99 guests' feedbackThe game drives, quad bike tours and horse rides were superbly done with very professional, informative guides. We enjoyed every day at the resort and the units were beautifully cleaned each morning.
What a lovely woodland experience! From early morning game drives to late night visits under the stars.
Everything was very good. The only thing that could be better would be to be able to see the lions. Two of the wardens were helpful and friendly. The one who did the 'night drive' could have talked a bit more and given information.
We had a wonderful time relaxing in the forest. Nice for a family with small children.
Fantastic getaway.
We had a wonderful stay at Bushtime at Mabula. The units are clean and well-equipped with everything you need. There's an abundance of wildlife to see, with awesome game drives available. Lots of kids' entertainment too. We'll definitely be back.
Very nice unit on the mountain with its own path. Water hole in front with many animals that come to drink every day. Had a nice day at Modjadji Restaurant. Main restaurant is incredibly expensive.
Nice house, beautiful scenery, fantastic game drive, friendly and efficient staff.
We as a family had a very nice stay.
Too bad the restaurant closes at 7 and there was no place to eat after 7. I also had to pay dearly for WiFi to work sometimes, but it didn't work either.
Will definitely go again. Enjoyed it a lot.
A great place to relax and unwind.
The self-catering accommodation is well equipped, comfortable beds, sufficient hot water, and clean. The reception staff were helpful. However, we had difficulty contacting someone at the accommodation after hours with a problem and had to call reception at the lodge. The game drives are very enjoyable. The available a la carte restaurant is unfortunately not open on Fridays/Friday evenings - we wanted to have something to eat after a game drive. The alternative buffet meal at the lodge is not really worth it.
We enjoyed it. Well equipped units.
Stay was very nice. I just would have liked to be closer to my house. I had to carry a lot of bags far.
It was an enjoyable time, in a lovely area; it was peaceful and quiet.
Great accommodation for spending time away in the bush. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Will go back again.
Had an amazing time, just too short. Will be back with family soon.
We really enjoyed the time at BushTime at Mabula! The staff at BushTime at Mabula are friendly, professional and very helpful. The unit is very nice, with a beautiful view over the Bosveld. The free credits we were able to use for game drives was a pleasant surprise and the guides are very knowledgeable. I can't wait to return!
It was a wonderful stay, the units are absolutely beautiful and the wild life was amazing.
Bos, age 5, visiting with family. Everything works. Was nice.
Totally relaxed holiday, set in nature, friendly staff and value for money.
The splendor of nature surrounds you in the comfort of luxury.
It was very nice. We will go again for sure.
Comfortable stay. Unit is serviced, staff friendly. Was in no. 27. Conveniently near swimming pool.
Close to central Gauteng, but in the bush feels far from everything.
The staff are friendly. And the game viewing is great. Over a weekend booking we only got 1 game drive which wasn't sufficient.
It was an awesome experience. Very refreshing and it was a perfect environment to unwind.
It was a plus for us that game drives and other activities were included.
Very nice stay. Nice and neat. Heated pool was bitterly cold and unfortunately no longer a fireplace in units, but otherwise great.
Clean sky, stars, forests and animals are always good for the soul.
Mabula definitely ranks among the best of a bushveld holiday. It has been more than ten years since we last visited Mabula, but we were not disappointed. A good experience and very relaxing. Maybe it's because the fact that we have been there before, but we noticed a few areas where improvement was needed: 1. The bath room facilities are a major weakness. Besides the bath and shower being hopelessly too small and inadequate for any family, they are also neglected. The towel rail was broken loose and the same for the hook behind the door. 2. The game drives were amazing, but we remember Mabula handing out blankets, especially for night drives - it was very cold and not pleasant when you drive in the wind for two hours. 3. The restaurant's food is delicious, but service is not so good. Breakfast was all okay, but for dinner we literally waited for our waiter for 30 minutes and had already finished eating before we got the bill - with a buffet restaurant you expect much better service. 4. Network and signal was a massive problem due to load shedding When the power comes back on, MTN signal doesn't come back for hours afterwards. This is known to BushTime and they said Vodacom is better - a bit late when you are already there to do something about it and there is no free WiFi, you have to pay for WiFi at the hotel.
Our unit was very conveniently located, a short walk from the pool and play area, but far enough to experience the silence of the forest. All the staff at BushTime are very friendly and helpful.
Very nice. Would like to check in at 2pm instead of 3pm.
We enjoyed it very much. Everything was neat and clean and comfortable. Our time was just too short!
It was a lovely weekend. Lots of rest.
In general, everything was perfect. I wish I could have another stay at BushTime at Mabula with my friends.
The place was great, and affordable, with good roads and signage. We did get lost and we enjoyed the activities offered especially the Lion Safari game drive. The staff was friendly and we had our own privacy.
The house is well equipped, comfortable, big and the private pool is a win. Service was excellent and the complimentary game drive and kids activities were great.
Everyone goes out of their way to make it pleasant for you. Even the safaris were perfect!
Unbelievably nice visit in the forest. Perfect unit with everything you need and a breathtaking view from Sunset Hill. Game drives and plenty of activities. We will definitely be back again! Thank you.
Mabula is a location that delivers on a great bush experience and interesting game viewing.
The place is so good and the people are so friendly, it was a good adventure.
Close to Jo'burg and Pretoria. Accommodation far enough apart from each other not to carry noise. Check-in, access to extras, game drives etc. well handled at the reception. Small shop well stocked for the incidentals.
I stay in a lot of bush accommodation. I had no problems and enjoyed it but it did not excite me, it was OK. I don't think I would go back if I had the choice of a bush holiday. The restaurant was closed on the night we planned to eat out which messed us around and we weren't informed. There was a conference. I don't know why that affects the set up it doesn't in other establishments. When we did eat in the restaurant the waitress had a terrible attitude, don't know why. The game rangers, especially Chantelle were fantastic. But I think self-drive should be offered as well. I think they need to do something about the baboon problem.
Good getaway for wildlife viewing and ample recreational facilities.
The rain was a problem and seeing that we could not do game drives ourselves it was difficult with children in an open vehicle while it was raining. Sitting in the dark one night without power. They did drive to our reception later, sent us extra lights. We were also booked the one night, was such a horrible experience and even more so their emergency number not working.
Good value for money! We were in the self-catering units. Very well equipped and private. Kids loved the facilities and the main lodge and spa is a must. Saw so many animals and had some special visitors (animals).
Was very nice.
We had a lovely weekend with friendly staff, a clean and well equipped unit. Can recommend it for sure.
We would recommend Bushtime at Mabula to anyone! Everyone made us feel so welcome, all the facilities are neat, it's a great getaway for a group of friends and family. All the staff went out of their way to make the experience the best.
I don't know where one will be able to get more nature, knowledge, animal viewing, and service than at Mabula. It's an experience.
Accomodation was very neat and clean. Game drive was awesome and beautiful resort.
Clean, neat and quiet.
We had a great time. The location, professional staff and clean facilities exceeded my expectations.
Here you can recharge in a beautiful setting, surrounded by nature with animals on your doorstep.
Very good to rejuvenate. Great views and well-appointed units. No one's fault, but game drives are fully booked, no social distancing. Great location, just expensive, as you pay per chalet and not per person, we required two rooms for two people. Cost the equivalent for self-catering as it would for an up-market lodge including meals.
We are regular guests at Mabula Bushtime, and enjoy it very much. There is a lot for the kids to do, staff are friendly, the units could do with more upgrading, some of the kitchen cupboards were loose, and one drawer struggled to open. Really enjoyed our game drive, saw so many animals - up to an aardwolf. Our guide put in a lot of effort. Will definitely visit again!
Mabula is just the best place to visit with smaller kids.
The resort is ideal for a quiet break away from the city and the surroundings give you a true bushveld experience.
Was 'n fantastiese naweek weg!
See stars.
It was a great time out, kitchen had everything we needed. Bed so comfortable. Only down side was the closed fireplace.
House well equipped, clean and tidy. Room closets (old and doesn't match other decor) and shower are poor compared to rest of the house (weak shower head and glass partition is old and ugly). It needs replacing, rest of the house is beautifully new. Please set inform guests that game drives must be booked in advance. That's our main reason why we went to Mabula is for the very good game drives. Big disappointment when we checked in and heard there was no room for us (2 people). This forms part of the accommodation's accommodation costs. After a lot of nice talking, they made room for us. Please inform guests. in advance that they should book the game drive about a week in advance. One game drive per weekend is also too little. It had always been 2 game drives per weekend in the past. At least we could find one. Very nice, comfortable and clean. Well rested. But the cost does not justify the standard. Slightly overpriced. We travel a lot and can therefore compare. Beautiful reserve and comfortable. Very expensive.
Took 2 Americans for bush experience. Unity is very far from activities. Night drive extremely disappointing. No elephants, lions or leopards seen. Buffaloes squeak small. Menu in restaurant poor. Unit as well as game drive were very expensive and not value for money at all. Had to pay everything in advance.
During this period in SA with the Corona virus epidemic, it was nice to be able to stretch out at such a clean, tidy and peaceful place, even if it was only for 2 days to recharge one's battery. Will definitely stay for longer next time. Our 4-year-old boy really enjoyed his warthog friends who came round every morning as well as the pretty birds and cute squirrels. The relaxation area with the jumping pillow, swimming pool and play area was very neat and clean and it was nice to spend some time there too.
Will go again, better than other lodges, clean, tidy and everything works. Outstanding.
Everything from the reception had been a pleasure. Awesome place and lots to do for kids.
My family had an absolutely lovely time. Staff friendly from the reception to the daily cleaning staff and the staff and the entertainment area. Something to do for every one. Beautiful bush experience with birds, monkeys, warthogs and many more seen roaming free on the resort. Definitely a place I will go back to.
We had a great time and rested in nature.
Clean and well kept amenities.
Good value for money, lots of activities for small children, friendly service, lots of animals and birds
The units are far enough apart so that no one moves into each other's space. There was also a pool close enough for the kids to use without driving up and down.
We had a lovely 2 night stay at BushTime. The staff is very helpful and gives great service. There is various kids entertainment available which our two enjoyed a lot. The different swimming pools were a welcome refreshment and made the family holiday even better. The game drive was informative and we spotted a lot of game close by. Only small let down was the buffet dinner, which we didn't enjoy (and was pricey). Would certainly go back.
Chalets very neat, bathrooms a bit small. We saw a lot of animals, more than anywhere else. Conservationists are fantastic on the game drives. Badgers and squirrels came to say hello at the chalet every morning, and on day 1 a rockhopper invited himself into the chalet. Only the elephants were a little shy. Swimming pools are very comfortable and clean.
On arrival we had to pay another R250 conservation fee. We were not allowed to go on a game drive by ourselves. If I have known this I would not have booked with this resort.
The specific unit (no. 6 Shareblock) has no view of the woodland. It completely took away the forest experience we were expecting. Certainly not the best choice of units in this Big 5 reserve and certainly not worth the money. Restaurant is expensive for average dishes and we waited more than an hour for our food. Weak if you sit there with small children. The resort as a whole is very neat and well maintained and load shedding was not a problem with the generators on site.
What a disillusionment! Chalet was definitely not a 4 star as I understood from advertisements. Nowhere on the website does it say that no private rides are allowed. You have to make use of Mabula's rides at great cost, and you also don't necessarily get a place on rides due to a lack of vehicles. We have a disabled child and wanted to ride alone because our child disturbs other people, and we could not be accommodated. One of only 2 trips we were able to experience the vehicle seats were battered and the driver made no effort to stop at all wildlife. He only stopped at what he wanted to photograph himself. Out of the 5 days we were at Mabula we were able to go on only 2 rides. Everything a person wants to do at Mabula costs extra and must be booked. The supermarket's times on the door are also wrong. Timings are until 6pm, and we were turned away at 5pm. Curiowinkel was also then at times it was supposed to be open. Biggest disappointing vacation ever!
After a visit to one of the activities outside Mabula we took a wrong turn, the dirt road has no sign on it saying no access. After about an hour of getting lost and trying to get back to our camp, a guide with guests happened to drive up, we were relieved and could ask for directions but we were dumbfounded by the guide's behavior. Without greeting us or asking any questions, we were summarily kicked out like naughty children and threatened that our vehicle would be taken and more. This with 2 small children in the car. All we wanted to know was how to get back to our camp. It was such a shock we packed our bags and checked out. Shockingly pathetic.
Poor booking system and management. As a family with small children, we looked at all the options in Mabula and decided to book in the Modjadji camp, specifically because it offers the open plains and is close to all the children's activities and entertainment. To our great surprise we were moved to Sunset Hill, up on the mountain and not at all child friendly. Poor style and service, we are done in, because if you had contacted us and informed us of the move we would not have continued with the booking. No management member offers any explanation or apology. Additionally, the refrigerator in unit 56 does not work. Pathetic service and not worth the money at all, on the contrary you should refund me. My mistake was not reading the reviews, it's clear this isn't the first time you've screwed up bookings.
Mabula pleasantly surprised me with friendly staff, clean and comfortable unit and beautiful views.
See stars.
Mabula is a fantastic place, has been there twice and will go there again. Location, accommodation and activities amazing!
Extremely disappointing! We were informed that our booking had to be changed from a 10 sleeper house and 2 x 6 sleeper houses which was intended for a 30th birthday party for 20 people with children, just 2 days before arrival. The reasons provided were that the owners had now paid the ''levy'' and wanted to use the unit we had booked, despite our payment already being made. As an alternative, we were given 4 x separate 6 sleeper units, which is also very deceiving as they do not specify that there are only 2 bedrooms and 2 single couches available - not ideal for couples and young children, not to mention the units were far apart from each other which meant that in order for the group to be together we had to get in our vehicles and drive to a unit or the entertainment area which defeated the whole idea of having a birthday party with a group of friends. In addition, 2 of the units did not have water for the entire weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). We had no electricity for most of the weekend as well. On the Saturday afternoon, when we inquired about the game drive which we had booked for 20 people, we were informed that there was no booking on their system despite the booking being made in writing, weeks in advance as per the lodge's instruction. Fortunately a plan was made and the game drive happened. The buffet food on the Sunday was also very average and limited variety especially at R 205 p.p. Overall, not a great experience as we had planned this weekend away since January 2019 and I am sure that we will find far more suitable lodges with better treatment and service as well as value for money going forward.
We can highly recommend Bush Time at Mabula. The staff was courteous and friendly and the accommodation was very neat and clean. The game driver (Liam) took every effort to find the big five (found four) and was very informative. Our overall experience was just exceptional and great. This place is a real gem.
Mabula Self-catering is a good value option for being in the bush. Great views, peaceful location and access to game drives and the main lodge if and when needed.
Beautiful unit overlooking the forest. Don't realize there are other guests staying next door. The scenery is beautiful and activities abound.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Mabula. Ryan and Clara made our stay exceptional we will definitely be back to enjoy the stay again. Thank you to everyone who made it just stunning I'd recommend all to go and experience it.
Will definitely visit again.
I find it difficult to say that I enjoyed my experience at BushTime. I have mixed feelings about it. We saw beautiful animals and the amenities are really beautiful. But for two nights in a row there were people in different units who played music. This ruined the bushveld experience my family and I had come for. We decided on a bushveld getaway to escape the noise of the city. The noise was reported to management, but it seems that there aren't clear rules regarding music at this establishment, so I don't feel that management handled this properly. Therefor I'll always remember our stay at BushTime negatively. If I wanted to experience noisy neighbours, I would've stayed in the city.
Beautiful bushveld, good value option. Game drives just a bit routine. I know the route off the top of my head, always the same.
Mabula was peaceful and quiet, exactly what we were looking for. Mabula's lodges are well equipped but could do with a bit of a facelift. The straw cushions and throws smelled a bit stuffy, and we couldn't open the windows either because of the monkeys.
Mabula got my dates and chalet number wrong. The game drive is too late and too long in the winter time. The game warden made an error of judgment when he ended up in the path of the giant elephant with us as guests despite being warned by a person in another vehicle. Mabula is not an option for me for relaxation.
BushTime at Mabula will not go out of their way to accommodate you. They advertise game drives for the children, get them excited to find out there is only 1 vehicle that can take 9 children on the game drive between 3 lodges. The fireplaces inside the unit are closed, so you cannot use them. Air conditioning in the rooms was noisy. Windows and kitchen cabinets are dirty. Staff who come to replace towels just walk in without knocking. The units are not at all private and in the woods as they appear on the website. There is only 1 geyser for 8 people, so we didn't have enough hot water most of the time. We have certainly had much better service and facilities at other lodges at a fraction of the price.
Restaurant never has space available although you are treated with a discount card. If you find a place, there is basically nothing to choose from, because the pots are empty. Hot pool is only available until 16:00 and other activities mostly only during the week.
