Very nice indeed! Very peaceful atmosphere.
Fantasies! Friendly helpful service.
Roxy was a great host, so relaxing for all. We do plan on returning. Thank you. Michael and Veronica.
We had a nice stay, but would appreciate curtains in the bathroom, more than 1 teaspoon and 2 coffee mugs, as well as cleaning supplies. I really don't want to use my shower soap to wash dishes. Feel the cost per night does not justify what we experienced. Microwave does not work. Shower water does not drain. Bath is rusted and stained. Entrance gate does not work properly and was left open every night. Place is a bit neglected.
Highly disappointed in the fact that when we arrived there was no water to take a shower and get ready. I especially left home early to get ready at the venue. The next morning when we woke up, can you believe no water to shower again and the TV did not connect to any channels. We left the guesthouse at 7am due to this. What a waste of money and time.
We understand we booked at the last minute. But they were not at all prepared for our arrival. No toilet paper, no toilet spray, no hand soap or any shower gel. No shower mat. Shower head was broken and sprayed over the side over the shower glass wall. Kitchen utensils were very few - 1 teaspoon, no dessert spoon, no bread knife. Didn't they inform us that loadshedding would start at 20h00 and that they would then have no water either. Water never arrived again because the pump, and when they got it right the next morning, the water tank was empty too. WiFi was not available at first, the router was in another cottage, and then later the reception was very poor.
Very nice place to stay will go back there anytime.
Nice big open garden area and pool to cool off in. Room more than big enough with necessary amenities.
As a self-catering accommodation, you would expect there to be a minimum in the kitchen to self-cater. There was one coffee mug and 2 tea cups. There was only a very small pot, I had to ask for a frying pan which I was provided on request. There was no chopping board or sharp knife for cutting. We were not informed that they have no running water during loadshedding would have been nice to know as the toilets did not work during load shedding. Although all surfaces were clean and the linen was fresh, the apartment had cobwebs making you think it's not cleaned regularly. Otherwise, it's peaceful and the hosts were very accommodating letting our friends check in early the next morning.
2 out of the 4 mornings no water, alarms ringing all night. We confirmed ahead of time that we were taking 2 teenagers with us and there was only one extra double bed mattress on the floor in the living room, no beds for children even though it is advertised as a family cottage. Not an easily accessible location if you need to move back and forth from Paarl. Difficult to reach the gate first time, not clear signs.
Facility not up to date for the price range.
Alarm went off the whole evening and had to open for workers the gate all the time. So disappointed and had to spend more money so that 8 adults had each their own privacy and not very clean with a smell that the units were closed for months.
Amazing time with the family.
Thank you for being so accommodating. Our family had a lovely time.
A beautiful place among the trees. We had a great time and rested. We were kindly received by Anastasia and her beautiful dogs. The cottage is well equipped with wood for braai or for the fireplace in the cottage. Every day we could walk far between the olive trees and vineyard. The Lazy Boy in front of the TV (Netflix) on a rainy night awaits a winner.
I was just upset because I didn't buy the groceries on the way, because it's actually a long way in and out to the farm. But otherwise, I would go again.
Detractors - TV did not work, wasn't a big issue since we didn't come there to watch TV. Wi-Fi reception was poor to non existent. Positives - Beautiful environment, very quiet and peaceful. Grounds were well kept.
The fridge was broken, it did not work and there were no shelves in it. The entry gate does not work when there is a power outage, so you have to go through the main farm access road which is a problem but the great problem is that if you are out or want to go out, and there is a power outage, you can't. The day we left we let the owner know we wanted to leave at 6am. The power was out and the gate was not working. In the end we had to lift the gate out of its tracks and open it so we could leave and then put it back. The owner didn't make any effort to accommodate us, when she had been advised the day before and then loadshedding schedule was known. There was a bedside lamp, just one, it was ok. But there were no power points available as they were all taken up by the security system and there were wanring not to unplug them. We could have stayed in a nice place in Franschhoek for the same price. But all the owner could say when I told her the review on the website would not be good, is that she hoped we enjoyed the discount. I don't think it's much to ask that the gate works, a fridge in self-catering works and a bedside lamp has a power point. And if they want to offer a discount, well that's fine. I would have rather paid more for a facility that actually worked! Needless to say we will not go back.
The Kleinvallei family cottage was a large 1 bedroom cottage where really young kids can be accommodated if still in camp cots. There was no hot water upon arrival but this resolved the following evening. Also the braais that were given had holes in it but we still managed to braai. No black bags (rubbish from previous guests were left behind in the outside dustbin) and only 1 toilet roll was provided (but clean towels and soaps were provided) so this is a fully self-catering unit. The alarm went off by mistake but no armed response showed up but we felt reasonably safe in any case as the location was very isolated.
One night is not enough in Calais Wine Estate. A perfect getaway. The people are very friendly.
A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of town.
The views are breathtaking. Very quiet and peaceful. The house was equipped with everything we needed. Very clean and cosy. My husband and 5 year old son loved it. The braai pit made his stay and little guy was running around the whole farm. The indoor fire place kept us nice and warm on the stormy 26th December. We didn't see any hammocks as seen in the pictures and the pool was out of use. Overall we had an amazing time at Calais for Christmas. We did not want to leave at all. A big thank you to Reuben for assisting us with directions and the dogs on the farm were really cute.
The chalet was neat, clean and wonderfully spacious. The portable grill is small, but no longer needed. Melt was very hospitable and considerate. The dogs are cute, especially Bakkies. Suggestion would be to leave white and red wine from the estate with prices in chalet, so that the person who wanted to taste the wine could buy a bottle or two. And maybe a price list of other wines.
The 3 cottages that we rented, were very well equipped and neat.
Not much to do at the accommodation but I wasn't able to explore properly. Looks like there are some nearby mountains to explore and a large dam.
Accommodation was comfortable and well equipped, although not 100% clean. The farm manager was extremely helpful and received us kindly after midnight. The advertisement shows a beautiful wine estate and the estate's wines are advertised in the cottages, but the office is closed and the numbers on the gate are never answered. We had access only around the cottages, as there are fences and gates everywhere. Lookout over dam was blocked off and we couldn't get to it. Even checking out was an annoyance as we had to call the number several times before the gates were finally opened for us to hand in the keys and remote control.
Fridge was ineffective because the icebox was frozen, couldn't even get the ice cubes out. The braai was probably the cheapest one on the market, super small. The mini oven doesn't word, just the hot plates.
More of a forest getaway. There was no reception and no barbecue. No covered porch. You have an old dirty oven and that's it. Service is a 1/10 and the dogs fill the farm.
Calais' stay was very comfortable and we had a great time relaxing. The gardens are beautiful and if you are a dog lover you will enjoy it as much as we do. Many dogs who come to say hello and visit. They were not troublesome.
Sien sterre.
Tranquil scenic accommodation, enjoyed it very much. House is very neat, will stay there again.
It was a wonderful experience and could not have been different with the staff's friendliness. They went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Nature is beautiful. Dirt road a bit bumpy for a sedan. Accommodation is value for money and close to Paarl for restaurants and shops.
It was a lovely place, the only thing we had hoped for was a bed for all four of us. There was a massive king size bed and a sleeper couch.
The road from gate to residence quite poor and far and can appear unsafe late at night.
It was a very cold weekend in Paarl. Rain and snow. The bedding was not adequate for the cold weather. The teenagers slept on a kick-out bed and only thin blankets were available. The kitchen needs more kitchenware. Otherwise very nice. Employees are very helpful and friendly.
Nice, relaxed and quiet location. No entertainment. The house was very clean and all equipment was available. We even had a washing machine. The strict security made us have to stay at the location (self catering) for dinner. We did not feel comfortable being outside after 22:00 with the 2 big dogs walking around for security purposes.
As a result of the water restrictions in Paarl the farm was a bit arid, but the owners aren't in control of the weather, otherwise no complaints, beautiful place, had a great time.
Neat, clean and everything works. Melt was very helpful. The unit is marketed as a 4-sleeper, but 2 has to sleep in the lounge on fold down couches. The one especially felt more like a business class seat on a plane that doesn't fold down properly, quite uncomfortable for an adult. Don't know why they can't just replace it with a decent sleeper couch.
Cute houses with good quality equipment. Stayed in family unit. Crackware is incomplete and sparse. Wine glasses too few for such a cute wine farm. The kitchen was not very clean - oven and baking trays need a decent cleaning. Wall plugs shorted out. The security gate could not close at all. The bed in the living room is too small for 2 teenage boys. Otherwise it is a place of tranquility and beautiful garden and olive trees.
Worth it, beautiful surroundings.
