Our lodge is just 5 km from Prince Albert and offers self-catering cottages and log cabins, nestled into nature to give our guests the real Karoo experience. The cottages and log cabins are well equipped for self-catering and have their own private bathroom, kitchen facilities and living areas.
Bushman Valley is also just 14 km away from the Gamkaskloof "Die Hel" turnoff. In the nature reserve there are several hiking trails and 4x4 routes to enjoy.

Gorgeous camp site, friendly staff, all the amenities one needs - right at the foot of the incredible Swartberg Pass. Great spot! The only thing is the WiFi connection wasn't great, so it isn't ideal if you need to be connected, but hopefully you don't and can just switch off and enjoy the beauty. I'll be back.
The accommodation was tidy with everything you need, lovely swimming pool and air conditioning.
We had such a great time at Bushman Valley! People who love nature will really enjoy it! We were in Charlet 3 and there was everything we needed!
Very nice stay. Everything was clean and tidy. Would recommend earplugs just in case the baboons decide to make noise all night again. Apparently it only happens sometimes, but you never know when. We will definitely be going back again soon.
Very nice. Lovely surroundings. Neat and relaxed.
Bushman Valley is perfectly located if you want to explore Prince Albert and the Swartberg Pass. The campsites are nicely furnished and no. 4 and no. 6 have their own bathrooms which are very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and quickly helped us with alternative accommodation in one of their houses when it started to snow on the mountain and the weather got very cold.
We stayed in the log house that was redone. This is the cleanest, neatest house I have ever stayed in. Als was perfect. A barbecue is all that was missing, but the Weber with charcoal did its job. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone.
We had a nice stay and had a nice walk. It is nice and close to Prince Albert.
Had a great time, friendly and helpful staff. The site is neat and clean. Will book there again anytime.
Very nice. So calm, just what you need to start relaxing.
Very nice stay, friendly welcome.
Great location, close enough to cycle to town or nearby routes.
If you want to get away from it all, visit this place. Use it as a base camp for the Swarberg Pass and other great roads in the area. We will certainly return.
We had a great time. Excellent location!
Nice stay, would just like to have DSTV channels too.
Very nice stay. One switches off after a busy week.
We really enjoyed the campsite. Each stand is creatively different. Reception and facilities were very good.
Great overnight point for Die Hel.
Absolutely beautiful set between mountains and rocks. LekkeBlyplace! A stone's throw from breathtaking Swartberg Pass. Neat, spacious and well appointed cottage, with good furniture and linen. Very friendly staff. An extra shelf in the shower would be good.
Beautiful place in very beautiful scenery. You can watch goats and kids from your porch! Very well equipped and convenient to be able to get wood at the place.
Lovely place, cottage fully offers everything for self-catering. Views are spectacular and the facilities are clean and neat. I did indeed wish I could stay longer - it was a stopover as part of a road trip. WiFi works, but you need to be closer to the office.
The cottage was clean, comfortable and the beds were big and comfortable. The cottage we stayed in has a new deck with pergola above, which was a very useful little spot - a perfect spot to sit and hang out while enjoying the view. Barbeque, swimming and hanging out areas are far enough apart so you don't have to step on strangers' toes.
Perfect break from the everyday. In nature and rest for the soul.
Very beautiful among the mountains. Very close to Prince Albert. Nice houses.
Unfortunately we were booked in at a time when the whole of Prince Albert did not have electricity. This posed a serious issue of not being able to keep the insulin injections cold, and an inability to charge the hearing aids and phones. We do understand that this was due to circumstances beyond the control of the owners of the accommodation. However, the gas supply to run the generator was also used up. A plan B should have been in place for a fridge to use for the insulin. But besides this inconvenience, our stay was pleasant.
We had a really nice stay, were peaceful in nature. There was a storm that knocked out the power for miles and they went out of their way to make things as convenient as possible. The directions were unclear and inaccurate. Fortunately, one of the locals was able to help us.
We had a lovely stay at Bushman Valley. It is a real gem in this lovely Klein Karoo nature reserve. Besides our comfortable accommodation, outdoors there were beautifully built thatch gazebos with shade and a sparkling pool for cooling off in the heat of summer. They also have an area for coffee and cake should you desire that. Thanks for a very pleasant stay.
Enjoyed the stay on camping site 4 ,with the "en suite" facilities. Peaceful and quiet.
See stars.
Peaceful and comfortable accommodation in a beautiful location!
Very nice place to stay with a peaceful atmosphere.
Stay was great and I will recommend the location to anyone.
Peaceful and relaxing.
Had a wonderful stay. Just a pity that the chalets do not have their own braai.
Unbelievably clean throughout. Sparkling pool. Warm showers. Location is on point. Looking forward to the next trip.
Yes, thank you, but the log house needs attention and the water pump that comes on regularly is disturbing.
Our wooden cottage was newly renovated, clean and airy. Well equipped and a very pleasant stay.
Receptionist was not at all friendly and welcoming upon our arrival. Very well equipped and tidy unit. However, there was an Eskom power problem, and it was very cold, after which we realized that the unit is not very well insulated - you can physically feel the draft in the rooms. But we survived, and the beautiful view and surroundings made up for the slight discomfort.
Very nice stay, but as a farm/reserve destination it would help if attention could be paid to the following: Very noisy, a lot of road noise. The workers shout instructions to each other. Cottages should each have their own braai.
We had a wonderful stay! Everything was nice and clean. Would have liked a few more wine glasses there. Staff friendly and helpful.
The staff is very friendly, efficient and hospitable.
It's outside Prince Albert and therefore more quiet and space. I would prefer to stay here again rather than in town.
For an overnight stay, the facilities are great, but there is not much to do in the area. If you're into hiking, you'd need extra days.
It's cold like that in the valley, the sun comes late over the mountains and sets early. Pack warm clothes and blankets. I believe in the summer this campground is a blast. The men's bathroom's gas geyser did not work, but management is working to fix it. Lovely showers, no tubs to bathe children in. Each campsite has its own sink, electricity and a nice canopy with a sharp light. The braai facilities are good. There is not much coolness if you were to look for it in the summer. There are beautiful hiking trails, which are a must see. The routes are well marked, but there was no map available, so one is not sure how far any of the routes you choose are. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely stay there again.
We had a very nice stay. The unit is indeed very cramped, but it has the best location on the farm.
Good location. Staff were respectful and helpful. Space between camp sites was ample. Suggest a spruce up to ablution block and site 2 needs to be levelled up better.
We really enjoyed our stay at Bushman Valley. It's neat and very beautiful.
Loved the beautiful scenery. A bit close to the road so it got noisy sometimes with the passing traffic. Also, be wary of the baboons that come down from the nearby mountains when there is no one about.
The house is very well equipped, with some charming details, but the design is unfortunate—the two bedrooms are open to each other, so you hear every snore, and the main light is above both bedrooms, so you need to go to bed at the same time. Shame, since the cottage has so many nice features.
I underestimated the strength and speed of the wind blowing the gorge. The camper next door couldn't even get his tent up and had to spend the night in his motor vehicle on the seat.
The location is right. The water pressure pump came on every 3 minutes and made a lot of noise. We gave up an evening due to the noise that pierces the silence. The bathrooms are not up to standard at all.
My partner and I were unfortunately bitten by something in the master bedroom that night. The WiFi is unreliable and Netflix was choppy, which was bad for two teenagers.
An apparently unsolvable power problem soured our stay in unit no 3. I think maintenance of the units is lacking. Poor lighting in the living room.
Not enjoying at all? The host did not let us know about the power situation at all. And also had no plan of action to accommodate guests. The garden is in dire need of attention and action towards unity is in urgent need of attention. The braai area is pathetic. The owner really needs to pay more attention and not just leave everything to workers. There is no covered parking for vehicles. We found one battery lantern, which died during the night anyway.
Had very high expectations due to somewhat misleading advertising photos.
Bushman Valley was fantastic. The unit was clean, cool and comfortable. Nice white linen in the rooms. Please visit!
We had a nice stay. The staff was very friendly.
It is a peaceful place to sleep. Will come again, neat and comfortable. WiFi is just weak, but hey, if on vacation, leave the devices and hang out with your friends and family.
Fantastic! Would definitely recommend the place.
Beautiful surroundings and friendly service.
Incredibly special, spent 12 hours in the evening sitting in the Jacuzzi and stargazing with baboons bogguming on ravines.
Our campsite was clean and had a lovely lawn for us to pitch our tent, which made a great change from camping in dust!
Everything was clean and tidy. Everything one needs was there, just a pity that there is no provision for power during load shedding. The service was excellent and the staff were very helpful when you needed them. The carport was a big plus. One can see that they are constantly making improvements. A cover for the jacuzzi would be welcome to keep the bugs out. It's only the smell of the sewage that was a bit bothersome, otherwise it was a very peaceful and pleasant stay.
Sincerely appreciate! What a lovely, cozy place at a very reasonable price! We took full advantage of the outdoor hot tub and enjoyed it! And this while we could take in the beautiful views.
The nature is beautiful there at Bushman Valley. The cottage is sufficient for an overnight stay. It was stage 6 loadshedding so we struggled a bit with power. No generator at resort. But otherwise no complaints.
The staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome.
See stars.
Resort is extremely well located for visiting Prince Albert. Campsites are spacious and far enough from fellow campers to create privacy. Lots of natural vegetation and views of the surrounding hills make you feel as if you are standing in the field. In the summer I would choose the pitches further from the pool/reception to avoid potential noise from swimmers. Pitches have power, braai area, a covered seating area for coolness/rain plus a cold water sink. Bushman Valley definitely see us again.
If you want to relax and rest, this is the place. Silence and natural beauty. Everything needed was there, and clean. Although not advertised, there is a "generator" on standby.
Had a great time. Cute place. Can recommend it.
We were given a friendly greeting on arrival. We also w joyed the fact that hiking trails are laid out and the lovely stone labyrinth and views. one suggestion I would make is to advise hikers that the path on the red trail is quite tricky with a lot of loose stones.
We really enjoyed our stay at Bushman Valley and the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff was remarkable and of a high quality. The environment and location of Bushman Valley was truly what we needed to "connect" with our Creator again. The experience was just amazing. Thank you for the opportunity to experience first-hand the friendliness of Prince Albert's residents.
Food for the soul. Received very hospitably. Nice big unit that is well equipped. Quiet and peaceful and a star-studded sky, especially at night with load shedding.
Very nice place, good location, close to nice restaurants, stars are beautiful in the evening.
Nice quiet environment. Very close to Prince Albert. Very nice area with good facilities.
Amazing self-catering little cottage with all the necessities available. Quiet, in nature and we were able to completely relax and enjoy the scenery. Thank you.
Best ever! Please visit if you like stars and a bright moon.
The reception was very friendly and everything was even better than I expected. The swimming pool is a highlight for sure and also the fire pit and social area.
Very nice. Friendly service and neat ablutions.
Als was nice, small things that need to be worked on a bit: overhead lights a bit too low, wifi cables also need to be hidden a bit, otherwise 100/10.
Neat and clean accommodation. A mirror near one of the electrical plugs will help.
Very spacious camping spots. Beautiful nature. Friendly staff. All the campsites do not have grass. Was a lovely weekend.
Terribly beautiful place, between the mountains. Everything clean and tidy. Did get a bit cold. Had fun walking and exploring and is just beautiful.
We spent the night here on a drive between Rietbron, Prins Albert and Calitzdorp.
Unbelievably beautiful environment.
Very relaxing with a beautiful view.
Overnight here, in cabin number 5. The cabin was clean, with beautiful views over the mountain and rocks. And my doggie was allowed to be there too. Was a freezing cold night, so was very glad re the heating provided. (Door wouldn't lock, so I hope the owners will fix it, was a bit scared sleeping alone with an unlocked door).
Very well received and friendly. In the process of renewal, but it did not bother at all. Cottage was great with plenty of space. Nice visit and braai places and walking paths in the mountain. The baboons are very friendly and did not bother. The next visit will definitely be much longer.
We wanted to experience Prince Albert this time, outside the village, and we were impressed and satisfied. Yes our soul is fed. You feel the vastness and space of the environment. You can walk around, cool off in the water pool against the rocks that are surrounded by the majestic Black Mountains. Friendly Piet and Dries helped us so well! Our cottage number 1 was clean and tidy. Pleasant feeling when you walk in there. Would really like to have the gate closed in the evening, one feels a bit at a loss when everything is so open and you are still the only guests there. Just remember please. to clean the grills every day after use for the men and maybe water the garden more often in that dry earth. A fan in the house, when it is loadshedding please, we got very hot, because the air conditioning had to be turned off during loadshedding, but then there must be please. be a fan that can cool you down otherwise it's very hot. We will definitely visit again and relax!
Well kept and maintained.
This was the ideal place just outside Prince Albert to stay for 4 nights. Beautifully located between the mountains and when you step out of your cottage you immediately feel part of nature. Very nice atmosphere to hang out with a swimming pool and lapa with braai facilities near you. Just a few nice walking routes to do which are clearly indicated with colors on the stones and if you don't get too tired, you should follow the directions on the stones well. Incredible views from above the mountains which I really enjoyed. Because you are part of the mountainous nature here, you just have to look out for the baboons that roam here and that you may come across. We stayed in Cottage 3 which was well appointed but felt the main bedroom was too small to move in and unpack. We had to make ourselves at home in the living area and the other very small room. Four people will struggle to get along for more than one evening. Air conditioner in the room and living area worked well. Because the WiFi reception here is very poor, the TV is also of no use because it only works with WiFi reception which is practically non-existent. There is also no cell phone signal here which can be a bit annoying if you do need it. The ice maker in the kitchenette was a big plus. The kitchen is also equipped with a large fridge. The staff on site were very friendly and a pleasant person to talk to.
Everything was good, but lower room needs a fan in summer.
We enjoyed our one-night stay in cottage 5 with a hot tub on the deck and the amazing sky, view, and mountain. We loved it all.
I had a very nice stay, thank you.
No wood took 6 hours to get tub warm. Need a cover for tub to keep heat in.
Its Winter :-. 1. No proper floor mates. 2. Night one NO heating. 3. Reported on day 2. Techinicans came out BUT without gas, this ment the heating produced was low and did not last. A lady brought a small electric heater. 4. Only hand towl rails, with no bathtowl rails. 5. No TV. 6. No normal tea and no milk. 7. No notification of load shedding times.
I arrived at the establishment just after 6, the office was closed, no after hours number, and had to drive up and down town for someone to help me, finally I got the key in the door, there was no cell phone reception, and there was no wifi password either, nor was the wood delivered as I had arranged. I went back to town for wood, there was no ice in town or wood at stores, then I got right to a restaurant, I then went back to the institution, it was already an hour to look for everything. When I got back to the establishment it was pitch dark, when I lit the fire the braai was broken, I had to run around all night to kill coals, to prevent a fire, so it was a nightmare of an evening. Stove also only worked halfway, it's very clear to me that the manager doesn't feel anything for their guests, was poor,.
Located near the start of the swartberg pass. Close to the town so easy access to everything. Be prepared for no mobile network. a good thing perhaps. Comfortable cottages with everything you need. Great braai facilities and chill area outside.
The area is incredibly beautiful. However, we would have liked more enthusiasm when we asked about: 1. The rockpool, the answer was it is on the road out of Swartberg, I then asked if there were directions, to which it was "no". With that I now ask how should I know how to get out there, after which the reception shrugged his shoulder. 2. The hiking trails, answer was I have to follow the path in the mountain, only to find out that there are different colors on rocks, a waterfall, rock pool etc. 3. MTB routes I was only told to get out of the way and I would see a dirt road that I could follow. I just left it at that. The reception was not keen or helpful at all. The house needs maintenance, with the upper wooden balustrades that will give way at any moment if someone pushes against them too hard. Danger to children. Basic maintenance is lacking: the exterior lights do not work, nor do bathroom lights. A decent pan in the kitchen would be appreciated.
We stayed with 2 children in wooden house no 5. And it is right in the mountain right on the point, the mountains sit so right around you and the tranquility, well I have no words. It's just outside the town and lots of things to do, 2 days is too little. Very nice Bushman Valley.
Accommodation was neat with a nice view. Pool to cool off in was great.
Bushman Valley was organised, clean, welcoming and a beautiful location. We enjoyed our stay and hope to be back. The house is comfortable and the stars at night are breathtaking. Thank you!
Very beautiful place to stay in the mountains.
We expected to get there after dark, but it was easy to communicate with Ebrahim. The place was beautifully decorated. We were just sorry we couldn't stay longer. The water pump did run overnight, so maybe it should be turned off overnight.
Nice location very tidy and bonus that there is only WiFi and no cell phone reception, nature only makes it better.
We camped and really enjoyed it. Green grass helps to get tent pegs in easily and our little girl really enjoyed playing on the grass. Nice canopy for coolness- didn't even need to put up gazebo. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and are tidy. We really enjoyed the hot tub. Very close to Prince Albert. Jacques at reception was very nice and willing to help with anything. We will go again.
As a camper, I feel that the campground lacks attention.
There is an open hot tub that is available to all campers in the open air that you can heat yourself which is very nice under the Karoo's stars that they don't mention. The place looks just like the photos and the service is very personal.
Had to pay the balance of R50. Reception turned it down. The unit was tidy, staff on site to keep it clean.
Air-con, pool, view, clean thatched cosy room, what more does one need.
Fantastic place.
Bushman Valley's location between the mountains and close to Swartberg Pass makes it a perfect spot for a few days of holiday and mountain biking. Enjoyed it, next time we stay longer.
The chalet was very neat and clean, staff friendly. Environment to explore excellent.
Was very nice there, except that the braai was very far and there is no TV in chalet, and the WiFi too weak to watch DStv on laptop or phone, therefore need TV, otherwise it was very nice, will definitely still very much want to go, over and over worth the money.
Outside Prince Albert in the most beautiful natural surroundings and yet close enough to town for something to eat and drink.
Cute place, great service.
What a unique experience! The wooden house is completely separate and private, well furnished and comfortable. The best part: the hot tub. A simple Jacuzzi that you heat yourself with a donkey. Great for rest after a long journey.
Nice peaceful environment and get a farm feeling.
Great place, really enjoyed.
We slept in cottage 5. It was well equipped, clean and tidy. The air conditioning was especially nice. We enjoyed barbecuing under the stars and relaxing in the hot tub. The scenery is breathtaking!
Camping with all the basic facilities in a beautiful setting. Definitely worth a visit.
Overnight there during motorcycle trip. Very nice, clean, neat. Very nice unit to sit outside and barbecue and socialize if the weather permits.
We really enjoyed our stay at Bushman Valley. A stone throw away from Prince Albert. The gorgeous location between the mountains. Will definitely book for longer next time we go!
We had a lovely stay. Facilities are basic, but it was clean. Make sure you make time to hike the trails in the reserve - the views were the highlight of our long-weekend-get-away.
Very well received. Manager on duty was very helpful.
Bushman Valley is very nicely located, beautiful scenery, peaceful!
Nice easy walks with the kids.
The place is more for camping or big groups, big room is shared. Very good for groups or motorcyclists going to ride Swartberg Pass or going to Die Hel. Was still a nice overnight stay.
Awesome location in the Klein Karoo. Great wooden cottage in the bush. Kids also loved the woodfire jacuzzi. Great that the room has a aircon.
Can't add much
Reception was excellent. Friendly and helpful. Immediately felt at home. Beautiful surroundings between the heads and mountains with a beautiful view. Swartberg Pass is a must see and see again.
Beautiful setting, attractive chalet, comprehensive kitchen, good shower, tasteful interior decoration. Only negatives were mattresses approaching end of life and broken railing on verandah. We would heartily recommend Bushman Valley, and certainly will go back!
We stayed overnight in a secluded and very private two-story log cabin with a large porch and a fire-heated hot tub on a separate outdoor deck. We did not heat the water in the bath, as the sun had already baked it lukewarm. It was lovely to sit outside in the nature of the valley and soak after a hot day. We were treated to a breathtaking sunset that evening. What we missed was a microwave oven to heat up our takeaway. The hot water tap in the shower also struggled because the water could not be turned on gradually. Bushman Valley has recently been taken over by a new owner who is in the process of renovating the entire resort and hopefully sorting out the kinks. We hope to go back for a longer visit in the future so we can try out the trails. Bushman Valley can truly be recommended.
Covid leaves its scars and one can see that maintenance on buildings and the grounds may need some attention, but still the cottage is well furnished and neat and clean. Staff are friendly and try their best to make guests feel welcome and help with any queries/requests.
Very beautiful scenery. Walking path of 4 hours is beautiful, but only for fit and experienced walkers. Peaceful and relaxing.
Not enough chairs, cutlery and glasses.
Accommodation was shabby and the house and bathroom a bit dusty. However, the scenery makes up for it.
Accommodation was below standard
