Additionally, the Zen room comprises a bar fridge, microwave, and tea- and coffee- making facilities, and the Orgone Room comprises a fully equipped kitchen.
Entertainment for families and groups in the form of drumming, jewellery making, balancing stones, charcoal drawings and painting are available on request.
This landscape is periodically plagued by drought and scorching sunshine yet it has been astonishingly blessed with some of the most dramatic displays of natural beauty. Nowhere is this more visible than in Namaqualand, one of the six floral kingdoms of the world. In spring, the plains burst into flower creating a breathtaking carpet of brilliant colour. The Akkerdam Nature reserve consist mostly of the Hantam Mountain. Guests can explore the rustic area by one of the various hiking trails that the area offers. The 2 km, hour long, Kareeboom route was designed with senior citizens in mind and takes guests along the Hantam Mountain. The Sterboom route takes guests along the easterly side of the Hantam Mountain and up to the Plato. This route takes approximately 6 to 7 hours to complete. For the avid bird watchers the Kareedam serves as an oasis for the migrating birds. Birdwatchers can expect up to 65 different bird species at this reserve.

It was nice, after the long drive we had it was a nice break and a fantastic place to relax.
Very central and safe. Wi-Fi never worked. Aircon not working. Stove plates very slow. Other than this the place was great.

It's loaded with character, owners are warm and friendly and somehow you just feel relaxed in the Magic Garden, in a deep chair in the lounge area with dogs vying for your attention.

We had a great time and really have no complaints. The host and wife were very friendly and always made sure that everything was in order and that everyone was happy. Everything is within walking distance if you want to stretch your legs and the restaurants like the Blou Nartjie are better than anything here in Hermanus.

Something different, bohemian and magnificent! Shower outdoors under an old chef's bowl with fairy lights. Deep, warm colors. Barefoot hospitality. One word: delicious.
Wow! If you are the artistic type then this is your type of place. Henri and Sonja are one word: awesome! I will definitely visit them again. Big plus is that they are animal-friendly and their waffles made me feel just as welcome and at home.

The accommodation was what we needed for a carefree visit to the world of flowers. We were well received and the host and wife went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant experience.
People went out of their way to house my car for 10 days. They also dropped me off early in the morning where I needed to be.

After a long day on the road, we couldn't ask for a better homecoming. Hospitality to dream of. Freshly baked bread and jam served in the garden was a winner. There is so much to look at and it's great to see how Sonja made her dream come true. The garden is an experience and everyone who arrives there hangs out like old friends.
Before I tell more about our time in Calvinia, I must first tell a little about myself. I am very conservative. I stay within the boundaries of what the vast majority of humanity sees as normal. I like all that is familiar and don't like to try anything that looks terribly alien. I once heard from someone that I should loosen my hair. At the time I didn't know what it meant, because my hair was hanging loose on my shoulders that very day, but I was later taught that it meant something along the lines of, to relax, to live less by the book. When planning our trip through the North of South Africa, we wanted to visit places that would really leave a memory of the unknown and that's why we decided on Magic Garden as our overnight home in Calvinia. Here we experienced a world without any borders. Here every form of life, faith, principles and preferences are captured on less than one hectare of land. No one judges here and the hospitality with which one is received is absolutely priceless. We were received by Sonja and Henry (owners) like long lost family and spoiled with the most delicious nachos made by Sonja and chocolate brownies with ice cream served by Henry. This was one incredible experience and for sure a place to return to one day. I encourage anyone who just wants to let their hair down and start living life to drive here. You will receive more than just a good night's rest, but also memories that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Calvinia Magic Garden is very central and within walking distance to restaurants/shops. It's bohemian, colorful, and different from your everyday guesthouse, but still comfortable and relaxing. Interest around every corner.
Beautiful with artwork lights between the plants and around every corner a new focal point. Lots of antiques repurposed for decor.

Calvinia Magic Garden is run by artists, Sonja and her partner. It's something completely different from the usual boring stay on a trip. It refreshes your soul and offers so many unexpected surprises as it also contains a beautiful collection of antiques that are artfully and tastefully displayed in the rooms. Sonja also runs the town's bakery and the smell of fresh baked goods makes you hungry. The room we stayed in was spacious, tastefully furnished and fully equipped for self-catering. We were welcomed and really enjoyed our stay. I would recommend Calvinia Magic Garden without hesitation. Real value for money.
Beautiful place to overnight, nice and central in town. Restaurants and Spar just around the corner. Every room has something special.
Sonja's reception was spontaneous and warm and immediately with a mischief. Although the booking was for overnight only, the atmosphere was better than I would get in any five star. Calvinia Magical Gardens is wonderfully bohemian and warm.
