axe. The photos in the advertisement is very misleading, because it is not what it looks like now at all. With a little work and attention, the Buitenstekloof Cottages will be a fantastic destination and I will definitely want to go back for a visit.
Everything was lovely in the bush and nice and peaceful, but the Baboon Cottage is definitely not equipped for 4 adults as advertised! There was little water when we were there, so we weren't able to swim.
We expected basic utilities with no electricity. But we received less than that. For example, two can openers, but no peeler. Just saying, get the basics right and people won't mind staying of the grid.
