We had a wonderful stay. The chalet was very comfortable and homely furnished. Carmel Villa is centrally located and the town within walking distance. We were spoiled with cereal, milk, bottled water, cookies and fudge every day. This sets Carmel Villa apart from many other accommodations we have been to and makes you feel truly special. The electric blankets on the beds ensured that we could climb into a cozy warm, comfortable bed, and sleep like stones with the warm bedding. The breakfast was one of the tastiest I have ever eaten. The Victorian decor and general theme, appropriate crockery and cutlery in which the breakfast was served, make one feel royal. Summary: we stayed licks.

It's a particularly beautiful house. My room was nice and warm and it's a good place to spend the night. I really appreciated the company and advice on the road from the owners. The breakfast was a bonus and very tasty!

Loved our overnight stop in Calvinia. We stayed in Chalet 2 which is a 2 bedroom unit. We were 2 couples. Had everything we needed. Clean, quiet and cosy. Temperatures dropped to -1° overnight, so we were glad our host had invited us to use the hot blankets on the bed. Slept so well. They have a cute braai area with small splash pool - would enjoy that space in hot weather.

Needs some maintenance work as kitchen floor looks like it got wet. Unit needs a "makeover".
There was load shedding, and I didn't know the institution had a generator. I didn't even try using electricity. I wish I had tried to turn on my hair dryer, then I would have been pleasantly surprised. I just spent the day with "flat" hair. We were able to check in a little earlier which helped a lot.

Lovely stay, would definitely recommend that they drywall the toilet in the front room. We did not enjoy having the toilet in the main room and there was no shower, only a bath, and water restrictions. Would stay in the other rooms but not the front one again.
We reported that the TV wasn't working-only got a reply several hours later, when loadshedding was about to start. The person in charge thought this was hilarious. There were no coathangers in the wardrobes, there was no cloth to clean up spills, there were very few glasses- it was not worth what we paid for, compared to other accommodation we had stayed in. Really disappointing.
It's our second time staying there. Nice fudge on the bedside table, biscuits, coffee and breakfast porridge, for the next morning. Drinking water in the fridge. Clean, neat and beautiful.

This is a house with an intriquing history, situated right on the doorstep of Calvinia's surprisingly well-preserved historic centre, and a bare two minutes' walk from a fab restaurant, Die Blau Nartjie.
Carmel Villa is a particularly beautiful building with a very interesting history, and Gezina and Marcel were extremely friendly and hospitable. We had a great stay, and would definitely recommend the breakfast - delicious!

Our chalet had a TV with DStv available. The living area was not conducive to watching TV or socialising as the area was small and only kitchen chairs to relax on. Beds very comfortable with good quality linen and electric blankets for the chilly night. The breakfast is highly recommended. My travelling companion accidentally left a jacket behind. Marcel/Gezina went the extra mile by arranging that the jacket be brought to Cape Town for my friend to collect. That care and thoughtfulness is much appreciated.

We found this to be a pleasant surprise! We were welcomed warmly by our hosts (owners) of this beautiful Victorian style house, both following the necessary protocols needed upon arrival! We had a good sense of security during our stay - again our hosts were able to advise us as how to be security conscious and our trusty old Prado had safe parking. Carmel Villa has a beautiful ambiance with the original windows and doors with colored red and blue glass. Carmel Villa "tells" of the social history of Calvinia around the turn of the 19h00's! It was really wonderful to absorb and understand the history of old Calvinia!

I would have a hard time choosing another place to stay. The standard is set high with a clean room full of character, and crisp bedding that includes an electric blanket, blissful. Don't miss the creamy cheese scrambled eggs for breakfast. just ask it for dinner too, and in between. The WiFi is really the only frustration, especially since I was on a business trip.

Beautiful, historic home that has been recently renovated. Choice of rooms or self-catering cottage. Within walking distance of town center and restaurants. Friendly reception by the owners.
The house has a lot of historic significance but the self-catering units are in the backyard and don't have the same structure as the main house. The unit was quite limited but neat and clean. It was fully equipped and the braai at the swimming pool is quite memorable.

The place is clean and rooms are very spacious and Carmel Villa is situated in a very tranquil setting and at night no disturbances of any kind was experienced, we loved the house and its heritage, the Architectural design of the house very typical of its time, makes you as of you have stepped into the past.

Hetta (the owner) is friendly and told many interesting stories about the house's history. She made an effort to book us a place for dinner. I would recommend staying in the main house rather than the outside rooms. There are no ceiling fans and we were eaten by mosquitoes.

The chalet is a self-catering garden unit suited for 2 guests. The unit comes equipped with a queen bed with an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet, and basin.
