40 guests' feedbackRio was an incredibly friendly and helpful host. No problem in recommending Casablanca for an overnight stop on the way to Kgalagadi.
Warm welcome from the host. We slept comfortably and warmly. Good overnight stop on the way to Kgalagadi. Interesting quirky decor. Loved it.
I left my camping table there but will pop in on 31/7 or 1/8 to pick it up.
Friendly reception, cozy accommodation, comfortable bed. Weather unfortunately prevented us from using outside area.
Rui, our host, was great and very welcoming and made us feel very much at home. We had everything we needed at Casablanca. The local restaurant Die Windpomp was a great experience too.
Brilliant place, so full of old history and quirky things. Love how you feel part of a home but have your own space.
See stars.
The accommodation was like manna, after hours on the road we could rest in a residence that offered everything we needed at that stage. Clean bedding, coffee with goat's milk.
Very nice. What we needed was available.
Very pleasant, and we were treated to a delicious home-baked bun with real butter and home-made apricot jam!
We wanted to spend the night at Brandfort. Yes, the house is very old and because the very stuff, it appears dusty and neglected. The room was beautiful and everything you need.
Interesting setup, closed and dark, not very clean and hygienic.
I prefer not to say!.
Everything was perfect. The room was clean, the shower was hot, the braai area was excellent. The host was warm, friendly, and helpful.
The guesthouse has a lot of character with plenty of reading material, antiques and other artefacts.
An otherworldly experience, warm welcome and delicious, fresh home-baked bread!
Really enjoyed the calm quiet atmosphere. The owner was really helpful and friendly.
Casablanca was a wonderful cremation on Brandvlei, which is usually just an overnight stop. House is spacious, nice big rooms and bathrooms with all amenities needed. Interesting theme and books. Nice outdoor barbecue area. Very quiet area and friendly owner and neighbors.
Stayed overnight and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet. Our host was fantastic and we enjoyed a lovely braai, after which we retired to our clean, air-conditioned room. Lovely place. Rejuvenating.
Rue was a great host. Interesting decor, and nice to be in a spot in town that was almost farm-like!
Nice stay. The rooms are basic but clean. Value for money. Delicious meal at the Windpomp.
A welcome destination after a long day on the road. Eccentric old house with space and character. Rui prepared a wonderful dinner for us.
I stayed overnight one Sunday night. Very comfortable and convenient overnight place in a small place in the wide open spaces of that world. Friendly host.
The accommodation is what one can expect for the cheap price. It was quite cold, so the winter sheets, electric blanket and air heater were very welcome. The best recommendation was to eat at the Rooi Windpomp in the evening. The restaurant is along the R27 and really worth it for anyone who wants to have lunch along the way! Their Windpomp burger (200 grams of ground lamb) is so big that you can easily share it. Amazing value for money and fantastic country hospitality.
Comfortable accommodation that could be greatly improved with a little renovation.
Ideal overnight for tours.
It is a place to sleep.
Options in the area were very few and therefore a case of "supply and demand". Would rather travel a little further next time to a bigger town with more options. We like "off the beaten track", Rui was a very pleasant and helpful host and the room was also tidy and we slept well. However, it was a bit uncomfortable because the room was not en suite, the toilet did not work well and the water was very little in the bathroom as well as freezing cold. Would not recommend for people with children due to the dogs.
Was a good overnight stop.
Have a nice time with our host. He went out of his way to make everything nice for us. Lots of extras, like his homemade milk pie, etc. Everything nice clean and tidy.
Very interesting barbecue setup outside. Was an experience.
Host friendly and was able to inform us about things in and around the town. Also has cute animals on premises. Nice barbecue and place to visit.
Rui can make you feel at home. And gives a lot of information about environment.
Very friendly and accommodating host. Ample fat lines. Everything we needed and more.
Even with power outages there was everything needed. A trifle was that the water in our bathroom did not want to drain well from the wash basin or shower.
Value for money and very safe with pack "dogs".
See stars.
Rui, our host, was very friendly, helpful, and innovative. The décor at Casablanca is quite eclectic and quirky with its old movies theme. We enjoyed meeting all his animals on the small holding. We also enjoyed eating at the Windpomp Restaurant Rui recommended.
At first we had our reservations, but the place has an old world charm. Rudie, the owner was very helpful and friendly. By 19:00 the whole hamlet had closed down. There was a dead silence. We had a wonderful time under cover at the braai and enjoyed the silence and the spectacle of thunder and lightning in the distance. It's a small hamlet, but nicely central halfway between Upington and Calvinia. The only complaint is the lime water that caused taps to get stuck. But that's the way it is in that world. Nothing can be done about it. It's the water of the environment with its challenges and it's a dry world where water cannot be wasted.
